Firecube app icon location - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Does anyone know the location of the app icon that the Firecube uses to display on the home screen etc? I've tried all the usual drawable folders but can't get it to display.

Yes, but within the apk where does the image that the Firecube uses live?

Within its resources. Each APK file is just a zip archive, so you can try to extract it with any zip utility (e.g. 7zip). The resources will be extracted and can be viewed

Thanks, but I've already checked all the drawable folders and searched for png and jpg files but I can't find the logo that is used on the Firecube. It appears to be a different logo than the one used on a Firestick.

Compiling framework res help

Hi i am trying to edit the framework res apk so i can change the text colour and the themed clock colour. I can decompile with apktool and change the colors.xml but after compiling framework res i just get stuck in a bootloop. I have tried just copying the reaources file to my original framework but still bootloops. I have searched google and here and finding it hard to find a solution. One thing i noticed in 7zip it says that for resources the OS is FAT but on the edited one it is UNIX as well as being a smaller file when compressed. If anyone can help that will be great.* Thanks

sign the apk as a system app.
no you shouldn't have to sign it just rename unsigned framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk and reflash to phone it shouldn't bootloop when you compiled did you select yes to system file and yes to copy everything then delete what was in keep file? If its an XML when you delete from keep file you have to delete the file you modified also.

Did you choose Store as the compression method when adding the Resource file to your original apk?

I originally just renamed mine and got a bootloop. Signed it as a system apk and stuck it in an update.zip and flashed it and it worked. Also, as the above post mentions, store must be selected as the compression method.

Looking for an app to manage download...

Hello, I'm looking for an app to automatically sort downloads in different folder with custom filters, for example when I'm downloading pics it will automaticaly place files with .jpg / .jpeg / .png / .gif / .bmp in the folder downloads/pictures, for .pdf in the folder download/pdf, for .apk in the folder downloads/apk etc... Is there an app like that?
I am using this app. Download Manager per Android :https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS50dC5hbmRyb2lkLmRtLnZpZXciXQ..

Replacing png in apk

Hi everyone,
From my understanding, if we want to change the pngs in an apk, we can simply open it with 7zip, then replace the pngs, it's done.
I took EventStreamPluginCallLog.apk from arc s which is updated to ICS.
The apk can be installed in xperia s and it is working fine.
However, when I change the png named icon in res > drawable-hdpi > icon.png
The apk can no longer be installed.
So I go with decompiling and recompiling the apk using apktool, no error shown but I still can't install it
Any idea? Thanks
did you sign it after recompiling?
System apps don't need to be signed. What i did for system apps is:
Decompile app
Replace png
Recompile app
Use TickleMyAndroid -> Prepare files for pushing.

I thought the same even it says no need for system apk, I still do it and get the same problem, can't install

I tried everything I know. Apk Multi Tool, simply apktool only, direct replace PNG with 7zip (compression changed to deflate), direct replace with winrar (compression method retained as store), it just doesn't want to install.
I have tried TickyMyAndroid, I am not sure if I done thing correctly but I see no error when recompiling yet can't be installed. My goodness. Time to forget about this stuff

---> Question Extracting APKs <--- Pls look

So I know how to extract APKs with APK manager.
However, I want to know, when you extract APKs, where are the images of the APK located?
In which folder when you extract the APK files, are the images?
- It used to be easier back in the day, you would extract and all the images would just be there.
to get images folder you dont need to use apktool/manager.. use 7zip.. then extract. you get res folder .. all images in there... you find which one you to replace and rename to it, drag n drop to corresponding folder ur renamed one after opening apk in 7zip... no need to sign apk or whatver

Yes, but not all the images are there.. Where are the rest of the images?

Most of the images should be there but if not you will have to either go through all of the lies to find them or you can search for them.

How do I get the .png files from Icon packs?

Sorry if this is the wrong section.. But is there a way I could get all icons separately from a free icon pack instead of just the .apk?
do a google search see if the icons are free and available then download them, you can't take specific icons from a theme

If it is just a icon pack and you are rooted you can move the .apk from device/data/app to a folder in your /sdcard. Rename the .apk to .zip and extract it. One of the folders will contain all of the .png files. I use ES File Explorer, settings Root and Show Hidden Files.

I have been using Theme X to break out iconsets into .png files.
You can just move the apk to your pc and open it with winrar... then just extracr drawables folder!
