Lg Stylo 6 unlock - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have a LG Stylo 6 from boost, And I have an unlock code. Issue is that my phone does not prompt for an unlock code and the phone is still pretty new so needless to say google is as useful as a car with no gas in this situation. How or where do I go in order to input the unlock code? BTW I think the U.S should be more the the EU and ban carriers from locking a device because now I probably have to throw out a perfectly good phone just because I moved to an area with no boost service what so ever.

allow me to add that yes I do have an unsupported SIM card in it right now and it should prompt for an unlock code, but it does not.

Since no one is helping with this useful post, I'll throw my 2¢.. you can force the unlock code using the dialer or tweaking the hidden menu.. but the simple method is to crossflash the unlocked version firmware.. all stylo 6 models have the same hardware.. do not use original lgup to crossflash.. use lgup dual mode made by one of our developers.. credits to him.. I'm terrible at remembering online names..

So I just received a LM-Q730TM10i as insurers replacement for my Stylo 5 junk from boost. immediately ice boxed updaters and locked on original software I believe came in new box. I'm all eyes and ears on this thread forgive me it's been a minute since I've lurked/ lived amongst XDA but I'm very interested and am all eyes and ears and I'll help if I can.. I believe this device is a great Improvement both the five and believe it may be worthy of such development.

Me and some others have been working on development. Personally, I'm pretty close to getting it carrier unlocked through LGUP and an unlocked firmware file. Others are discussing root and bootloader unlocking. Feel free to join us.

Closer, yes. Am I there? Totally not yet.
I'm currently gathering options and working out my own patches amongst learning about LAF, ARB, the OPID partition, and more. It will be some time, but when I do end up reverse engineering LGUP to meet our needs, it should be something significant for more than just the Stylo 6 community; ideally, it should make a big difference for the LG community as a whole.
Please see the post in this thread for the Discord link.

You have to enter a code in the stock lg dialer. It will bring you to the unlock menu. Do a web search for it. I believe it begins with 2945#* and then the model number. For example, my stylo 5 is a q720, so 2945#*720.

So I was a bit curious And you made p.m. me if necessary as to how you obtained an unlock code I was told by Boost that the new phone did not carry a code or is not Able to be entered Or was not necessary or something along these lines . And said it had to be done remotely / manufacturer and Provider . Thus I continued to have mine unlocked and yes it was unlocked remotely

Dear Richard,
Thank you for your support to htc. We hear your concern. And we take it seriously and now we will unlock it.
Our original intent was to reduce the potential quality problem when user upgrade their phone.
Any way we will unlock it. Customer satisfaction is very important for us and we want you have a good experience when you deal with htc.
Thanks again for your support.
Best Regards.

Just a minor note. The e-mail says "it". This is the first indication that they intend to unlock the EVO 3D (assuming your e-mail was about the 3D), as opposed to "future HTC releases" that don't inlcude the impending ones.
Thats excellent news!

Yes it was about the EVO 3D. I told them I was really excited for it, but if they were going to lock the bootloader then I wasnt going to buy it.

This is great news. The engadget and other posts on the original message made it sound like the Evo may not be included.

What do you expect. For all the emails received does he need to make them all more personal to make you happy. I just don't get the reason why certain people seem so ungrateful. Maybe that is not your intent, but thats how it comes across to me and your not the only one so I just don't understand. Enlighten me if I seem out of place here.

You do seem a little out of place here. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?
If you read HTC's post saying going forward they will not lock the bootloaders but, since the EVO 3d is due to release pretty soon it sounded unsure if that would fall under that umbrella or if they are saying there next lines of phones.
People just want to be certain before they lay their money down and there os nothing wrong with that. Don't see how that is ungrateful. People will be extremely greatful if the EVO 3d is unlocked.
Great news homies

The EVO 4G didn't have the same type of bootloader protection, that's why we were able to root it.
So I will still have to root my phone myself for super user access. Sigh.
The only good news is others will already have super user access without having to root? Or just that they can root to get it?
Normally I am not short bus. I am just trying to be sure I understood.

I would be very surprised if it didn't. It's a brand new super-high tech top of the line device.
EDIT: bearing in mind that i have no idea what any of the classes specify. I know it deals with speed...that's all.

super user access aka root aka su, is to powerful to be available to the average user, one thing I lament with Android is, as much as I adore it bringing Linux to the masses, the standard users don't understand the cardinal rules of a Linux operating system. Root is like a user account on your PC, you only use it when you have to do something low level to the system temporarily, otherwise you can easily damage your phones system. This is why you see the root apps ask for then release superuser privileges. So no phone ever will come with root default. Its to powerful unless you know what to do with it. Plus it induces a serious security hole. Think about it this way, you root long enough to flash or run setcpu, then you return to your standard "non-administrator" account.

Carrier IQ, is it in any of the Vibrant roms?

Have you guys been following the drama with Carrier IQ?

When this broke a couple of weeks ago, the original article pointed to just Sprint..
As you might know already ,Sprint has openly admitted that they share their customers info with the government ... so this would go hand in hand with this tracking software .... Don't be surprised if its found in the Sprint IPhone ... So the short answer, no ..

Yeah, I heard about that Carrier IQ. Pretty messed up stuff.
Also to enable YouTube videos you only copy a certain chunk of the URL. For example if the video's URL is "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjL-xE_6avY" you only copy the part after the "=" sign. Which in the example URL's case would be "QjL-xE_6avY". Once you've copied that part of the URL paste it into the message box, highlight it, and then hit the YouTube button (

Actually all data you access on T-Mobile also goes through the government, not just Sprint. If you don't believe me, find out your IP addy on your phone. Then go do a whois IP search. You will see it is being routed through the DOJ.

Be sure to hit TrevE's thanks button, as the mastermind who is rooting this out for the masses and taking heat for making his finding public.
I have run his app, listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17612559&postcount=110 (oh yeah, spend a dollar in the market to support this guy, and buy the pro key for the app) and the checks come back that Carrier IQ is not in ZD. I am not 100% satisfied with the result, but it puts me more at ease than I was after first reading about CIQ. I am going to continue digging into it until I am satisfied of either its presence or absence from ZD.
I have followed other information from the original thread listed above, and have found some logs, but nothing seeming to contain keystroke records.
I am interested if anyone else has been testing this out with ZD, and what your results/determinations have been. I do not think that anything in ZD is logging keystrokes, but since this is built from Samsung source, and both Sammy and Tmo are included with the other dirty birds that are in fact using CIQ in their software, I am not 100% satisfied that its not, so if anyone has any further info or want to compare notes with this chef, I will gladly collaborate efforts to rid ZD of this, if it is in fact found.

Try system/CSC/features.xml EDIT: This might not be what you're looking for, but it's something. Sorry I guess I was wrong in saying that it can be enabled by a csc edit.
Change it to this:

If they know how to root it, they can in 2 minutes. Just boot into the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, flash a custom rom, and presto, you're in. If you're already rooted, well, that just makes it laughably easy. Apple's approach is the only really secure one.
I think assuming that a thief would have any understanding of rooting or flashing custom bootloaders would be a little over the top. Out of every single human being that I know only 2 know how to root a phone.

fffft said:
I'm thinking that the part in bold could be your snag.
Seriously though, some carriers are enabling this and some are not. A serious flaw as universal availability of the feature would make it infinitely more effective.
You can enable it yourself by availing yourself to a custom ROM or by editing the properties XML. Once enabled, the menu shows up under Settings > General > Security

This misses an important point. It doesn't matter a lot how many people in the general populace know how to root a phone in front of them. If a security feature like reactivation lock is to be a strong deterrent to theft, it needs to be highly secure where no one or damn near no one is able to defeat it. It's not sufficient that it's hard to do. It only takes one electronic wiz in a city who is willing to unlock phones of shady origin to establish a strong local demand for stolen phones.
A thief doesn't need to have any technical skills. Word will quickly get around about the shady repair shop or fence that can fix them or is willing to buy stolen phones because he knows where they can be unlocked. For this to work as an effective deterrent, stolen phones need to be rendered paperweights that cannot be unlocked without heroic measures.
.

All it takes is them googling "how to bypass samsung activation lock" and they're in. Probably shouldn't have put this up

Okay and for the dozens of other samsung phones that have locked bootloaders it works perfectly fine for. So the only exploitable phones are ones with unlockable bootloaders. The rest are safe,

fffft said:
Uh no, Or at least you don't provide any evidence to support that thesis. The exploit that I've seen does not depend on the bootloader.

And how exactly will you flash a custom recovery without unlocking the bootloader?

Sigh. One, you seem a bit off topic. And two, I am not going to post an explanation of how to defeat a core security feature. If you have a lot of curiosity you will have to do your own search. And I'd hope that you'd refrain from reposting that kind of information too.

You know what I don't care, I can't even believe I was baited into this useless argument. The fact remains is that the feature is at least semi functional and a DETERRENT to criminals. Nothing is fool proof. You can have the best car alarm in the world and someone can roll up with a tow truck and take off with it. The point is to make it harder for thieves to get away with it and thats all Im looking for. .

wear 24 boosting development

Hello there I'm an avid android user rooting and roms. I wanted to ask everyone about how we can grow a community for verizon wewr 24 smart watch. Given the price $80 I think it's the best bang for the bucks as every other watch is north of 200. Wanted to know how I could make that happen. Coz with custom rom unlocked bootloader this thing could be a beast !!
Well I bought one, and I can second the fact that I would be interested in using a custom rom. However what you need is someone who can actually get into the nuts and bolts, to buy one and feel like if they put time into doing that work, that there would be a big enough audience that it would be worth it. There has to be at least a decent sized audience, then you might get a second wave of buys from this community if people see progress. So I think step one, show that an audience of users that want a custom rom on the Wear24 exists.
I also have some interest. I'd be willing to help, but I'm not really sure where to start. I know that with phones Verizon has locked the bootloader and made it tough to get root. I wonder if that is the case with the watch also.
I'm also super interested, mainly to enable NFC (for Android Pay, which seems to be a problem for rooted phones) and LTE on other networks. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive in the UK, it's currently stuck at ebay's Global Shipping Center for more than 4 days. I don't know the first thing about developing a root or custom rom, but I'll try to learn.
Hey guys,
I am also interested in development for this watch, I've kept it on wear v1.5 for now, since I enjoy using it for the mic from time to time, and have disabled cellular and the sim, and am getting around 3 days of consistent battery life with light use, always on screen, and motion wake. Some issues I am having - besides the annoyingly persistent update available notification, is that phone calls from my contacts come in on the watch, but unknown calls don't notify me. Additionally, using ok google to text works but the watch still displays an error and to do it on the phone.
Adb seems to require a rooted watch to disable the vzn messages+ or the update notification - as it kept giving me errors, but maybe someone else can figure that out. I also tried the command oem unlock with no luck, as I couldn't get the watch to accept adb commands in recovery.
My recovery mode lists the watch as dorado v1.21.
Any suggestions/advice?
I also just purchased one. They are now on sale for 50$. I would be willing to toss an additional 50$ to the first developer that could get a clean running android wear port running. And enable the NFC. I am not a verizon customer, nor do i have any intention of ever activation the LTE on a watch.
I too jumped on the $50 price tag in hopes of root and custom ROM at some point in the near future. Would be cool to make this thing as good as it could be instead of the gutted version Verizon tried to sell us.
Same here , got one for $50 today. hoping to find port a clean 2.0 rom. Willing to help.
Got one for $50 today as well.
Perhaps we find a developer and buy them a watch
Another new guy here as of my order today.
Definitely interested in a clean wear 2.0 ROM, and happy to test - watch was an impulse buy due to price, so willing to risk bricks.
Same here guys. Been on the fence for months about buying a smartwatch. I wanted one like Fossil or Movado (super pricey), but in no way could justify the pricing, especially with missing features like Android Pay and not even having Wear 3.0.
At $50, I don't care about missing features now!
Where can I find the 2.7 update or any custom wear rom?
I had one of these watches when they first launched. I returned it because of the vzw crap they put on it. I don't like Verizon messages app and it really wants you to use it. I would buy one again and also throw in $50 to anyone willing to get root and work a custom ROM for it. I have rooted all of my previous Android phones before the pixel XL and would love to root this watch to get rid of vzw apps and just run what I want with better functionality! If anyone is interested please let us know!
Also picked up the $50 watch and would love to have a clean watch as well. NFC payment would be a plus but mostly want to get all the junk off this watch.
Has anyone had any success with contacting verizon to get them to release the GPL source code ?
I think that would be the best place to start.
Find some contact info. and start bombarding them en mass with requests.

Isn't this just a white-label device? If so, would we target Verizon for GPL or the actual manufacturer, Quanta Computer?
id increase the bounty, $25 from me to a dev who can get NFC working and extra LTE band support
Found this interesting. In a verizon promo video it has the android pay app on the watch. I won't get mine until next week. Is this app on there but doesn't work?

I started setting up a gofundme... But lost interest, to much work to set one up. I thing a 15-20$ buy in would raise quite a bit of money for a developer

I don't care about LTE, but I'm in for $20 for NFC functional with Android pay.

I've had the V30 since launch and am looking hard at the V60. I've never owned a Samsung, but also considering the S20.
I currently have a Note9 as my main device and a Mate 10 Pro as a back up. This is because I really like using a desktop mode on my device. Now LG have implemented a version they come into my sights as a viable option. And the V60 looks to be an awesome option. The second screen looks genuinely useful as well.
I'm considering the V60 as my next option. I'm on a Moto Z Play with a cracked screen so I've been looking for something to upgrade to for quite some time. The V60 checks all the boxes I need:
good sized battery
good screen
good connectivity
good audio
good features
I probably won't use the dual screen accessory often. If they price the V60 right, it will be an instant buy for me.
Depends on whether I can remap the STUPID assistant button or not. If I cannot remap it, then absolutely NO! Turning it off is not good enough. If it is there I want it to do something, but I never use these useless assistants at all!
I'm extremely tempted.. after ordering my s20 Ultra 3 weeks ago and coupled by the fact that I am still awaiting it to ship I'm about to cancel my order and await for this to officially drop.

I'll probably think about getting one because I'm not satisfied with my LG G8 battery life. It's kinda bad. Probably a bad unit, I know most people are getting decent battery life.
Although the V60 will probably be too big for me. Owned a 6.4" phone in the past and it was big, but 6.8"? Damn lol

Did a live chat with LG tech support yesterday to ask whether the STUPID dedicated Google Assistant button could be remapped to anything more useful...The answer was NO. So I told the tech to forward my decision to those who make such decisions that they lost a sale. I hate useless features that cannot be disabled, uninstalled, or especially for a hardware button...cannot be remapped to something else. Their loss...many more fish in the sea! Looking at the new Sony Xperia 1 Mark 2. Meh
Ordered mine first thing this morning. Glad I did because AT&T is now out of stock already lol. Can't wait to come back to LG after having an iPhone for 2 years. I still use my V20 for things my iPhone can't do. I shouldn't need a supplementary phone if I paid $1k.
Lol I got mine

I've found that the tech support people are often very limited in the understanding of what can and can't be done on devices they support. I've ordered one, and I'll let you know what I can find out.

I look forward to hearing from you on the remapping issue. I have done a great deal of searching for answers to my question with several different LG devices that have the button incorporated into the hardware and the answer is always a big fat NO to LG allowing a remap of the Google Assistant button. I have read about a few work around's or 3rd party apps that partially work, and then there are those who say the work around's do NOT work for them...so it appears to be hit-and-miss. Some have surmised that it is Google that doesn't allow this to take place. If that is so then Google must be paying a tidy sum to LG and other OEM's that include the button in their devices. This to me is the epitome of arrogance to think that people want their useless crap forced on them when paying major money for a cell phone. I will be sure to spend my money elsewhere. For LG to agree to a $$$$ contract with Google for something like this will not bale them out of bankruptcy should this phone fail...in fact...it may lead directly to the very failure they're trying to avoid. So sad!

Will you keep the phone in the dual screen housing 24/7? If not, what are you looking at for cases?
Unlocked carrier available yet?

Thanks for the link. Is that just for ATT? Verizon starts taking order March 26.
