how to fix BlueFrag on Honor 9? - Honor 9 Questions & Answers

hello,
since the Honor 9 isnt getting any security fixes anymore what can we do
about the BlueFrag security hole?
https://www.andreafortuna.org/2020/...-critical-bluetooth-vulnerability-in-android/
It seems right now the only chance would be phussons android 10 GSI
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/how-to/android-10-t3993461
since there are no Custom Android 9 or 10 ROMS with latest Google Security Fixes - correct?

If someone figures out how to bypass the bootloader that huawei put, then we can start doing this roms thing, until then, unfortunate people like me are stuck at a locked bootloader.
Well i can technically do the whole process of flashing my board again using dc unlocker and then unlocking my bootloader while I'm at it, but that's too much hassle, man, plus you need some money to spare. It's not worth it anymore unless you absolutely have to, I'm just happy with a working phone lol

thanks for answering - i'm also stuck at EMUI 9.1
and with this method?
wouldnt it be free?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/how-to/downgrade-unbrick-honor-9-imei-fix-t3934363
then we could try some of theses ROMS out

Nope, u have to pay for it, and yeah, i'm waiting for them to find an exploit on the security that huawei put in their gpu turbo update, bec. that's the root of our problem, i heard that if you downgrade to a non-turbo firmware, it's gonna brick your device, so might as well be patient until the guys at dc phoenix figures out how to read bootloader codes on emui9.
Also I saw that openkirin has hw buttons fixed, i think it's the capacitive buttons fix that people often lose bec. of installing twrp, so i'm excited for that day that we can install openkirin roms

Using Honor 9 after EOL / Unlock bootloader / Flash custom rom
Hi everyone, since Huawei apparently dropped support for the Honor 9 a while ago, I'm getting concerned of my phone being a security risk as the Android security patch is of july 2019. As my 3-year-old phone is still working totally fine, I was...

[Guide] How to Downgrade M9 Pro Oreo Beta to Official Nougat

In XDA-Developers every code builders finding solutions for Mate 9 but there is nothing for Mate 9 Pro (LON) versions.
I am opening this thread if someone give a hand to resolve downgrading problem Oreo Beta to Offical Nougat.
In Mate 9 forum @mankindtw build HWOTA 8 solution for MHA versions. Probably people will suggest me to use FunkyHuawei thing. But PayPal and BitCoin payment methods are not working in my country because of acredition at banking system.
So if any developer can support M9 Pro, it's too much appriciated for me.

It's possible while you are in stock recover via Firmware Finder. Just you need to find which stock ROM works for your device. None of Rollback Roms worked with me.
Yep! I'm also waiting for this! Hope a solution comes soon

Probably @mankindtw preparing a solution. He made the old HWOTA system and nowadays keeps silence. It's my guess, waiting for the official ROM release date.
@duraaraa I have a spesific problem. I'm using Huawei Mate 9 Pro. Bootloader unlocked, Oeminfo file belongs to orginal LON-AL00C00B225 but system running under Oreo 8.0.0.323 C636 log. It is sometimes running and sometimes don't.
I tried to downgrade Oreo to Nougat but it wasn't possible by Firmware Finder (special thanks to @gmanrainy for kind interest) or @mankindtw 's solutions. Probably file structure is different on Oreo, that could be reason for not downgrading.
Anyway, I know you are also moderating FunkyHuawei webpage. Is it possible for my situation to rebrand C636 and install LON-L29C636B235 version? Your payment methods not working in my country so I'l figure it out somehow. But I clearly wanted to learn if it is really work for me.

Yes, it's possible. But I would need to look into which package you need to install. You'd probably need to use FHRebrandTool to fix the branding correctly.

It's not problem to use it. I already downloaded tools but looking forward for your answer. Thank you.
I successfully rebranded my phone to LON-L29C636 via your stock OEMINFO file. Now phone is in bootloop.
I am really wondering that is FunkyHuawei able to install B235 Nougat firmware. I'll share all details who are looking solution to downgrade Oreo to Nougat.

You'd need to flash the Oreo firmware with FHUnbrickTool if it's not booting. Or you can re-unlock the bootloader. Probably issue is you used the tool with unlocked bootloader and a modified partition somewhere, I'm guessing.
You might also be able to use eRecovery method with Android O firmware. Downgrading to N will need to be done AFTER you have it booting in Android O.
I can't monitor this thread well, so you should email FH support if you need help.
EDIT: I apologize. I thought you were using FH tools. Apparently not. Yes, FH can fix your phone, to answer your question from before. There is no other solution for M9Pro right now.

I wrote an email on 23th but there is no answer from FHteam. Anyway my phone now is totally bricked. Opening in error mode. Error no 13 with no image. As you know I tried to downgrade from Oreo to Nougat.
Can we fix it and install the original Chinese edition on my phone? No problem if it would be Oreo or Nougat.
I'm going to try to buy credits from a different way, because PayPal is not working in my area.

Anyway thank you for your support.
@duraaraa I want to thank FunkyHuawei team for responding very fast this time. We were online together.
I think my device hard bricked and I'll try everything to access fastboot mode. I always have bootloop and error mode continously. Key combinations don't work. Only power key, but it doesn't shuts down the phone, it always restarts. I was really expecting a downgrade solution from @mankindtw like he did for Mate 9 before. But he didn't and now device is hard bricked. Before an Oreo installation they need to warn people about there is no return.
No problem. I believe we will save my M9 Pro together. Thank you in advance and I'll stay in touch.

I used Firmware Finder and it did the job. I downgraded from LON-L29C432B368 to LON-L29C432B229. You need to select FullOTA-MF-PV version.

TWRP and Root?

What are the chances that this device will get TWRP and Root?
Not that I know... But this seems to be the best android tablet around now considering the price. Furthermore, its born with Android 8, which means it will be treple enabled thus the adaption of vanilla Android or others should be easier. Likewise, this should also improve security patches. I hope that someone will bring it.
Any progress of Rooting the HUAWEI MediaPad M5?
I want to buy it cuz my old Pixel C is sadly broken, but I wanna wait till it gots Root and Custom ROM:
@Marcopoloy13 I am in a similar situation as I would like to retire my old Nexus 7 (2012) and I am quite optimistic that TWRP will be available quite soon, as there is a device tree for the Honor 9 available and the Mediapad M5 sports the same SoC ...
As I am receiving my Huawei Mediapad M5 PRO next week, I wanted to look for root ... Is Huawei known to make a fuzz about root in case of sending it in for repairs etc. (I have a Samsung-past, friends of mine had issues with their support due to root ... ) ?
I am very new to Rooting, i just want to get linux deploy on this tab to install Debian. I have unlocked the bootloader the rooting is very hard.... i have no clue to what i am doing and was following the guide on this awesome forum but the imaging and so forth is not somthing i understand.
i have the CMR-w09 (non pro)
Unlock the bootloader?
How did you unlock the bootloader? I tried the “Huawei unlocking page" mentioned at Kingoapps website, but it didn't find anything about unlocking or bootloaders.

For any WIFI only device, contact Huwaei via Phone (they rarely answer mails, so dont write one), explain the problem using their site (WIFI only device, therefore no IMEI etc), provide them your tablets serial number and let them send the unlock code via mail to you. Takes usually two business days until you have the unlock code.

Does bootloader unlock prevent OTA updates?

Hi guys, I've been out of the Huawei scene for a while, since changing my daily driver away from my Mate 7 (still got the phone though), so unsure of how things work in Huawei world now. My son has purchased a Mate 10 (black) recently (has Mate 7 already also) and with the news of Huawei soon stopping bootloader unlock, I have logged into my Huawei account and got his unlock code before things turn to poo.
If I unlock his Mate 10, will it still take OTA updates like the Mate 7 did? We don't want to root or mod it. Just unlock for the future when Huawei do stop supporting the phone and only then look at custom ROMs that get updates.
Do OTA's re-lock it?
It's on Oreo from new. Apparently it has a notification for OTA update right now, should I unlock it before or after the update?
I feel like a total n00b lol. Even my Axon 7 is locked still. Android is so much better these days that you don't have a pressing need to mod them.
BTW, the Mate 10 is really nice, I would have one for myself too, but the Axon 7 still works great. Shame it doesn't have the amazing battery life of Mate 10 :silly:
Hi, Unlocked Bootloader doesn't prevent OTA Updates or gets relocked on a software update.. But please make sure that you don't have TWRP or any sort of modifications on your device else it'd turn out really bad.. I always download "Full Package" from the Software Update Section in Settings so I can make sure all my important images can be flashed by the update..
Regards
Thanks for that :good:
Ok, well I will get him to do back up of his data and SMS and call logs etc and then I'll unlock it. It's a long weekend here in NSW Australia so he can spend some time setting it up again He needs it for work. Uses the dual SIMs like I do.

Probably better when you do the OTA update first and then unlock the bootloader.
It's now unlocked
Restoring the backup then he can set it up further. Didn't do the OTA first just in case there was a bootloader change in it.
Hopefully that wasn't a mistake.
Edit:
Looks like the update is mainly for face unlock and security patches. Done

When I unlocked the bootloader for my p8 lite 2017 , it stopped getting updates even the update section in the settings is gone ??? what should i do

Huawei device "ptrace" implementation issue

Being a no good dirty cheater, I'm a big fan of Game Guardian and I use it with great success on my HTC U11 phone. I recently discovered that it can be used without root, by using a virtualization environment such as Parallel Space or VirtualXposed. As I haven't rooted my M5 (SHT-09), I downloaded Parallel Space and GG and got it all running. However, I've found that I cannot make any edits to game memory space from within GG.
The are a number of posts on the GG forum suggesting that there is a bug (or security feature) in many Huawei device cores / firmware that relates to the implementation of the ptrace system function call. Something in the firmware seems to prevent the GG process from modifying the child process memory space using PTRACE_POKETEXT or PTRACE_POKEDATA.
The suggestion of the developer of GG is to "change the firmware so that there the ptrace system call works normally".
Anyone aware of this "feature" of Huawei device firmwares? Is there / could there be a solution to modify the firmware to "fix" this behaviour?
I saw you posted on my thread. Thanks for that. I wanted to see whether flashing a different kernel like Serenity would help. But i doubt it. Might be worth a try. Would have loved to know that beforehand. :/ Any other ideas? What I am seeing is that it needs a competent developer to recode the Kernel. I would then flash that patch. Other than that it is defined as unfixable. That we'd have to change the device. :/
It's the main reason that I haven't rooted / unlocked the bootloader, as running GG is pretty much all I use root for on other devicxes. And the fact that rooting / boot unlock kills Widevine level 1 support, which is madness on a 2k device like the M5. Wouldn't want Netflix streaming SD content only.
From what I understand, which isn't much, the issue is buried deep down in the kernel. Not sure if a custom kernel would solve the problem or not. Knowing XDA, I'm sure someone will be crazy enough to try it at some point in the future!

Yeah I get that, but some games dont have a cloud feature. Making parallel space useless. Plus I appreciate some other root features. I have a note 8 which should work GG without root, but I'll see how it goes. Oh really, I'm a big time stream fan. I havent tried Netflix with root yet . Should still work tho. I think. Hmm well, problem is all kernels are made for devices like the mate 10 or the P20. Not sure if they will work with the M5, wouldn't want to brick after all the trouble. [Edit, found the nextflix module apk. Can flash that with Magisk. Makes it work again ]

Alright guys, I found this out today (I'm also Kr1msonReaper on GG forums);
Huawei kernel prevents GG from working in Android Oreo HOWEVER-- If you downgrade to Android Nougat, I find that it works perfectly. Hope this helps!
Just a note, when you are, of course, debloating Nougat, make sure to disable Huawei system update app so you don't find yourself in Oreo the next day.

How do you downgrade to nougat? Any reason not to do it? And will I retain root ?
I actually like Nougat more than Oreo as it fixes issues such as the ptrace error and seems to have more battery optimization. It's been a long time since I downgraded to Nougat and since then I got a new phone but here's the tutorial I followed. @mrmazak has helped me out of se sticky situations and his tutorials have never failed me. https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7x/how-to/guide-honor-7x-flash-oreo-update-t3781649/amp/
I believe you will lose root but you can easily flash magisk again after installing the downgrade package.
Hope this helped!

I am not sure this would work on the Huawei mediapad m5 tablet. As far as I can tell it never had a nougat firmware to rollback too. I looked for sht-w09 and the all the files appear to be for Android 8 and none for 7 nougat. Unless I am missing something??
Other than they locked out ptrace stuff and that it appears unlikely to get Android 9 in the US for my mode l its a pretty good tablet. Maybe I should just sell it and move on to a tab s6 that can be rooted.

Any InDepth test version can be use on RM 7 Pro , also Magisk root simplify methods

Hello ,
I Root some of my Xiaomi more or less knowing the procedures.
I may purchase REALME 7 Pro & if the very first step unlock bootloader using Indepth test apk., can use on this model ? not necessary a must match version of Indepth text apk ?
also, is Readme OS accept Magisk root by patching the boot.img without using TWRP ?
( similar procedures as ROOTING on Xiaomi devices ...taking out boot.img from formware ....using Magisk to patch image...... flash it back & forth between devices & computer...without using TWRP. )
Thank you very much.

Hey I wouldn't suggest rooting or unlocking bootloader even if it is simple as ABC because this device is going to get updates for sure so it wouldn't be wise yet.

You get the point !!
Unfortunately , I M-U-S-T root this as I'm required to use TASKER heavily due to my work ( and my own interest in tasker )
On Xiaomi devices they are an easy life since I've been following every firmware updates , then I download separately this firmware on my desktop, root this back by MAGISK_PATCH_BOOT.img ( sort of like you know what I mean )
There is no need no hassle to make Xiaomi root again after the firmware updates. Most importantly Xiaomi not require to re-install all apps by using above methods after firmware updates.
I hope this realme 7 pro using the same procedures. ( I just have made the purchase from India to DHL me at USD375.00 )
Thanks!

If you are really impatient you can try to gain temporary root and extract the boot.img using any app or ADB commands even magisk root via ADB is possible afaik I myself am waiting for the kernel and bootloader unlock but I feel this phone was launched in an early state to compete against Xiaomi phones in the same price range. Now unfortunately for us consumers this means till Android 11 update kernel sources might not be public but most probably after that it might be possible and if you use root for YouTube vanced and stuff I think there is a non root method but it's very irritating.

I use TASKER and you now know which is why I need to damn deeptest.apk
temporary root is somewhat a good idea however is not fit in my case since my realme 7 pro bought over e-bay India so that anything brick I seems have big trouble sending back & forth for repair.
It is still good hints about temporary root as I never heard of ................
Hope I'm not soon to say goodbye & sell it due to long time waiting and without root. ., it happened on me once on the Vivo 19 that I sold it when I confirm it definately not root-friendly.
Thank you very much !!!!

I have already unlocked the bootloader. But we will have to wait till kernel source code is released for custom recovery and rooting.
