App that has Smart Alerts (vibrate when picked up) ? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Is there any app that has the option to have the phone vibrate when picking it up when it has missed messages or calls ? It used to be a standard option for androids called 'Smart Alerts' and senior phones still have it...
Of course they removed it now, as they ALWAYS do with the cool features, leaving only the crap.
So is there any app that has this? Smart Notify claims it does but it doesn't work at all... beware I have not rooted my phone and I am probably not likely to do so...
Thanks,

Just saying, there used to be 'Vibify' which was in the play store, but it isn't there anymore...

I don't get it, one of the coolest features since Android 5 and no one seems to even know what I mean, wherever I ask...
Absurd. It's when you physically pick up the device off from the table, the motion sensor then triggers a single short vibration to let you know you have missed calls and/or messages...
Anyone ? Thanks.

[Q] How can I stop the Beep when plugging in a charger/usb cable?

I've searched around here and the web and can't find an answer to this - There have been various posts and suggestions on how to stop the beep once a battery is fully charged (I use a free app 'Battery Charged' to stop this).
However what I can't find is a way to stop the beep when I connect the phone to a charger/pc USB cable. This is very irritating not only me but others when at work and I want to stop it.
Anybody know of a setting/app that stops it - Just have a vanilla rom and have no intention of rooting it.
Thanks
Edit: Sorry should be in the Q&A section
Looking through the files, I would start with trying to rename/delete/replace /system/media/audio/ui/Charger_Connection.ogg but that would probably require root.
uh on the iphone you put the phone in silent mode with the flick of a switch. are you meaning to say you can't do this with android? And people wonder why people would rather go the iphone route for usability?
Ignore the guy above & download an app called 'Tasker'. it costs about £4 from the market but it is AWESOME.
Tasker will allow you to set up 'rules' for example so when you plug in a charger/usb cable etc you can individually mute the volumne but still allow texts, emails, calls etc to sound & ring (unlike iPhone which is a global mute).
Job done.
Sure, buy an app to get basic functionality. That's the android answer for everything, isn't it
root and delete the file, job done.
Oh and dont feed the troll above!

im all for modding to get more functionality, but for stuff like this? I'd love to be able to have friends with androids without them constantly calling me to ask how/if they can do a certain thing w/ their phone.
Still sorry for being trolly I didn't mean to be
Just put the phone on silent using the quick panel, this stops it fine if your not wanting to use modded themes or buying 3rd party apps.
If your only wanting to stop the charging notification then whats the point if any other sounds will disturb other colleges, pointless trying to disable one sound when others are going to irritate the same.

Agreed + valid point but I have profile set up for example that mutes all notification sounds (charging beep, texts & emails) during the night while on charge. If someone needs to call me cause of an emergeny etc the phone still rings though.
That's the beauty of the Tasker app.

[Q] sms sniffing

Greetings to everyone
I have question about security. I have to know what options are there to find out sms conversation. I use Handcent sms in which I use privacy box with one person to determine that noone else except me would know what we are texting about. But one thing happened. Third person know what exactly we are texting about, even if I constantly deleted sms everyday. I can't imagine the way how he find out this.
I study software development so about security I know something. I know that handcent saves database of sms even if they are deleted or not. I used sqlite to find out what is exactly in the db and find out, that this is not right way how he find out. I also find out that in handcent autobackup option was checked, but noticed that when you delete sms, backup file changed and there were only sms i intented to be there. I also tried antivirus programs to find out if there is some kind of malware or trojan, nothing found.
So my question is: what options of finding out sms conversation are there? Even if third person can access mentioned mobile phone or not?
I will appreciate any good advice

Was it a known person? Or a random person? If he was a friend/person you know, then he either heard through the grape vine or got your phone or the person you were textings phone. I dont think there is a way to "hack" your phone from a computer and view the texts you sent. Unless he got them from your carrier.

Yes it is but would need to go through tones of red tape and have to be a Cop of some kind.
Most likely it was who ever you were texting. There are also other ways that it could happen. Apps that forward all texts to another number used to be a big one back in windows mobile days. Not sure if there is an app like that for android

It's probably the problem that this person has a friend which works for vodafone which this phone uses. Forwarding all texts is not possible i think, because this person would catch up on this earlier..

There used to be an app that could be installed that did all this with the user even knowing about it. Once installed it was hidden away and it never showed that the messages would be forwarded. It was a proof of concept app that someone made for learning. If they had someone working for the company it would have to be a higher up to have access to the cached data bases the company keeps which are encrypted.
I have a feeling the OP was ratted out by the one they were texting.

Ok, thank you for your advice. So if there is hidden app registered as service it can be seen through logcat when I intent to send sms, am I right?
About the company, this person works here on higher places, dont realy know what is his position some kind of IT specialist, gonna investigate this..

Blocking Mode found on the Verizon Note 2. Not fully functional.

Well, bad news folks. It seems that while we can indeed get to Blocking Mode, it doesn't appear to be fully functional. When I first found it and tested it out, it successfully blocked the calls I made from my computer via Gmail and Skype. But after some further tests this afternoon, it didn't actually block any calls made by some friends via their cell phones. So, while it's there, it doesn't seem like it's fully functional. At the very least, maybe this gives us some hope for someone out there to find a way to get it working consistently or that Verizon will enable it in a future update.

I was playing around with one of my favorite apps Any Cut. Regrettably, Any Cut (which isn't available in the Play Store any more) doesn't work correctly on Jelly Bean, but it works enough to be able to take a look at many of the shortcuts it's able to find. And low and behold, Blocking Mode was in the list. Since Any Cut is problematic on Jelly Bean (it kind of works, but not completely), I found another app on the Play Store that operates in much the same way that Any Cut does - QuickShortcutMaker.
No root required!
Here's how to get to it:
1) Download QuickShortcutMaker from the Play Store. (Note: the app closed on me a few times while trying to use it, but it eventually worked)
2) After QuickShortcutMaker installs, open it up.
3) Type Blocking Mode in the text field. The app is pretty slow when it comes to populating the available shortcuts, so it might take a little bit. Once it finishes, tap on the first result at the top (It will say "Settings" with Blocking mode underneath it.
4) Rename the shortcut to whatever you want. It's named "Settings" by default, and I changed mine to "Blocking Mode."
5) Tap "OK."
6) You'll now have a shortcut on your homescreen that will take you right into Blocking Mode (the icon will be a cog just like the Settings icon). Open it up and and block away! (Note: the shortcut on your homescreen will be the only way to access Blocking Mode, so if you delete it, you'll have to create a new one in order to get back into the settings for it)
Known issues:
The app will force close when trying to add contacts to the custom allowed contact list. But it seems to work fine when selecting "Favorites" as opposed to creating a new custom list. So if adding contacts to a custom list is force closing for you, add the contacts that you want to come through to your general favorites list when Blocking Mode is enabled, and then use the Favorites option in the Blocking Mode settings.
Thank you!! Now lets figure out how to get the S Planner widget on this thing.

I am as well. It's probably due to the fact that Verizon doesn't have it fully implemented. Try adding the contacts you want to come through to your general contacts favorites list and then select the favorites option in Blocking Mode. That worked for me. I've updated the original post to reflect this.
I didn't think of that. Thanks!

Cant help but think Samsung left it in on purpose so we'd find it and shove it to vzw.
Alot of speculation was they leaked the insecure bootloader for the gs3 as well.
This is a great find, thanks.

Blocking mode allows you to set a specified period of time during which the phone will not ring. But you can set it so that the phone will still ring for certain contacts during the time it's enabled.
For instance, I don't want to be disturbed while I'm sleeping by random calls or texts, but I don't put my phone into silent mode while I'm asleep because I'm worried that I'll miss an emergency call from family. With Blocking Mode, I can block all calls/notifications from coming through except calls/notifications from certain people. So calls/notifications that I feel might be important, like from family or certain friends, will come through, but all others won't. That way I'm only woken up by people who I feel are important enough to wake up for.
It's also helpful in other situations when you're busy and don't want to be disturbed except by certain people.
Wow EXCELLENT find OP!!! Much kudos to you!
I can't help but feel so offended by Verizon and how they butchered this great phone, or rather tried to...
After almost a month solid holding it back from us, they finally release it and what do you know? They strip it of features that are intended to be part of the phone as sold by Samsung. The fact that it's still there but HIDDEN is proof of this concept.
We need to send this info to all the big phone journalism sites out there like Engadget, Gizmodo, Droid-Life etc and blow some serious smoke up Verizon's ass. Let them know we are disgusted by their attempts to remove features from our phones that no other carrier has done.
Hopefully they realize they were wrong and to fix the negative publicity they decide to send out an update that adds the missing features back. They better

I sent it into Droid-Life this morning after I found it, and a short time ago they posted a story about it - How to: Enable "Blocking Mode" on Verizon's Galaxy Note 2
I doubt this particular issue will get enough coverage to cause any measurable negative publicity, but hopefully it can at least bring some of the stuff Verizon is choosing to do to light for a greater audience.

Cool thats what i tought. Thanks for verifying for me!
tried this, and like others got the force closes when trying to add contacts to "custom". Problem is, this isn't working. I even tried allowing no contacts (to block everything), and every call or text still goes through!
I tried this by calling from my work phone (that isn't anywhere in my contact list), and even call or texting from my regular contacts. These should all be blocked, but they all get through- texts and calls.
I've tried rebooting, but nothing seems to be blocked.

This can also be achieved using a custom Launcher like Nova or Apex. To do this, long press on the home screen, click "Shortcuts" --> "Activities" --> "Blocking Mode".
Granted, the OP way uses the stock TouchWiz, but just offering another solution.
Enjoy!

Yeah, the original post has been updated to reflect the fact that it's actually not fully functional.
At least it gives us some hope that perhaps someone can get it functioning or that it will be enabled in the future.

[Q] Howto find and remove Spy-Software on the phone

Hello, my Girlfriend has an admirer which started out as a good friend. He confessioned his love for her some time ago and started to become more and more aggressive while being rejected. He recently started to show some stalker like behavior and started to appear near her flat at late nighttime.
He also hinted, that he always knew when she was chatting with my through Whatsapp. I'm therefore afraid that he might have installed some Spysoftware on her Android-Phone (HTC One X+)
TL;DR
Is there a way to identifyWhatsapp Spysoftware and to remove it?

There is a messaging app called whatsapp, I've never used it so I don't know how she could remove him as a contact on there or just get rid of the app.
Personally I use lookout mobile security for virus/spyware. But a scanning app may not flag messaging apps as spyware, no matter how flexible it may be with its users info.

While this can be done. I doubt he has the know how on how to pull it off and is just making noise. Worst case would be to catch him doing it and call the cops.
She would have to remove him in her contacts list for the app

do a factory reset. just to be safe.
Also format sdcard for make sure.
Run ruu. Burn phone. Buy new one. All good answers

try this
about whatsappp it's indded simple to know when sbody is chatting, on every messaging window just under the contact name there is the last contact log, if in chat says online, even if chatting with another one... so maybe no spyware on her phone, just a smart stalker, but she can freeze him simply long press on stalker name in whatsapp contact list and block, also in android contact add him and from menù choose "send all call to voice box" or similar after choose a fake number as phonebox, doing this her phone is virtually not reachable from the stalker
plus add his number in a black list, you can find a lot of call blocker app in the market
and last but not least call the cops
