Not sure if this thread makes sense. The categories are the same as the Nord forum ones.

I will soon be posting the basics of correctly flashing and plus, this saves you from the occasional ranting threads.
I will keep on adding more content as and when I get time

So I get 5 people on xda (including me) have gotten their nord?
I'm still thinking if I'll switch from my op7 (non-T) to the Nord or if some family member will get it... 90hz is nice by the way but does not make the phone really different from the 7 for me.
Since my 7 is full-stock I'm thinking of keeping the nord just for playing, hacking, gaming....
To the other owners:
Do you like your phone so far?
Is it an improvement to your prior phone?
Is it your first phone?

I had the Oneplus 5 prior to the Nord, so it's definitely an upgrade. Until now I like the phone, haven't tried everything yet. But the 90Hz display is great. I'm a bit disappointed that there is no wifi 6. In addition to that, 5G doesn't work with dual sim yet, that needs to be fixed asap.

Well, this is my first good phone
I am going to be switching from a phone with 2gigs of ram and one of the first 4g compatible mediatek SoC to the nord
I think it will be a huge improvement for me at least.
Plus, OnePlus has a great developer community (I intend to help porting a few things too)
That is a huge plus for me, I like tinkering with my hardware.

Got the Nord and OP7pro as well. Still, the OP7 feels a bit snappier. But I like the size of the Nord. Easier to handle and a lot lighter. Cameras have been more or less the same as the OP7pro up untill now from what I could see. The front facing cameras are actually really good. Strange that we can't record 4k 60fps on the main sensor.
REALLY waiting for UAG or Spigen to release some good cases. Got a bit scared after seeing the video from Jerryrigeverything to be honest.
I guess when support and development on XDA picks up, we could tweak some software and hardware to make it a more complete phone. Like dual speaker mods, better camera processing and some more optimizations.
But all in all, it's been a great experience so far. And I've changed to the Nord as my daily driver. (Still have my OP7pro on me at all times).

funny thing, i'm using a OP7T PRO and i'm thinking of buying the Nord instead.
The OP7T PRO is awesome but it's big and heavy, i've always used big screen phones but i'm getting to the point where i don't want them anymore.
Nord's camera is good, i've seen comparisons with OP7T and it's almost the same so that's ok with me.
It's lighter, a bit smaller, not the best but still a good processor which should be good for battery compared to PRO.
as a make quite some familie selfies i really like the Nord's wide angle front cam, to bad it make a big punch hole but compromises needs to be made.
How does the single speakers hold up to the double stereo speakers on your 7 PRO?

Actually think that the speaker on the Nord sounds a bit better. Sound is a bit more clear and less muffled. That is, until you listen in landscape and really hear how much better a stereo setup is.

I agree, nothing beats a dual stereo setup.
But the difference can be minimal if the single speaker is of good quality.
I don't remember which device but yesterday i saw a review of the Nord compared to a device with dual stereo and the Nord surprisingly sounded better.

And things can be better when we get a stereo mod

I think the single speaker is good enough then
I can always add external speakers

I'm loving the phone so far, it's a big upgrade from my huawei p10 (lost the bootlader unlock code for that too so I'm glad I can finally root again). Better camera, display, it's faster etc. Big success imo.

I switched from OP 7T to Nord - much happier with the size - don't miss the performance as I don't game.
Speaker sound quality is not as good I would say.
Also, after a week I do get the feeling the battery is not lasting as long as the 7T - maybe I still using the Nord more than usual - but I don't think so...
Only problem is that the Nord got into a boot loop after a week and I had to hard reset to get it back and spend hours re-installng etc.

Who Is Looking At 8 Pro?

From what little I've found I haven't seen anything that would make me jump from my 7t pro McLaren. I honestly can't tell the difference between 60 and 90 hz so I don't think 120 hz is a big draw. What else is there besides the 64 mp shooter?
I tried posting in the McLaren forum but keep getting an error when trying to open the forum.

I have no interest. OnePlus did great in the beginning when they supported development efforts like we have here at xda. Now we can root but it breaks updating and we can't get r/w to the system partition. Their prices are also shooting up pretty quickly.
Hell no going teamPixel

Well, there's the OnePlus exclusive hardware-accelerated motion interpolation for videos so that videos can be upscaled to 120fps, making videos we watch on the internet (which are mostly in 30fps format since most cameras shoot at 30fps) smoother. This will be a awesome for someone like me, who found watching low framerate contents like youtube videos over a long period causes nausea. Why am I writing this when I know you won't tell the difference anyway (facepalm

So will I as I am certain T-Mobile will be carrying it. I have tried twice to upgrade or rather go back to the S10 but both phones were defective, kept saying refreshing SIM data at the bottom of the screen a few times every minute and would lose network connection, so I will stay with my OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren until the OnePlus 8 Pro comes along.
I wanted to go with one of the S20 phones but the prices for them are ridiculous and the down payment is also stupid high.

I've seen some renders of it and it is fugly.
I read an article while I was in the hospital after my knee replacement surgery about Google was trying to make the ugliest phone ever with the Pixel 5 and 5XL and I have to agree. I thought the iPhone 14 series was bad but the upcoming Pixel outdoes them hands down.

The technical issues here are true of all Android 10 phones, because of changes from Google. This isn't Oneplus's fault and all other manufacturers will have the same issues. The grass isn't greener.
Also it is not technically true that you can't get R/W to /system. What is true is that the build process for Android 10 leaves no free space in the /system partition and uses a block-deduping scheme to reduce size, so in order to get useful R/W access the community needs to build tools to expand the partition sizes. This is all doable and probably will get integrated into custom recoveries, but it's taking time.
In the meantime, systemless Magisk and overlay FSs has been the way to go for a long time, it's not quite as convenient as just R/W remounting, but it's more flexible, plays nice with OTAs, and works great today for almost all practical needs to modify /system

That sums up my thoughts exactly!
I had Oneplus 3t that I used for 4 years before it got stolen. I relied on custom ROMs for the smoothness and that was the one main factor considering Oneplus phones. For the recent "flagship killer" devices, I don't see any ROM supports and so few ROM threads in XDA(maybe I am wrong here). I am using a Pixel 3 and find it difficult to consider a Oneplus device because of ROM support. Please correct me here if you guys think that the Custom ROM support for 7T/Pro is as great as it was for 2/3/3t.....6t.

It's not great yet. But I think this will change with time. It's just taking longer now, but I don't think it's a permanent situation.
With Android 10 and no /system access, no thanks (and for the #gishgallop, I don't want any Android 10 phone). This is bad enough.

Follow this guide to be able to install OTA updates after unlocking bootloader/rooting!
I'd only consider the 8 Pro if the Tmo offering is good.
* It can be converted to international and participate in open betas
* It's available on JOD at a sane price and a down-payment under $100
The all-screen sexiness and colors of the McLaren 5G is just too damn good to trade in right now.

.
Why only TMobile?
If the unlocked generic 8 Pro has the same important LTE and 5G frequencies as the TMo version, wouldn't it be easier to work with it including getting updates after being rooted ?
If you check the TMO web site you'll see that are saying they will NOT be getting the 8 Pro. They will get the 8, just not the pro. From what I have read, no US carrier is getting the Pro. As of now, you'll only be able to get the Pro from 1+

Yeah - I have one.

Question Honestly? The Nord 2 is fantastic.

So I recently picked up the Nord 2 after swearing off of OnePlus phones following my 8T not receiving notifications properly (returned it) and the Oppo merger was scaring me off a little but I decided to take a risk and try the Nord 2 after MUCH deliberating between it and the POCO F3. And I can happily say I am very happy.
Coming from the S20 FE I haven't noticed any real difference in performance aside from the 90hz screen which I'm now used to. The phone is snappy, the ColorOS integration is actually really well done and I'm happy with it, way more than I would have been with MIUI. I'm really interested to how Android 12 is going to look on this thing and I'm happy to get at least to Android 13 before this thing isn't supported anymore.
Overall? For £400 I'm very happy. I'm happy to answer any queries people have about the device.
I guess you aren't rooted?

Never had a Nord (yet) but I have had three OnePlus phones - 6, 7-Pro, 8T and they all have functioned quite well for me. I know many people say they're never going to buy a OnePlus phone again for various reasons, and reading these statements can have an effect on us readers causing us to reevaluate our decisions. While I hope that using a Chinese phone will not be detrimental to my data, I have also owned a Huawei phone that I gave to my sister - Mate 10 - and she is still using it without any issues. I also had a ZTE Axon 7 which I truly loved and wish I could find an equivalent even now. So I guess what I'm saying is that OnePlus does make good phones...in my opinion...and I am actively watching to see what the Nord N20 brings to the table here in the US! If it checks off enough boxes then I just may buy my 4th OnePlus phone!
Don't let others negative opinions sway your decision. Research the facts and then you will hopefully get a good phone that meets your needs.
I've had a OP3T, a 5 (which is up to day still GF's daily driver), a 7 pro (which I am currency de-googling with E/OS) and now the Nord 2.
I love OP in general and the Nord 2 in particular as well (not too big, not top heavy as the 7 pro, fast as hell, nice vibrations, not too heavy, all good).
BBut for me rooting is the most important. And hell what a disaster this particular phone is to root. After a year still TWRP able to make Nandroids and almost no development going in.
That last thing wonders me most. Even the OP1 still gets new roms coming out. But the Nord 2.... A few spin offs that's it. And that sucks.

Question Out of the loop: Considering Oneplus Nord 2 for my wife, thoughts?

So I am considering getting a Oneplus Nord 2 which I figured just came out this month, right?
I myself have a 7T 128Gb which I really love. Only thing is its head heavyness due to the camera.
My wife just wants a better cam than her Huawei P90 lite and more storage space. Other than that I think she is not such a nerd like me
Anyways: I have been shocked about the fact that there are som many new Oneplus phones out there these days! And reading through all the specs man, I gotta tell you it kills me. It just doesn't tell my anything.
So my question would be: Is the Nord 2 a great buy for 399 € if my wife needs a very nice cam and lots of space? She would also need a safe case, she drops her phones A LOT!
I read some beef here about Oneplus quality and all...
Thanks for your thoughts!
One plus nord 2 came out in july last year...
And if you consider buying it: just... just don't. It's full of bugs and stock camera sucks big time. You might get better results with gcam but still... unacceptable.
Performance and battery life is good though...

Unless you really consider the price aspect, then yes, the Nord 2 can be a nice choice, but you might have to work on it a little to install a custom ROM and fine tune a few things up before being able to get the best of it.
One the other hand, I might suggest getting a OnePlus 9 Pro (its price is decreasing quite often since the OnePlus 10 Pro release) if you want a really nice camera setup and overall specs.
And if you want to split the pear in half, maybe considering a OnePlus Nord 2T 5G in its 12Go RAM/256Go ROM configuration could be the best affordable choice (529€, else, the base storage/RAM capacity is at 429€, but you'll get a better camera setup than the Nord 2).

Question Would you recommend this phone and what version 8/16GB

So I'm looking for a new phone, with a bit more power.
Would you recommend this phone, I saw a couple of posts about sw issues, how serious is it?
I'm trying to decide between this one and the oneplus 10t, which is on sale right now.

Would you recommend this phone, I saw a couple of posts about sw issues, how serious is it?
I'm trying to decide between this one and the oneplus 10t, which is on sale right now.

Well, I haven't had software problems.
I come from a OnePlus9 pro and there I had more software problems. It would once crash and the screen would go black and couldn't be unlocked. I felt worse with the OP than I did with the Zenfone9.
Asus has updated my phone once every month. That in OnePlus did not happen to me.
In short, it depends on the personal experience of each one.
And if you can, go for the 16gb, but you will only have it black... I love red model! Snif...
I write to you from a black Zenfone9 16gb with the official beta of Android 13.
I would go for thisone over the 10T. OnePlus Software is just not good anymore. This fone is what OnePlus was onces.

Pretty much, the OP9 was the last OnePlus before they got fully merged into oppo. Check the OnePlus 10P/T forums here to see all the problems.
I came to this phone from OP 7T Pro, there are few things I don't like (the camera is not as great as I hoped and the bezels around the display are pretty huge, especially after coming from 7T Pro), but overall it is a great phone. The FP reader is the best I ever tried, it unlocks on instant, it cannot be any quicker, I love the small footprint, this is the main reason I went for this phone. I hate those huge 6.7"+ devices, I have short thumb. And all the small phones are usually low or mid tier, this one is a proper high tier phone, very smooth and fast.
The battery is also awesome, almost 2x better than my OP 7T Pro, which wasn't too bad either. And I'm using 120Hz and AoD, I'm getting 6+ SOT easily. With 7T Pro I was getting 3-4 hours SOT
SW wise it is great, as someone wrote before me, it is what OnePlus used to be. Clean Android experience with few extras. I didn't have any major bugs, just small details, but ASUS is nicely active on their support forum, we are reporting bugs and they are working on them.
I'm currently on the A13 beta and I haven't noticed any major issues so far, smooth experience, good for daily driver.
AND FINALLY the home gesture bug is GONE in A13! Now my Niagara Launcher experience is smooth.
But you cannot judge the phone based on the support forums, all you can find there are issues, right? Nobody is posting on forum about good experiences, people usually post only if they encounter any issue. And there are issues with every phone

Yeah I know, originally I planned to include something like "...of course people in support forums will always point out the issues..."
Thanks at all for the replies guess I'm going with this one!
Is this phone a good upgrade to the Pixel 5 ?
I've been satisfied with the pixel 5 in general - it feels great to hold, has good bezels, good camera and it's light.
Performance has been better than decent - for the apps and things I use it at least.
But still would like to have a snappier performance with the better chipset that the Zenfone 9 offers.
The only drawbacks I'm seeing with the new Asus Z 9 are the slightly thick bezels, it's weight, camera perf., and ROM development
As far as the camera goes - are the GCams giving any considerable improvements in the Z 9 ? The factory camera app is giving decent results but I think I like my Pixel 5 pics better from the comparisons that I'm seeing.
Also - what do you think ROM development would look like for this phone ? The love these phones get in the NA market is non-existent pretty much. And maybe Lineage will drop a ROM - but would like to see some ROMs dev. in the future.
I'm loving it so far. While I'm not enthused about the two years of updates instead of more, I am learning about ROM development and will post here when I can.

I have a Pixel 5, too, though currently as a backup. Performance is okay on that one, but I can't believe how much better 120 Hz on the ZP9 feels than the 90 Hz on P5. Battery life is also much better, too: P5 is 10-11%/hr screen on rate, ~1% screen off rate; ZP9 is ~8% screen on rate, ~0.8% screen off rate. (Accubattery)
If price isn't an obstacle, I'd recommend it.
I wouldn't change this phone for anything. I upgraded from Zenfone 8, as the one thing that was missing was a physical fingerprint reader (rather than the under-screen one).
The software experience also feels much smoother (stock) than what it was on Zenfone 8 (which I later rooted and flashed wtih LineageOS). I am content keeping this one stock.
i currently have the samsung galaxy s20 5g and debating on i bought the zenfone 9 and try to decide whether to stick with it the Z9 or S20
I have to say this is a great compact phone. Almost as good as the old sony xperia xz1 compact.
The battery life on this phone is awesome, Im running with 4.5 hours screen time so far and 2 days stand by and I still have about 41% battery life.
performance is great, the camera is not bad, however those huge lenses do stick out like a sore thumb.
but overall if you can get this phone on special price, its well worth it.

Sorry wrong thread

Question Is it worth buying OnePlus 11R?

I'm new to OnePlus and the 11R looks promising with those specs and design. I want to know if it is good with all the user experience and software wise.
No one replied but I had a discussion with my friend who is a tech and it seems the phone is good for that price range so I bought the phone!
Yes, OnePlus 11R is great for the price. If you're chasing synthetic numbers (Geekbench scores/Antutu scores, get iQOO phones instead). The real world performance of the phone is phenomenal. No issues at all. Even gaming (around an hour of Genshin, stable 58-60 fps on highest settings). The phone does heat up a fair bit though, but no stutters that I noticed.
Camera is 8/10. Screen is 9/10. Battery 8.5/10. Sound 8.5/10. No lags/stutters at all. Software is like 7/10. You might run into an age-old issue with oneplus devices with 5GHz networks that is fixed when you disable accidental touch prevention.

OnePlus has made a mess of Oxygen OS. I hope they fix it. I'm leaning towards iQOO and Vivo phones currently.
Samsung flagship will remain my primary device, atleast for the foreseeable future.

Yeah but it is good now, iQOO is also good I like their phone models but I prefer OnePlus. Samsung flagships are too expensive for me!

OnePlus makes good phones (hardware), and so do pretty much every other brand. What made OnePlus different and very special was their software, Oxygen OS. The company now has a bad team working for them ever since Carl Pei left, and the team has successfully removed the 'oxygen' from their OS, and suffocating the user experience as a result of it.
I have the OnePlus 8T and some of the things are super annoying about OOS 12 & 13. Enough to make me look for another phone. I bought the iQOO Neo 6 and the software experience is much better (although it has its own share of bugs too, but they are less annoying though). The hardware is just as capable, and cameras are good too for the price.
I hope OnePlus fixes the (super) annoying things about OOS 12 & 13.
I just got 1+ Ace 2(11R) which running ColorOS 13 (China ver). The software works pretty well. There are only a few bloatware and I got rid of it easily. The only thing annoys me is it doesn't have google services inside the OS. Although I can install Play Store and GG apps quite easily, it's still lack of basic GG syncronization for example: wifi settings, autofill id an password for apps,... Otherwise, build quality, camera, chipset, battery life,...are very good p/p. Looking forward for a stable Oxygen OS 13 for it!
