New update V20e in Canada - LG G8X ThinQ Guides, News, & Discussion

Finally an update! August security patch and performance updates from what it says. There was also an update to the dual screen.

Nice to get another update, the phone has been great lately. I find the size perfect, and I find myself even switching from the colossal V60 for greater in hand feel. The only thing I need in an update performance wise would be a switch to the velvet launcher by default so that we can enable pull down for notifications.

Market 3.2 from ICS

Hey guys,
New Market (3.2) from ICS has been leaked. I tried it on my Tab (Blazaar's 3.1 non-TW rom) and it force quits on me. Tried clearing data.
I installed it through ADB and made sure to change permissions after pushing it. No go.
Anyone have any luck? Not much seems to have changed aside from the icon but I like having the latest and greatest.
Not many ICS apps are gonna work on HC bro

3.2 works fine on my Tab and Nexus S; rename Vending.apk in system/app, drop in replacement market, rename, set permissions, however 3.2 is not optimized for the large screen, have a look for 3.1.5 for honeycomb which will give you the new market style for big screens, including portrait mode.
Go to System/app/
Rename vending.apk to vending.apk.old
Move this attached vending.apk to system/app
If necessary reset permissions to rw-r-r
Restart Tab and enjoy
Edit: anyone having luck with this one I have posted..it is made for the tablet. Supports both landscape and portrait
Hey guys,
Thanks for your replies. I did install through ADB and set permissions (chmod 644 which is rw-r-r) but it still doesn't work.
As far as not working on Honeycomb...the 3.2 works fine on Gingerbread, assumed it would work OK on Honeycomb (I know this doesn't mean anything - just figured I would try).
Which ROM are you guys using that it's working?
Also, as far as not being for tablet screens - don't think that's true. When I launched 3.2, it launched full-screen with the little menu in the upper right - a sure sign it is tablet optimized. Was it just not working for you in Portrait mode?
However, seconds after it launches and tries to load, is when I get the force close.

On 3.1.5 for honeycomb I have the menu plus My Apps in the top corner and a two column menu in the main part of the screen, 3.2 doesn't show My apps on the main screen and it is a single column on the main part of the screen.
3.1.5 Honeycomb vs 3.2.0 ICS markets on the Tab:
To be quite honest...I don't see how having different market versions really changes anything. Just get one that works and leave it at that. Every version is gonna have the same apps anyway..

True, although 3.1.5 offers a nice improvement in the form of portrait mode, a feature sorely missing from the original honeycomb market.
Just because an app is designed for ICS it doesn't mean that it is an improvement for Gingerbread/Honeycomb users.
Thanks was an accident btw

I only use my tab in landscape mode unless I'm on an app that doesnt support landscape. Market supports landscape, so thats where I am. So that update doesnt affect me personally at all. Others may like it though.
It's preference. To some people it doesn't matter - to some it does. So far the leaked ICS apps have been an improvement over the existing released versions.
For instance, the 4.0 Music app is an improvement to me over the 3.0 app. And the changes to Google+ in the ICS version are very nice and makes things better. Market, doesn't seem like much has changed except the icon but it DOES seem faster than the 3.1.5 or 3.1.6 versions out there now.
On my phone, Samsung Galaxy S II, these apps are working flawlessly. It's on my Tablet that they are force quitting.

Go Launcher EX update issues

Anyone else having problems with their homescreen after the recent update from Go Launcher EX? I am unable to change my icon size, and with my custom grid, it just doesn't seem to play well with it. It was working so well before the update
The settings menu seems to have increase the size of everything, especially the font.

Another update was released today which somewhat addresses this issue.
Setting the icon size to 48 doesn't seem to play nice, but 50 works and puts it at a comfortable size for me.

Even before receiving the update, I forced a reset and it seemed to fix it. Weird little glitch.

mido - wow, great phone. whats gains from replacing MIUI?

I usually put a new rom on a phone straight away! but i like this phone a lot in its current state with MIUI 8.2 Global. My only negatives are:
smart lock doesnt work with my smartwatch.
it seems to close apps too fast in the background.
i prefer a stock interface.
How are the other ROMS in comparison? Many positives and negatives? I'm torn between leaving MIUI on there / rooting and trying a few different ROMS....
is the stock camera better than generic play store cameras?
Thanks for your time

Stock camera is better.
You can replace the stock launcher with any launcher from the PlayStore like Nova Launcher to get a more Android like feeling.
MIUI RAM management really isn't great but you can disable it it developer options

You can put a new ROM in this phone too. AEX is the best for me. Try it.
As for your background apps closing problem - go to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver and turn it off. Then open Security > Permissions > Autostart and allow all apps to autostart. Then restart your phone. MIUI breaks push notifications for most apps with these settings so changing them will fix that issue too.

Is there a way to get back Nougat Icons on Oreo

Hey guys, I finally made the move upgrading to oreo but I really hate these new icons with that white stuff around it and so on. Is there a way to get back the original nougat theme on oreo? So far oreo is a bit smoother.. Let's see how it is with battery life but I guess it was not worth to upgrade it. Thanks in advance. Best whishes.
Long press on the home screen. this should open a list where you can choose home settings. Hope this helps a little
It was worth to upgrade to it. Trust me.
Find an icon pack you like the look of on the Play Store, use a launcher that works with them like Nova Launcher, and you're good to go.

Yeah I don't like nova that much. Would rather go with stock launcher.. Maybe I can found an original v20 Nougat theme on the web.. But yes, oreo is getting better and better. Actually I installed it bc I ordered my Sony xm3 few days ago and I wmama use LDAC. What other benefits do I have with oreo?

Yes found it finally. Worked for most of the items. Unfortunately the Google oreo icons like Chrome, Gmail etc are still surrounded with that ugly white stuff. But yes. 80% is good now. Thx mate

Apart from UI changes, what is new in Android 11?

Just got the Android 11 update on my T-Mobile V60. Are there any new useful features or improvements? All I'm seeing are UI changes that I don't particularly like.
DO NOT update to Android 11. I am having many problems since the update - hot phone, rapid battery discharge. I would hold off for now.
Working great for me. No complaints and like some of the new features. I did update, backup, and do a full factory reset though. Maybe try that?
I flashed the AT&T OTA and after a factory reset (and setting up my phone again like new), I haven't had any real issues. I'm pretty pleased with the update, so far. It's been a few days. I've had some issues with preferred third-party software not working properly (RIP Fluid Navigation Gestures), and have had to make a few adjustments here and there, but nothing that I wasn't expecting from a major OS point upgrade like this.
Here's a short list of Android 10 -> 11 changes I Googled up:
Message bubbles and 'priority' conversations. ...
Redesigned notifications. ...
New Power Menu with smart home controls. ...
New Media playback widget. ...
Resizable picture-in-picture window. ...
Screen recording. ...
Smart app suggestions. ...
New Recent apps screen.

I haven't fully explored everything, so I don't know if LG excluded or tweaked some. LG does incorporate their own UI, so it's bound to do a few things a little differently compared to stock Android.
