So, I tried without root but it's over, only root or different ROM? - OnePlus 7T Pro (Regular & McLaren) Q & A

So, I got this wonderfull piece of hardware, and tried to use it "as is" - don't use any google service, block IPs on firewall behind router to e.g. facebook, etc pp to keep things private. But this is more and more a choire, and with my previous phone it was far more easy thanks to the combination of LOS+magisk+afwall+. I want to use afwall again, hence magisk is a must. I would also go again with lineageOS, but it is not officially supported, so I have to go "unofficial" - which give me some concerns regarding no OTA and no security pachtes - or do I miss something? I would also lose the oxygenOS screenoff gestures - or are they supported by an app? Or another ROM? And what about havoc - it seems to be officially supported?
TLDR: Need root and the screen off gestures of oygenOS on oneplus 7t pro - how?

Normally, ROMs are official if they support every feature. If they lack something or use proprietary code/drivers etc. it is more difficult to obtain that status though unofficial doesn't necessarily mean it is less secure. Just like with any other build you rely on the maintainer for updates so as long as the maintainer/dev chooses to update the ROM, your security patches will be up to date.
I'm not sure about screen off gestures though. Havoc tends to implement everything that is possible while LineageOS stays clean and barebones. The choice comes down to preference. Though, maybe there is something about screen off gestures in the appropriate threads

I just got the 7T Pro 2 days ago so I had no idea about RICE. Looks like I'm going to have to downgrade to 10.0.9.

Guys, first of all thank you - I guess the good old flashing game will start very soon again. Basically flashing a stock ROM with MAGISK, and after that I pimp with some Modules, right?
Open questions: Do I lose my data and settings? Do I lose future OTAs?

If you haven't unlocked your bootloader yet, yes you will lose data and settings.

What's working?
Everything seems to be working as on the official s9 los15 build; with minor exceptions (screen recording can sometimes be a lil buggy, nfc can be a lil hicky etc)
What's not working?
Obviously Samsung's own features such as Samsung Pay, KNOX, Theme Center, Game Launcher, etc. won't be ported to LineageOS Pixel Experience. We may have our own implementation to similar functions, though.
Iris sensor does not work because AOSP upstream does not support that yet.
IMS services (VoLTE, VoWiFi, etc). Samsung has their own proprietary implementation. It is not really possible to easily port that to LineageOS PixelExperience.

Disclaimer: This rom is not built by me. That has been done by @malinathani with some help from myself. After that he insisted that I make this thread :highfive:
Instructions:
Make sure TWRP has been installed and functional.
Download the latest build linked below
Reboot to recovery
Wipe data and cache (required if you switch from other ROMs). Even better if you have nothing to loose and wipe system, data, cache, storage etc
Flash the latest build (and gapps). DONT flash gapps. they are already included in the rom.
Reboot and enjoy :victory:

Troubleshooting/FAQ:
Q: Whaaaaaa??? You are developing for the note9 now?
A: Nah, not really. This isn't even built by me. I just helped the guy who did it so much he insisted I create the thread. I'm not promising any future development on my end but hey
Q: The rom isn't booting/camera doesn't work
A: Flash/make sure you have the ARH5 vendor and try again.
Q: The rom is in a bootloop/google apps keep crashing
A: You did read the instructions and NOT flash any gapps riighhttt?? smh, wipe /system,/data and /cache and start over
Q: I have another bug; How can i tell it to you while slightly increasing my changes of it ever getting fixed.
A: You can tell me what's going on either here or on telegram WITH A LOGCAT attached(required);if rom isn't booting at all attach /proc/last_kmsg.
Q: I don't know what/how to logcat. Is it really necessary?
A: Logcat or gtfo
Q: How can i support you?
A: Awwww thanks; On most of my posts on the left side there's a "donate to me" paypal button; You can use that, donations are more than welcome, or if you don't have any $ to spare you can also post here about how awesome i am (this surprisingly helps very much)

Good day,
1. Is there a link/attachment for an official ARH5/ARH6 vendor image that we can use with this ROM?
2. I wiped /system,/data and /cache flashed the ROM with and without an ARH6 image (https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904015418) within TWRP and got bootloop.
What am I missing?

I totally agree, but give this a shot once, it's noticeably smooth compared to the gsis out there (I've used many myself) it also has dual speakers working. As for pie gsis they have this animation lag while switching and opening apps. Give it a shot and I hope you'll like it.

Thank you. Great to have specific support just for Note9!
I've tried other GSIs from Treble forums and yes on those roms only mono audio output works and also had brightness issues last time I tried it. I will try this out

I flashed it and I gotta say, this is very good. I'll keep this as my daily driver if I don't run into any issues which I haven't so far
I really like that there's bixby button custom options included. Rom is super smooth. Definitely smoother than other GSIs on the treble forums. Dual speakers are working but volume seems lower than stock (can anyone confirm this?)
Regarding the vendor, I am using ARH6 vendor. Like I said, so far I haven't gotten any issues.
I think you should include in OP that root isn't included. I flashed Magisk zip and it works fine though

How well does it handle memory? I heard AOSP roms on GS9 doesn't keep apps in memory as well as stock.
Also for the low volume thing. Have you tried Dolby Atmos? It has always helped me in the past with my phones.
Okay so.. I'm having a weird issue. The rom was working perfectly fine and then it started to register every single tap as a long press. Every time I touch the screen, it registers a long press. If this issue can be fixed, everything else was working great. At first, I thought it was because I installed magisk modules but I just uninstalled magisk completely and the issue is still there. Logcat is attached.
@Fiso I'll try Dolby Atmos and keep an eye on memory as soon as the touchscreen issue goes away.

Hmmmm, that's weird, which module did you install btw? If you still have this issue you can try dirty flashing the ROM or clean installing it again. I tested the ROM myself for almost a week before releasing it. Also which model are you using?

The module was xposed installer for the latest SDK. Model is N960F. Dirty flashing did not help. So I did a clean flash and it's fine for now. I'll flash magisk and install modules other than xposed and try

Yeah it isn't the module. I've done some more tests. The issue only happens if I install or restore multiple applications. Not sure why. Can you tell me what vendor you use?
Also, the keyboard seems sluggish. I don't mean the UI, like the touch responsivenes? If you type really fast, keyboard can't keep up (compared to stock)? Can you confirm this?

I would recommend you to reinstall apps only from playstore and not restore them because that is known to break stuff. I have no lag issues even on keyboard which you are saying. if you still have issues you can try with ARH5 vendor.

Best rom for stability and most vanilla android experience

For ages I have tried to avoid rooting my phone, mainly due to Google Pay. But with the constant issues and also now that I've just purchased bPay for my watch anyway, I no longer need Google Pay.
Even though my phone is not rooted, most apps thought it was.. so even the fixes only worked so far.. so screw it. haha.
I would like to root my phone and try and make my Xiaomi as close to vanilla Android as possible. What roms would people suggest?
Is the Xiaomi a wise phone to modify? Will I loose any features (camera etc)?
I have only really ever used OnePlus One devices, and other phones I have always relied on Google Pay access, so its been awhile since I rooted a phone and I have a feeling things may have changed a fair bit.. maybe even become more simple?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
My device; Mi 8 128GB, chinese import. Arrived with unlocked bootloader and global rom.. somehow.. even though global wasnt available at the time.. have since has xiaomi.eu rom, most recent on the device. But im finding its waaay to buggy and im very eager to get rid of this.
try pixel experience
stock experience like the pixel 3 xl
almost the same camera if not better
great battery life stable and way smoother than miui 10
I was In a similar predicament
I went for havoc and find its fantastic
Similar to pixel experience but with more added features
Has gcam implemented already

pixel experience rom has everything that a pixel phone has including the amazing gcam
Use syberia! aosp based like all but best battery so far
You can try pixel experience, I'm using it for a while now and never thought of changing to another rom. This will be my permanent rom I guess. Pixel3ROM is also nice, but it's just a port so the dev heavily refuses to add compatibility features like IR camera support for face unlock etc. So main features of the device won't work kn that one.
LineageOS is just another option, but it feels so empty compared to Pixel Experience. Yes, it can be customized but it'll never get the capabilities of Pixel Experience, due to official Rom policies of LOS.
And another thing, my device is rooted and I'm using PE, and Google Pay is working.

About camera, it hss a Google Camera port that I can't really remember the name of dev, and you can flash the miui camera port from Magisk if you need that either.
If you have any questions about this rom, I'd love to answer them, I can consider myself as an experienced user of it I guess. I used miui for 2 weeks thanks to bootloader unlock timer, and believe me, when you switch, you will feel like tons of weight just pulled out of your shoulders.
Thanks everyone this is all really helpful to know. Sounds like Pixel Experience is the one to try first.

This is really handy to know. I was thinking today that maybe rooting etc my phone myself properly would give me better control over getting that set up to work properly.
One more thing, just checking over the instructions and a little lost on some bits;
Flash Instructions
1. Download ROM zip.
2 . Advanced Wipe: System, Data, Cache and Dalvik/cache - Already have TWRP from installing Xiaomi.eu rom.
3. Flash latest MIUI or Xiaomi.eu beta. - This step confuses me.. if I already have a xiaomi.eu rom installed, I presume I would skip this?
4. Flash Pixel Experience.
5. Flash Dm-verity and reboot into TWRP (Only if you're coming from MIUI stock. Skip that if you're coming from another custom ROM) - Guessing again, I would skip this as I am already on TWRP? Unsure what dm-verity is..
6. Advanced Wipe: Data
7. Reboot & enjoy.
Some background on the current config phone wise. Imported a Mi 8 before it was released globally, nor even a date was released at that point. The phone arrived with global rom I believe.. the bootloader was already unlocked however and it was in English, so I am unsure how they had the global rom on it.. unless was the chinese one in English? Eitherway. I just followed the usual guide to flashing Xiaomi.eu on the phone. TWRP was already on it, but it is a chinese version, in english, but with chinese text on the loading screen.. unsure if normal?
Thanks again!

You can't skip the 3rd step since you're wiping the system partition, vendor and/or firmware files will be gone, which are not included with the rom.
At 5th, https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389 After flashing this, reboot to recovery in order to do advanced wipe. Just follow the steps, don't be lazy!
Not sure about your phone, but there are a high chance of being a Chinese variant of your phone, check the rear glass for CE certificate logo, if there are any chinese text, your phone is a chinese variant. In this situation, be careful to not lock your bootloader.

When I got the phone there was a sticker on the back which was in Chinese, all the packaging was too. The text printed on the phones actual case is in English however.
Update: All done and all was a success. Thanks everyone!
Tried Pixel Experience - battery drain was so extreme had to flash another rom..
So now trying Havoc.. way too many bugs, no sound on alarms, phone stops responding to touch.. ergh. Battery is good though.. haha.
Looking like there may not be any rom which isnt free of bugs or battery drain on the Mi 8..
Sadly Google Pay, with Magisk and hide, does not work on any rom. Altho I managed to get another banking app to work by using Magisk hide ironically.

+1 that. Everything works perfect for me on AOSIP and I've been using it as my daily driver for a week now.

No, i haven't tried myself but i think i saw something about dual boot for s9 somewhere so should be easy to port over.
This is my daily driver now, dont think i will be using stock firmware again as this has everything i need.
Also if you dualboot alongside stock firmware im sure there will be a vendor mismatch problem.
ARK2 is what it is based on, any other vendors will either not boot at all or will break the cameras.

The reason why I want to dual boot is to not lose my data which is work related (some apps cant be simply reinstalled), but i really want to install your ROM!
Ill take a look and see if there is a way!

Battery life for me is very similar compared to stock, but my phone feels much faster, benchmarks score around the same only slightly higher.
If you are unrooted i don't think there is a safe way to backup your app data.
I hope my request is not a burdensome one to you but can you make a build for the korean version of note 9 (N960N)?
great developer, awesome rom - fast, nce and smooth........
Interesting .. Is HWC fixed now?
Nvm just saw your comment on HWC. Hopefully 16 comes sooner then later. Thanks for taking your time to release some new updated Asop goods.

Hell yes !! Thanks to the dev to make it possible ! Just a few questions about the spen before flashing that masterpiece
Are the spen and its features fully compatible with the rom just like the stock one or will I need to do some manipulations to get it ? And how about the spen smoothness in general ?
Thanks in advance

The Spen works well and will act like a mouse like it does in all aosp roms, it works to hover it over the screen and sensitivity is good, but the button won't work.

Yeah I understand what you mean. Not gonna lie that a bit frustrating. I'm a daily user of the Spen and that's way I was asking for it. I mean almost all its features are there excepting that button.. Anyway I will probably flash that one but do you know if it would be possible to make that button work in the future ?

I highly doubt AOSP will support the bluetooth button charging etc, as it's a samsung specific thing
for the S-Pen, I have been using AOSP rom 8.1
if you love AOSP and have a good reason to flash it, then it is possible to gain back some of the spen features in AOSP, not as smooth as in Sammy's Roms but ok, I posted what i did here, there is even a video showing what I did. it involves root, and xposed, (now ed exposed)
as for the spen bluetooth capability, the Spen is still active and recharges by itself. if you download nRF connect or lightblue apps from playstore, once you click the button you can see the pen as a bluetooth device SPEN (0D27) ZK, through these apps you can even subscribe to the service and get notifications when the button is pressed, so techinically speaking if someone has app development knowledge this can be done easily. to my limited knowledge I documented what I have discovered here
I have suggested to nRF connect App devs if they can have a tasker plugin so we upon a spen button click we can use tasker to make different actions, they reacted positively, the dev mentioned that they might work on it but might take some time since they are short resourced. but been some time since.
I did a funny workaround once, they keep the log in data/data/no.nordicsemi.android.log/databases, so when that file changes you can read the line change and read the button event, and trigger a tasker action.
its doable, just needs a proper dev that works on it. an AOSP spen remote, or even a custom BLE notification tasker plugin if he wants to make it universal and target alot of devices such as smartwatches..
last note: if the spen works funny in landscape, there is a post in the same thread showing how to fix it.
@Synt4x.93 I will flash this rom today.. Thank you for the awesome work..

[ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 18.1- microG Edition

Intro(Skip at your wish xd):
Hello guys, it's kind of frustrating that our 4a 5G don't get much love here(in custom ROM development perspective) as Pixel 5 as it's not really a "main" variant.
For myself, I love Pixel devices for Google releases "proper" device tree and most necessary stuff, but still it require quite some time for me to get things right and a working ROM build, hell, to be honest, I spent like about 30 hrs already as this is my first time to use AOSP tree + vendor blobs from Google site to build ROMs)
Despite the lack of previous experience, the first build that I'm releasing here, is working quite well, I haven't discovered any (device-specific) bug just yet, anyway, let's continue

Instructions:
0. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked
1. Download ROM zip from the link below, and grab Magisk patched boot.img inside the folder as well if you want root access
2. Reboot to bootloader
2.5. Flash updated bootloader.img and radio.img from Google site
3. Use `fastboot -w update LineageOS_microG-bramble-(BUILD DATE HERE)-userdebug-signed.zip` to flash
and yes, you can omit the "-w" parameter if you're not flashing for the first time, aka just updating from previous release
4(optional). Hopefully after flashing you'll be booted into LineageOS, reboot to bootloader again,
and flash the Magisk patched boot.img extracted from the 7z file with `fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img`,
reboot after finished
5. Enjoy!

Awesome, thank you!
I've never heard of the MicroG before so just looked that up. I'm loving that philosophy so I'm definitely gonna be checking that out! Thanks! My pixel is arriving tomorrow so after playing around with it first, I'll try out your ROM once there's more responses from others here.

LineageOS 18.0 is Android 11, but XDA didn't update the option menu so I chose Android 10.

Is anyone using this ROM as their daily driver? I'm still reluctant to risk my warranty
I guess I will roll the dice and give it a go. Anyone know if this will affect my e-sim with Google Fi?
Thank you, dic1911 for being so awesome to bring first rom to Bramble, which is almost brand-new! I appreciate your work and we are really glad for it.

It won't affect Google Fi.
Thanks. It looks great and runs good but I’m obviously missing something. I tried installing GApps via ADB side load and no matter which size Nikhil version I attempt to install, I get an error there’s not enough memory. I’ve rebooted after flashing to the rom and also done a factory reset to no avail. What am I missing? I’ve also tried it with and without the patched boot.img.

Does this rom use seedvault like mainline lineageos? Or is google backup in here even with microg?

Warranty? Should not effect that. I wouldn't think it would. Bootloader is unlockable and google even gives the option to flash aosp vanilla(no google) or public (official google rom) with their flashing tool (via chrome browser).
Are Pixel-Exclusive features such as Now Playing, Live Captions, Call Screening, Adaptive Sound, Screen Attention included and working?
Any issues getting safetynet to pass?

This is Lineage... You install this one to get privacy and free yourself from Gapps. You might be able to get most features running, but then you just can stay with stock - privacy is then gone again...

SeedVault is builtin system app for all LineageOS builds, no matter it's official or not, if it's not there in someone else's build, either it's removed by the builder or the build is too old.
So yes, SeedVault is in my build, but there's no guarantee that it works with any apps just like Google Backup(which I found pretty much useless in my case)
PS. I'm not really as active as I was on xda since about 2 years ago, please join Telegram for more updated stuff
PPS. I released GCam extracted from stock ROM and modified to make it work on LineageOS(and pretty much any custom ROM with right stuff baked in), and yes, you'll need to flash updated build from my Telegram channel (It's more convenient for me to upload to Telegram as the storage space there is unlimited)
LineageOS 18.1 is up!
Now with December security patch, grab it from the link in OP

[CLOSED] Rick's Rom DUB5 SM-N986U1 Snapdragon Safe Update To One UI 3.1

First, I am not responsible to what happens after you flash this. If your phone dose not work afterwords it is your own doing. I didn't force you to flash it..
This is a stock rom for the most part for the Snapdragon Note 20 Ultra U1 that I use as my daily driver. I disabled file encryption, removed knox, fixed screen cast and shealth plus Bluetooth and smartwatch pairing. Most of the Google apps are uninstallable. I'll try to keep this up to date every month the best I can. Enjoy.
You Must Have A Unlocked Bootloader and a SM-N986 U1 or U Ultra to proceed. This Might Wipe Your Data!! Make a Back up!!.
Instructions:
1: Flash with Odin in the respective slots (bl, ap, cp and csc).
2: Wipe and format data in recovery if coming from a different rom or android version.
3: Reboot and set it up.
Enjoy.
See this thread or this thread if you need a unlock. The teams there are great!
Built With SuperR's Kitchen
Thanks @afaneh92 for the unlock and TWRP
Thanks @bklyn_syed for sharing the fixes for Bluetooth and shealth.

Thanks I built it last night.
Anyone who downloaded this before this post please re-download the rom. I had a file mixed up with another rom by mistake, sorry. New files are uploading now. Please report any problems you may have if any, Thanks.
I uploaded some a new build that addresses the game launcher crash and theme store crash.
@Misterxtc Very glad to see more custom roms being built.
Would you be able to build an AOSP rom for the Note 20 Ultra (SM-986U)?
Would love to see an AOSP rom like Lineage OS or Havoc OS

I don't think so but I'm really not sure, I haven't looked into it. The big deal for me is downloading more firmware, keeping track of more files, storage space and time. Honestly it's pretty simple to build your own. You can get all the info you need for that here .

I was sitting here debating on whether to go with 10 or 11 lol. Durrr me...I'm all for a custom cleaned up ROM any day over the untouched stock firmware. I see that your ROM is on the latest 11 (CUA1). Nice!
Since your tweaking the universal U1 firmware and since there isn't any carrier bloatware in there, is there much to really remove to make it even more lean and lighter? I know in the old days those firmware's were loaded with bloat and by removing them helped it a lot.
I also noticed that the latest 11 file size was smaller than the latest 10. From what you can see is that from just making 11 more efficient, thus making it lighter?
Regarding the change log:
Disabled File Encryption - Is that for the entire device file encryption or the built in folder encryption that was disabled? What are the benefits from disabling this? Does it just make it smoother even if you don't use the encryption feature on the device?
Removed Knox - Does using a smart watch to use Samsung Pay etc... still a work around even with the device knox removed?
Are there any settings to be able to tweak camera settings to improve the camera? iirc back in the Note 3 and 4 days, a Dev said that there was a value in the image quality or something that was set to I think 8 instead of the max 10? He had maxed that out and included that in the ROM... I'm curious if such adjustments exist in the 11?
Does the CUA1 have the baked in Microsoft Swiftkey (VIRUS) or is that only on carrier firmware's?
I have the Unlocked varaint of the Note 20 Ultra straight from Samsung. Oddly, it came with firmware ATGO, which is ATT lol.. but I'm on TM. What has been annoying is that I can't uninstall the darn microsoft swiftkey.
I love Swiftkey as a keyboard (best touch accuracy IMO), but despise the intrusivemness, so I like to use my own tweaked swiftkey with the internet premissions removed w/ using AFWall+ to block everything else. ie...
The thing is that I haven't been able to install the tweaked swiftkey due to it not letting me since the stock MS one is baked in...
