[GUIDE] Getting notifications back after GMS install hack on Huawei phone
This is the method that I used to get notifications back on my P40Pro+ after a GMS hack install. I am not saying it will work for everyone and indeed if you need Google location tools on all the time, dont follow this but if your not too worried, then have a read. It has been taken from other guides out there and a little bit of my own for testing. It can be reversed and backed out of it you dont like it but as I keep getting questions on Facebook about how I done it, I thought I would share it with you too.
In this method you will need :
Huawei multitool V8 from here
Push Notification Tester from Playstore here or wherever you get your apps from
Disabling GSF
Disable Google Services Framework (GSF) using Huawei Multitool v8.
Using this tool on a Windows PC, you will find a section in the Modifications section for disabling apps on a adb connected phone to the app. Connect your phone and select show system apps and look for 'com.google.android.gsf' and select 'disable'.
See image below attached 'Multitool V8 Disabled app'
I disable (GSF) using this as it is easier for me than to use icebox or other freezer apps.
To test notifications are now working
Once disabled check that you can now receive notifications by opening Push Notification Tester installed from Playstore before starting this, will allow you to test notifications. With GSF disabled, they should now work as they should. See attached screen shots below 1-4.
Another way to test them is to just send your self an email. Just make sure you have notifications set in the setting menu first. You can try the notification tester in Outlook but does time out a lot but perseverance can prove it works but an email to your self is just as good. See screen shots 6 and 7 for where this is in the outlook help pages. Screenshot 8 shows Outlook notifications working.
The reason this works I believe is that most apps relying on GMS, their notifications work through GSF and with the GMS hack, they can't, so by disabling GSF, they can use their own default route again, through themselves.
The downside is that with GSF disabled, Google Playstore no longer works and also Google location history, there may be more but it has no real affect unless you rely on them (I dont). Maps still work with directions, Waze too but not your history or phone location via Google. Find you phone via Huawei still works obviously, so you still have other options. Of course, you can use Aurora Playstore instead or any other playstore option and if you have paid apps through Googles Playstore, then you can go to GSF in settings/apps on your phone and enable GSF (see screen shot 5 below) or via the Multi tool V8 again, download your paid app update etc and then disable it via multitool v8 after to get notifications back.
Thanks for the guide, wierd issue for me. Once my phone is conencted, and i disable the service via the Multi Tool, i still have access to the Playstore.
Going to apps -> system prcoesses, it doesnt have the disabled text next to the process. if i click on it, it says "Enable" and "Force Stop". Which initially leads me to think this has been disabled. Then once i go to Push Notification Tester, it fails on step 3 - Register for Push Notifications.
You should not have Playstore access. You dont have any work accounts installed? They have 2 gsf's etc. I would use the muti tool to check for disabled apps. It should show gsf.
May be re do?
I am able to enable and use Playstore, then disable it again to get notifications back at will, so you should too.

I think I know the issue. I have installed GSM the old way (which used to work). If you look at the start of this video he shows two devices ( both with GSM) one which fails the notification tester app, and one which passes. He then uses the icebox method to grt notifications on the phone which passes the tests

As of today, i can confirm that this method works for notifications, just make sure to restart your device after disabling / enabling.
As for the push notifications, gmail not working for me, outlook works. other apps works too, but from time to time it doesnt push properly, maybe battery optimisation or something i dont know. any idea for this issue?
anyone have any updates on this? I too have the problem - random notifications come in (usually a bunch coupled together)....Trying to figure out a real solution. Any one have any luck?

@Sathelp -> When you say this at the previous quote message, you really can tell that I can disabled and then enable GSF to receive notifications and then use Play Store ?? Right ??
Will have message issues that "Google requires an action ... etc" and I must reinstall all GMS if I enable GSF again ??
My guide was based on A10 at launch. I used the G app with a back date to get my GMS before it was blocked. Using that at the time worked fine. Disable GMS using adb command enabled notifications as they worked through HMS. I just enabled GMS to run playstore, get and update apps and then disable it for normal use.
As I have not downgraded or used googlefyer etc, I can't say how it will work with these newer methods.
The idea of the workaround to deactivate GSF for receiving push notifications emerged in April or Mai 2020. Over half a year has passed now... Maybe there is a better solution now to have GSF activated and get all push notifications? It would still be great to have a working play store and the notifications!
Any progress in that matter? Any new ideas?

We're looking for something at this thread, we can keep GSF unfrozen and get push notificacions ... but after 12 hours Play Protect errors started to appear.
There are at least two users that they haven't this issue and all it works fine ...

Maybe another possible solution could be to let the desired apps only *think* that GSF is not available. So that they try using their own default route again...
But hot could that be accomplished. Maybe via App Cloner?

The regular Google Play client is very thin on features. Specifically when it comes to automatic update one can either enable or disable it. I'm looking for a way to have my apps automatically updated unless they're on an auto-update blacklist. I basically want mark specific apps to not be auto-updated. This way I can be sure that applications that are important to me only get updated manually, typically after I get a chance to read reviews from early adopters and confirm that the new version is not broken or crippled.

I am looking for something similar.
I don't like that GP can install and update APKs remotely and without my input, however I cannot find a proper market replacement for Google Play yet.

First of all, you can choose specific apps to auto-update, and you a general setting for all apps whether to auto-update on Wifi-Only, anytime, or never. You can then go to each app and press the menu button and you'll find an "Auto update " option with a check mark.
However, if you don't like Google Play, then the best alternative is Aptoide. You can find all apps on it, you can add other stores created by users other than the official Aptoide one and find more apps on them. However, you can't be sure that the version you have is the latest version. It can be the latest but on this store only. You can open Aptoide.com and search for the app you want if you didn't find it on the Aptoide app. It will then get you the latest version on all of the Aptoide stores and you can simply scan a QR code to get the app.

Thanks so much for this tip! Here's what I now do:
1. Make sure WiFi is disabled, then enable the option to Auto Update apps over WiFi only
2. Go through all my apps and uncheck the ones that I don't want to auto update (basically everything critical that I can't afford to break).
3. Enable WiFi
4. Remember to blacklist new apps if they ever become mission critical
That's good, but you don't have to disable your WiFi. And if you check Do not Auto-update apps, it will send a notification every once in while telling you that there are apps that have updates and you can choose which ones to update. I think this way is much easier than going through every app and unchecking auto-update. And I have 2 questions: 1- What is that Blacklist you are talking about? I have no such thing. 2- What version of the Play Store do you have?

If I don't disable WiFi before enabling this feature and unchecking ("blacklisting") apps, then it'll just start downloading updates for apps which I don't want to update. Disabling WiFi (temporarily) prevent this.
I think this way is much easier than going through every app and unchecking auto-update.

"Blacklist" is a term used for marking some items where an action which occurs normally should not for selected items. For example blacklisting a sender in an email client would allow most email in but block email from this sender. Similarly, unchecking this Google Play option for specific apps would also auto-update for most apps, except those marked (in other words, those "blacklisted").

I'm using Play Store 4.6.17 on Android 4.1.2 (Galaxy Note 2).
imo, blacklisting and all the stuff you described just doesnt cut it for me. I am reluctant to give any software su access, especially stuff like google play.
I checked out Aptoide. its okay i guess, but doesnt provide up to date apps...
I wonder why most freeware devs arent providing their APKs on their own websites and open source devs add their software to f-droid or provide a repository to be added there.

I have facing issue in my Android 4.2.1 JB from alst 7 days. There are few apps which automatically getting installed without asking my permission. It hapeens when they detect i am connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. i didn't rebooted my device. Everytime i have to uninstall these apps but after few hours they get automatically installed . Device rooted 2 months back
Apps are:
Baidu Browser
UC browser
Flapy Bird
Poker
Option like USB debugging and installed from unknown source are turned off. Even scanned by device through multiple anti-virus like Avast, AVG & CM Security. Below are the apps which are currently in my device:

Is someone messing around with your Google Account?
If someone login from your google account from computer and install app from play store site, it is installed from internet.
When you say it happens when you are connected to Wi-Fi or data, so I am 99.99% sure, it is due to messing with Google Account.
ok. Let me try removing my all google account from device and some other account to see if this happen again.

Hi there,
I removed all my google account from mobile and added new gmail account. But issue is still same.
Maybe you could try to disable "Auto-update apps" in google play.
Even i have the same problem. I even removed the auto-update but still its happening.
Please help ?

"Auto-update apps" is disabled in google play. But same this is keep happening. Did hard reset of my phone but same issue.
i have that same problem with my tablet from ebay running 4.2.2 app DU Battery Saver & Widgets is installed without my permission and i don't even have google account on this device, but tablet is connected on wifi 24/7 and all apps are stock i have original firmware and i try to reflash device but this is happening again
Very odd... Have you tried disabling the Install from Unknown Sources option?

I bought on e-bay a Chinese 10.1" M10 type with MTK8127 chipset and Android 4.4.2 Kernel: 4.3.67 tablet.
It works great except that it is every day i get a new surprise "great" application that are installed on their own, do not ask for anything and ready to license to be posted.
The tablet was rooted with VRoot_1.7.3.4863_english_cid1005_7337ba1e_89.exe and with MtkDroidTools_v253 do full backups.

Note that this is after factory reset the same applications in the same order almost exactly in same time per day.

The applications that I use on that device are the same that i use on other (Samsung) device so it is sure that there is no problem with them but i think the system itself compromised.
I tried Avast, Avira, eset, AirPush Block, Network connections, OS Monitor, Addons Detector, Trust - Event Logger but not found anything and I could not figure out what was happening.
I put CatLog - Logcat Reader to get it know whats happening but could not really understand what was happening.
Please help to figure it out based on the log to see what happens and how it happens and how can I get rid of this.

I just. This morning also am getting random apps installed. Dominos pizza, panda pop and cookie jam the newest app i have installed is brave frontier can it be malware or something else.

It could be if you got it from anywhere but the official play store. Never install apps not from a trusted source.

I got the same apps today - Domino's PandaPop, and Cookie Jam plus Drippler. I did not install Brave Frontier, so that isn't the source.
The only things done recently for me are:
- Connected up to my work Office 365 service, which requires admin access (for wipe, etc)
- Updated su binaries a few days ago - at prompt from SuperSU

I just got DU Battery Saver installed on my Onix tablet. You read stuff on the internet about cheap Chinese tablets coming loaded with spyware and other sorts of stuff and I wonder whether apps can be freely installed via some hidden app on the device.

How prevent running works?
After go deep in the android source, i find it uses flag when sending broadcast, so I hijack the IntentFilter's match.
And for other action, like force stop, launch activity, exit activity, I hijack them too.
So if any package is force stopped, it won't accept any intent filter...
However, i let input method, app widget, and laucher go.
- app widget, otherwise reboot is needed to show a widget in the widget chooser.
- configuration changed, otherwise cannot change lanugage
- account, otherwise sync and account won;t work
When the activity is launched, it can receive broadcast again..
When the activity exits by back key, it won't receive intent again, this function is added to android's feature.
So if you want to keep it running, please use home key instead.
And all the feature works for system package too, but the system package must have launcher.
Otherwise, if you still force stop it, it will cause FC (I suggest you use pm disable to do so).

For GB user, there is no greenify, and there is no change to back-port.

Was looking for Greenify for GB from long...
Can somebody review this app? Is there any shortfall of this app in comparison with Greenify (as user, don't understand technicality )
I tried this yesterday on google play services app and it worked fine. It shouldn't receive any broadcast, and never running, so you coun't recive messages.
Can you add a UI when you can choose apps to hibernate (like Greenify) and force stop them one by one?

No, nothing is wrong.
When you use back key to exit the application, the application won't receive any broadcast, however, the application will be cached, so the next time you open it, it will be opened very quickly. But before you open it again, it won't receive any broadcast.
However, if you want to the process be stopped, you can force stop it.

I observed this behaviour only with play services. For other apps, its working fine. So basically there's no much diffrnce between freezing and this except for application caching right? If we stop mms, do we still receive sms? A UI would be useful to look which apps are stopped and which are not. Great work man :good: BTW xposed for gb isn't updated yet. Any reason?

I don't know what's freeze, it doesn't seem to be a android's function.
As i said in the description, it doesn't force stop any application, but prevent sending broadcast to force stopped application.
For caching, it's a feature added to android's design.
For android's native design, when you start the application, it will be removed from the stop list until you force stop again.
But for me, i think its too complex to stop it, so i catch the finish, and if it's exited by finish, it will be added to the stop list.

So if you stop the mms, i don't know whether you will receive or not.
The mms should be the core services of the android, i don't think you can force stop the services...
And i didn't forbidden the open the activity from the service, otherwise, it will cause FC of the application.
As i'm very busy, and an UI will take me some time. So there is no ui currently.
However, for the list, you can open the /data/data/me.piebridge.forcestopgb/conf/forcestop.list
For the xposed and other back-ported's module, it's not updated just because i'm too busy, and sometime too lazy .

when i prevent Viber from running, when i start Viber, it starts but when you tao on some conversation it gives me force close. is this know bug?
Can we remove this setting simply by editing in config list (changing to false)?
Edit: I changed gms app to false and then opened the app to check which worked fine (i can see many running process in ram) and then i checked the list and it showed only that app in list. Is it alright?

true or false has special meaning.
true indicates this app is in the stopped list, and no broadcast would be send to the application.
false indicates this app has been marked in the stopped list, and when use back-key to exit, it would be in the stopped list.
I will write a simple ui, after the back-porting of xposed installer (completed), xprivacy (completed), and app settings (in to do).

As I have no ics+ devices, so i cannot say much things.
And if you want to try, you can wait for some days, I would write a simple configuation ui this weekend.
In short, if greenify works on your device, then just use greenify. But if you find greenify doesn't work at all, then try this one.
From design, greenify depends on http://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-3.1.html#launchcontrols introduces in android 3.1, this app hacks some api to emulate the launch controls. This works on gingerbread devices, and the devices that launch controls don't work at all.
Every time I disable "Find My Device" under device administrators, it re-enables itself whenever I reboot my phone. In the phone settings, I turned off location and went to Google->security->Find My Device and toggled off. Then I went to my Google account on my PC to remove the device. Nope! Makes no difference. WTH?! Come on, Google! you creep up on my phone. I have to disable it because when it's enabled, it causes issues with MacroDroid app. My phone is rooted. I'm on Marshmallow 6.0.1 Any solutions? Google makes me wanna rip out my hair. Ugh, this is a nightmare. Same issue on another phone

If it's re-enabling itself on reboot, it doesn't sound like you're disabling it properly. Try freezing it using Root Uninstaller to freeze the app.

Firstly, my device and running system are in my post, as you meant me too. I'm quite sure it's not device related... This "issue" appears as soon as i update to the new beta of gplayservices and disappears as soon as I downgrade!
One after another in by friendships have it now, too. So it's rolling out with stable, because none of them is beta tester or it comes over another backdoors...

Right now I'm using LG Volt. Another one is ZTE Warp 7. It's the feature, not the app. If It were the app, I would uninstall it. I tried disabling the feature under Google Play services via the app called "Disable Application [ROOT]" by BIZKAI Apps but it asked me to pay for it pfftt

The settings might not be saved to your Google account properly , try connecting your device to a stable internet connection and disabling it .. might work, usually same happens with my device when enabling adb(debug security settings) if internet connectivity is poor.

Fyi...it seems the GmsIntentOperationService service in GooglePlayServices is what is causing it to re-enable at boot. If you are rooted and disable this service it stops re-enabling at boot. Google should fix this....not cool Google.

I've tested that Magisk module on a Blu Life One X3 phone, rooted with TWRP as bootloader and Magisk as root. It does indeed permanently disable 'Find My Device' (and removes it from the Device Administrators list), but on this particular phone, it messes up the WiFi connection... it flips between 'Connected' and 'Connected, No Internet', and doesn't transit any data.
I uninstalled the 'Universal GMS Doze' Magisk module, and WiFi functionality returned to normal, but 'Find My Device' was re-enabled. I did this three times, just to be sure, same each time.
For now, to save battery, I'm using 'Enable Doze for GMS Magisk Module' Magisk module, but it doesn't disable 'Find My Device' like 'Universal GMS Doze' does.
I'm now looking at using Disable Application [ROOT] (package:/data/app/com.iamaner.oneclickfreeze-1/base.apk=com.iamaner.oneclickfreeze) to stop the Google Play Services from setting a Device Administrator... you should check out that program, it's awesome. It's a paid program, but it's well worth the coinage.

I'm not sure you can do it, non-root. I'm trying to figure out the ADB command to disable 'Find My Device' permanently... it's got to be related to what I posted above. Still experimenting.

That doesn't work for me, as I've disabled Google location features in build.prop and disabled Captive Portal Login connectivity checking (which checks with a Google server to switch your WiFi icon to 'Connected' from 'Connected, No Internet'), as I explicate here:

So Google can only see if the phone is online or not. It can't locate it, nor can it communicate with 'Find My Device'.
But good news! If you install AFWall+ and disable:
[10014] Google Play Services, Google Services Framework, Google Account Manager
[10023] Google Play Store
for both Data and Wifi in the firewall, Google can't even tell when your phone is online.
What I did was to set up three profiles in AFWall+, one with the basic connectivity enabled and Google enabled, one with basic connectivity only, and one lockdown profile (nothing enabled). Set up AFWall+ so it shows a notification, press that notification to take you to the AFWall+ window. Just below the green header, you'll see a drop-down box where you can quickly switch the profile. Or set up the widget to do the same thing.
Heh, leave it to Google to make permanently disabling "Find My Device" as unintuitive as possible.
Go to Settings > Google > Security > Find My Device > Turn it off
If you simply go to Settings > Security > Device Administrators and disable Find My Device, it'll re-enable itself upon reboot.

I can't find any of them to disable.
i had the same problem, every reboot option returned on. i fixed with this command from terminal emulator. i use TERMUX APP.
type "su" then enter and allow root
type "pm disable com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.mdm.receivers.MdmDeviceAdminReceiver" then enter.
this makes DISAPPEAR the total row of the option find my device. and disable 4ever. tested now on lenovo p2, havoc 2.9 pie

I did this, worked for 3 days then my phone rebooted by itself (which has never happened before). When it powered back on, Find My Device came right back in an enabled state. I have a HTC 10 and almost positive this is what causes the horrific battery life. Once its disabled, my battery history is fairly flat. Every 3 days or so it will re-enable itself and its fairly obvious when it happens -- my battery starts draining much faster. There has to be another way to block this completely, I've already disabled it in my Google account, on the phone, and unchecked it in device admins but again, 3 days later its enabled again like a bad virus.
Does anyone know of any way to block/stop apps such as Facebook from viewing my other installed apps?
With the new Facebook update they've now got tracking of your off Facebook activity. Its in your settings and it's called, Off Facebook Activity.
Don't believe me? Check, it's deffinatelly there now in latest update.
I know can turn it off but them being able to see my other apps and to see what I do on there just annoys me.
Is there any way that I can prevent them from seeing my apps.
Also some things I've googled have ended up getting my email address as got emails about what I searched.
I have ap-ops which don't have option to block it, I have xposed which I don't like to use as it stops other apps from functioning but I might start using it again if it stops this. Also I have magisk installed and rooted via this.

I've uninstalled it for now, didn't need titanium though.
Can use Facebook via a browser instead.

I did disable all Facebook permissions but still had my off of Facebook apps information. Who knows if other apps are doing the same thing, I block all unneeded permissions in all my apps and keep them frozen until I need to use them. Thanks for your reply.
