Tips and Recommendation. - Microsoft Surface Duo Questions & Answers

1) Use Edge browser. (Chrome scrolling is getting bad if on other screen Google Maps is open) (Activate AdBlock-Plus in a Edge settings, to remove annoying advertisement)
2) Use 3 buttons gestures (is more optimized for now, many glitches will disappear)
3) Don't keep icons on a secondary screen (on a right) (check the screen shot)
4) Remove lock screen. (Settings>security>screenlock>non). Make sense and no lug on unlocking
Please add your tricks to make this raw software lil better.

Oldies but goodies...
- Change animation speed to 0.5x
- Change density +/- to preference (in case everything is too small or not small enough)

[Q] Touchscreen tune settings and write app?

Could other users of Touchscreen tune please advise what settings they found to be optimal for them with the Prime.
Also I was wondering which writing app, once the screen has been tweaked, people have found to be better in responding/capturing their writing.
And while I'm on this vein, if there are any lefthanders and what they have done to get around the issue of your palm continually bumping the home/back etc buttons on the status bar when writing. I've not been able to find any app that can hide the status bar under ICS
These work good for me. I take notes often.
To get to the menu box that is open, go to the options on the top right.
As for notetaking apps, I use "Antipaper Notes", its good, you get a 5 page free trial then its a few bucks. The only downside is that registration is not through the market, and it isnt maintained if you wipe your system and restore it with Titanium, you'd have to email the developer.
Have a nice day
Here's the TouchScreenTune settings I use:
Minimum movement amount = 0
Disable movement filtering = not checked (when checked, writing was very squiggly for me)
Touch sensitivity = 25
Palm detection = 50
My favorite notetaking app is LectureNotes. It has a flexible zoom capability, which allows you to write in that zoomed mode, and combined with TouchScreenTune really picks up small movements of the stylus. The developer is very active and responsive in adding features, often by the next day after making a suggestion! Highly recommended!
Id suggest you to try quill, lecture notes ,writepad and antipaper. I tried them all and writepad is really smooth compared to the rest. Here are my settings for touchscreen tuner
And here is one of my notebooks ( my handwriting is not very good)

About system bar, writepad allows you to flip the app layout so system bar stays on top

continous scrolling?

How do I set up continuous scrolling ? I want to just scroll from one page of apps to the next without coming to the end and scrolling back. I know its probably in settings somewhere. Thanks
I'd like continuous scrolling of the homescreens and the app drawer, but there are no settings for this from what I've seen.
The Galaxy S 3 has them as continuous scrolling, but not the Note 2.
Only work around I can think of is to use a custom home screen/launcher app.

Magnification Gesture lagging

I need to use screen magnification, tried magnification gesture in accessibility, and it caused my phone to be so much lagging in general.
I tried Assistant menue, it contains a screen zoom feature, but it is not much helpful, takes a part of the screen and slow.
- Is there a way to change or cancel the Magnificaion 3 taps gesture so the device wouldn't be laggy, and change it with other way of turn it on/off and triger it by Tasker?
- Is there another application that does the same?
- Is there a solution?
:crying:

Navbar disappears when landscape

Can anyone confirm that it's not just me? M5 8.4 inch UK model (normally using Nova launcher) set display view mode to small (in order for some apps to see this as a tablet not phone) and on rotation to landscape the navigation bar/buttons disappear.
(Leaving on default and the navbar stays at the side on rotation - though I'd prefer it on the bottom.)
Using developer options to set dpi to 680 makes the navbar appear but with only the home button showing.
Huawei support suggest a factory reset, which I've already done to enforce the DRM change in the recent update, so doubt it would make any difference.
Surely is not just my tablet?

me too, the support told me to wait a future update...
I had what sounds like a somewhat similar issue using Nova Launcher and the 10 inch model. In landscape mode the nova dock would stay vertical on the right side instead of moving to the bottom, even if the screen orientation was set to auto-rotate in the nova settings / look and feel.
It was fixed by simply changing the View Mode setting to small in Settings / Display. Didn't have to mess with DPI manually or anything. With the View Mode to small I don't have any problems with the dock or the navigation bar.

Thanks, it's good to know that it's a general issue with the tablet.

This is probably just a side effect of the default DPI value, Nova treats the tablet as a phone, where it's normal to have the navbar on the side when in landscape. Switching display mode moves to a more compact DPI setting. Good to know that the navbar works, it suggests it's just an issue with the 8.4 that should get fixed.
For those annoyed by this, just wanted to mention that Ultimate Dynamic Navbar works, at least partially, if you are rooted (maybe even if you aren't). It's a navbar replacement that is fully customizable, fully collapsible, and will rotate with the device.
For me, I can't map home/recents/back functions to the softkeys - but a.) I haven't experimented, b.) the UDN softkeys can still be used to launch custom apps and for various other functions like switching to the "previous app," c.) the UDN navbar can be used in conjunction with your existing navbar setup, and d.) it's a lightweight app that is fully collapsible, so you have little to lose by installing it.
Known issue
This youtuber describes this exact issue amongst other issues:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qef...b3uy2lez3h4b2rhtpst1w03c010c.1526416319255488
Now fixed (at least partly) with firmware 8.0.0.151. When display size is set to small, the nav bar now stays visible on the short side, though I'd prefer it on the long side. Not a complete fix, in that when changing DPI in developer settings, it just shows the single home button on the long side.
The device offers you the option to use the fingerprint button for navigation. You can find the option at system settings / navigation

Disadvantages and My Questions About Pie OneUI on S9+

Hi, im using Pie on S9+ for some days and found some options has been removed/moved and some changes are really bad.
1) Did frameless icons option on Oreo has been remove in Pie? All icons are with frame at the moment. Is there any way to get rid of this frames without changing theme or icon set?
2) They changed Contacts app. I was able to set "Google+Phone+Profile Sharing" as "showed contacts", now they moved to left menu and can only select all or one account like Google. So they removed custom list feature on oreo.
3) recent apps section is bad. they should bring back old one (one under the other) as alternative like on goodluck 2018 app. it is good for sliding but needs to be improve.
4) If i use gestures as navigation, how can i open google assistant with home button (was holding to home button)
5) They removed to disable bixby button. but you can still disable bixby with adhell or notsabs. also new bixby is worse.
6) They should add sliding and animation between on system apps. for example "keypad, call history, contacts, places"
7) They removed location settings. We cant select "save battery, only gps, Now it is automatically gps+wifi+mobile networks or they hid and shouldn't i find?
8) i have gear s3 classic. there is a problem with bt connection, there is interruption on almost far rooms. it wasn't any problem before. if someone use gear, can u check? also "connected gear xxxx via bluetooth connection notification is too big. it was able to shrink as very thin in oreo.
9) there is a problem with enterprise wifi networks that needs certificates.
10) old font on aod, weather clock widget, app names was better in my opinion. some clone phones were using "new font" like font.
11) there is no schedule for night mode. this should be added.
12) they should add old full screen navigation as 3rd option.
13) if they move volume setting to right or left (you will able to select) it will be better for one ui.
14) i think new icons are worse. also they didnt change samsung music's icon.
15) peak schedule feature in samsung email isnt working for @hotmail.com emails as microsoft exchange. it's working on gmail or outlook. i know outlook and hotmail are same. but tried with lots of mails, they arent working for hotmail
16) i realized night mode is for all apps but got disappointed, it's for only system apps, so this is nice too. so continue with swift installer for black in all supported apps.
17) there is a blank between keyboard and the end of the screen. there was navigation bar on oreo but it looks strange on pie. maybe they should extend "move" option of keyboard.
18) still there is no option to import chrome passwords to samsung internet, or export/import samsung pass' data.
19) They moved game tools to notification area on games as unremovable.
19) they should bring back video button
advantages:
one ui is better for one hand usage.
they added "app info" to 3d touch (app shortcuts) back.
if u even disable rotating, if you use landscape in settings, a black hole will appear on the corner to rotate.
they added alternative option for aod to tap to show for 30 sec.
battery is almost same. little bit better.
system ram is about 500 mb, it was more than 1 gb (~900MB-1,2MB)
everything is rounded up.
4g+ video chat is now better.
i recommend backup everything and reset the phone if you are upgrading oreo to pie for better battery and lagless use.
some animations are better.
these are the things I can remember. of course you are free to agree or disagree with me. If you know my answers of my questions and have additional comments please write.
4) if we swipe up and hold, we get google assistant. Other ones are still exist.

1) if you find a way to disable the frame, it would be awesome to share it.
7) It's bullsh** indeed, the workaround is to use "ShortCutter" and its location toggle (you can choose between 4 modes).
17 made me going crazy so I installed gboard
I noticed that the multitasking mode sometimes is showing a weird animation showing for 0,1sec the apps in the app menu in the background

Question about icon Bluetooth :
When I activate Bluetooth and a device is connected, I have the Bluetooth logo that appears in the status bar on the home screen.
But : when I enable Bluetooth but no hardware is connected, the Bluetooth logo in the status bar of the home screen no longer appears, unlike version 8.0 Android.
As a result, if the Bluetooth remains activated, as the Bluetooth logo does not appear in the status bar, I no longer know if it is really activated or not. In concrete terms, if I don't use Bluetooth, I turn it off to hope for lower battery consumption, but since the logo no longer appears... you have to scan the screen down each time and check in the settings if Bluetooth has remained enabled or not: it's very annoying!
Does this function seem normal to you? (under 8.0, the Bluetooth logo appears as soon as it is activated, regardless of whether or not any equipment is connected).
I hope I've made myself understood, and thank you for letting me know if you see the same thing in yourself.
