Headset (AKG USB-C mic in-line headset) is missing in the box - Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G Questions & Answers

I just received mine yesterday, August 10, 2010, ordered on August 6, Fedex took 4 days to deliver it on Expedited shipping (2-days). It's a great phone, love it. Feels good in hand, a little slippery, I fitted an araree z flip (2019) case and it fit perfectly. Amazing screen. Still in honeymoon phase. The only problem is I can't find a headset in the box. It's definitely missing. Got on a chat with a Samsung rep but he couldn't help, gave me a link which led me back to the original support page I had started from. Samsung is not known for providing excellent customer service but this is ridiculous. I paid $1400 for the phone and they gipped me.
Has anyone else have this issue?
Resolved: I opened a chat with Samsung Premier Service rep, according to him/her, only the original Z Flip gets the headset in the box. The more expensive and recent Z Flip 5G does NOT come with a headset! WTF??? Very disappointed. I remember seeing a headset in the image online, but I cannot be 100% sure. I think the rep may be mistaken or he's trying to get rid of my call by telling a lie. Samsung's much worse in the customer service department than Apple. They need to upgrade their service if they want to keep loyal customers like me. I won't be buying Samsung phones after this one.
EDIT: I also realized that the 5G version I received didn't come with a case; the original Z Flip box contained a 2-piece clear plastic case as well as an AKG-branded USB-C headset. This really sux. Samsung apparently made the decision to skip both items in North American versions of their new flagship phones.

@strider888
The accessories that come with the phone usually varies, depending on which market you're in.
I know that in the US, we usually get the short end of the stick & this phone is no different. T-Mobile's unboxing video confirms this, identical to your experience.
Yeah, I agree, they should include a set of buds & a case, as they did with the previous model.
I've seen articles mentioning that you can contact Samsung & they'll send you a pair of buds upon request. Not sure exactly what's entailed, probably nothing more than giving your Samsung account information/proof of ownership & a shipping address.
Here's an article from SamMobile on the subject, it's regarding the same on the Note 20, but, I imagine it'd apply to the Z-Flip 5G as well :

It says on the Samsung website the LTE version comes with the case and headset. It's clearly marked that that stuff is not included with the 5G.

when I was on the Samsung website in August 2020, there was NO mention of it (that they won't include earphones or the case), THEY SHOWED A PICTURE OF WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE BOX AND IT CLEARLY SHOWED A PAIR OF AKG EARPHONES AND A CASE.
The fact that YOU CAN NOW see the warning does NOT mean it was there in August 2020 when Samsung was heavily promoting the Flip Z 5G.
@TechOut, what are you trying to say? that I'm an idiot who didn't read the warning? that you are so great that you never miss anything and you never get scammed by big corporation in your whole life? Get the f*ck out. I hate people who add salt to other people's wounds.

Maybe you are not an idiot (discutable) , but definitely acting like one.

Vario II magnetic case & T-Mobile

I been having loads of problems with the original Vario II case. The strong magnets have been changing the screen to landscape mode, freezing and even crashing the windows...
So a while ago I called T-Mobile customer service and told the lady how disappointed I was, theres clearly a design fault with the case. She said theres nothing she can do (bit rude) but then I insisted I can talk with her supervisor.
She wasnt very happy but said her supervisor would call me back within few minutes. About a half an hour later, that same lady (not her boss) called me back saying they will send me a new aluminium case! However... after couple days of nothing in mail from T-mobile, I called them back. A guy tells me they run out of stock of that case, so what I could do is buy one case anywhere and they would reimburse the costs in my next bill (faxing the receit of course).
I called HTC manufacturer customer service (very helpful people!) to ask where to get a good case and they pointed me to mobilefun.co.uk. I ordered a cool leather one... and T-mobile kept their promise, I was refunded for the costs!!!
change the case
the point of my post was... if you're on T-Mobile uk its worth call the customer service and ask for a new case / pay costs of a new. they seem to be aware now of the problem the magnets cause.
I have to say i've not noticed this issue with my vario II, is this specific to a batch?

I saw somewhere that the Hermes platform supposedly uses something called a Reed Switch which detects whether or not the keyboard has been slid out.
The Reed Switch is activated by a small magnet in the case of the phone itself which passes over it and that's why the magnets in the bundled case make the screen switch.

Thanks for the info, T-Mobile have give me £30 credit to get a case.
Have you a link to the HTC case you mentioned.

Does the Alpha bend?

Yes, yes it does.
Hopefully Samsung will replace it for me, sending it in this week.
Samsung Alpha bends after being kept in front pocket.
I am facing the exact issue as SBartacusX. I returned the phone to Orange Romania for inspection and I also exchanged messages via Facebook with Samsung Romania.
Samsung Romania thanks me for pointing out this problem and assures me they will take action so that this situation would never happen.
A pic with my phone (not the best one, but the issue is visible)

So Samsung Romania decided to send the phone for further investigation in Korea. They also agreed to replace my unit with either a new one or with another Samsung model (pay the difference if it's more expensive) - the dealer also agreed to that.
I decided to go with Samsung S5 4G+, hopefully a problem free unit.
That really sucks, as I was really enjoying the whole metal frame concept. I also decided to resist the temptation of going for an even larger screen phone (Note 4).
That being said, I wish you all the best and if your Samsung Alpha turns into a boomerang, just launch it back to mother Samsung.
Yep

I am happy they took care of you, I was late in sending in my device as I had to find my old S4, I am hoping to hear from Samsung soon regarding this issue, I am hoping they replace it with a new Alpha, as I am pretty fond of the device. I came from an S5 and would prefer either a replacement Alpha or the Note 4 so I can actually root it unlike my 850a.
Advice??
I am looking for any advice from you guys. Samsung has decided that my Alpha is no longer covered under warranty, or at least the "issue" with my device is not covered. I am well aware that the phone did not bend by sitting in it's box since new, however, I am somewhat taken back by the "fact" that a bend such as the one in my device is considered "out-of-warranty damage" since the phone is in perfect condition and has been in a Speigen case and covered with a tempered glass screen protector keeping even the lightest of scratches from affecting my device. I am an avid consumer of Samsung products, especially the Galaxy device line, I have had an S3, S4, S5, Note 3, and Alpha. This is my first time dealing with Samsung regarding product repair and I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, but a repair cost of 70$ was not part of it. I have spoken with the correct department and am now wating for a phone call from the tech that reviewed my case and am expecting the phone to ring sometime tomorrow.
The advice I am looking for is what I should do, should I just say okay and pay the $70, should I have them box my phone back up and return it to me as is, or should I request to speak with a "higher-up" until I am satisfied with the repair (full-cost of repair or replacement covered by the manufacturer) and have them continue to be supported by myself as a new phone buyer every year. If I cannot come to an agreement with Samsung, they will no longer be the go-to phone maker for me and will lose thousands of dollars in sales from me in the next few years, the S6 was looking to be my next purchase and I even plan on buying a black S6 on release date and possibly take my girlfriend to replace her Note 3 the same day.
Am I just being a whinny consumer and should accept the fact that if I did not use my Alpha it would not be bent, or should I expect to be covered considering the point that this is a metal phone and is not exactly a huge device to be easily disfigured. Apple has certainly had a small dent put into sales of the 6 Plus for this exact issue, so shouldn't Samsung be expected to help cover my case since it is from my perspective a design problem, I really loved the Alpha and want to continue using the device, but at this point I will just put it in the box and stick it in my closet and use my S4 for a few more months until I go buy an M9 or G FLEX 2? What should I do guys? Am I being childish about this and just want things to go my way or should I just be a good little consumer and say here is the $70 and when can I buy your all mighty S6, returning to Apple is not an option for me. Thanks guys...
My Galaxy Alpha
Same! My phone has bent the same way as your phone's and I keep mine in the frone jacket pocket. I can't explain why but I noticed it lagging recently. It bent a few months ago so I shrugged it off but now it's getting worse and worse.

Got a Free Gear VR - Samsung ROCKS!

So you guys may remember the promotion Samsung held in June. Where if you buy a regular S6/S7, S6/S7 Edge, or Note 5 between June 1st and June 19th, Samsung would send you a free Gear VR Along with some "experience pack" that has some games and movies, to my understanding, worth $50. Making the total package worth $150. Or the software pack was worth $150. I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was the former. Well I bought my S7 in May, so I didn't qualify for it. But figured "what the hell. Worst that can happen is they deny me" and submitted for it anyways. And, well, they denied me. I figured that would be the result and shrugged it off. I still wanted a Gear VR, and planned on buying one, a few days before I was gonna get it, my laptop that had been hanging on by a thread, finally bit the dust on me. So I ended up putting the Gear VR on the back-burner and had to get a new laptop instead.
Fast-forward to a couple days ago and I get a random email from Samsung. They wrote that although I was initially denied the Gear VR bundle, they changed their minds. Telling me that I'll be notified when it ships (likely 6-8 weeks) and at that time I will also be provided with instructions to redeem the software bundle for it. That was awesome news to me. They didn't have to do that. I was already denied. They could have just left it at that, and no hard feelings, I bought my phone outside the time-frame after all. I was dead in the water. But they decided to manually override my denial and change it so that I WOULD get one instead. They had no reason or obligation to do so, but did it anyways. I'm so excited, and so happy to be receiving one that I thought I would make a post about my awesome experience with them. They definitely went above and beyond for a customer. So I wanted to make this thread to publicly thank Samsung, and to also show the community that I think their customer service is fantastic for going far above and beyond in order to hook me up with the Gear VR just out of the goodness of their hearts. Huge thumbs up for Samsung's service.. Great experience...
well I stand corrected. I got an email this morning with a tracking number. I should get it by the weekend. Sure sounds a lot better to me than 6-8 weeks lol. Also, since I'm rooted, I can hook my PS3 controller up to it, which is perfect. I can't wait to start playing with it
Congrats! Hope u enjoy ur new gear

thanks man. I can't wait. I just found the right app to connect my PS3 controller and created my Oculus account, so I'm basically just waiting to get it in hand and I'm ready to go now
ETA:
FedEx updated me that my shipment is no longer in the "label printed" status and has actually shipped. I'll have it by the end of the day Saturday. Now that it's officially in the air, I can't get any "oh it was a mixup. We didn't intend to send you the approval email. Your purchase didn't qualify afterall, so we can't send you the promotional gift. We apologize for the misunderstanding" kinda crap that I was half expecting with my luck. But now it's in the air so I just gotta wait for it to arrive... Now I really can't wait
yeah i got a free Samsung Gear VR with my S7 haven't used it yet though lol

really? You should. I've read movies alone are incredible. And the games made for it are likely even better
I'm so excited for mine that I've gotten everything prepared to be able to start using it the moment it comes
sure , samsung is raising
I bought a used Sprint S7 off of Swappa and did the promo submission with my PayPal receipt thinking it would probably not be approved because it wasn't new from an official seller... I received an approval and shipment notice within 48 hours. Samsung is being pretty generous with their promo! No complaints here!
Heh, I bought an S7 2 days after the promo ended guess I should have given a shot back when submissions were open!
Lucky you anyway OP.
Is there any way of claiming one now?
I bought the S7 on July 15th. The perfect date to get absolutely nothing! I suppose it's not worth submitting a request anyway?
Congrats, I wish the promotion was still going on but I got a used one off ebay. Is there a big difference between the 2016 version and the older version? Can the newer version fit A case with my s7?

but case like UAG, spigen crystal don't work.
I received the Gear VR '16 in December after buying S7 Flat screen 930F. Is it just me or doesn't it fit the S7 Flat properly?
They were actually meant for the Note 7 as they all come with the Type C adapter. Therefore (me thinks) it was meant for the larger phones being the Note and Edge series. But it works ok - just feels like the phone might fall out of the casing.
I got lucky! Back in December, my previous phone (LG G3) died. Called Verizon to see if any deals were coming up since at the time, the only good ones were with trade-ins. Since my G3 was dead, no trade-in possible. The rep looked and found in his email that starting the next day, various phones would be on-sale for $10/month with no-trade in! This was for the Moto Z, S7, iPhone 7s, and the Google Pixel. I immediately went with the S7.
When I went in the next day (couldn't wait for online to be delivered), the rep in the store brought out the Gear VR. I stated I didn't want to purchase it. He said he understood, but at the time, they were doing the special where if you purchased an S7 or S7 Edge, you got the Gear VR 2016 for free. He wasn't sure if it would work for the no trade-in deal I was using, but he wanted to see if it would. Lo and behold, when he scanned it in with my S7 purchase on the $10/month no trade-in deal, it came up free! So I got quite a deal all together. My phone is $10/month with no trade-in and I got the Gear VR 2016 for free to boot. Also, they included an Oculus code that was good for a $50 valued bundle that covered one of two bundles that I could choose from: a game bundle, or another bundle that included 2 movies (ID4 - the original in 2D, and Life of Pi in 3d) as well as some other VR apps, including Face your Fear, Ocean Rift, etc. Wasn't too bad. Face your Fear was good, especially the Story Time where you're a child in your bed at night and you can choose from three supposedly "happy" books to read at bed time. Yeah, right! Very well done!

I'm such a klutz! After Youtubing, I discovered that you have to move A to B on the VR device by pressing down on that "adapter" for the smaller S7 or S6 to fit in properly. Now I'm happy... hope this helps anyone.

[O'Canada] Axon 7 for us up North

Hallo
So we up north are many times over seen and handled by many OEMs as a subsidiary of the US. There are pro's and con's to this scenario. With ZTE Canada regarding the Axon 7, I have gathered the following:
1. As of mid-August 2016, only Newegg Canada is the sole legal distributor of the Axon 7.
Comment: Not too bad but it would have been nice to get Amazon.ca and BestBuy.ca included. Amazon.ca has really good return policy.
2. We're stuck with the Passport 1.0 warranty package as opposed to the Passport 2.0 package that is setup for the US. Currently this is what is listed for this Passport 1.0 warranty:
30-day risk-free trial
Full two-year product warranty
Free Premium Protection to cover repairs out of warranty
Free advanced exchanges of devices
Free two-way shipping
Support for new Android updates when made available
Comment: Not sure how good or bad this is in real life. I hope others who have bought the Axon Pro in Canada can share their experiences.
3. General after sale support? I don't even know if ZTE Canada have local support or if we get passed to US support. If for example, I want to invoke the Passport warranty, do I deal with a local person or US?
4. Delivery of device? I ordered my Gray on July 27th, just got a shipping email from Newegg.ca literally 3 mins ago declaring that the device is shipping out of NJ, but do delivery time not showing up as yet.
Hopefully we can share our experiences especially with regards to after sale support.
Have any of the Canadians seen if you're getting the US model or the G (international) model?

Hi
From what others have said:
1. Canada is getting the US model.
2. All deliveries are sourced from the US, even with US packaging, hence there was some initial confusion as to what warranty we'll be getting (Passport v2 - that was in the received box vs Passport v1 that we Canadian are really 'entitled' to).
Hi
So I noticed that many of us are posting and updating a our experiences on other boards, I prefer XDA as its where we'll be getting the best community support going forward for us geeky types.
As a heads up:
1. There is an active thread at ZTE USA forums.
2. Redflags forum have some us posting there.
3. I heard of a sub-Reddit thread but was until to locate it.
So far my Purolator delivery is stuck on shipping label created status since last afternoon with no recent updates. Others have said that they have seen their Purolator status updated showing customs clearance.
I read that someone had received a package from Newegg.ca (out of NJ) that took 6 days to be delivered in Toronto! Unbelievable that we have a courier service that can't provide decently prompt services.

Don't track your package through the Purolator site. Try tracking it with the link in the tracking email Newegg sent you. When I track my package through the Purolator site I get absolutely nothing. With the link in the email, I get details as to where my package is. It's supposed to be delivered tomorrow in Toronto. Not sure if this will be the same for you
Received mine around 3pm today. Can confirm it is the US model. Happy to answer any other questions you might have
Mine showed "shipping label created" for a day as well - rest assured, it's likely in transit and you'll see a more accurate update once it crosses the border.
Mine now shows it's arrived at the Toronto sort facility and should be delivered later today (Aug. 18).
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using XDA Free mobile app
Would you recommend it now or I should wait ?
Hi guys, thinking of upgrading from my lg g3 for the axon 7 here in Canada due to the sensors drift in vr apps and the good old overheat problem when doing cpu intensive tasks. Should I wait before buying it to see or you would recommend it even in the current software state ?
I'm in Calgary and have had my Axon 7 for a week or so now.
So far I'm happy, there are a couple of things that are weird (that damn notification bell is a pain) . Lack of themes ( I like to change the look of my device a lot).
The camera is better than what I expected, the audio (both front facing speakers and using headphones) is killer good (I got the Monster N-pulse free with my pre-order and they are by far the best headphones I've used ).
The build is top notch, feels great in the hand and solid.
Battery is great (on Wind Mobile) I get around 5ish hours.
The screen is great, works and looks great with a vr headset (I had a cheap one form eBay but Walmart started selling ones with a Bluetooth remote for $30 and its quite good)
Overall I'd give it a sold 8/10
Price is great for a factory unlocked phone without contract.
And just for reference, this is my 12th phone this year lol. Some include Nexus 6p, iPhone 6s, Samsung S7, OnePlus2, LG G4 and others .
Give it a couple months for customs Roms and this could be a real true "Flagship Killer"

How do you compare it with the Nexus 6p? In other words, do you think it's worth getting rid of my 6p for the axon 7? I'm really liking the sound of the audio quality of the axon but LOVE the pure stock and camera of my 6p.

A question like this is always subjective to the person and their preferences.
Now to me, I loved stock Android (still do)
But the 6p was too tall, too slippery and the build was pure garbage. After having the 6p for a week, I noticed a small bend, nothing too wild , but still a bend. Now I didn't have a case on it, but I never abused it, just kept it in my jeans pocket (no skinny jeans here lol).
I like the way the Axon feels in the hand better. As for sound, the Axon wins because of the Dolby Atmos, it just sounds better.
Now this can be fixed on the Nexus with Viper4Android, so it's moot lol.
If you can, hold onto the 6p, order an Axon and try it out for yourself. If you feel that the Axon is the way to go, sell the 6p. If you're not happy with the Axon, send it back for a refund (I think newegg.ca doesn't have a re-stocking fee)

Yeah you're right, my question is pretty subjective. Your answer helped a lot though, thanks. I already ordered and received the Axon. My issue is that I'm not positive if Newegg will honor giving me the refund if returned within the 30 days. Their standard policy which is what the phone is under conflicts with the 30 day return period. I'll have to give them a call. Thanks again

No prob.
As for Newegg.ca you could always claim the phone as defective and since they have no phones to exchange with....
Hola
I received my grey version 2 days ago... already rooted and loving the device. Coming from the S7 Edge, the transition was a little strange because I had got accustomed to holding the Edge differently because of the edge screen (given that I use a case).
So far no major issues other than the smaller software quirks that so many have listed. I use the provided TPU case until I can find a replacement case on Amazon.ca or ebay.ca. Nothing I saw fits what I like... like the typical Spigen Neo Hybrid series. Just wished it had wireless charging, so I am ordering a Uniqi receiver (which comes with USB type C dongle).
Made a number of calls in the Mississauga area, no issues with voice calls. No issues with LTE connectivity or Wi-Fi.

I can't speak for Rogers, I am using Koodo (they use Telus and Bell cellular network in Ontario) and so far all is well with me in West Mississauga. Open a thread in the Help forum here on XDA or the ZTE official USA forums to get device specific support from their USA moderation team.
Try invoking a network settings reset on the device and see if that helps at all.

Do you have to run the bootloader in order for it to work on the Canadian network?

Got mine as well - still tinkering and setting up but happy with it so far (other than a few quirks and some of stock apps).
Anyone also seeing the back up account setting greyed out in the backup & restore settings?
Also, off-topic, but to those who received the headphones from NewEgg, can you confirm the audio cable is removable? The coiled cable on mine seems like it's firmly fixed...

If you're talking about the Monster headphones, the audio cord is removable as it comes un-attached in the box .

Unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with network compatibility. The A7 has all the bands used by Canadian carriers enabled by default.
Interesting...my headphones came with a (somewhat long) coiled cable already attached that don't seem to be removable - there's a separate cable in the box with the microphone and controls...I've included a picture taken with my Axon 7..

Just to let you know, I called Clove today and they said that there's a problem with the distributor in the UK.
According to clove the distributor upgraded their software system and messed it up so the stock is stuck in their warehouse.
Apparently clove offered to go and collect it but the distributor said they would still need to mark the inventory as having gone out which they are struggling to do...
They are hoping for the phones to get sent out later in the week
I've got the refund from them now. In the end though I am returning the phone to Amazon, mainly due to the side buttons. I don't like them!
Two week delay on mine. Got an e-mail from Sony offering me a free 'cover' due to the delay. I'm in two minds to take them up on the offer.
Quote - '
Unfortunately we are facing delivery delays due to a technical issue in our warehouse. We are expecting a two week delay to your order. To thank you for your patience we would like to offer you the Xperia 1 III Cover, RRP £34.99, free of charge.'
Plus I got a Google Nest Hub 7" shipped to me by mistake instead of the headphones. I need those ear warmers. Winter is coming.
Well I've been using the mk3 for a bit next to my s21 ultra and one of them need to go back under the 14 day cooling period lol just don't know which one to keep
Must admit the mk3 display is great but not very bright compared to the s21 ultra even just playing hdr videos indoors
Cameras are both good (s21 ultra is amazing with zoom though)
Battery life seems better on the s21 ultra (even though I have the exynos variant)
Just something about the Sony in the hand and the software just feels better
Aahhhh need to make my mind up quickly lol
Good news, they beat the two week delay by three days. Going to retire my Poco F1. It served me well up until I broke the screen. It's still my alarm clock. I'm waiting on an update about my headphones from the shippers, I chased them up today and they are still looking into it. If I don't get anything satisfactory from them within a week, I'll calling Sony. The free cover with stand is out of stock but I think I'll pass on that.
Ordered mine from Amazon UK last week shipping between end of September to end of October
Anyone been in a similar situation and got theirs early?
Amazon had a few units ship direct from Sony. Everyone else was waiting on the distributor (either Exertis or Ingram Micro, not sure which) due to their IT system ****up which was spectacular. Clove were more patient than I would have been but I guess every wholesaler was in the same boat. A singularly unimpressive start to this phone launch, with stony silence from Sony UK. I received my unit from Clove last Saturday.
