Pro's and Cons of rooting Samsung Galaxy S9+ SM-G965U - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

So as I understand the SM-G965U is the only Verizon model that is CDMA and can be rooted.
I also understand that the bootloader is factory locked and cant be unlocked currently.
So as I understand it I cant load custom roms and I will be stuck with stock rom?
Is there a version that has bootloader factory unlocked and is CDMA capable?
So as I see I can root this model but with limitations such as
Cons
loss of finger print login
due to locked boot loader no customer roms only the stock rom?
loss of samsung pay and encrypted folder
loss of warrenty via tripped KNOX
Pro's
root access maybe some banking apps with Magisk
enable hot spot without monthly bribe to Verizon
any other pro's tips or gotchas I should know b 4 I buy this phone?

If you can not unlock the bootloader, which is the case. A limited root is not even worth the try...

[Question] Unlocked Bootloader

Does an unlocked bootloader lend itself to rooting your phone?
Also, is it possible to root with just ADB and SuperSU?

Depends on what phone you have, and what has been developed for it, but, for the most part, yes, unlocking the bootloader will at least enable you to root easily, and more.
Thanks for your answer!
Just to get it out there it's a Straight Talk ZTE Majesty Pro [Z799VL] and runs Android Marshmallow. I believe it was released back in March, so not much has been (or, probably, will be) done with it. Still, your answer gives me some hope.

Root and Bootloader Unlock

I have the unlocked version of this phone. I don't see anything about root or unlocking the bootloader? Really all I want is root so I can run Network Signal Guru...
Good morning,
unfortunatly I checked yesterday and wrote also to the dev... it is still not available from Official LG Web site.

Unlocked versions is about the carrier is unlocked meaning it doesn't have a carrier/plan locked with it. It doesn't mean it have an unlocked bootloader. If you really want a unlocked bootloader phone in 2020, get OnePlus or Xiaomi, they are more dev friendly.
Also, with LG's history of supporting developers, this will not likely to get unlocked bootloaders later.

I think Motorola is dev friendly too. My friend say they give everything to root her phones. ??
I don't think someone will find a way to root the LG phones after the V30 model. My old phone before my new G8x was the V30 and it was complex to root, so I don't know for the most recent models ??*
I downloaded Treble info from play store and this is what I get;

This doesn't mean it is rooted. It is probably used for LG to do Treble thing.

I know but it shows that systemless root could be used and GSI roms could be used if twrp and root can be achieved.

Yea, you are right. But you guys won't get unlcoks and root anyway because you know LG's history. But it is a possibility that LG might allow that 1-2 years later.
Can we unlock the bootloader on the G8x with this method?
https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
It seem that this tutorial from LG work with the LG G7. But, I wonder if it work on the most recent model.

You don't need network signal guru. There's some secret code that you can get from a simple google search to get into the secret field test menu. It gives all the network related info and let's you lock on to specific 4g bands as well.
LG supports G850EMW for G8X as well as V50s. I already received unlock.bin.
A bigger problem is extracting boot.img from the stock ROM. The latest LG KDZ Extract tool is from 2014 and doesn't handle the new DZ format.
Using the 'KSZ extractor for new format KDZs' by runningnak3d I could extract boot.img from a G850EMW20a ROM (Android 10). This will allow systemless root with Magisk.
Dec 15: rooted.

We do not spread false news, the warranty with the unlocking of the bootloader is NOT invalidated, Xiaomi allows the unlocking of the bootloader while maintaining the warranty, but if you break it modding with custom kernel / rom you will have to pay to fix it.

the warranty will not be invalidated, but if you create damage by modding you will have to pay to fix the device. Before sending it to service, simply remove twrp and install the original recovery.

Have you tried Odin to do the flashing? While not the same device, I have rooted my SM-A526B without TWRP by patching the boot image with Magisk and then copying over the patched boot.img file to a computer, then finally flashed it over using Odin.
I have played with TWRP and Odin in the past with other phones; But I don't feel comfortable experimenting with this phone since it's my only source of work right know. After the process is proved ok by other people with the exact same model as mine, I can't risk experimenting like I have done other times.

This won't work on Samsung "U" variant phones because of their locked bootloader. Once you modify boot.img with Magisk, the phone will automatically detect it as custom firmware and it won't allow it to be flashed because of locked BL.

Question Which one can be rooted (Urgent)?

I'm getting a pixel 6. I have 2 option 8/128 or 8/265. I want to root and install custom Rom. So which one should I get? Please help.
View attachment 5875467
Don't get Verizon
Can't unlock bootloader (ever) therefore can't install custom ROM
The storage capacity has nothing to do with rooting. If you don' need a ****-ton of room for video/music then 128gb is plenty. And yeah...Verizon Pixels are dead ends EVEN once they're paid off!
