The Fold 2, is it time to join in? - Samsung Galaxy Fold Guides, News, & Discussion

Title pretty much says it; I'm thinking about getting the next iteration of the Fold. I was going to buy this one but I ended up with a P4 and a laptop and a few other toys instead because they took too long. In any event the next go around sounds like it's gaining some useful durability which is a plus and I'm eager to try the folding paradigm.
What say you? Glad you bought the Fold? Think round 2 might still be a little early to buy in? Feel free to call em as you see em, I'm not looking for someone to agree with me, I'm trying to figure out if it might be better to sit out for another round or not.

Iv jad the first fold on 4th Feb and I love the phone its totally up to you if you wait or jump in with the fold i love mine

i've had the fold since Dec. 7, and still no hardware issues.
my device has gotten the android 10 update: my only complaints are: i wish it kept just 1 or 2 things from android 9, and i don't like 1 or 2 things from android 10
consider how you type on a daily basis. do you use 2 hands, or swype?, i swype, so the front display is still useful. most people say the front display is useless to them.
consider app development. the most annoying app for me so far, is youtube. even with the "fullscreen" button at the bottom right, i still get black bars, with no option to "fill screen" to get rid of them.
i use the phone naked, with a carrying pouch, the ever popular shocksock. i say hello no to those stupid chunky cases. if you are prepared to take a few extra changes and precautions with how you handle a phone, go for the fold.
don't be scared by peoples issues with the device. think about what their complaints are. usually it is user implemented, like the main screen being worn out, with the oleophobic coating rubbing off.
to answer your questions:
I am absolutely glad i bought this phone. there is nothing like it.
if you cannot adapt in any way to use a new style of phone, don'y buy it. many ppl use the phone for a few days then return it because "they didn't like it".
if money is an issue, don't buy it.
if you have some money, look at these Fold Special Edition rumors that are going around. assume it is a Fold 1.5
early to buy into the Fold 2? hard to tell. the patent pictures showed the same notch inside the device, with the front display larger, going edge to edge. for a Fold 1 owner, the Fold 2 might have too little changes to warrant paying the huge price again.
good luck with your purchase

I'm old, money isn't an issue. Also relatively technical so new things are not an impediment either. It's things like annoyances that make you want to throw it out the window, having to be absurdly careful, etc. Those are the type things I'd rather do without.

Pluses and minuses in the latest rumors: Probably no S-Pen but 120 HZ seems likely. UTG, possibly the new 5NM chipset which would be a big plus to people like me who wont own a phone that cant be rooted. No deal-breakers yet and you owners aren't doing anything to sway me one way or the other. I SAID YOU OWNERS AREN"T DOING ANYTHING TO SWAY ME ONE WAY OR THE OTHER! Oops, did I type that or was I just thinking it?

Just to add my 2 scents, I bought the fold last week as needed a new toy. Coming from a Note 10 5G, the only reason I didn't adopt to it earlier was the reviews, and even samsung themselves to some extent, regarding the durability/fragility of it. However I am pleasantly surprised. The build quality is excellent. Features are what I expect but the added screen real estate is there when I want it! Although I can easily get by with using the external smaller screen for messages etc. Its not that small. Yes the unnecessary size of the notch is annoying but so was the punch hole camera in the Note 10 but you learn to ignore after a while.
Even the crease in the screen i can't see when you are using it directly in front of your face. Only noticeable when you swipe across it or tilt the device so that the light bounces of it.
Other than that, loving the phone/tablet.

Had mine for 7 months, love it, absolutely no defects, screen is still perfect, phone when i need a phone tablet when I need a tablet - will defo go for the fold 2 when it is eventually released,

How is Samsung Fold? i dont hear good reviews about this phone.

Do you still have the Fold? i have heard that the phone screen is easily scratch able.

From what I can tell it should be fine as long as you don't scuff the main screen with finger nails or keep it open in pockets where keys and coins could damage it.

Still have it and I use it every day. Screen is still perfect!

Thanks guys, that's one of my main concerns, I take car of my phones because they're not cheap anymore but I am not stupidly careful and I don't want to have to be stupid careful. Ordinary care I can handle.

I deffo recommend getting a shocksock pocket fluff becomes like belly button fluff lol

I'm looking at the Fold 2 as well. I've read many posts & watched videos on the Z Flip mainly to see reviews on that screen since the Fold 2 is supposed to have a similar (& hopefully an even better) version. Different than the original Fold screen type/material. I wanted that first Fold so badly. Been waiting for years for something like it. I ordered it but when it was canceled "for me" (after the debacle) I never re-ordered. Got the Note 10+ now & longing for a Note Fold but maybe that will arrive next year. Still, very interested in the Fold 2.

Same, I cancelled after the delays became longer than my patience but I'm still quite interested.

There are not alternatives! LG is a joke, Huawei far away from to be a trusted partner for Android based devices and what the ****, the display is one the outside!
So, the Fold is the only one. Available today! With 5G connectivity! With Wave 6 WLAN!! 12G RAM, 512GB Storage.
A phone, a tablet to go and a Desktop PC. I use this features all the day. Money doesn't matter, just my user experience!

Will that also apply to the Note 20?

No, the 5nm chip was going to b the exynos which can usually be rooted. The current situation isn't quite clear on whether there will be the 990 in the European and Indian phones or if everyone is going to get the Snapdragon. Hope seems to be fading on the 992 at any rate. We'll have to wait and see what shakes out in the next few weeks but the primary concept is that not being able to root is a hard pass deal breaker for me and the rumor that the 992 would be in there on some variants was probably going to be good news in that regard. The 990 would be much less so since it's going to be significantly slower that the new plus which is said to be clocked at over 3 gigaherts in the NA and other variants. In this case you probably gain root but at a performance penalty that might be more of a sphincter stretcher than I want to take.

Ok, I'll wait for the announcement. Thanks bro.

All released Fold versions (Gen1, Gen1+) shipped globally with Snapdragon Socs. The heat of current Exynos SoCs makes too much trouble with throtteling in too small cases.
All you need to take care of the current Fold version is to find the case that will protect your camera glas on the back. The fibercase shipped by Samsung with the Fold 5G case isn't.

What do you feel about Galaxy S III ?

So now we have seen the great galaxy s3
I have three question
1-What do you feel about it ?
2-Did it satisfy you or did it disappoint you ?
3-are you going to buy it ?
Actually I was only disappointed by the design ,, but also some people who tried the galaxy s3 in the unpcak , said that it feels good in the hands
Secondly I am very impressed by the hard were
And the screen ,, I know it's pen tile
But hey with samsung's amoled Every screen will look gorgeous
Before I see the s3 I decided that I may buy HTC one X but now i I'm sure that I will buy the s3 because I know that it will be the greatest phone for the next six months then the galaxy note 2 or the new nexus will take the lead
the main selling point for me is the screen..we tech nerds like clear screen and picky about it maybe i just have good eye sight or got spoiled on my crappy iphone 4 screen had the note but returned it do to screen pixel issues and waited for theGS3 to come out but now im a bit eh about it due to screen should of been a plus+ HD..so tomorrow im going to best buy and get the HTC One X for a test drive..
like about GS3..screen size is nice/battery/SD card slot removable/design is ok not drooling over it could of been better like that mock up pic with that big clock widget on it that was nice mock up..just not digging the pentile screen..
like on HTC One X..design/screen...dont like..no sd card/removable battery/16GB on att version i think i can live with 16GB plus the 25/30GB of drop box thanks to grandfather unlimited data but still get slown down at 5GB on LTE but i can live with it.ill hit around that much of data by the end of the month..att sucks for doing this.! att version should have came with 32GB internal as well like the international version..plus the battery could of been a 2000mah for more use but i think the S4 chip helps with power consumption just depends on user/settings/how they use it ect.. if the HTC One X had a SD card slot and removable battery that would of been a winner IMO..
decisions decisions decisions us tech nerd geeks make huh most regular consumers wont care about pentile/not pentile screens..us nerds want the most high end out of the device so that said phone battle awaits for 2012 HTC One X/GS3/iPhone 5/Nexus..not sure about note 2 that to me is a hybrid and a nice hybrid device oh i miss my note in a way darn you pentile screens
1-What do you feel about it ?
I like the front design which looks like a Nexus device, but not the back. Overall neutral, its expected from Samsung, I have zero worry about build quality. I also feel Samsung shouldn't pay Microsoft the Android royalty fees and as for Foxconn.. nm
2-Did it satisfy you or did it disappoint you ?
I generally reserve these feelings for women, but... Yes the benchmark of the Exynos quadcore is very good and it has Wolfson DAC for excellent sound quality. I'm not impressed by other features, overall its a fair improvement, but major leap from the SII.
3-are you going to buy it ?
No, I just bought a Galaxy Nexus. I do think the SIII is a great phone, but I'm not willing to buy it for its (predicted) released price when there are much cheaper Galaxy models that work just as well even though not as powerful, not to mention the One X and S. Though I will likely buy one during Christmas time if the price drop a lot by then, which I don't think it will due to quadcore still being a big fad. So I predict waiting for the next Nexus device, but I doubt I can resist the temptation to try out a different phone once every few months.
1) i like the look for the fact that they have gone for a minamilistic look in a rather hungry market.
2) i believe it will satisfy me
3) pre-ordered as soon as i could have which was the following morning, guy on phone said "this is the first one i have put through" and this was at like 9.05 am

1-i think its a great looking phone. but i am worried about the mm of black in between the edge of the screen and the beginning of the bezel. i am hoping that it was just an issue with the pre-production models. otherwise... its a huge flaw in my book. its like painting your living room without 'cutting in'... sloppy.
other than that i am totally digging everything samsung has done this time around. the software tweaks alone make this phone a little nugget of gold in my opinion. the gs2 is/was a great phone. the gs3 ups the bar for each and every manufacturer of each and every os. the gs3 totally stands out from the crowd in software.
2-i think you can probably tell that i am satisfied. i knew that the hardware was going to be very similar to the one x and the design was going to be normal samsung. i was on engadget a couple days before the release saying that in order for samsung to keep the removable battery... i feared that would mean a plastic back. so the design and 'plasticyness' of it was of no surprise to me.
i must say though that i was definitely pleasantly surprised with all of the software tweaks within touchwiz (which i actually dont mind). we knew the eye tracking stay awake thing was coming, but i was impressed with the pip. the raise to call. these new lockscreen gestures. the airplay and airplay powerpoint. etc.
3- i dunno. if i do buy it then i will most likely buy the international version. it will be a while before att gets lte into nashville. if it is anything like their uverse roll-out then i will be the last city to get it. not to mention i read somewhere that they needed to buy crickets lte spectrum in order to cover those areas, and just the other day i read that cricket was going to start rolling out their own lte soon. so things arent looking good for me and an hspa+ phone will be all i need for the next year until the gs4 is released. and i for sure dont care to buy a phone that has the same processor as every other high end phone that hits the states.

i was the same way when i went from the 4 and then a week of the 4s to the gs2. i couldnt wrap my head around not being able to read the small text when browsing. i eventually got used to it after a couple of months, but it did take that long for it to happen. if it wasnt for me loving android so much more than ios i probably would have gone back to the iphone myself.
i hope by test drive you mean 'until the gs3 comes out'. lol. the ppi is hitting 306 on a 4.8" screen. you arent going to care that it is pentile. the droid razr screen is pentile and i can barely tell a dif from my amoled+ gs2. if i were you i would wait another couple of weeks before i bought the one x. by then there will probably be a tentative date for the us release and if you time it right... you can get a months worth of use out of the one x and then return it for $35 when the gs3 comes out.

honestly ill sacrifice removable battery for waterproofness
lots of companies make extended battery cases that can be used if the battery doesnt fare well
BUT it should be expected to not have a removable battery on an HTC device now days, all their phones are built unibody
Luckily enough I'm not a clumsy person but I do give my note hell sometimes

I'm freaking out man! Definitely getting this or the note 3. s dragon 800 is looking mighty tasty. If the HTC has an SD card I'm kind of leaning that way. My logical side tells me my i717 running carbon/ uber is more than fine for anything i do. But I like new shiny stuff so #$%# logic.
Non removable batteries can be shaped anyway they want. That's why the Z Ultra is so thin. As for the HTC I like the Speakers and the Screen size. But the triluminous on the Z Ultra is part of Sony's 4k technology and thats nice. I just don't like the door hatches to the ports and it may be to big for my pocket. As for Note 3 all I've heard was Snapdragon 800, 2.5 GB ram, and a new design format but I think its going to look like a bigger S4. We'll find out in Sept for the Unpack Event.

What do you use it for? Just curious. I have a Note 1, Wife has a note 2, my mom has a Note 2, and if you combined the amount of time we've all used the stylus, you'd have about 4 seconds worth of time between the three of us. It's always seemed to us as a really inconvenient way to do what you can do with your finger.

It might be true that the average user doesn't use the SPen, but its also true that most people don't spend the time it takes to learn how to use it right. It's extraordinarily efficient to use with the gestures and handwriting-to- text. Just try using S Note with your finger. You'll get much better results with the S Pen haha.
Most think of drawling when it comes to the Note...but performance, screen size, and screen quality have always been the major attraction for all users with the Note.
The Note 3 is shaping up to be a monster of a device, and I find it unlikely that the major players will release anything close to it in the near future. HTC already made their move this year, Motorola doesn't seem to make high end phones anymore, and LG just doesn't have the mind share or reputation (although they may be a bit more deserving since the latest Optimus/Nexus combo release).

Are you kidding? Plastic rectangles were hott almost 3 years ago.
Anyways, I think that 99.999% of the geeks I know wouldn't buy a Sony unless the other companies stopped making smart phones. The latest round is impressive. But I need a bit more encouragement that Sony has truly changed before I get anywhere near any of their products. The Xperia line ruined it for me.
Things are starting to look up for them, and LG though.

To be honest I wasn't familiar with the Ultra Z. That's sexy too, imo. And I couldn't care less about a snapdragon 800, or even a 600. I game on my device for maybe 30 seconds at a time -- that's what consoles and my HTPC are for -- so I really only need a processor capable of running baconreader and Chrome.
And, fair enough with the spen. I've never bothered learning what it could do, which is why I asked. Your reply almost makes me debate putting a samsung ROM back on just so I can play with it for once.

sounds like there is no need for you to upgrade other than getting an upgrade.I do most my gaming on a pc also. with faster SOC comes more capabilities. Windows xp is insanely fast on a P4 2gb of ram and a SSD. But you cant run dx11 on it. Like any upgrade .. you are going to be able to do stupid things faster. Sooner rather than later the smart phone will be your main processing device. You will just hook it up do all sorts of accessories(tv,gamepads,VR headsets etc etc) This just totally turned into a small rant. I by no means dont think you already now this. I'l move on now...Rant over.
Oh definitely not, and definitely to the rest. I don't need an upgrade due to need of faster stuff; however, marketing is a *****, and I know I'll bite the bullet sooner or later. To be honest, the only thing I'm truly wanting, when I take out the "the new stuff is flashy" factor, is better battery life. Sporting a 5200mah battery just to hang with the Wife's note 2 is ridiculous. It makes me wonder what one of those 9000mah batteries could do on her Note 2.

He he. I was a bit burnt by the time I posted that...spent all day fixing S3's. A small business client if mine likes to root his devices, and when he couldn't copy and paste due to a stock sprint software bug, he decided to wipe them. Finding instructions to do so on a random thread here. Needless to say, they wouldn't boot....because a wipe isn't what he thought it was.
And although the Ultra Z could be a bit more ergonomic...I suppose its just the sharp corners and the über-bad build quality, and update/support history of the Xperia line (x10 and pre-x10 days) that has haunted me and so many of my friends that makes me feel yucky even looking at it. I haven't gotten a chance to hold the Z Ultra, but assuming the build quality is good (it likely feels solid, judging from the dimensions and slimness alone), the only thing that dissuades me is...again, the corners, which makes the phone look like its a couple years old already. I'd really love to play around with one though.
At one point I was looking at their tablets, but again, square corners make your spankin' new device look like it's an AARP founding member, and aren't very forgiving on the hands.
I still maintain that the screen, and internals are what makes the Note a compelling device, but the Z Ultra isnt a slouch.
I do like the buttons....
I'll be sticking with my Note until I see what the Note 3 has to offer. I'll decide then between the Note 3 or S4 (is the Snapdragon 800 S4 coming to the US?), mainly because I know what I'm getting, and, I'm a fan of the over-saturated AMOLED displays.

Other device, comparisons to other devices, and upgrading phone discussion

Please use this thread to discuss devices other than and any comparisons with other devices on or about the Note III in this thread and any other off-topic issues that are not needing a new thread.
Post with respect, this is a helpful community, hope we all learn from this stuff in here.
I would like to see peoples opinion's on the note 3 compared to the LG G2. I am on the fence on the two. Im coming from the S3 so the note will be quite large. Being on Verizon we dont have the Nexus 5 option so it seems it is up to these two devices. My main hesitation on the Note is how locked down it is. We might not get customs roms on it at all. The LG G2 has Loki so we are good to go on that one. Both of the build qualities are lacking so thats a wash.

LOL, THAT was one funny movie......
I'm on the fence about mine. I got in on the Verizon unlimited data glitch and have a Note 3 coming.
I have a Note 2 and if not for the glitch wouldn't have considered upgrading. The Note 3 just didn't excite me enough to spend the money. I HATE pentile matrix screens and I felt like the move to 5.7" wasn't enough. I want something in the 5.9" to 6.1" range.
With California taxes I'm in for about $385, and I figure I could sell the Note III for $700ish. Then in a couple months I could sell my Note II for around $300 and have a nice little fund for a new device. What I really want is the HTC One Max, but who knows if Verizon will ever get it?
I don't know what to do.

The G2 is a really nice device. I hate the buttons on the back, but everything else about the physical form factor is great.
The screen is really nice, it's fast, excellent camera and battery life. I hate LG's skin, but with Nova you can cover up a lot, and now that it's Loki'd I figure it's only a matter of time before AOSP roms are available.

I have the LG spectrum and it's a great phone except for cheap sensors. Before I ever buy lg again I will install android sensors or sensor box on the store demo first. Cheap sensors have a lower range and/or operate erratically. I.e. Magnetic sensor: og Droid 0-2000, gs3 0-20000 and LG Spectrum 0-200!
What's it mean? Compass apps not reliable or accurate, Google sky map to jittery to use, auto brightness works poorly, when on call screen takes longer to turn on for the keypad, etc. At first I thought I had a lemon but LG insisted it was the applications.
Sent from LG Spectrum using XDA app
contract up !!!! What to buy next?
My contract will be up soon. I am looking to replace Verizon samsung Galaxy Nexus which I loved. I was looking at the Note 3. I like the big screen.
I have a rooted phone and want to root this new phone. The main reason I root is for the hotspot feature. Anyone have any suggestions on what phone I should look at. I am using MIUI Android Rom right now. I would be open to even staying with original OS if it had everything I wanted.
Would also like a phone with a longer lasting battery.
Has the Note 2 had any problems I should be aware of?
Any help is appreciated.
I have time so I am willing to wait if there is a good recommendation. I also don't want a bigger screen. The note 3 size seems to be perfect.

The Note 2, frankly... is incredible. I've had the verizon note 2 for a year now and i'm dying for the note 3. my note 2 is practically my best friend at this point. I know i sound like such a fanboy but i literally just smile when my friends complain about their phones, mine never has any of their stupid issues.

I challenge you to take 2 1080p screens smaller than 6" and, without prior knowledge, tell anyone which is pentile and which is any other matrix with your naked eye.

I've had the Note2 for about six months... it is easily the best phone I've ever owned. Seriously, it absolutely blows the doors off the Galaxy Nexus, in performance, build quality, screen quality, battery, phone call quality... I wouldn't have upgraded to the Note3 if it wasn't for the Verizon glitch. ...that and my wife wanting my Note2!

I agree 100 %.
The Note 2 is BY FAR the best phone I've ever owned and I have basically owned every high end phone ever made.
The N2 is the first phone I have ever owned that I was 100% totally satisfied with and haven't been impatiently waiting for the next phone to come out for an upgrade.
I will still probably buy the Note 3 at some point (I have a line I can use for an upgrade and keep my unlimited data), although I will wait and make sure it is at least rootable first as I just know I would never be totally happy with a 100% stock phone.
I'm intrigued by the HTC One Max. I don't use the s-pen or multi-window much and I do use the external speaker daily. I'm hoping for more information about the Max this week. Also, my eyes aren't what they used to be so the large screen may work. Then again the Note 3 is calling to me since I have loved my Note 2 since it's release.....we'll see

Looks like an AWESOME phone to me, but I use the s-pen quite a bit.
This obviously is a question I can only answer myself but wanted some input from some people that have bathed themselves in note 3 info... lol and some likely coming from an s3.... I'm not eligible for a new phone until march 2014... however I'm sure I could call and call and eventually get an upgrade to edge anyway (done this before... it works.. just keep calling) edge obviously a bit of a rip off.. but i could kill a few other accounts i don't really use often to make up for the cost.... and obviously if i wanted to flip a phone i could do so in 12 months or so..... with that being said..
I do love the size.. and the bigger screen is preferable to me when it comes to videos.. and other things. The speed is obviously sweet and so is the size... however..
I use my phone to play general games.. not a huge gaming on phone person.. (less you could get league of legends on there lol)... i use my phone as a basic camera..... as well to surf the web... 75% of the time i have access to a desktop in which time i could use my phone as well... i do enjoy surfing whatever sitting on the couch obviously..... I'm really on the fence... I always get super hyped over a new phone (got s3 right away and it took several calls to Verizon to get it done) in which yes, its a nice phone with nice camera options... with that being said.. its still a phone... using it to call people is its basic purpose... i've started to utilize google calandar more and more as i have a disability that the meds hinders my short term memory..so that would be one nice thing.. the s pen is sweet.. looks so awesome.. but i don't see me using it much except to jot down phone numbers or addresses on the fly (which wouldn't be often.. i'm not a people person type of guy and my job doesn't require any use of cellphones) So i'm thinking a faster processor.. better camera..the faster processor and screen size would be the main reasons..... but do i really want to go for it? do i really want to get it now and go on the verizon edge program? I just feel like I may be jumping in and after a month regretting my decision... anyone coming from an S3 have an early opinion? ( i also am in an area where voice calling isn't that great... and i would hope it would be better with the s3 (its better on my wifes older galaxy nexus)... that would be something i suppose i would have to find out after the fact.. and use the 30day policy... to go or not to go..... been thinking about it A LOT for the past week.
Be careful... if you're on Sprint or Vzw, it's only a 14 day policy

Whether or not you consider Edge to be a rip off, I prefer it to dropping $300 on the phone, plus paying my ETF for my old line. That is a total of roughly $310 +$50 for last bill + $300 + taxes for Note 3 = $660 on the lean side. With Edge I spent $102 with Priority Overnight shipping, screen protectors, first month of Edge, and taxes. Now when I sell my HTC One, I sell for around $400 after shipping and paypal fees, that leaves me with just enough to justify upgrading to Note 3. Now in 12 months, I will have paid $300 or so, and I can upgrade to the next Note 4 by then. I find this better.
Okay now on to your question: S3 is a good phone, but no Quad Core Processor, 2GB RAM is okay low compared to Note 3, but 1080p screen is a nice addition, makes watching 1080p movies so much better (based on my experience with 1080p on HTC One). No more scaling, or downsizing. Honestly if you can get the Note 3 at $299 or Edge it then do it. I recommend it.
N3 > LG2 because it has a micro sd slot and no annoying fixed nav bar taking up display space. What is the point of the bigger display if you end up having about the same space as a 5" display (if no nav bar)?
S3 and N3 seem IMO two different devices. I have medium hands and find the phablets too big for one hand operation and awkward (too big) to carry in a belt case compared to my S4. That said, if I did not have several tablets, I would choose the N3 as a true all-in-one device.
this. the htc one max has my attention but the biggest question is when will it come to verizon? remember the htc one? and if htc one max has removable sdcard i may have to buy it and have my note 3 and then decide which i like better. i love sense when it comes to htc phones but cant stand nonremovable battery and expandable storage so we will see. and i really like having an s pen if i dont use a whole lot when you need it, it comes in very handy but if the ppi is much higher and screen is better on one max i will be sure of that so it will be an interesting few weeks

Everything I've read/seen shows a removable battery and 16-64GB on-board storage + Micro SD slot. Add this to the front speakers, S-Off having been developed for the VZ One variant, and the only shortcoming is the S-pen features that you won't get vs the N3. I've asked around recently to find out if any of that gets ported to ROMs, so if that's not available I think I finally know what I'm going to buy. I need a new phone immediately if not sooner, but just want to feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

USA customers will you be switching?why?

all hype aside i have a sony xperia z3 and i will be making the switch to a V10 when it comes to T-mobile. I tried the note5 even with no removable back or expandable storage and it was not anything special. Sure it was fast, good screen, and great camera but the experience was like " eh its the same note". When i look to buy a phone i ask myself " will i use this feature?" and i found myself not using any of the notes.
The LG V10 is an upgrade from my xperia z3. 5.7 screen has been shown to be a great size for quad hd. Yes Amoled is better brighter but not sure if LG has ever done AMOLED before i know they had OLED. Removable back to swap out just in case your battery burns out buy using it while its charging lol. stock 64 gigs of storage! which means my micro slot can just be for raw files and or audio flac files. Phone has top tier camera and best video experience of 2015. IR blaster just in case you loose your remote and your to lazy to look for it lol or another ex: at the gym and your doing cardio and its time for your show just change it yourself and everyone will be like " who changed the channel?". HIFI audio is a plus yes you wont be able to play any files in 32bit but flac files of vinyl files will sound amazing. It comes with HIFI earphones which is awesome because if it didnt you would have to spend alot more money on a pair just to get the experience you should have gotten right out of the box. 4 gigs of ram is future proof and as far as the 808 chip goes when theres root on this phone you can always overclock the cpu to a fast and safe speed. I also find its great that it has gorilla glass 4 and metal sides with a softer plastic feel to protect from drops so a case is not necessary for this phone. Im sure it will get Qi charge even if you have to buy a back cover to get it which is my only flaw with this phone is that it doesnt have it standard but its not a deal breaker since its just as easy to plug it in and plug in is faster anyway. The UI i saw was improved but if you dont like it still just get a launcher ( google) and your good or wait for root. the second screen from what i saw on all the videos is handy since the notifications get displayed on the side and doesn't interrupt your screen experience. is it placed weird yes at the top is to far to move your thumb to the top so you would have to hold it with two hands and given this is a 5.7 inch screen you should know already that its a two handed device (but lg does have a one hand screen mode). The second screen really is meant for just notifications and the occasional quick app select. some people say they should have placed the second screen on the bottom and I agree but im sure they placed it on the top because that is where the cameras are and they didnt want to make a longer 2nd screen since it should be used for a quick glance. if it were at the bottom im sure the phone would have been a tad bit bigger since the cameras would stay on top and an extra screen on the bottom. The finger print scanner is in the logical spot for LG since that was the power button for the G series.
This phone just has to many thing i know i would use then things i wouldn't. Samsung honestly has a great chip and a great screen but thats really all it has.
So in short i will be getting this phone when it comes to the USA and if LG does a yearly release then ill be happy to wait a year to see if the upgrade would be worth it to a lg V10 2 lol.

Well, I am switching from my LG G3 to this phone probably end of November...
I don't typically upgrade to another phone of the same manufacturer, or at least I haven't in recent years. The LG G3 set a great first impression for me with LG devices. The hardware was great, build quality second to none. The software skin the least invasive and most closely resembles vanilla Android. The camera and software for the camera the best of any smartphone in my opinion....
I think we can expect this device to release on major US carriers by middle of November I think I've seen quoted.
This is going to be a great device I really think it captures the essence of what Android has become. A very high end phone.
The V10's second screen seemed such a gimmick to me when it was announced. After seeing pre release reviews from those LG sent devices to, wow it is a wonder we haven't seen this implemented sooner. I am very eager to get this device. I really had my heart set on the Nexus 6P, having never had the opportunity to own a Nexus device before. However due to the fact that I upgrade through my carrier I will not be able to get it... Then enters the V10... Gotta have it!!! Can't remember the last time I was as excited for a new device.... Maybe the S3, and that was a while ago. I think you will really enjoy the phone compared to your Sony.
Will be upgrading from a G Flex 2, this phone looks amazing.

I totally get where your coming from. I to am on carrier and i wanted the 5x but saw only 2 gig of ram and only one of the facing speakers work for audio. I only upgrade from carrier also and was going to wait but this phone looks beast theres just way to much stuff to pass off on getting this phone. every time i think about what this phone has in it compared to the other carrier phones i get excited. I love my sony the battery life is amazing the camera takes good photos and the HI-res sounds so clear. Software though is starting to lag.
@BatmanLBC
I hear you. Seems like we are on the same page.
I think I will be happier with this device. Even if the bootloader never gets cracked open, whereas the Nexus will almost certainly... I explained in another thread I don't need the ROM support, really root at all. I am more interested in having a device that works out of the box and offers me what I expect from a phone. Android is maturing to a point where we don't need root to do a lot of what was only available through root. The best part of my LG G3, and the V10 is that the software does have some very useful features baked in and LG has done this without ruining the integrity of the software, and without hindering performance (exceptionally clear in the V10 reviews, very very snappy) or battery life that much at all.
The screen on my G3 beats the iPhone 6S outright, which my mom has for work. She still loathes the thing and prefers her Note 2. Ha. Anyways... This phone has me very very excited. I am looking forward to upgrading now, where I was fairly content before the news of this came out. Yeah, the Nexus would be very neat, but I think Google made a mistake only offering it through the Play Store. There are plenty of people like us who upgrade through the carriers we pay... I never really needed a camera that is close to a point and shoot as I have a point and shoot that takes great photos, however after getting my G3 I can't go back to something with a subpar camera, and this puppy's camera is going to rein supreme for a long while I predict... It just looks fantastic. My hope is that I will be able to take a macro shot without a macro lens. I think we will be able to, judging by the reviews of the camera.
The V10 seems to be everything we asked for this year in a flagship, honestly... It has a removable battery, micro SD support (up to 2 TB!?), an amazing screen, camera that I believe to be second to none... I don't know why other manufacturers couldn't put something out similar to this.. Anyways! Can't wait to see some hands on reports when this is released state side.
yes, as soon as tmo announces a launch date, i will be there to purchase in store. this will be an upgrade from the note 3 and a change from the samsung line as all i have purchased have been samsung priducts. i watched samsung's presentation for the note 5 and edge 6+ and was absolutely underwhelmed by it. the thing is, if it had a removable battery and sd slot, i probably would have bought a note because why change something that wasn't obviously broken. samsung's design language tells me that they're broken and are going to stay broken for a while. they have moved in the direction of being a fashion android device with this all glass and metal thing they're doing now and that is a fragile phone that won't survive drops without a case.
i hope that root is able to happen. i don't need root, but i think it's always a good option to know it's there if i want it.
I had a G3 for a year and really enjoyed it. I switched to the Moto X Pure Edition which is pretty good but I got to try out the V10 yesterday and now I want it. I'll probably get it in a couple of months once I see if there's root available.
It feels quite nice especially with the metal frames on the sides. The battery cover is grippy with the texture they have on it. The screen felt brighter than what I remember the G3 being like. The camera will obviously destroy the MXP camera. I got to see the rose gold one which I actually may end up getting. I usually just get boring black but the color was a nice champagne color. The 120 degree camera was impressive for people who like to take self portraits. I refuse to use the other word

I'm with you. As soon as T-Mobile drops this device on their shelves I'm there. As much as I love my N6 I'm not going to miss it (nasty bug in Marshmallow right now plaguing WiFi where it has issues at times staying connected). I'm also done with the custom ROM community. The entitlement issues and some of the shoddy work is unreal. I'm done with needing root as well. I wanted a Nexus 6P but that craptastic 810 SoC, the AMOLED (burn-in on my N6 is driving me insane and it's not even a year old) and the lack of selling through carriers killed that for me. I was pondering what to do then a week later the V10 was announced. I can't wait to get my hands on it. T-Mobile and LG need to hurry the hell up so they can take my money.
Is everyone here writing poems. But I have a nexus 6 that I'll be keeping and am still getting this phone
6p is a great phone i herd someone blew a fuse when they rooted it or something. i would love to have one lol but they dont sell them on carriers and im not wealthy enough to shell out money.
I hope the price comes down like in Korea to compete with the galaxy s6 to 610. 640 would be perfect. I do believe with the software changes LG has made it makes the experience more enjoyable then the stock lg skin like on the lg g3 when it first came out. I cant wait to try this phone out.

LG G5 price and availability?

I know the release date is some day April 2016, but which price tag do you guys think is most likely for this phone?
I think I was settled on the S7 but since it's retail price will most likely be $699 I might consider the G5 if it's around $599, sure the S7 looks way better but I can hide the G5s ugliness with a case lol and I get almost the same powerhouse.
It's already up for preoder in Switzerland for 599 CHF (~600$, ~550Euro) Release date 4-6 weeks.

Yeah, I don't know about Europe but down here in the States we're supposed to get April 1st, 2016 according to Best Buy.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-cell...g5/pcmcat748301770556.c?id=pcmcat748301770556 says PRE-orders start March 18... Not sure where you saw April 1 release but that seems about right. Meanwhile my G4 bit the dust (v1.0 bootloop issue) and I'm stuck on my old S3. I don't know if I can wait that long!! I'd get another G4 if they dropped the price (they didn't have replacement stock so I got a $550 BestBuy gift card!).

I'm with Wind and I think they're notorious for being late to the party. I just want a new phone in April.
What will push me in getting the S7 is the free VR glasses (I'll probably overlook the Bluish hue that AMOLED screens have). I think it's a great deal. I hope LG does some type of a give away for early adopters (would love to have that camera attachment). Still, I'm sticking to my guns here. It'll be my 3rd LG phone (N4 and G3) and what gets me is the IPS. I could care less for Qi charging.
...and I hope we also don't have to suffer due to our failing dollar. I'm already expecting this to be $799 at the minimum.
Too late. They will loose many people that do not want to wait and they will buy other Phone

The removable battery module excites me most, can't wait to get one too.

Yeah, cause 'one extra month wait is almost like waiting a whole year'.
Hey, I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place but I just wanted to get some advice on what phone to get. I've been using a nexus 6p but I stupidly left it on the train the other day and its not been handed in by anyone and I don't know if it ever will. In the mean time I've gone back to using an old iPhone lying around the house but I can't stand it. I've decided if the nexus turns up and I've got a new phone then ill sell one. In the mean time I'm torn between the LG G5 and S7. I like the look of the s7 more than the G5 but I love love love the idea of more convenient battery options. If it wasn't for the battery I'd just go for the s7 as its out much sooner. Any advice? It would be much appreciated

Imo the G5 only looks ugly on the front, ain't pretty from the back but it's not horrible. There's no question whatsoever about the S7 being better looking but if the looks aren't that big of a deal to you I'm sure a case will make up for it. I'm sure we'll see plenty of S7s with all them ugly rugged case which sure provide plenty of protection but make the phones look damn awful. S7 has 200mAh higher capacity on its battery, but I don't believe it will be that huge of a difference on battery performance besides just like you said, you have the option of swapping in a 2nd one and I'm certain either LG or a 3rd Party will come up with a higher capacity battery. I'm still undecided on both as well, I'll probably just get the S7 if I can find it unlocked next month, if not I'll just go for the G5.
Any rumors on promotion items from LG for pre-orders? Kind of hard to say no to a free year of Netflix, Samsung VR and app package for S7.

I can't link you to source so this might not be accurate but I recently read they might throw in the LG Cam module or something like that, I'm also hoping for at least a free 'LG Friend'.

Ha! The rugged cases, as my partner always says it reminds him of his gran who bought new sofas and then put crinkly plastic sheets over them to preserve them. So every time you fidgeted no one could hear the tv!
Speaking of cases, how do you suppose it will work with the G5? If you want to change battery, you'll need to remove the case right? In which case an easy peel off case or snap off shell might be more convenient.

Lmao way to put it but yeah that's exactly it.
Yeah I think removing the case will be a must in order to remove the battery, I want a simple slimfit case with maybe some bump protection so if my phone drops it won't land on the screen and get f'd up.
Very excited for this phone. Love the modules, especially the hi-fi one. I bought my first lg device in October, V10. Been a Sammy fanboy for years, so it was an adjustment. I miss my Note 4 a bit, but there are many positives to lg. I don't think I'll get the S7, if anything I'd go back to the Note series. Being with tmobile and jump, the G5 makes the most sense, then switch to the Note 6 if I choose. Really looking forward to this phone, first time in years, probably since the Note 3. Note 4 didn't really excite me much. G5 does.

To each their own. I personally think that the G5 looks better than the S7 and even more so the S7 edge from any angle. By quite a bit in fact.
I am willing to bet that the more efficient IPS on the LG more than makes up for a measly 200 mah. We shall see when reviews come out.

On what carrier and what country? I read about a free charger and free battery but that was all I heard. Nothing about a free SD card that wouldn't be 200gb any way since they don't come in that size, it was a free 256 gb? Pretty generous deal if so.
