Getting 5g on a Taiwanese s20+ - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live in the UK. I imported a Taiwanese s20+ 5G. Model number SM-G9860
5G will not work. It is enabled from my carrier and they have been through troubleshooting, sent a new sim, i have gone to places with good 5g coverage, so on.
I checked the update notes for the device and found it said this in the June update.
5G has been enabled.
※ Requires optimal 5G connection. 5G services are only supported in Taiwan network. Actual 5G network coverage and speed may vary on region and network service provider, since 5G international roaming service of the designated countries and areas will be supported and announced after they pass the network service provider’s verification test.

Does this mean 5G will be enabled internationally at a future unknown date?
Is it possible to flash another snapdragon rom, maybe Hong Kong (same model number) or USA (different model number) and have it enabled? The US version doesn't seem to have the above quote in the patch notes. Or am I out of luck with this device?

(UK) Samsung Note 20 5G N9810 - Problems with 5G on EE

Hello all!
I bought a Note 20 5G N9810 to replace my aging Note 9. The N9810 is the Open China/Hong Kong version with SD865 and 265GB, as opposed to the Exynos model available in the UK.
Phone works great, battery lasts easily a whole day of heavy use. VoLTE and VoWiFi work fine with EE's network.
I have not been able to connect to 5G though. While the phones comes with N1, N41, N78 and N79 bands it doesn't seem to work on EE's network - which uses N78 bands.
I called EE customer care and they advised that since it has the correct 5G bands it should work and they couldn't identify the issue.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

No 5G on 5G ready SIMs in 5G locations. Tested both Three and EE in Glasgow and Edinburgh UK
Did you buy it from wondamobile?

N10 not detecting 5G networks

Hi,
There are 3 carriers offering 5G in my city at the moment, which are using bands that N10 supports, but it's not connecting with 5G and when I search manually, it shows only networks up to 4G. The phone is updated.
Which version? EU or NA ? And does your provider have 5G?
Have same issue with NA version in Germany. with *#*#4636#*#* you can enable "NR network" which is 5G. but not in normal settings - typing 5G in setting search does show some additional settings that are invisible - i suspect it might be disabled and i don't have 5G provider anyways.
EU version (BE2029). It turns out that NR is enabled by default.
Now I realized that for some reason I have NA ROM 10.5.9 BE86AA instead of 10.5.9.BE89BA one.
Flashing the EU ROM did not help.

What did you flash? Boot image or cross-flash with msm download tool?
I did a 'full OTA' update through system app using update file from this article https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-nord-n10-5g-oxygenos-10-5-9/
I have tested again with a new 5G enabled SIM and everything works as expected - Obviously the system disables the 5G settings without a fitting SIM. This was with T-Mobile Germany.
ROM is 10.5.9 BE86

No issues with NA version on US TMO with the correct SIM.
I have 5g working in USA on Visible (Verizon). I had to enable NR in the *#*#4636#*#* settings. It's resets after reboot unfortunately. Hopefully an update will allow us to select 5g from the normal settings menu. A but disappointed this phone didn't come with that option already enabled.

Spoke to soon - 5g works, but about 30% slower then my 8pro. Also doesn't connect is weak places the other one does ??
Mine works great on TMobile USA 5G. I did try an Unreal SIm (AT&T) and it does not get 5G, the setting for Preferred Network Type drops the 5G all together as an option.
I was wondering if the Canadian version is the US or International version? They have different 5G bands.

Probably - so does international. You should get the detailed lists of bands for both phones and compare them to your carrier's bands.
I almost made a huge mistake of buying another of their "global" phones from China, but when I checked their bands, it was missing some US 5g and LTE bands.

LG V60 5G network

Dear,
Apologies if I put the topic in the wrong place. I bought the LG V60 in a European web shop. (alza shop) But the problem arises with the 5G network the device simply does not have the option "5G network mode" There is only automatic and 2G 3G and LTE. I contacted LG myself and got the following answer.
"There are technical dependences here. These dependencies are different per country.
The V60 is 5G capable (for a limited number of bands though) but it does not work for all providers in all countries.
This depends on the V60 suffix as well. If 5G could not be fully tested for a specific provider it is sometimes switch off in software.
In the Netherlands for example 5G on V60 only works for the KPN provider at the moment (Android 10).
If you put in a different SIM card (so not KPN) the device will not show the 5G option.
This situation will change in the future with SW update"
Is there help here and does anyone have any information related to this? Has anyone had a problem like this and has solved it without waiting for the software update ?

Hi!
In Switzerland is the same: the v60 has 5g active only for swisscom operator. I have it now with yallo/sunrise network and it doesn't show any 5g option.
I tried to flash stock rom from poland but still no effect. Probably the limitation is on the radio part of the rom.
Maybe someone here with more knowledge could shed some light on what is the best approach to take...
I was wondering if just by simply unlock the bootloader (now possible on the european version of the v60) we could get a workaround for unlock the radio limitations...

Help: I bought a Samsung Note 20 Ultra 5g SM-N986N (Korean LG U+ Variant) I live in the Philippines. Will the 5G work in my country?

Hope someone can give me advice. I have 5g in my house, my wife uses an IPHONE 12 promax and it can detect 5G but my device cant. can anyone help me please?
I'd like to up this too. I bought a Korean single sim phone with band n78 but it cannot detect 5g while my wife's IPhone 12 can. Any advice? Tried doing the quickshortcut app technique accessing the 5g signal manually but it won't select it for some reason
Check your SIM card or contact your carrier for help.
hi! Globe uses 5G NR/NSA n78 Band, which the korean varian SM-N986N supports.
Globe also provided information for foreign visitors who would like to hook to their infrastructure while visiting Ph. (see link below. don't mind the partner carrier)
5G Technology for Mobile - Globe
5G technology is the next generation of wireless internet connectivity that offers faster speed and more reliable internet connection than ever before.
www.globe.com.ph
if SM-N986N can't see the 5G network while other locally bought phones can, chances are 5G NR/NSA n78 band isn't available in your area and other phones hook through other 5G bands, or your sim card does not support 5G services.
i wasn't able to verify this when I went back to Ph, since my current provider's partner network is Smart

Question Problem - 3G During Phone Calls

History:
Recently purchased a S23 Ultra (SM-S918U1) from Samsung USA. Downloaded and flashed the appropriate software for Samsung Canada (SM-S918W) using Patched Odin (3.14.1_3B). CSC, as expected, now reads TLS/TLS,TLS/XAA.
Network mode is set to 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM.
Problem:
I have strong signal in my area, 5G, but during phone calls, my signal drops from 5G to 3G (WCDMA) as opposed to the expected LTE+/LTE (4G or 4G+ for anyone outside of North America).
I have changed to a new SIM card and am able to reproduce the issue on my S22 Ultra.
I'm beginning to think it is a carrier issue, Telus, and have escalated to appropriate support tier for a callback.
Is anything else I should be looking for in-between? Specific flashing techniques or tools?
Thanks!
if you dont have VoLTE enabled then your signal goes to 3g during phone calls, its how the network works.

I greatly appreciate your help! I knew it would be something simple.
Enabling VoLTE is no longer available with this Canadian CSC (Telus/TLS).
I tested two devices; my S22 Ultra and Z Flip 4; the Z Flip 4 was purchased directly from Telus Canada, while the S22 Ultra was purchased from Samsung USA.
Following a factory reset and reboot, the Z Flip 4 automatically registers for IMS/VoLTE.
The same cannot be said for the S22 Ultra when running TLS. I see an option to enable 'VoLTE' if I switch back to XAA from XAC, but it doesn't do anything.
It appears the carrier may blacklist non-Telus purchased devices based on specific criteria (e.g., IMEI, serial number, etc).
This was not the case before 2021.
It is a carrier issue. Bell/Telus blocking VoLTE and WiFi Calling on non-Canadian devices that are not sold by Bell/Telus. If you put a Rogers SIM in your device, everything will work because Rogers is not limiting devices by IMEI and model number where Bell/Telus are!
File a CCTS complaint. The more they get. The hope that something will be done about it. They will also block your device from roaming on to US carriers and block 911 access as well. I get a text every month from Telus saying, "
TELUS Message: Hi J********, as you may be aware, carriers in the U.S. stopped supporting mobile devices on 3G networks.
You’re currently using a 3G phone that connects to 3G networks and the next time you roam in the U.S., you will no longer be able to use data, text or make phone calls - including 911.
To stay connected in the U.S., you need to replace your phone with an LTE or 5G capable phone.
Learn more about the 3G network turndown in the U.S. at https://sms.telus.com/a519646aed"
I purchased mine from T-Mobile USA and use it with my T-Mobile SIM and Telus eSIM. I am on the U1 firmware.
Just call the Telus, telling them you brought a S23u from Samsung Canada. The model is S23 Ultra or SM-S918W. They will "apply the IMS registration profile" to enable the VoLTE and WifiCalling. That's how I did on my S918B. You don't need to change the CSC at all.
Thank you all for your excellent responses. I appreciate your help.
Telus' advanced support confirmed that non-Canadian Samsung devices are being blocked
Telus requests IMEIs from Samsung and registers IMS (VoLTE/WiFi Calling) if it matches the corresponding devices.
Google and Apple are the only exceptions. These criteria do not apply to them.
The next stop for me is the CRTC. If this concerns you as a resident of Canada, more information can be found here:

This is actually what I was planning to do but before I could ask, they, the Telus Rep., had already identified it as non-Telus device.

CRTC won't do anything, neither will CCTS. They claim networks can do this for the "safety" of their network. Only Rogers allows US devices to use VoLTE for some reason.
I went through this last year.

Won't last sorry. If your IMEI isn't on the whitelist it will be eventually kicked off the profile.
