Changing the system font

What would be the easiest way to download and change the font systemwide?
Here is a way to do it in the terminal.
First backup the fonts that you have on your phone. This will dump them in your SDK tools directory.
adb pull /system/fonts
Put those fonts in a different directory to keep them safe. Decide what font you would like to replace and what fonts they will replace on the phone. Rename those fonts with the same file name as the ones that you pulled from the phone. So, if you wanted to replace Droidsans with Helvetica, you would rename helvetica.ttf to Droidsans.ttf. Once you have renamed them, put them in your tools directory.
Then push them back to the phone:
adb remount
adb push DroidSans.ttf /system/fonts
Reboot the phone. Now the new fonts should be working.
Also, if you put all of your websafe fonts on your phone (verdana, georgia, etc), your browser should actually start using them on the websites that you view. I am not completely sure about the stock browser, but I know that it worked in Opera.
looking for fonts online i found some but i pushed one and i couldnt read it at all does anyone know what the default font size is to preview before i push it to the phone?

[Q] How do you change the keyboard of the nook color

how do you change a rooted nook color's keyboard. I tried to install a keyboard from the market and using an apk file. After installing, i went to nookColor tools... but it wasn't there. I also tried moving the apk to the /system/app folder, but when i try and paste the file, it says that the folder was a read only... so how do you change the keyboard? Help please
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936539
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Replace_the_Default_Keyboard
I tried the nookdevs, and got it to work for two keyboards. But one of the two keyboards needed an update, so i tried to redo it and when i got to the part where u have to enter the apk file name, it says the file didnt exist, and when i tried to move it to the system/app folder, it said it couldnt do that because it was an only-read folder. But when i tried to copy a different file to the same folder, it worked?
I'm confused
That means you need to mount as read/write instead of read only. In root explorer, press "Mount R/W" in system/app before pasting the keyboard...
Sent from my X to the interwebs
thnx that worked

Android file naming convention error. Cannot revert

Greetings.
First details:
T-Mobile Galaxy S3 (T-999)
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband: T999UVLEM
Kernel: 3.0.8-611599-user
Build Number: IMM76D.T999UVALEM
Problem:
I attempted to utilize the HyperX camera mod (allowing 30fps, and 30Mbit superfine settings etc) which required copying the Camera.apk over to the /system/app folder, (while deleting/renaming the old samsungcamera.apk and samsungcamera.odex files).
Here's where is gets tricky: Using Root Browser Lite I navigated to that system/app folder and renamed the files to *.apk.old" to keep them in case of problems. but, APPARENTLY I accidently renamed the Odex file to what is now shown as "SamsungCamera.odex?old". Upon using the mod I now get a force close on ALL video so I wanted to revert back, but I can't rename it BACK to .odex because of the question mark in the file name... nor can I delete it, etc. I tried to mv the file through ADB but a LV command shows the filename listed on two seperate lines.. as if it sees the "?" as a line break.
It lists it like this:
SamsungCamera.apk.old
SamsungCamera.odex
old
SamsungIME.apk
etc etc
I can't rename it through ADB because i can't figure out how to get the filename syntax correct and I can't rename it in root browser because it can't handle the file period, now.
Anyone know how to fix this? ultimately either a solution to fix it... or undo it would be amazing... I know the XDA group is amazingly intelligent..... Can anyone help me?
Please?
I can't attach files, just get someone to post the file you need. I think that should work. Also, maybe try a different file explorer like ES.
Update: ES File Explorer shows the file listed as "SamsungCamera.odex old" (note the space). Attempts to rename it through ES result in "file operation failed" popup for a second., Root Browser Lite lists it as "SamsungCamera.odex?old" (note the "?") and attempts to rename or change permissions through that program result in a "superuser permission granted" popup, but nothing changes. end result: neither work.
If the file is truly just "corrupted" or named wrong somehow, then the system isn't seeing it at all, correct?!?!? So a replacement stock odex would suffice?
Hopefully? At this point I just want the stock T-Mobile Galaxy S3 camera functionality (HD video) to work, again. Even in 720p.... However that is possible, I'll do it.
PLEASE?!?!?
ANYONE? Bueller? Bueller? ??
No video on a brand new phone isn't exactly fun..
Can anyone shed some light on renaming this file after this?? or provide the GS3 "SamsungCamera.odex" file?
Problem solved (by using another copy of the stock Odex)
For posterity:
Just to follow up.. The problem was solved with help from a member on this forum who provided the "SamsungCamera.odex" file for my T-Mobile GS3 phone, as followed in this thread.
If anyone else has this problem, or simply just needs the odex file... please see this link to this thread for that attachment.
thank you, again.

Can someone help for adding an external file in .apk file

Hi guys,
I purchased Micromax Funbook Pro last week for my mother who is professor of Marathi and has lot of work on MSOffice in marathi.
They told me that Funbook Pro Supports Devnagari(Marathi/Hindi) fonts and it does!!
but however i am not able to see Joint(complex) letters on my Funbook pro.
so i decided to add some external fonts to device. As my device is new and i do not want to void warranty by rooting it,
I got an idea.
I have Quick Office Pro installation package for my android, and i want to add this font file to that package
(you can see many fonts in that package file when opened in Winrar/7zip)
I want to replace any one of them and add marathi unicode font in that place,.
I tried to doing it by Winrar and Signing it by apk signer but it doesn't work (Application failed to install)
Please can someone help me adding this font file to apk package?
These are files (I renamed marathi unicode font as palcescript[one who already exist in the package & i dont need] and also included a win7 unicode font Mangal Which supports devnagri very well)

[Q] Google Play Services on Coolpad 8675

Hi,
A friend of mine recently returned from China with a Coolpad 8675, which he gave to me. I tried to install various apps such as Google Search and the Play Store, to no avail. This makes it impossible to use apps like Google+ and Ingress. This is quite annoying, and i was wondering if there was a solution to this problem. I really have no idea how android phones work or how to do stuff like rooting, so basic solutions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
LeCrazyPanda
same here
I am having the same issue.
I installed Google account log in service, and Google play store with successfully I even found those on the Chinese coolpad app store.
My trouble comes with trying to install Google play services, as even when I download it from the coolpad store, the install always fails.
SOLVED
Hi I have one and i had same problem.
First you must root phone, that is simple and here is instructions:
https://translate.google.cz/translate?hl=cs&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsjbbs.zol.com.cn%2F166%2F1606_1657041.html
after that you can manualy install GAPPS.
I get Universal Pico from Paranoid then unzip it on pc and create this pack https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzMLUR1MF4g3RHBqQjBsTGlyVm8/view?usp=sharing
You must copy to Phone disk and manualy copy to system folder directories.
EACH FILE YOU MUST MANUALY SET PERMISSION 644
AND DIRECTORY \etc\preferred-apps\ THAT YOU CREATE MUST SET PERMISSION 755
After that you must restart phone and enjoy
For Copy and set permissions i use Root Explorer that you must manualy install from disk
Sorry for my bad English

I see all these files are APK's. Do I install them like regular APKs? Then how do I grant permissions? I have two left thumbs as far as technology is concerned, so I would sincerely appreciate someone guiding me, step by painful step. Thanks.

Do exactly as @Hagen656 says: copy ALL files from GAPPS, *.apk *.jar *.xml *.so into the corresponding folders from the /system/ folder on your phone. If the folder is not present in /system/ on your phone, copy the entire folder from GAPSPS. You don't have to install anything, just to change permissions to 755 for /system/etc/preferred-apps/ folder and to 644 for ALL files (including the ones from /system/etc/preferred-apps/).
To understand file permissions in Android, read this:
http://androidforums.com/threads/understanding-android-file-permissions.73177/
For changing file permissions, I used ES File Explorer, you can directly download the .apk from here http://www.estrongs.com/?lang=en
After installing ES File Explorer, you need to install ES Permission Manager plugin, which can be found here http://getandroidapp.org/applications/libraries-demo/93311-es-permission-manager-plugin-1-0.html
Pls how did you change d language of d coolmanager app
