LED Notification light only working with pre-installed apps? - Nokia 7.2 Questions & Answers

Hi - I bought the phone because of the led notification light. But it is not working for WhatsApp or Signal - only for text messages and phone calls. In my view this bug needs to be fixed. There is even an online petition to Nokia about that. Sign too, if you want. You will find the petition on open petition.

I noticed this with my Nokia 5.3 when I received Whatsapp and Messenger messages but notification light didn't blink. It does blink when I get emails via Gmail. What a useless feature. I already sent email to Nokia support and they just said it will be forwarded to appropriate department and my case was closed. Pfff. Not holding my breath.

[Q]+[Poll] Android :: Repeat Notifications ::

Hi all,
There doesn't seem to be an option to switch off repeat notifications. Whenever I receive an email and I don't read it immediately, I'll get a repeat notification sound every 5 minutes or so until I acknowledge the email in some way.
I have looked to no avail, so am hoping that someone can point out where this option is. I have set up quiet time from 10PM - 7AM, but this isn't helping outside these quiet hours.
Hope you can help.
Thanks..
I think its a gmail bug. Except for me I get the messages report in winmo. Even if I delete them they come back. Fu!$&ng annoying. Even though I don't use winmo, I still see them if I have to do a restart or something
I've never bad this problem at all...

I'm using an app called Improved Email. Not syncing to Gmail, but internal mail app grabs corporate exchange, improved mail to another exchange server and also a hotmail account. Still don't see an option to disable the repeat notifications..
Are you having this problem with Gmail, or a different mail app? Because there are a few bugs ive noticed with the Gmail app like mattfmartin said. Sometimes I wont receive an email in WM but the moment i boot up into Android i start getting notifications from old & new emails.

Hi, I don't use gmail at all. I don't have a problem receiving email either, its just that when I do receive emails the notification sounds keep sounding every 5 minutes until I go into the mail application and read them which I don't often have time to do so the repeat notification sounds become quite annoying after 15 minutes or so, especially at work where they annoy other work colleagues as well.
my phone beeps one time, then the orange light stays on until i check it..
this must be build specific.. perhaps post in the build thread.
I dont use gmail either. And I get the notification repeats for everything. It's especially annoying for voicemail, and it doesnt matter if I have new voicemail or not, I check all the messages and then the notification comes back 5-10 minutes later, then I check again and there are no new messages... It's just annoying really though, not that big of a deal...

Notification Led usable?

Hi,
as here in this forum are so many people with great knowledge, I hope somebody can help me:
Is there any way to make the integrated notificiation LED of the Tablet S usable for calendar notifications? I tried it with and without lightflow but the led does not blink when there's an event reminder. And a notification for an appointment is moreimportant than email notifications.
Perhaps somebody has a working solution
Thank you
I'm Affraid there is none ATM, but its a great idea, sadly it will not be as easy to ask to the official calendar app maker, which is Google in this case, because not all devices has this function, in fact even if all devices support this way of alarming, then not all users want to have this option, but you could always try to contact google via google play, and search the callendar if its not shown in the market then you should send a normal message, tell them to make a checkbox within the app, so you can choose to use or block this option,
personally i hate it, because i take my tab regulary to my bethroom so sometimes i get a notification and my whole room is flashing green xD very annoying,
Maby i'm not right but as far as i know there isn't any option like this
Ps: understand that my english is not that good, cause i'm still dutch XD
Goodluck!.

I used LightFlow (the free version) for a short while and it reminded me of calendar events, as long as there was a Reminder set in the event (i.e. for 10 minutes before etc). I never had problems with it. Did you set up the Calendar notification in LightFlow?

[Q] Notification LED flashing even with no messages

Hey all. I tried searching the forum but nothing came up. I apologize if this has been addressed already in another thread. Ever since I got my phone the notification LED will flash, even if there is no new message. It flashes fine when I get an email or text and it'll go away when I read them. It happens several times during the day but I can't make it happen. I have to drag the notification bar down to get rid of the flashing. I did a factory reset but it still happens. Does this happen for anyone else? I know it isn't a big deal but it's little things like that that just eat away at me until I stop it. Thanks for any help.
Do you happen to use Handcent? This happened with my 4G and 3D from time to time. I'm not sure what caused it, but I would just test notification in Handcent and it would go away.
Nope, never have. Guess it wouldn't hurt to try it out.
I use Handcent and I think it may have been the source of my notification light problems. I haven't had any problems with it on this phone thus far, though.
I tried turning off all led notifications and it still happens. This is very weird.
Do you have the Yahoo Mail app installed? I get mainly junk in my Yahoo so I don't want to be notified of email and just want to check it when I feel like it. You can change the notification sound to none, uncheck use vibrate, and uncheck show in status bar but it'll still light up the LED. There isn't an option to turn off the led notification.
I'm not a fan of that app so I use the default android email app now for my yahoo account.
I did have that app but uninstalled it after what you said. Now we play the waiting game.
Well the LED hasn't flashed by itself since I removed the Yahoo! mail app. Thanks for the info. Guess i'll send them an email with this issue.

Ubuntu Phone Aquarius E4.5 notifications not working

Dear all,
I have Ubuntu Phone Aquarius E4.5 and it is very nice phone...there are some problems with software though...
Notifications of Telegram not working
Notifications of Facebook not working
Notifications of gmail not working...
anyone any idea what the problem is ?
Thanx in advance
best regards
Miki
Hy,
I have the same problem, but when sometimes changes from wifi to 3g get some notifications.
I think that after the update failed to give notifications
also like to correct this problem
Thanx in advance
best regards
POPkiller
Visual notifications works on my Aquarius, audio notifications only with SMS, Telegram don't
I have the same problem with the notifications from Telegram
Sound notifications for Telegram will be in 15.04 image from what I heard and that one should be coming in some weeks presumably. That image should have a lot of improvements
Telegram notifications had a bug with ssl certs and actually is solved. And yes, notifications are slow, very slow, needs improvements.
Today telegram notifications start to appear... still very slow yes...so if someone send message to me i got notification after couple of minutes... But someone is working on improvement and thats good thing.
Is there anywhere official ubuntu phone forum ? Where can we read stuff about software relases ?
Best regards
Miki

One my side, never got any notifications from GMAIL .
Telegram works
I've lately worked on some improvements for Gmail notifications which made them working for me. Even though they have been merged, they haven't landed in the images yet.
Would somebody mind posting their "~/.cache/upstart/account-polld.log*" files so that I can check whether you run into the same errors?
I will try to do so, even if finally it seems to work better since some days ... don't know why
Gmail notification doesn't work for me (Ubuntu Phone Aquaris E4.5). Following nikwen post, here some parts of ~/.cache/upstart/account-polld.log*" files

using ping from terminal, accounts.google.com is reachable.
Also tried to disable an enable again notification.
Thank you in advance
@fly3836 Yes, that's exactly the bug I fixed.
The code is in vivid now and as the stable branch will be based on that soon, you should have working Gmail notification within the next two months. Or you switch to devel-proposed to get that working now.

Is the stable branch already based on vivid?

no, not yet
@jonny-boy They are testing vivid-based builds now.
They said the earliest possible date for vivid-based builds would be in the middle of next week.

Hmm I just updated to OTA 5, but I don't get notifications for gmail. I have the Meizu phone. Thought that notifications would work now ...

People edge notifications ?

Hi, in regards to the notifications from one of your 5 people edge contacts, aren't we supposed to get a color light side bar notification when we get a text or is that only for missed calls? last night i thought i was getting the blue side bar thing every time i got a text from my first people edge contact but today i don't seem to be getting the light notifications for my other texts. The description in the settings doesn't specify whether it's only for missed calls or not it just says all "notifications" so I assume we should get it for texts too? I'm wondering if maybe i accidentally disabled that feature somehow. it still lights up for missed calls though.
There is an option under 'edge screen' where you can choose 'select notifications' and choose to turn it on and off for missed calls, messages and emails
Pretty sure the 5 people contacts thing only works as long as you use the included, Samsung texting service. If you've switched your primary texting app to something else, like for example Google Voice or Hangouts, the lighting should no longer work for texting purposes. Calls, I believe, are unaffected by this change, and the colours appear just fine.
The phone needs to be screen down for the light notifications to work.
Yes you have to use Samsung messages to get the edge lights to work. I tried it but only lasted 2 days and had to go back to hangouts.

Same experience.
Called Samsung today and unless you use their archaic messaging app then the edge lighting notifications will not function for SMS, MMS etc. It will still work for missed calls I believe.
Essentially they negated any reason for me to keep this device, it's going back.
I'm sure that some smart xda developer will figure out a way to link this to hangouts (why in gods name would Samsung choose to ignore core Google Android apps is beyond me), instead of Samsung trying to force people to use their proprietary garbage.
I should have trusted my gut on this, but really liked the idea of the edge functionality.
Fool me once, shame on you.....
Am I the one who want so bad the integration of whatsapp into people edge world? :crying: is there any official news/hint from samsung about this?
Huh? I'm not using Samsung msgs yet I received a message from my wife and people edge side bar was showing the msg in the specific color I picked for her
Sent from my SM-G925F
I just test mine and with hangouts it doesn't show the color of the contacts that we have on people's edge
