Hi.
Do it like this, install TWRP and then the operating system of your choice. There is also the question of how you could install the ROM without TWRP.
Hardbrick with TWRP, never, I don't think so.
I have now easily shot my device 20 times and put it on again and again, definitely shot 100 devices over 10,000 times over the years and never suffered a hard brick.
You can do it, otherwise the heroes will help you here. :highfive:

Hi,
this happens because your system partition is "broken".
If you go to "Wipe" and select "Format Data" there it will delete all partitions and the system of your device.
Then you start again in the TWRP and connect the device via USB to a PC or via OTG to a stick on which you have the operating system of your choice and drag it to your device.
Then select the ZIP / OS in the TWRP under "Install" and have it installed. It also creates the new partitions that he could not find with you.
I wish you success:fingers-crossed:

Don't think format data wipes the system partition does it?
Unless Xiaomi have really changed things, data should be completely separate. Format data should wipe the internal storage only which includes cache partition.
Twrp can wipe system, but shouldn't do unless specifically chosen to do so via several steps, not a single button press.

no data format dont touch system

Yes, of course not the whole system partition, sorry.
From German into English is sometimes not that easy.?
In this case, TWRP will of course only delete the data as it stands there.
Otherwise everyone will find a step by step guide for almost every device a thousand times, thanks to you. So it should be also possible for everyone here.
Best regards and thank you two.:highfive:

I also want to go back to stable ROM

Its very simple to bypass the Anti rollback on miflash, just download the fastboot version of the ROM you want to install, unzip it and you'll have to edit this file (flash_all.bat), with for instance note++. And you remove 5 or 6 lines that does not begin by FASTBOOT. You can't miss it.
You can close and save.
Afterwards, just flash that same file that you just edited, and no more anti rollback error!
A second tip that I have when you just can't install custom firmwares on the mi 10, just flash stock firmware with miflash, reboot and flash TWRP. Transfer your custom firmware to your phone, flash it and ONLY format data afterwards! It was the only way to get a custom firmware on my mi10. It's my 5th xiaomi device and never experienced something like this...tried all TWRP available for the mi 10, but only by doing this way, I was able to succesfully install xiaomi.eu.
Good luck!

Partition "Firmware" failed to restore

As everyone already knew, MIUI 8 is not only available for China Developer ROM, it's not yet available for Global. I was on Global MIUI 7 Developer, I was very curious about MIUI 8. So, I tried to flash it through TWRP. Before I flash, I backed up all partitions on TWRP.
Fast forward 20 minutes, MIUI 8 flashed properly, but I want to go back to my original Global Developer MIUI 7. So, I tried to restore every partition through TWRP with the backup I did. Every partition restored successfully, except "Firmware". It gives error "extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255"
In recovery log, it shows that "tar_extract_file(): failed to restore SELinux context ubject_r:vfat:s0 to file" for a lot of files.
It booted up normally, but it failed to detect my SIM card. Wifi working, just no SIM. Baseband version unknown, can't enter Phone Status, SIM cards & mobile networks greyed out. Phone tells that Can't get valid Device ID (Invalid Device ID: null)
Anyone did experienced this? Any solution?
Use twrp to restore again , this time exclude the firmware partition (restore all other partition except firmware). After the restoration complete , use MiFlashTool to flash back the Miui 7 stable

Deleted Internal Storage Accidently (HELP!)

Right, so i accidentally deleted my internal storage while updating to a new custom rom (format and install). I do not have any backups, unfortunately either. My phone is rooted and had bootloader unlocked prior to this issue.

Thanks mate . Since i have TWRP already, will this do? http://en.miui.com/download-309.html
Should i download china or global?
You will not be able to recover your deleted data. End of story.
Yeah what's the problem? As you are in TWRP you can connect the phone to computer via USB. Transfer firmware, ROM and gapps and flash.
Data on internal will be gone. No possibility to recover. That's why there are warnings all over the place while wipe and format data ?

TWRP for Android 9 Pie?

My phone just got the android 9 update, I already had installed root with twrp on my device with android 8.0
So when I tried to re-root my phone I needed to reinstall the TWRP but it couldn't decrypt the data
I tried all of the posible solutions to this but nothing
I think that is the TWRP version that can't decrypt data in android 9.0
But in the web isn't any version that support the Mi 8 LIte with Android 9.0
Do I need to wait until someone update the TWRP version or what can I do?
Thanks in advance

You are upgrading now; for this you need to decrypt it for first time and probably every time that you switch from a miui to an AOSP rom. Be sure that your data partition is mounted and I guess you can´t see the files under TWRP. Try first with this zip https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389
Stock Miui re-encrypt data on first boot after factory reset, so you need to flash Universal DM-Verity
I also need TWRP for pie.
Try this recovery, It has more features than TWRP https://sourceforge.net/projects/orangefox/files/test_builds/OrangeFox-R9.0-1-platina.zip/download

Would you happen to know if opengapps aroma works with this recovery. I have tried 3 or 4 other revoveries and once options are selected and install starts recovery reboots. After that I have to hold power to force reboot because no matter what reboot option I choose it just goes back to recovery.

If you are using the wzsx150 3.2.3 twrp found under the ROM/recovery section, versions 0121 and 0212 are both supposed to be for Android 9. I haven't tried myself though, as I am still on 8.
I can confirm version 0212 does indeed decrypt data partition, making it mountable it inside TWRP. Of course phone's now running on official Android 9 MIUI 10, updated on Wednesday.
So heads up for anyone trying to use open gapps aroma installer. No recovery will install it. Tried batik, orange fox, perp, and wzsx150 twrp and all do the same. After all the selections when the actual installation starts the device reboots (installs nothing but does save setting options) back to recovery. All reboot options (system, fastboot, etc) all reboot back to recovery only holding power button will allow device to boot into system.

Any idea why is 0212 half the size of 0121, and the others for that matter (28MB vs 60MB).
I believe it's somehow compressed. If you open these files with something like 7zip you'll see the size is very close between the two.

[AIO] Guide to Unlock bootloader , Flash TWRP and a Custom rom.

Unlocking Bootloader1. Make sure you have a sim and active mobile data. Then go to about phone tap build number 7-8 times. After that go to advanced settings > developer options > turn on OEM unlocking and then check if this device is secure and click add account and device.
2. Download Mi unlock tool from here. Extract it and paste it in C:/unlock. or else your device won't be recognized for unlocking.
3. Open Mi unlock tool and then enter the Mi account which was on your device. Put your device in fastboot mode by pressing vol- and power and then connect to PC. Press unlock and if it tells you to wait you have no other option but to wait. If your mi flash tool shows connect your device even after you have connected it. Follow this guide here.
4. After you have unlocked your bootloader reboot your phone.
Flashing TWRP and Rooting via magisk
1. Download this TWRP image here. Thanks to the original developer mauronofrio.
2. Download adb and fastboot tools here and install it.
3. Now put your phone in fastboot mode and connect it with your pc. Now where you have downloaded the TWRP file rename it to TWRP.img and open a CMD window there if you don't know how just google.
4. Type the following commands
1. fastboot devices
2. fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img
3. fastboot reboot recovery.
Click to collapse
5. Your phone will boot into TWRP now. But TWRP will be overwritten by stock miui recovery to stop that you need to flash Magisk. Download this zip move it to internal storage then flash by tapping on install and swipe to flash. Reboot your device. Reboot to recovery again to check if TWRP is present.
Now your device is rooted
OR
Flash latest OrangeFox Recovery if you don't want magisk.
Flashing A rom
1. Download.
2. Flash.
3 Format Data.
Done
Feel free to ask any questions. And don't point a finger at me for messing your device.

Flashing a custom rom is optional. You don't NEED to flash a rom to get TWRP...
---------- Post added at 06:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:46 PM ----------
I've unlocked the bootloader using the unlock tool and waited for 7 days,
But i rooted the device using a different method where i patched a boot.img and flashed that to the device.
Will this method still work for me as I'm already rooted but just want TWRP so i can flash other ROMs.. The post says you have to flash magisk from the (temporary) TWRP for the TWRP to stay as the recovery..
Will the magisk on my phone and the magisk installed here collide?
I just want TWRP so i can switch to a custom rom, so any input is appreciated!!

Silly question: is it possible to install TWRP but keep the official ROM? (phone is unlocked)

Skip the flashing a rom part and you will be good to go.

You can flash twrp and then check if it persists. If not flash magisk again their is no thing as magisk colliding lol. Just make sure you flash a newer version. And if nothing works flash stock rom and then twrp.
If you have the stock boot IMG flash it and then intsall twrp and magisk.

Flashing a custom rom is optional. You don't NEED to flash a rom to get TWRP...

Haha, makes sense! Thank you for your answers
Nevermind.. i got it to work pretty easily..
I have twrp on this device and Pixel Experience ROM and it's working all fine..
But there's this one thing where when booting to recovery, it asks me to input a password for User(0) when i try to input anything it says password failed..
From reading the log, it says it's for decrypting data(8f I'm not mistaken)
Is this important? Do i need to decrypt it?
Currently the ROM works fine with no errors, so I'm not gonna bother, but would still like to know what this "decrypting" thing is..

Yes, If you use a lock screen enter that password it will be decrypted. You will have to format data if you decide to flash any other rom anyway.
flashed twrp but not able to boot into recovery.

Yes Unified means all Snapdragon 720g Devices which include Joyeuse, Curtana, Gram, Excalibur.
Hey buddy, thank you for this quick step-by-step guide. I flash ROMs since 2012 and you know what? It helped me the same. Having all stuff needed for go from stock to custom concentrated in one place (plus some useful tip like the Magisk flash at the end) it's always useful and time-saving. Thank you
2 Micro-notes about fastboot btw:
- write 'fastboot (with lowered 'f'): it may confuse some newbie
- it's 'reboot' instead of 'boot'
