S10 plus not getting any updates (via computer, OTA, anything) Can't find any help! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay I got S10+ 4 months after it came out and immediately switched from AT&T to Tmobile (yes they did unlock my phone). Ever since then I have not received a single update. I have not gotten the One UI 2.0, android 10...anything.
I have installed the samsung software on my computer were it backs all your stuff up and then you can update the software.
I have tried OTA software as well. They all say that the phone is up to date. I'm still on android 9 and one UI 1
I have contact Tmboile and samsung and have been back and forth between them and they keep telling me to go to the other company. Samsung has fully rolled and updated all s10+ but I can not get an update. I'm losing my mind here. How can I force an update to this?

@Not_Vlad_Putin
Android updates ( OTAs ) always get rolled out by device manufacturer, if they think it's necessary to do so, and nobody else. And I'm pretty sure Samsung will do the devil to serve you with an Android upgrade.

lost lte after OTA update

So after my wife complaining how annoyed she is with the OTA request popping up every 12 hours, i decided to get her phone to accept. She was on a 4.0 version of AOKP, so i safeboot restored her stock rom and uninstalled safeboot.
the update went well but now she has no 4g and cannot send any emails. Is there a fix for this? I found one thread where people said there is no fix as somehow the hardware got corrupted (apparent happened to a lot of people). Some people were lucky and were still under warranty and others just bought a new phone or got one from ebay. Well shes just over a year so the warranty is out of the question, and we cant really afford a new phone at the moment.
This is kinda bull**** as she had an LG ally before this that broke with an OTA and verizon refused to do anything about it.
Hopefully there is some workaround.

my friend can you try doing rsd lite with fastboot files again like a clean install of the jb update using fastboot files and see if that helps or not. sometimes the ota is corrupted but the fastboot install fixes them. try and let me know thanks

Update?

There may be thread out there I've not seen but does anyone know when AT&T plans to re-release an update for this phone? Long overdue
They are skipping 4.4.3 and going straight to 4.4.4 which, from my understanding is in test right now.
-Sent from a payphone...
They are always over due... Drives me nuts. Now we're hearing about lolipop coming and were still hoping for 4.4.4. Pretty sure they are the worst when it comes to updates. Were always last.
Well would you rather have a s5 without an unlockable bootloader, but gets official updates or HTC who make the devices bootloader unlockable, but get updates later ?

Actually, Samsung is just now rolling out 4.4.4 as well. And Verizon and T-Mobile started rolling out 4.4.4 for the M8 yesterday, so its not HTC.
Yes, AT&T is always last. Although with the M8, they've been better about lagging the other carriers on updates. Instead of being 3 or more months later (as on some past devices), updates for the M8 have been within a couple weeks (although yes, the 4.4.3 update was botched and pulled). So lets hope the update is rolling out soon!
I've never received any kind of official update partially because I've always rooted my phone as soon as I got it. I can understand why people are so ready for these updates though. It'll come when it comes. I think earlier I didn't finish my train of thought. Samsung devices love locking the bootloader ( take for instance the s5. I still think its not unlocked yet); however, its seemed like samsung get their updates quicker. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong..While on the other hand HTC ship their phones with unlockable bootloaders, but updates don't come as quick...but as redpoint did point out. It's not always the manufactures that stall the update progress.

Bootlooping after Lollipop update

Here's the background: rooted my Kyocera Brigadier last June with King Root. Installed Titanium Backup and used it to delete Verizon's bloatware from the system. I did not make backups of the programs I deleted. Phone has run great, except the last few months would not notify me when voice mail messages were left for me. In November started getting notices for updating system to Lollipop. I've been exiting out of the notice half a dozen times a day ever since. Finally, three nights ago decided to do the update. Charged battery to 100%, backed up programs and settings with Titanium backup, and tried to delete King Root. There was no option to uninstall the app in App Manager, so I disabled and re-started phone. Checked phone for root with Root Checker, found it was no longer rooted, and initiated the update. After an hour, phone would vibrate, display "Powered by Android" then the "Kyocera" splash screen, then go black, and go through the cycle all over again. I plugged the phone in to keep it charged, and let it run the cycle over night without trying to interrupt it in case the update was taking longer than expected. Next morning, same thing - vibrate, splash screens, black screen, repeat. So, I have found that I can get the phone into stock Recovery, and I have executed the "factory reset", and "clear cache" commands. Phone still does the bootloop routine. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to rescue my phone?
Same thing happened to me last night! So aggravating! I've been searching all day and found nothing for this phone. There's not much support since the bootloader is still locked down. Couldn't find a stock rom or anything otherwise we might be able to flash it through fastboot. I think we may just be screwed unless Verizon will replace it. Probably gonna try to get a replacement tomorrow. :crying:
A guy at the Verizon store fiddled with it yesterday for 1/2 an hour, mostly going into Recovery and doing the same things I already tried. They said, "sometimes these old phones aren't compatible with the new software", then offered to sell me a new phone. I asked, and they said that there is no service place to send the phone for repair, Verizon just treats these units as disposable. Break it and it's time for a new one, at your own cost, even if it's Verizon's update that broke it. I'll be checking with Verizon support to see if the guys in the store were mistaken about repairs, but I suspect they know what they are talking about. I may fiddle with the "Software Update Assistant" (I found on the Verizon website) later this evening, and see if it will work with the phone in Recovery.
Is there a way to permanently disable the OTA notification?

I'm not sure. You could check under Settings > System Updates to see if there's a disable option under there.

I would definitely talk to tech support, I chatted with a Verizon rep because I had to activate an older phone because of this problem and they said that would be the best option. I'm not totally confident in the knowledge of a lot of Verizon store employees. I think if this happens because of their update then it should be their responsibility to replace or repair the phone free of charge and if we complain loud and long enough then we might get somewhere. As for the "Software Update Assistant" is that a downloadable program? I checked on the Verizon website and I'm having a hard time locating it if it is. From what I read it looks like it's something that starts up when you plug the phone in but of course it would have to be working already. Also, I don't think this phone has a download mode which would allow the computer to pick it up as a USB device. I know if you boot it into the bootloader it will show up as Android Bootloader Interface so maybe we can do something from there. I couldn't get mine to show up while in recovery mode. Maybe if someone can get a copy of the Verizon firmware update we can flash the update through ADB.
OlafTheOx
I found the upgrade assistant on my computer actually so no need for the link. If you need the program, PM me and I'll send it to you somehow. Maybe you can do something with it. I messed up my recovery mode so I can't boot into it to see if it will work but it's not doing anything in the bootloader. If you happen to have a copy of your recovery.img that would be amazing. If you can fix yours and then make a copy of the recovery.img that would be much appreciated. Let me know.
Update:
After some research, I discovered DMClient is the app that handles OTA updates on our phone. Froze it in Titanium Backup (Pro needed). Boom. No more annoying OTA notifications.

Could you possibly make a copy of your recovery image? I can't seem to find anything of any use for this phone on any forums.

I have a TWRP-made backup of my recovery, if that would help? I made it by fastbooting (NOT FLASHING) the TWRP build found here:

PM me and I can give you a temporary dropbox link.
I need the stock rom or some sort of file to restore my Brigadier. Please PM me with links. And what program do I use to load the rom into this phone?
Well, if anyone is interested, my phone is up and running. I wound up sending it to the Kyocera repair center in Texas. They took about 3 weeks to make the repair and ship it back to me. They installed Lollipop (along with all the Verizon bloatware). It appears that they did the repair under warranty, which surprised me, since I bought the phone used last summer. No invoice to pay. Cost me $20 to insure and ship it by UPS. The info on how to send it in is at this address https://www.kyoceramobile.com/support/repairs/united-states/faq/ Be warned, they were not very communicative about it. I got one email to acknowledge receipt of the phone, then it just showed up one day by FedEx. No paperwork in the box, just the phone. Not complaining, mind you, just try not to get too anxious while waiting if you send your phone in.
What version of Lollipop do you have now? I'm curious if it is the last... I was about to send my broken phone to repair center last year but decided to fix it myself... Now it's fully working without their help. LP without bloatware and with root. Good choice...

Android version: 5.1.1
Software version: 2.906VZ
I've been getting prompts to update the firmware again. The prompts started 2 days after I got my phone up and running. Apparently, the repair center didn't have the latest version of Verizon's OS. The update prompts are for Software version: 2.955VZ according to Verizon's support website. Not sure if I'll try to root the phone any time soon, so I'm tempted to go ahead and do the update, hoping for the best since I haven't screwed with the system yet. I may try rooting with Kingroot again, if the unrooted experience turns out to be as aggravating as I expect it will be.
Anybody brave enough to try Flashfire to install the OTA (possibly) more safely?

Anyone bricked from OTA to marshmallow?

Just wondering if anyones n915v verizon has bricked from taking an over the air OTA update to Marshmallow? I heard this was a problem. But don't know if it pertains to verizons in the united states.

Yes. since Marshmallow OTA, my phone has mmc fail errors and reboots constantly.
Ruined Phone
When I got the OTA update to knock it up to Software Update Ver. MMB29M.N915VVRU2CPG2, I thought it would work just fine.
Unfortunately for me, I was gravely mistaken. The OS consistently restarts, I am getting the “Could not do normal boot, mmc_read failed” error, as well as a ton of other problems, not to mention the constant freezing. I had to rollback my firmware to D1 instead of G2 in order to keep my phone from crapping out on me
I am seriously starting to debate just loading a custom ROM, but I have yet to delve into rooting my android phone. I only used to jailbreak iOS devices years back, but I luckily made the switch to Android, and since then I haven't really found the need to jailbreak my phone, apart from getting rid of the bloatware.
So yeah, stick to D1 firmware while you get the chance. If you accidentally update it, just use Odin like normal
EDIT: Not sure if I need to say this, but it's not just OTA that gives issues. Updated via Smart Switch, and it bogs it down as well.

Question P6 no longer sees simcard; likely after the November security patch

The TLDR is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving my phone indicated no service. I think I had allowed the November security patch to go through in the morning. In the afternoon I noticed I had no service. At first I thought Google Fi was messed up so I spent some time with tech support trying to get the esim and/or physical sim to load. Eventually I put the Google Fi sim in my old One Plus 5 and proved the Google Fi service was fine and my P6 has some issue.
The phone can't "see" any tower. You run cell mapper and nothing is seen. In setup the physical sim is not seen nor is the esim. In fact I can't even see any IMEI numbers.
i decided to flash the Android 13 OS from the google website. I run Opensuse linux and have adb installed. The flash worked fine but still the sim card is not seen.
reddit thread
I have this reddit thread going. One person has the exact same problem, sent the phone to google and they sent it back not working,
I see there are beta OS for Android 13 and also older Android 12 images. I noted the rather complicated warning about bricking your P6 and will admit it is beyond my understanding. Basically I did the normal OTA update which is differential then flashed the full current Android 13 image.
Any ideas? Should I try to go back to Android 12? Is there some firmware I can flash.
Someone might want to let that reddit thread know that upon updating to Android 13 you CANNOT revert to Android 12 without hard bricking the unit. With Android 13 the bootloader was changed to prevent downgrading to Android 12.
Ok that i will do that post.
BTW did I do any harm by flashing Android 13?
Nope. Android 13 fixed a lot of annoyances found in 12. Both the P6 my roomie uses - my former phone - and my P6P took the Android 13 update without any issues.

I have exactly the same problem, since the november update, it's like the modem died or something... I removed the sim card from the P6P and use it on the pixel 4a; pixel 4a runs smoothly; I hope the December update fixes this... But I'm pretty sure it won't.

I haven't had service for 2 weeks, since I upgraded... before I had connectivity issues, but since the upgrade I've lost all connectivity
Just a FYI, Google Fi is trying to get me to pay $79 even though my phone is only 6 months old. This is crap of course. I suggest not clicking on the agreement for this fee if you swap the phone. You click it and they will charge you.
I have yet to get any feedback from the bug report I uploaded. I am going to phone Google Fi rather than deal with the chat. Perhaps the tech support is different.
I'm not sure what happened but my phone stopped recognising the sim card last week. After trying a series of different things, I eventually got a new sim card from my phone service provider and once it was activated everything was working again. It could just be a coincidence because I don't know how the update could have corrupted my original sim card but at least everything is alright now.
