[Q] How powerful would the transformer prime be with Windows 7/8 on it?

Hi! If some devs in a years time are able to port windows 7 or 8 to the prime, and let's say it works amazingly. Would the GPU in the prime be strong enough to play games like half life 2 on it? I know it probably won't happen, but we never know, or is it 100% impossible?
First off, windows 7 and windows 8 desktop edition will never work on the prime because they won't run on an ARM processor. Theoretically Windows 8 for ARM could run on the Prime, but it will be very hard to do in practice because Windows 8 ARM will only boot using a secure, verified bootloader which the prime doesn't have.
Even if you could get windows running, current windows applications would not work - windows applications are compiled for x86 processors and would have to be rebuilt in order to work on an ARM platform. So the chance of AAA games like half life 2 are very small.
Finally, even if they were ported, the graphics power of the Prime is still far below what you get in a normal PC these days. GTAIII is getting towards the limit of what you can do on Tegra 3 without some serious device specific optimisation - I don't think half life would run that well at all, although the source engine is very scaleable in terms of performance so it might be somewhat doable.
Jep. Many people misunderstand the whole windows 8 situation imho. x86/64 CPUs (which are in every pc/laptop) are crap for any mobile devices. They simply need to much power.
Windows8 on ARM (WOA as they call it) will have to build everything from the ground up. When it comes out there will be no apps, no users, no devs. It has basically nothing to do with Windows 7 or Windows 8 x86/64 except the name. So atm i dont see any reason why WOA should be better than any Android tablet. Maybe if you need really extensive, features filled office apps? Coz i'm pretty sure MS office will be the strongest (and only?) selling point for WOA.
When it comes to games, i think the Tegra3 has much potential. GTA III is a bad example imho. It is a port from a console (PS2) and also runs on my 1ghz DesireHD pretty well. Games optimized for the tegra3 can look amazing (glowball demo!). One of the first examples is Shadowgun. But even that is a port with added effects. It all depends on how many studios will decide to make games for the chip - and how many devices will be sold with the chip.
But actually you can play half-life through splashtop (remote desktop app that comes preinstalled on prime), i tried it with Skyrim and it worked pretty well but had some input lag. But i hear a tegra3 optimized version of splashtop is being developed.

Huh? GTA 3 pushing limits of tegra3? Lmfao yeah right..that's funny as hell. That game no where near graphics n gsmeplay of Shadowgun THD edition. Actually no game has even come close to pushing the limits of Tegra3 yet. Boy that was funny..lol. tegra2 can push GTA 3 easily. Its already been stated that alot of major PC games would already be easy to port to prime without any loss in graphics or performance. TEGRA3 more powerful than dual core PC. With tegra3 pushing over 5Ghz total from all cores, we have yet to see anything even make tegra3 sweat yet. This is the only tegra3 device and its barely over a month old.

The reason why Windows 8 would be a good thing to have on a device like this is it should be able to do something Android likely never will: run Microsoft(tm) Office. MS has such an inroad that every other product has had to play catch up to them, and Android office suites have to play catch up to established alternatives.
If WOA isn't a lemon in a few years retrospect (maybe Windows NT 7+, Windows 8 = NT 6.2) there may be an eco-system of software that the x86 issue will be more with applications that no body is gonna care to maintain or port. I would worry more about how WOA will impact porting apps from POSIX and Linux environments and how support for WOA may impact porting applications to Windows 7 and below, POSIX, OS X, and Linux environments.
I would consider a Windows 8 transformer like product but prefer Android because of what the Linux underlayer offers me, towards getting real work done ON DEVICE. For regular consumers who are just gonna buy an iPad 4 anyway, Windows 8 on a TF501 would likely be awesomeness.
