USE Old Android phone as portable speaker receiver - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I have a old Asus Zenfone 5, and i was wondering if there is a way to use that phone as a Bluetooth receiver for a portable speaker.
I have been searching but i couldn't find any thing regarding this.
The plan is to use the phone's Bluetooth( no external hw bt module ) as a Bluetooth receiver and use the display like in android auto. ( Simply show and use the functions like = Album art, Next, pause, Previous ,seeking, other usual player features ).
also i searched for rom/ system image which is of a player like :
1, Sony Walkman
because this Walkman is running Android OS and i wondered if there is a modified or ported rom like this available ( the phone doesn't support project treble, and i don't mind if some things like RIL, Camera, don't work by using ANY Compactible rom or method for this purpose, Only BT and WIFI are wanted )
2, JBL LINK VIEW
The JBL does more functions than i require but this i what i'm trying to make ( But less ugly than JBL :silly
i already have battery for amplifier, and main amp, speakers, i now only need to do something about the phone
,Thanks for the helps in advance

Android as a2dp bluebooth receiver?

I know its possible to send audio from an Android phone via bluetooth to a PC using the a2dp profile. But I want to do it the other way. Connect the phone to my amplifier and send audio via bluetooth a2dp from my laptop.
I've searched but not found. Anyone know it it's possible?
I think the standard BlueZ stack can't do this. I think the Broadcom BTLA stack might be able to do this ... IF you have the Broadcom Bluetooth chip inside.
Hi Pananza,
did you have success to use an android device as a2dp receiver? I'm looking for a solution but I didn't find anything useful.
The only solution that I have found is to use the NDK to access the BlueZ stack, but I'm not sure if this is the right way.
Thanks

Using phone as A2DP receiver
Hello
I would like to do this too, have a Sony MW600, and it works perfect with laptop or my HTC Desire, but it can not be charged and used at the same time..
Will it be possible to do this on an Android that is not rooted?
Did anything ever come of this? I'm looking for an app that would allow android to receive bluetooth a2dp or whatever the basic format is (mono ok), and output audio on the headphone jack of the phone. Bass ackwards to what all other apps i've found are doing. I've always been a "special needs" user

any update on this?
Wanting to use Android OS in the dash of my vehicle hooked to the audio system and use bluetooth a2dp to connect to mobile phones to play media through the system.
I'm looking for a similar setup. Has anyone found a way to turn android into an a2dp receiver?

You can transform your device into a wifi music receiver with the app called soundwire, you must install a server on your pc to stream audio from your pc to your android device. I didn't find anything with bluetooth.

Same here. More and more people are going to have "last years" android phone lying around doing nothing and this would be an awesome way to re-purpose it.
Whether it uses BT, Wifi, I don't care as long as I can stream audio from one android phone to another. What I don't want is to deal with DLNA or manufacturer built in BS. Just need google to turn on the A2DP sink profile and be done with it. The hardware is all there, just need the software to take advantage.
The next best thing is one of those BT reciever dongles/boxes. They run about $20 I think. So PSA to android developers - if you can enable this in a paid app I'm ready to buy it and I'll bet a lot of others are as well.

Did that tutorial works for you?
I've tried, but it doesn't work. My Panasonic TV doesn't see my phone, so I cannot play the TV audio thru my phone.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I was also looking for an app like this.
For my old phones, my android sticks, ... no progress I assume ?
Waiting the same here! My idea is to buy a bluetooth transmitter, connect it to my TV and receive the audio on my phone.
I can't think that is not possible! :crying::crying:
Truck Tablet Install
Hey Everyone,
Been very curious about this as well as I'm going to do a nexus 7 install in my truck and want to be able to bluetooth additional music aside from what is on the tablet through the tablet to my speakers. Kind of a necessity due to the lack of a 3.5mm aux into the stereo. Hopefully we can figure this out!
n00b
?
I'm also looking to do this.
I'd like to be able to connect a Bluetooth transmitter to the output of a mixing desk, and then just use my phone to receive the audio (which I'd then want to save with something like tapeatalk).
This could provide a very quick method of recording gigs or DJ sets in stereo, and would be better quality than simply using the built in mic of your phone.
a2dp sink.
Bluetooth File transfer app can stream music from another phone. And this is where tha first phone works as a a2dp sink am I right? Can't we use that to built an app to follow it but using pc/laptop as the source?
Seems, that no one is interested. What a pitty, it could be really HOT stuff. For example, cheap android phone pluged instantly to a charger and to Car Audio via AUX, and You have got Bluetooth automatic pairing system for calling and music, navi etc.
Unfortunately I couldn't find solution for this, neither the app. It is strange. Some people says, that Android can not be a sink (reciever) in a2dp profile. So how does microphones from earphones are streaming audio to a phone, hmm?
Maybe someone will do it
I have a LG G3 and it does it flawlessly. It have a function called "Turn Audio Channel mode" on bluetooth settings.
I'm wondering how to do the same thing on any other andoird phones.

Bluetooth Remote To Control An Android Phone

Hello, i've done a quick search on the forum here for what i'm looking for but all the posts are old and everyone seemed completely clueless at the time so maybe someone will have an answer now.
I have an LG Ally which is running Android 2.22 if I recall correctly. I currently have a setup so that I plug my phone into my stereo through AUX so I can use my phone to play music, and as a GPS when needed. I use the Music system that's built into android phone, but when i'm driving it's very hard to change the songs and still drive. I know they make bluetooth headphone that allow you to pause, skip, etc so there must be a bluetooth remote control that I can pair to my phone so I don't have to take my eyes off the road in order to change a song.
To make this clear, I am NOT looking for an app, nor am I trying to turn my phone into a remote control. I can't stress this enough, because a lot of posts I read while looking into this a lot of people where getting confused and thinking the person wanted to use their phone as a remote and this is not the case.
I would greatly appreciate some help finding something that would work, since i've not seemed to be able to find anything.
Sony Liveview
Check out the Sony Liveview to use as a bluetooth remote for you android based phones.
I would post a link but since i am a new member it will not let me so just google Sony liveview
Sony Smartwatch
Looks like the Sony Liveview is the older version so may want to look at the newer Sony SmartWatch
Maybe a Bluetooth game controller? Probably still need a helper app.
Not yet
I'm looking for the same exact thing, looks like it is such a small market that there are no products to suit the need.
There is a remote called Satechi BT Media remote that is compatible with iPhones.
If it works like like a Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, media functions should work with Galaxy Note, but I don't know about LG. Every company use different Bluetooth stack.

So i know this thread is a little old and i realize this doesnt directly help the OP, but could an IR remote, plugged into a USB host like a moto dock or one of those cables that enables the host command through the mini usb port possibly work? I suppose youd still need some sort of software to control the function...
I was thinking about this the other day when i had my phone attached hdmi to the tv, watching netflix. Once the episode was over, id have to get up and pick something else. A remote or a bt mouse might be a decent solution, but a mouse isnt very sexy as youd have to move around and click, as opposed to just using a directional pad or an arrow key.

I was looking for exactly the same thing, for the same purpose.
I wasn't aware of the bluetooth HID protocol until now and hence I was thinking about a different solution:
I thought about using a bluetooth headset for media control as these often include all the media control buttons.
However I only wanted to use the media buttons of the bluetooth headset while I was playing music through the headphone jack in my car.
Therefore I was seeking for a solution to connect the bluetooth headset in a way that its buttons can be used for media control but no music would be streamed to the headset or could be muted.
I think it's possible but some android hacking might be involved.
But that's a thing of the past with this new Satechi Bluetooth Remote, the amazon sales description states that Android devices are supported as long as they support Bluetooth HID. The customer review section also includes a guy who succesfully paired the Satechi with his Galaxy III.
The Satechi was introduced a couple of months ago so maybe other manufacturers will introduce similar and cheaper devices.
If your Android OS supports Bluetooth HID you can also use some Bluetooth HID devices which are advertised to work with iOS only (ie Apple Bluetooth Keyboard).

So this is a pretty old thread but Motorola has a product called the RZ100 which should fit the bill nicely. I use it for my GS3 (I travel quite a bit, so gs3 + HDMI out adapter + this remote = bliss) and it works without issues. The only thing I would like is an app that allows remapping the buttons on it (Ahem Android developpers...)

Thank you so much.
I'm using my Sensation with a Harman Kardon Go+Play and therefore had the same problem as OP.
I read your post and realized that I already own a Logilink BT0019 for other purposes.
I paired it and voilá, the music plays via the Harman Kardon, but the BT0019 media buttons still work.
Only Play/Pause and Next/Previous Song though because the sound level Buttons only change the Headsets volume which means that I do now need two remotes (the BT0019 +the provided Harman Kardon Remote for volume control.) but okay, cool.
I got the BT0019 for 22€, so it's a decently low priced solution too, even if I would not need the Headset for other purposes.
I know it's not bluetooth but the Mele F10 air mouse can do the trick via USB OTG.
I'm looking for a similar solution to control the media playing on an Android tablet for my daughter while on road trips. We have a Nexus 10 currently and will probably be getting a Nexus 7/Kindle Fire HD/Nook HD+ soley for her uses. Are there any android apps that might also achieve this using bluetooth? If I could control the media on the tablet using my Galaxy Nexus phone, that would be even better.
I succesfully managed to get what the OP asked for with an old TomTom bluetooth remote like this one (www ebay com/itm/331084156246) thanks to the informations provided by Norvan Gorgi at norvangorgi blogspot it/2011/10/using-tomtom-bluetooth-remote-with.html (insert dots as required ), and it worked brilliantly with both my SGS3 and my first gen Galaxy Note.
Basically, the remote is recognized as an external keyboard, so all you need is to remap its keys (the tomtom remote has 10 buttons) according to your needs, as per the instruction provided by Norvan in his blog.
Thing is, this stopped working when I installed CyanogenMod 10.2 on both my mobiles, appearently because android 4.3 now does not recognizes the remote as a keyboard anymore, but rather as an 'input device', ie with a nice 'joystick' icon next to it (and my own keyboard definition files won't work anymore).
Anyway, once paired with a 4.3 device the four directional keys and the central 'ok' one will sitll work, so it might still prove useful for someone, even if it does not have proper 'direct' media functions as it would have when set up as a keyboard.
Satechi Remote Control
I recently purchased the Satechi remote control because even though it says its specifically made for iOS, people in the reviews said it works on android and also because it works on 3rd party applications like spotify.
I have two Samsung devices, my phone which is Samsung Galaxy Note II and a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 which is just used to download my spotify playlist for the car. since the Galaxy Player 4.2 only has 512mb of ram its really annoying when i want to change song, very slow and I realised I pay a lot of attention to the device while driving and that isnt good!
so I bought the remote thinking it would help. now the problem is it doesnt connect to android devices because it requires bluetooth HID, according to a few posts found on this website and a few others, I downloaded bluetooth keyboard easy connect and on my phone it worked fine. however on my galaxy player it didnt work. it just keeps TRYING to connect, the device is running 2.3.6.
my question is, is there any other application i can use or anything I can do to use this remote on my mp3 player?
I realize this thread is very old but I found this thread searching for the exact same thing. I have not ordered this yet, but the Amazon reviews seem to suggest this item is exactly what I have been looking for!
Amazon link
Any current suggestions?
Do remotes just work as a HID keyboard or keyboard-mouse combo?

[Q] Audio Player with Remote Control Support

Hi all,
I do have an unused Xperia X8 which would perfectly fit as an extension for my HiFi.
Now I am searching for a software which makes this possible
The X8 should be plugged to the HiFi using a normal stereo jack and should provide the music to the HiFi.
The music should be stored on a network share or/and on the MicroSD card - and in some rare cases on some cloud service.
To find a player which is supporting these things is not a problem - but I do not want to get up every now and then to change music or to skip to the next track or change my playlist.
We do have other Android devices lying around as well incl. a tablet
So is there a way to control another Android Device which acts as a music player - from another Android device or PC to change music, to skip songs and so on ?!
If you are on PC - that is easy - you get a Web Interface for nearly every piece of software but hey - what about the android eco system - how they play together ?!
no ideas to get my old unused android usable again as audio hub for my hifi ?!
thanks

[Q] Road Veles Android car stereo add bluetooth support?

Hello all,
I'm after a little bit of guidance on how I might add Bluetooth support to an Android powered Car stereo. It is a "Road Veles" single DIN WinCE and Android device with a 7" flip out screen. The reason I bought this stereo is to run an app by the name of MSDroid. This app was to connect to my vehicle's engine management system via Bluetooth.
Can't post links yet, easy search on Google for Road Veles, look for hit on Chinavasion
The specs say it has Bluetooth, but having tested the device out on the work bench what the specs don't say is that the bluetooth is only accessible for handsfree from WinCE, there is no bluetooth for Android. WiFi via USB dongle works great. I have purchased but not yet received a combined WiFi and Bluetooth dongle. I would very much like to have this combined dongle work with the device. The Bluetooth control is not visible under WiFi control inside settings like it is in my Android phone.
Can anybody point me in the direction of where to start with this? Can I root the device and mod to add bluetooth? Is there another ROM I could run? I have done a lot of searching but can't see much at all out in internet land on this stereo!
Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance,
Arran
Hi, I'm not sure how these sort of things usually work, what sort of dollar value would usually be associated with making a some tweaks to an Android build? ...
Hi again, still looking into this. Any ideas how to tweak the Android 4.0.4 OS to make bluetooth appear inside the settings menu?

Android Box for use in Car

Hello devs,
i don´t know if this is the right spot to place my thread, xda´s forum is too big.
Here is what i am searching for.
I have a car from ´99, german overengeneered, but the Stereo (nowdays) is horroble, to say at least.
There is no p&p aftermarket stereo for my car.
Since i have installed succesfully a KANOR / XTRONs MCDB? Headunit on my 04 Honda,
i would love to run android somehow on my ´99 Merc.
So i came with the idea, to install or hook-up a (modified) TV Box to it.
There should be an option to connect it to the speakers, as i did with an external BT device.
Is there ANY (not only AMLogic) TV Box, where a custom RoM can be installed, so that i can use it as a Media Player?
I just really want to use it for navigation and music, sounds simple so far.
The TV-Box should be able to / shoud be
navigate through (external) GPS (Device)
boot fast (under 30s)
equipped wtih an internal BT Chip
integrated FM Radio player
HDMI / AV Out
Sorry for my bad english, hope you guys understood my problem and can help me out somehow.
Regads and thank you in advance
