Huawei has launched HMS Core Services 4.0 which promises to bring efficient application development, rapid growth, and flexible monetization. Let's take a close look at HMS core services and see how they help developers.
Huawei Mobile Services Core (HMS) Development Forums
HMS Core Services 4.0 includes the following features:
Some of these services may seem familiar to you, as a number of them date back many years. Features like Account Kit have had time to mature and be polished with many updates. Other services like Location Kit and Analytics Kit and newer and have only been around since late 2019. The latest release of 4.0 includes ML Kit, Awareness Kit, Scan Kit, Nearby Service, as well as all the features shown in the graphic above. Huawei still plans on adding many more features in future updates.
So why would a developer want to choose HMS over GMS? HMS Core's service scope already encompasses most of the services in GMS Core. Huawei has also been a little bolder in exploring new terrain where GMS hasn't bothered to venture. For instance, with HUAWEI ML Kit, HMS Core is a step ahead of GMS Core in providing machine learning capabilities. Although Google has cutting-edge artificial intelligence capabilities, it has not yet added machine learning to GMS Core.
These are some of the ways that HMS 4.0 is helping developers, and offering an alternative solution to GSM.

Singapore Developers Event Review in October

To know more about the voices of local developers and interact with them, HMS Core ecosystem expansion support team and online operation team have worked with frontline colleagues in Singapore to actively choose the event themes which meet current requirements of developers and plan a series of activities. Two activities, including online developer sharing and offline lab visit, attracted more than 70 developers till date of publication.
Online developer sharing meeting:
Monthly developer sharing meetings focus on different industries. On October 14, Huawei representatives introduced the future market strategy and incentive policies for Startups to integrate HMS Core. We also discussed with developers the technical advantages of HMS Core compared with competitors and the app migration methods. The experienced sharing and easy interaction of the whole event gave developers an excellent communication experience. More than 90% of the participants said that they wanted to participate in the event continuously and get familiar with more HMS Core information to prepare for future integration.

Offline lab visit:
On October 21, Singapore's DigiX Lab was officially launched and developers were invited to visit the Lab. The activity started with the theme "HMS opens up potential growth space", focusing on HMS building AI life, and decrypting the internal driver of HMS selection by developers outside China. Then, we introduced the core capabilities of the HMS Core to developers and analyzed the business advantages of the HMS Core solution that are time and labor saving, quick integration, and monetization.
The next "1+8+N solution experience" will undoubtedly lead developers. The experience room provides participants with six themes. The key values of HMS Core are directly conveyed through the TV screen. Demos and real cases are provided on tablets and mobile phones, so that participants can fully understand the application of HMS Core scenario solution in multiple dimensions. The HQ ecosystem development and online operation team provided full suggestions on the material layout of the experience room, and provided the full set of materials for large and small screens in three scenarios, including AR interaction, AI smart life, and taking the lead in cutting-edge technologies in the vertical domain of e-commerce
Through this activity, 15% CPs plan to hold HMS Core technical meetings in Huawei, and 20% CPs are in-depth integration.

Huawei Developers & Republic Polytechnic school Talk Series Review

To learn more about students' voices in the development field of universities and improve the overall influence of HMS Core. Since November, the HMS Core ecosystem expansion support team and online operation team have worked with frontline colleagues in Singapore to actively seek the theme of activities that meet local development requirements and plan a series of college activities. On November 26, Huawei and Republic Polytechnic of Singapore held the first university science and technology seminar. The event focused on the AR&VR field and attracted Over 100 students from the university.
This activity consists of three parts, focusing on the full layout of Huawei ecosystem, Huawei AppGallery overview, and HMS Core capabilities. Firstly, Charles Lee from HUAWEI Singapore showed the Huawei All-scenario intelligent ecosystem driven by mutually-reinforcing software and hardware systems from the perspective of global mobile application development.

Then, Huawei Singapore DTSE Heng Wei Li introduced the principle and logic of mobile application development from the perspective of Android application development foundation, and briefly demonstrated the program development process. Finally, we introduce the core capabilities of HMS Core in 7 vertical domains (50+ Kits), which helps students learn more about HMS Core.
The last session was delivered by Si Hao Liu, the HMS Core product manager at Huawei, which was also the key event of this activity. The topic were “ML smart your Apps” and “AR vivid your Apps”. The integration stories of “BaiMiao” and “Banggood” are used to demonstrate that the ML Kit of HMS Core enables developers in different domains in terms of text, image, body, and custom model, implementing Wide Device Coverage and Global Coverage, core values such as Data Security and Customizable Training Model to bridge AI to Your App.
The AR Kit of HMS Core provides developers with virtual and reality convergence capabilities through body tracking, motion tracking, and environment tracing, and plays a great role in virtual games, virtual shopping, and virtual education.
As the first event in the cooperation series with universities in Singapore, this event focuses on AI field to help more students have a comprehensive understanding of HMS Core capabilities. More seminars and integration activities will be held in the future.

HMS Core Unleashes Innovative Solutions at HDC 2022

HMS Core made a show of its major tech advancements and industry-specific solutions during the HUAWEI DEVELOPER CONFERENCE 2022 (Together), an annual tech jamboree aimed at developers that kicked off at Songshan Lake in Dongguan, Guangdong.
As the world becomes more and more digitalized, Huawei hopes to work with developers to offer technology that benefits all. This is echoed by HMS Core through its unique and innovative services spanning different fields.
In the media field, HMS Core has injected AI into its services, of which Video Editor Kit is one example. This kit is built upon MindSpore (an algorithm framework developed by Huawei) and is loaded with AI-empowered, fun-to-use functions such as highlight, which can extract a segment from the input video, according to a specified duration. Not only that, the power consumption of this kit is cut by 10%.
Alongside developer-oriented services, HMS Core also showcased its user-oriented tools, such as Petal Clip. This HDR Vivid-supported video editing tool delivers a fresh user experience, offering a wealth of functions for easy editing of video.
HMS Core has also updated its services for the graphics field: 3D Modeling Kit debuted auto rigging this year. This function lets users generate a 3D model of a biped humanoid object simply by taking photos with a standard mobile phone camera, and then simultaneously performs rigging and skin weight generation, lowering the modeling threshold.
3D Modeling Kit is particularly useful in e-commerce scenarios. Bilibili merchandise (online market provided by the video streaming and sharing platform Bilibili) has planned to use auto rigging to display products (like action figures) through 3D models. In this way, a more immersive shopping experience can be created. A 3D model generated with the help of 3D Modeling Kit lets users manipulate a product to check it from all angles. Interaction with such a 3D product model not only improves user experience but also boosts the conversion rate.

Moving forward, HMS Core will remain committed to opening up and innovating software-hardware and device-cloud capabilities. So far, the capabilities have covered seven fields: App Services, Graphics, Media, AI, Smart Device, Security, and System. HMS Core currently boasts 72 kits and 25,030 APIs, and it has gathered 6 million registered developers from around the world and seen over 220,000 global apps integrate its services.
Huawei has initiated programs like the Shining Star Program and Huawei Cloud Developer Program. These services and programs are designed to help developers deliver smart, novel digital services to more users, and to create mutual benefits for both developers and the HMS ecosystem.
