A latest Custom ROM for that phone doesn't exist. IMHO it's on you to find a Custom ROM ( more than 10 are available ) what matches your needs and is applicable to that phone.
BTW:
You can send mail to Google in order to get answered the question what Android version is necessary

Thanks for the response. I am not an expert with these. When I find a ROM, is there a way to know whether it's applicable to a particular phone?

I want to know too. I have a Chinese dual SIM which I would like to update. Is there a standard or generic Android OS updater?

Of course not. There are many different devices, so is very difficult develop a tool like that.
To both: The updates are device-dependant, so you need to wait for updates from your manufacturer device. However, you can try a ROM developed for the chipset of your device (you can get the model using CPU Identifier). Of course, this way gives no guaranties of good functionality.

[Q] Android Devices Currently Not Supported By Cyanogenmod

Hello Guys,
Could anyone please provide some info about this case:
o What are my options if I have an Android device (smartphone) not supported by CyanogenMod?
o Is there anything than waiting until my model will be added to the supported list? I bought a very simple and reasonably priced "no-name" phone (Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM), and I learn now one disadvantage is that it is not supported.
o I also did not find anything about rooting, flashing or even booting it up into safe mode / recovery.
Any help and info is very much appreciated.

Well, here it is straight forward, your device only gets official support if the Cyanogenmod teams deems the unofficial build for it stable and reliable to gain official support. If there isn't any unofficial builds then it's safe to say that it will never have official support. As for rooting the device there may be methods for it available, a universal root for example, flashing as in roms and other things, no clue, never heard of that device before and there might not be any support for it either. So with that being said, hope this helps you.

Hi Yoelpro,
Thanks for your info. Since my first post I have managed to root my device - was very happy. It was not too easy, given that it is extremely minimal supported. I already tried TWRP with GooManager, but when I try to install an open recovery sript, surprise surprise: "no recoveries were found for your device".
Any ideas if there is another way to find one and copy it on the phone? I have to confess being too scared even trying to flash a custom ROM without flashing a backup first. I managed to find out that the stock ROM is a Vanilla on my Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM.
Thank you.

Hey there Critical Detox
Thanks for your info. Since my first post I have managed to root my device: Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM - was very happy to see that it is working.
Unfortunately, I could not even find an unofficial CM build, I'm quite sure that an official build does not exist. Interestingly, my device was once perfectly recognized as SP-2X.SLIM and once recognised as HTC (for drivers) during the rooting. I'm very curious IF or AS WHAT my device would be recognized if I started the one click install of CM. I might be a chicken, but a careful chicken as I don't want to do it before saving a backup of the stock ROM to my SD card first. When I try to install an open recovery sript (GooManager), surprise surprise: "no recoveries were found for your device". I managed to find out that the stock ROM on my device is a Vanilla 4.2.2 but could I not find this ROM to download yet.
Any help is very welcome, as I am not quite an expert and my phone is a quasi no-name model.
Cheers,
schmayer

i guess its 4.2.2

Discontinued.. the rom seems to be of i8558 and not i8552...thanks for all those who tested it..
A guy on facebook pasted a link and was asking if v could c if its really 4.2.2 ... currently i cant download such a big file so can any1 of u can just check if its 4.2.2:laugh::good:
>>>Credits for link---- Jesus Jake Estadilla
i am downloading and will report on this, dont know if ill flash it though.
ps, googling "CHM-I8552ZMUAMK1" sent me in to some pages reporting it to be for GT-I8558, which officially has 4.2
EDIT: CHM-I8552ZMUAMK1 seems from China Mobile, where as there is another 4.2.2 version from India, which is INS-I8552XXANA5, downloading both now, will mirror in mega probably.
If possible plz upload to pcloud...
Sent from my GT-I8552 using XDA Free mobile app
I am uploading three packages right now, the two suspicious 4.2.2 and the latest 4.1.2 (just in case, havent seen mirrors around)
CHM-I8552ZMUAMK1-4.2.2 - Multi Package
BOOTLOADER_I8558ZMUAMK1_2048505_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CODE_I8558ZMUAMK1_2048505_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CSC_CHM_I8558CHMAMK1_2048505_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
MODEM_I8558ZMUAMK1_2048505_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
INS-I8552XXANA5-4.2.2 - One Package
I8552XXANA5_I8552ODDANB3_I8552DDAMI1_HOME.tar.md5
the indian one package seems way too fishy, searching the name strings shows a similar name release for JB 4.1.2...dont kill me for that, just downloaded and repackaged everything from the baidu stuff in china.
EDIT: how similar is 8558 with 8552? anyone knows this?
Porting of Android 4.2.2 from different carrier.
Unfortunately it's the same 4.1.2 build.
Here is the sammy link check out:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=33961
And as we are talking about the i8558 is already based on android 4.2.2. I think any of the developers could port it for having the same hardware and even the specifications.
Here is the link for its latest build :
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=32288
Good thinking, i tried to get the 8558 in samsung-updates.com but it didnt show up.
I'll download MG1 as well, seems newer then the leaked one, and as you can see on the MK1 multi package file names, they all have 8558 in the naming conventions.
is there any report for the phones having cross compatible roms? cause my phones name is Galaxy Win Duos (not quattro), but it shows 8552.
EDIT: here's the mirror of your first initial link you've posted. I'll try to find a link for MG1 as well, i cant see the link in sammobile.
I8552ZMUAMK1
and latest JB 4.1.2 in case anyone wants it:
I8552XXANH4
Galaxy Win Duos is an alternative name for Galaxy Grand Quattro. It depends of the country.
And about the rom: it was tested? I will flash it later to see if it is 4.2.2.

not sure if it'll work though, i've just found another thread like this in our Win/Quattro community...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680287
most of the devs seem CM or kernel oriented, i doubt we will ever see any port of this if it doesnt work out of the box.
anyway, im am downloading MG1, so dont bother flashing MK1, i will upload it ASAP at pcloud.
EDIT: no company can confuse the sh!t out of ur soul then sammy...
it is so hard to tell which one is the latest now, while replying the above posts, i've noticed that MK1 should be way above MG1, yet MG1 has a newer build date then MK1, where as the first firmware ever released was MI1, which means highest PDA value. WTF??? Check the attachment for the ROM order in sammobile.

According to Sammobile, MG1 is newer then MK1. Alphabetically it shouldnt, but MG1 is 2014 where as MK1 is 2013.
Here's the mirror for MG1 as well, this one is a single package:
I8558ZMUANG1_I8558CHMANG1_CHM

That's because it is, actually, NG1, not MG1. So it goes later.
I am downloading right now, soon I will flash it.
EDIT 1: Odin refuses to flash the package of first post's link. The progress meter don't increase. I am downloading now an package of Sammobile to try again.
EDIT 2: The package of Sammobile was refused too. A CWM-flashable zip may work.
If someone create a flashable zip, I test. I don't know how to make one from stock rom.
Oh, it is NG1, thanks for noting that, i wouldve never noticed it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149123
Juat found this Odin to Zip guide...
I will try this, but I am not sure if it works. Android Kitchen can create a flashable zip, but it needs to be configured for our device and I don't know how to do it.
Anyway, I will try the link.
I used this link to do some changes on the script:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-quattro/development/info-win-grand-quattro-partition-t2792496
I changed the /system partition to mmcblk0p21.
EDIT 1: I just prepared the zip, I'm going to flash it right now.
EDIT 2: Flashed it successfully, but didn't boot. I'm going to change the kernel to see if it works.
EDIT 3: Doesn't boot. The rom need to be ported.
made an inquiry myself Here, but i looks like u got all the info needed.
too bad , both sammy and community seem to ignore this device pretty well
Newest i8558 rom. http://pan.baidu.com/s/1i3l5YxZ
Baidu links outside china are useless. Besides, ur link seems to have only Odin and a couple of other tools, no rom there.
I'd advise everyone to ignore this thread, ofc except devs who could port this since it's 99% our phone.
nope
the GT-I8552 is still on 4.1.2 JB !!!!
When i did live chat with samsung guys, they said there would be update to 4.4.2 but there is no official date yet.
Srivathsa . :
i wanted to know why there is no software update for galaxy grand quattro. and it's still in 4.1.2?
Pragati :
Surely, I will help you in this regard.
Srivathsa . :
while all other manufacturers are providing updates for their mobiles
Srivathsa . :
why samsung is not keen to update it?
Pragati :
We would like to inform you that feedback to release a firmware update for Model No GT-I8552 has already been sent to our department concerned.
Pragati :
They are in the process of developing the same; however, as of now there is no official release date available with us.
Pragati :
Also, your Samsung handset comes with a feature which will automatically inform you about any new firmware release provided it’s connected to Internet.
Srivathsa . :
ok..do you know what release they would be updating to?
Srivathsa . :
is it 4.4 or 4.2?
Pragati :
As of now there is no official information on the release date of the next Android 4.4.2 for Galaxy Quattro(Gt-I8552) in India from Samsung and you will be notified by the Samsung website when/if the update is released.

Hi there,
Since its a GENERIC TABLET made by an unknown Chinese manufacturer, it's impossible to get a firmware update. The best way is for you to create a custom version of android using LINEAGE OS, and also porting a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP. But even though you have successfully created the OS you might not be able to install it on your Chinese Tablet.
Anyways if something happened during the process here's the link to download the stock firmware for that tablet :
https://www.cfirmware.com/index.php?a=browse&b=file-info&id=8942
USE SPFLASH TOOL TO install the firmware since it is an MTK device.
Sincerely
KISB2173
Yeah i started to go that route but have been unable to find a recovery for it or a lineage version for it. is it possible to use a twrp and linage for a different but similiar tablet?

Hi there,
Yeah Twrp is just a recovery software, and Lineage is just a custom ROM, so you can use it on a different tablet. But again you have to port those two software for it to work.
However you can research it on google to see how to port them on different phones or tablets.

Update android from 4.4.2 to 5.0+ on hisilicon TV Box

I have been trying to find a method to update the android version on Hisilicon Hi3796 M100 android Set top box which is at present running android 4.4.2. As the android is this old, it doesn't support a good number of apps, from playstore, or by adb. I tried to find a custom rom online, but couldn't find. Is there one? Or is there any way to update the os if there is no official update available?
Moving from Android 4.4.2 to Android 5.0+ is an upgrade not an update.
To upgrade you need a Custom ROM what requires you have to flash a Custom Recovery ( e.g. TWRP ) before. Do you have a 100% matching TWRP available?
Hey,
Thank you for the quick reply. And thank you again for correcting that update-upgrade thing. Will keep it in mind.
And I am sorry I couldn't find a custom ROM for my device online. I am not sure what exactly it means by flashing a custom recovery.
Could you please explain it a little bit... or give some link from where I could find it out?
Thank you.
