Google camera Gcam modding for dummies? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm a GCam user, used it on my LG G4, LG G5, LG v20 and now Poco X3. Love it, but there is always something missing in all these ports. The white balance in better with one of them, it doesn't work with wide angle lens. Another port works with all lenses, but WB libs or sensor noise models do not match the sensor. Or there is simply no options to select a different library, etc.
So I wonder if there is a brief "how to mod an gcam" guide available, so may be I can have fun with tweaking another mod up to my taste. I do have some SW skills, plus an advanced degree at RTFM, so just a brief guidance would be sufficient (this is how to add a lens, this is how to add library, this is how to change sharpness algorithms or noise models).
Thanks

General camera quality?

Hi,
I would like to buy this phone. The camera quality is on the 1. place for me.
I have read many review but everybody is talking differently...
I currently own Gionee E7 with great 16MP OmniVision shooter and I am
really afraid to swap it...
So is that 21mp camera good or not comparing to etc. Samsug galaxy s6??
Could someone upload unedited photos somewhere?
How camera quality is related to ROM updates?
Thanks!
There's camera samples everywhere, the sony imx 230 is very good at daylight, but for low light it is very under saturated! Also pretty noisy.
I reccomend to buy LeMax2 if you aim to buy a powerful device at a relative low price.
Otherwise, if camera is your number one reason to buy a phone, you should skip this.
It has a good camera, and sometimes you can take really good shots with enough lighting, but comparison with Galaxy S6 and others top-of-the-line smartphones is unfair.
Moreover, ROM developers are struggling to get full functionality with the camera, unless they aren't original based ROMs, so you are limited to EUI as of now.
And to add something, LeMax2 sensor camera is the same as these devices:
LeTV One Max X900
Meizu PRO 6, PRO 5
Honor 7
Elephone Vowney, M3
Lenovo Vibe X3
Sony Xperia Z5, Z3+, M5
Motorola Moto X Force, Moto X Play, Moto X Style, Droid Turbo 2
Thank you Star_dust6 for great answer!
It seems I will skip this device because of camera...

You're welcome.
As for smartphones with a really good camera, you should aim for something like LG G5: is a little bit expensive (350 €), but worth every penny.

LG V30+ vs Huawei Mate 10 Pro

Which one do you recommend (camera, battery, screen, cpu vs)? But for me the most important is the camera performance. Please suggest one of them. I will open this thread both LG and Huawei forums. If this is forbidden, please remove one of them. Thank you in advance. Sorry for my bad english.

Well, we're going to say V30 because you have excellent stock camera or GCam port to choose from.
The Huawei guys are going to lie and say theirs is better.
Both phones are equal there's some small differences like headphone jack, resolution, no micro SD and CPU. Me personally I like different so Mate 10 for me. I have the V30 and the only thing that sucks is the selfie camera. for the mate 10 I don't like the monochrome camera I rather have the wide angle of the v30. Both UIs are not great to me I rather have stock.
I have Mate 10Pro, i am going to sell it as there is no custom ROMs, or if there are it is very easy to brick device. And wors of all there is no more bootloader unlocking ( my is unlocked ). Me too i want to change Mate 10 Pro, but what to buy V30+ Xiaomi mi mix2s or Mi8?
I had the mate 10 pro and loved it:battery is great and photos of objects/landscapes are really good too. I sent it back because photos of people looked like photos of wax statues.
I got the v30+ two weeks ago, there is root, custom roms, headphone jack and wireless charging. Also, having the wide angle camera is pretty cool.

can someone pls make a gcam app quickly

I've been using the normal inbuilt moto camera.... it's quite good with many features but I want to check the full potential of the camera with a gcam.it has camera2 support in my knowledge.
Please comment on the photo quality.
Also if it is a Samsung cam.
Any other comments would be welcome too

Is it possible to just use gcam apk's that are not made specifically for this phone? Does it need special code to use the popup camera?

Got working gcam 7.3 bro
https://drive.google.com/file/d/10sWZz2kVUEk2ZeIyz1yE7-N03P53kGYM/view?usp=drivesdk
GCam 7.3
The GCam 7.3 versions bring Astrophotography mode and better night sight mode to the Motorola One Fusion Plus along with other older features such as HDR+, Timelapse, portrait mode, etc. The available GCam port is compatible with Android 10.
The standard camera app working very well and the pictures are more than just very good.
Video defaults fully-zoomed in the viewfinder. Any solution?

All 4 cameras can work only if a gcam build is made specifically for this device. (But it's very unlikely all 4 lenses, specially the depth, to work well even so)
You can, though, have wide angle support when newer versions of gcam becomes available, as the newer pixels have wide-angle lenses.
I'd suggest you to stick to the latest stable builds as available.

Firstly, you're off topic with your display issues.
Secondly, it's the one fusion+ thread and not the g7.
Thirdly, how does "white dots on orange yellow surface" have to do anything with image persistence?
And lastly, gcam's image processing tends to have some colour artifacts, specially if it isn't built for the device on which you're using it on (more so if HDR+ is on). What you're talking about is probably the result of the same.
Please be on the proper thread and on topic next time

Thank you for helping me?. I totally forgotten that Gcam apk is from Pixel phones, and only newer Pixel XL phones have had 3 or 4 cameras dumb me xD.
I found some configuration file for my phone, and apply to Gcam from developer Nicki.
Maybe its reason because fusion plus is a newer phone and no developer is working for now, maybe in future will be supported. But for now offical update is far away. I hope that Android 11 will fix this software issue because it has great potential in camera hardware.

So what's the latest GCam version out there for this device? Please post the source topic.
For The Front Camera I Find Snap Chat Gives Better Quality than the Stock Camera App.
If Someone Develop GCam For This Phone, It will be Awesome.

There's no version of GCam available specifically for the device. As of now, there's a version based on Google Camera 7.2 for the pixel devices, which works fine on the one fusion+ (that's what I'm using atleast, do note video recording on the back camera seems broken in this version). You can get it from the main thread here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/google-camera-mods/gcam-google-pixel-1-2-3-t3875663
Also, there are other ports by other Devs. If you're interested check those out and see if it suits your needs.

Thanks for referring to the thread. Funny enough that's the one I used itself on my marlin to get astrophotography Lol. Nice to know it works well on the MOF+ as well.
But which other ports of GCam you mean exactly, I mean where to find them?

I want gcam

Question Is gCam and Google HDR+ two entirely different things and/or do they both work on this device?

Title says it all. I have already concluded that gCam is working so I need to know now if this very attractive HDR+-functionality within gCam works on this device? I would love to have some examples shots made with and without gCam and HDR+ if someone got something to show? If it's good I'll go and buy this phone soon.
Thank you guys! Cool forum by the way.
HDR+ is just the name of Google's implementation of image stacking (combining multiple shots into one photo, what all modern photos apps do). So HDR+ is the technology used within GCam.
If you use an app like the one described here for A52s:
G cam
There is any G cam available for Samsung galaxy A52s
forum.xda-developers.com
You even get two different implementations of HDR+ that you can switch between in the app:
- Regular "HDR+" which combines several underexposed (so too dark) photos into one.
- "HDR+ enhanced" which takes longer to take a shot, but as I understand then it will take pictures at different exposures (so one too dark, one too bright, and one just right) so that it can correctly display both bright and dark areas in the final photo.
For sample photos comparing the Samsung stock camera app and GCam on A52s, maybe I can just point you to my A52s user review. It's in Dutch, but you can just click on the pictures in it and the captions should be readable:

Beautifully answered, thank you!
Since I wrote this post I have decided to change my choice of phone the the Samsung flagship of 2019 the Galaxy s10. This one had other qualities than the a52 that I want more at this point. The only thing that concerns me is that it doesn't use Snapdragon which makes me believe I won't be able to use the gCam. But maybe there are better alternatives?
