Hello everybody
I had a problem with my headphone jack, the previous owner destroyed it using a broken pair of earbuds, so the system didn't recognise the plug/unplug and when routing media to headphones (using SoundAbout) the sound was weird, so I decided to replace the part.
The problem is: the vibration module on the new one doesn't work at all. I tried checking via Z Device test and it doesn't react in any way. The old one works fine, so it's not me AFAIK. Is there anything I can do apart from sending the part back?
Is there any way I can test the secondary mic? I would like to know if it's defective too
EDIT: Apparently, the title disappeared. Can a mod edit it to 'Jack replacement'? Thx a lot

S3 always showing pluged in earphones icon. Module replacement didn't help.

Hello
I have problem with my s3 i9300. Last week I recognised that earphones icon is always showing that they are pluged in, even if they not. I ve tried to reinstall firmware, fully cleaned cache, tried to clean socket with compressed air. Nothing helped. However, using SoundAbout app sound plays nicely thru speaker and thru headphones. (so it should mean parts are working).
Today I received headphones/speaker module replacement from ebay. I replaced it, but now its even worse, speaker not making any sound at all and earphones icon is still on top all the times (I asked for refund on ebay because I think the module is broken). However, because its still showing headphones icon, I think problem is somewhere else.
Any Ideas what else I can do, before taking phone to service and being there robbed?
I appreciate your help!
First, if you changed that module, Samsung official Service can't do anything about it. As they would say it is your fault. You should have gone to the service first. At least to ask they if they have a solution. I saw you deleted cache, but try first to backup everything, and then format all partitions (save backup on SD card). Then flash another ROM.
You said that now speakers aren't working now, but does the headphones work ? Are you sure you didn't damaged some of speaker's components while changing the jack ?

Ive bought this phone secondhand without warranty so Samsung service cannot help me anyway.
How to format internal storage? You really think it could help?
Its just my English, that's why I cannot explain clearly. Sorry for that
Module 1
Original headphones/speaker module issues:
1) Earphones icon always on top
2) Media is playing only thru headphones (ringing tone/notifications working fine, sound can be redirected to play from speaker using SoundAbout).
Module 2
Headphones/Speaker module from Ebay issues:
1) Earphones icon always on top
2) Media is playing only thru headphones
3) Ringing tone/notifications not working. (Media cannot be redirected to play sound from speaker using SoundAbout app)
4) No sound at all from speaker
I have played around with both modules a few times. Everytime I plug it in, they got same issues.
Anyway, I'll try to reinstall different firmware now. I'll let you know results, but honestly I dont believe It could help because I've never used custom ROM. All firmwares I've installed are from SAM mobile site.
Internal memory format and new firmware (I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU) installation didn't help. Galaxy still thinks that earphones are pluged in.

Problem headphone jack detection

Hi guys,
I just got an VS985 and I'm already fighting with him.
I got the following issue: Everytime I try to make a call, the "headphone" icon will appear in the notification area and the call will work, but witout any sound. If I put speaker, I'll be able to listen without any problem, but disabling will have the previous result.
After the call ends, the icon will remain in the notification area.
If I try to call with headset, 0 problem, everything ok. The issue appears to be that the phone doesn't detect when a headphone is actually connected or the headphone jack is faulty, but I'm unsure.
I've heard that the G3 has general issues with the headphone jack, but mainly on the Pause button working by its own, not the same as this.
I tried updating to 5.1 (35B stock) and the result is the same. Whatsapp calls show the same behavior. There's any known fix for this? (the headphone hole is clean) If I replace the headphone jack might solve the issue? (I have no problem replacing it, I repair cellphones).
Thanks for your time!
BB
Well, I ended up opening and apparently it was refurbished and the contacts of the headphone jack werernt that great, also there was some double sided tape on them.
Clean it, forced the contacts a little bit more open and voila everything works.
btw, strange system for the jack contacts.

OK Google is not allowing to listen to Music on Redmi Note 3

Hi All RN3 users,
I am writing this from India, using a Redmi Note3 Snapdragon, 32gb, running MIUI Global 8.0.6.0
I have been using this RN3 since 2 months now. I am music fan and was happily listening to songs on Rocket Player and few other Music players with Philips Earphone which I had got with Philips 1GB Mp3 player many years ago. It was a TRS jack and was working fine.
Suddenly few days ago the earphone went dead. After this I have been trying few others like JBL Headphone, LG earphone(TRRS) etc.
Everytime I plug in the ear/headphone and switch on the music player, the song plays for about 4 seconds and then OK Google voice assistant opens up on its own and stops the music. Push it to background and manually resume the music, it appears again. With my old Philips earphone I never had this problem and the top bar icon was always of headphone only. Now it changes to earphone with mic icon before OK google appears.
I browsed the net for solutions, forced stop the google app, disabled voice detection in settings, tried rebooting, tried 2-3 new earphones but no use.
According to some users who are facing this problem, it is a earphone jack and audio port hardware issue, earphone is being mistaken somehow as microphone and so the voice app is appearing.
But it was not there with my old model Philips earphone
Even now this problem is not there when I am playing FM Radio !!
No problem when playing the music with Phone Speaker
But only when playing music from music player apps and with Earphones inserted.
From net browsing I learned that even other brands like LG G3, HTC, Galaxy phones are facing this and with good branded earphones like Sennheiser, SoundMagic, JBL.
Also this problem was not there with MIUI v8050.
Is it a bug or a hardware issue? Is my audio-port damaged?
PLEASE help me solve this. What is the guarantee that buying a new earphone would solve this issue?
Hey Google, It is NOT OK to stop playing music.
I was also facing the same issue, and no its not a hardware issue. I solved this issue by modifying mixer file in /system/etc/ by changing a line from HIFI to LP and then a reboot.
Can you please give detailed info how to edit that file. Full path where to locate that file.
My phone is not rooted, I don't know how to root. I hope the solution you have suggested doesn't need rooting.
Open Google > Settings > Voice > Hands Free > uncheck "For wired Headsets".
OK google Detection > Disable everything...
Try this and see if the problem was gone

Hi madkiran, I have tried doing this and sorry to say it did not help. What you have suggested is the only action we as non-expert users could attempt.
I fail to understand how despite disabling it pops up once music starts playing.

MI5 - audio speaker issues - workaround

I ended up with what I thought was a broken earpiece speaker: During calls, I could not hear anything through my earpiece, but putting the call to speakerphone worked.
Also, all media palyback was mute (youtube, VLC, audiobook player ...). Headphones continued to work. I played around with all the audio settings, nothing.
So I assumed a broken earpiece and ordered a new one. I took my MI5 apart and replaced the earpiece, but nothing changed: Earpiece stayed silent, headphones and speaker worked.
By that, I already factory reseted and flashed new LOS builds and firmwares back and forth. No change.
Yesterday I came up with the idea to write an app that routes all audio to my surround speaker ... I researched the Playstore to check if anything like that already existed, and I came up with an app called SoundAbout which I used to route all audio to the speaker instead of the earpiece.
So far so good.
But even better: I configured it to route all media sounds from "let app decide" to "earpiece", and to my surprise it worked!
Setting it back to "let app decide", I dont hear anything: The setting "earpiece" makes it working again.
My question is: The issue is clearly software related, somehow I managed to break my audio routing, which survives flashing new builds and even factory resets as far as I can tell.
I am on official LOS 20170425, 7.4.14 firmware, official su addon. No custom kernel, no magisk or any battery saving trickery ...
Does anyone have an idea what I can check to fix my audio routing again? Anyone experienced something similar? I will buy that SoundAbout app because it just saved me from buying a new MI5/MI5s/MI6, but I would still like to understand how I managed to break my audio routing like this. The fact that it survivd factory resets makes me think it might be firmware related (I am using the ones from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/tool-flashable-firmware-twrp-easy-t3474898) ...
Ok, after several months, I finally figured it out.
It was not a firmware issue after all, but hardware: My 3.5mm audio headphone jack was blocked, meaning the trigger for detecting a headphone was jammed.
The phone constantly thought a headphone was inserted, and so switched to headphone mode, trying to play all sounds and media to the headphone audio port where nothing was present.
Thats the reason why e.g. SoundAbout was a working workaround: It simply ignores the headphone-inserted-trigger and forces all audio to speaker or earpiece.
I found out about the b,ocked trigger with another tool that simply shows if a headphone was inserted or not, and that tool constantly showed that something was inserted.
Unfortunately you cannot get a replacement headphone-jack for the MI5 (redmi and mi4s are available, but no mi5 for some reason), only the whole mainboard for 140$. But I took my MI5 apart anywayto see if I can get that trigger unstuck (tried a small needle and qtip before, but didnt work). I could not get it unstuck, and instead removed the whole headphone jack from my MI5 mainboard, meaning I actually broke a small piece of my mainboard out ... but it worked nontheless: Now that the audio port is gone, my phone no longer thinks a headphone is present, and all audio issues are gone.
Now that I removed the audio port I obvously can no longer use my headphones, so I ordered an usb-type-c-to-audio-adapter for 5$ (after checking that xiaomi usb-type-c headphones cost 50$, which I consider waaaayy too expensive).
So, if anyone has a similar problem where it looks like your phone doesnt play any audio, check out "headset toggle" from the play store to see if the headphone-trigger is broken.
