[Q] Erasing message displayed on first boot - LG G8X ThinQ Questions & Answers

This is specific to India for those who purchased the LG G8X ThinQ from "FlipKart" specifically the 'Made in Vietnam' Main & the dual display case both. I did not switch on the device out of the box and first directly put it on charge and typically any other phone would start charging in the powered off mode just showing a battery graphic icon with the percentage charge and any accompanying charging symbol or text but in case of this phone what happened was, I got a Circle with a "ERASING' text message for a brief less than 5 seconds and rather the phone switched on instead of charging (though it started charging after powering on) and I was forced to continue setting up the phone.
But upon seeing a lot on YouTube and also reading comments, practically everyone faced this issue even if they directly booted the phone without putting it on charge. This is weird, not acceptable, concerning and worrisome. If anyone can advise why this issue happened and if it can cause any future problems, please share your knowledge and also would request all Indian Buyers to tweet to LG India, send them a DM on Twitter and also on LG India Mobile on Facebook and also send a email to them. When they will get pressure of their Rs.320 crores buyers all together, they will have to reply. Please reply if you get any response from LG. Thanks!

i ll get my phone tomorrow. let me see if i too get the same message. but i hope its fine and there is no issue due to that 'ERASING' message

Yes, even I noticed it on the first boot, I can see only two possibilities, 1. LG updating the software (android 10) on Refurbished / unsold products from other countries and factory reset the device and update to Android 10. Since there is no charger inside the box ( Different countries have different socket and Power Standards) and LG India has confirmed on Twitter that It's not a Refurbished product, I believe that it is the latter (unsold products).

Been hearing a lot about this refurbished thing, can clearly state the product is not at all refurbished. Now whether they are selling unsold stock from other countries here in India does not matter as it's a brand new phone and I am telling you, it's great that it is an imported device. Sad but true, locally made electronics have faced a lot of issues, even MI products of late made locally. They have factory installed Android 10 out of the box and then mostly every device gets some sort of an Android update, note update and not upgrade. Android 11 will be an upgrade later but that Erasing message with brief circle is strange as because in my case I had not even switched on the phone but simply attached charger but it started by way of booting up. Any other phone will simply start charging in off state and boot only when you explicitly press on the power button. I have tweeted to LG last night for a response, request everyone to do so.

Please also do not insert main device in to case until fully booted. Fulfill the android update and then put it in case, while doing so please observe keenly the process of firmware upgrade which is shown for the dual case. In my experience, I got the message and I did not touch the phone while firmware was being upgraded but there was no message or indication stating that firmware was successfully done. Do check and share your experience.

New HERO

Hello,
I am a new user of HTC phones, and bought a HERO after going through this website and reading the posts w.r.t. Android etc.
I have a few queries, which I am sure will appear quite basic to most of you, however, there are quite greek to me. I am in New Delhi, India and bought my phone a week ago.
1.
I have read about a firmware upgrade to Hero phones. However, the helpline here says that there is no firmware upgrade available. The India page on the HTC website also does not list any upgrade. My phone is unlocked, although it shows another carrier's logo in the first screen, but no other issue. My firmware version shows 1.5 and Build no. shows 2.73.720.5. Is this the latest version or is this upgradeable?
2.
There have been a couple of instances where my phone has frozen, and no button has worked. I have had to remove the battery and re-insert to get it to work again. Is this normal? I haven't had a smart phone before so I wouldn't know the actual behaviour.
3.
I dropped my phone from about 3 feet, and it opened up with its battery flying out and a few minor nicks and scratches on the body and not the screen. No other apparent damage, but could this cause performance issues?
4.
Is there a way to sync this phone manually without having to use Google or Windows? Can I directly access the phones contact list and messages etc, like a data stick?
Would appreciate answers.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Please Help Galaxy 10.1 Screen Closes every 15 secs

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on September 13 in the USA. It is a 32 GB WiFi model. And it was shipped to India and I opened it on the 1st of October.
This is what happens:
I can switch on the device
The Home screen appears.
And without me doing anything or if I try to explore any of the widgets the screen goes off and then comes back again to the Home Screen itself. All within 15 seconds.
And if I try to press the camera option it say "Please turn off USB storage before using the camera function"
I tried to meddle with the settings( all within 15 the seconds as it again shuts off and goes to the start home screen) but to no avail.
But I'm able to shut down the device.
Buddies it is a brand new device , I did not even register myself , no data loaded , nothing at all. I think it is some software glitch.
Since it is an imported piece they say it cannot be serviced in India.
HELP ME
What model have you got?
Two choices with a new electronic device - faulty hardware or faulty/corrupted software install at manufacturing.
If you cannot return it to where you bought it (India>USA must be tricky) you can only eliminate the software possibility by re-installing from scratch...if it works then ok, you're up and running....if it doesn't then it's hardware and you're gonna have to find a way of getting unit repaired/exchanged...sorry can't be more help with instant answer...we can help you on this forum to try a reinstall, no problems
If the unit really is knackered, and you don't get anywhere with local support, you could try what I have tried on occasions with spectacular success...trawl the web, find the name of several top people in the company's head office - by this I mean in Korea for Samsung, draft a message stating faults, what they have not done for you in your home country as regards product support and then emphasise that you believed Samsung to be above this sort of shoddy standard, say how you thought they were a reputable company etc. Don't be rude but sound despairing and disillusioned with the company....."customer service" people could not give a toss in most countries, thay are paid their salaries regardless of whether or not you are happy Make up every email address you can think of for a name and fire the message off to all of them...hopefully you'll get lucky with one of the addy's...you'll be amazed how rattling the cage of somebody really high up in a company can get results
Try going the custom rom way. Try flashing task's rom and see what happens? If it's still a problem, u can be sure it's a hardware problem

Why a custom rom?? First thing to do is just to see if it is software related...there are some people who have problems with custom roms, y'know...just reload stock first to see whether it is hardware or software problem...throwing new things into the mix should come after a correct analysis of initial problem...introducing another variable straight off is not good practice
A few suggestions. First, in screen settings, make sure the display is not set to turn off in 15 seconds. If that's not it, then try to do a factory reset from the settings screen. The only other I can think of is to connect to your wireless and check for updates.
Checked...it's not set at 15 secs
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Did you try the factory reset like rcy1 suggested?
Yes I tried
I just had one other thought... is the power saving enabled?

galaxy alpha issues

Hi everybody i am asking for advice on trying to repair a phone for a family member the phone is a galaxy alpha F variant UK stock rom, factory unlocked and unrooted the problem started after finishing a call the handset was left un attended and when it was later picked up the screen was black but does not appear broken aywhere and does not appear to respond to touch
i have tried un successfully to get it into recovery or download modes the handset turns on and the blue lights come on and you can hear the start up tone but see nothing on screen, it also charges and i have tried a new battery, odin does recognise a device but as i cant get it into download i cant flash a stock rom which i have already downloaded.
So my question is, is there any software that i can download to diagnose whether or not the screen is dead or whether it is a f/w issue or is there a way around this where i can use a different tool to get into the handset and flash a new stock rom in case the current f/w is corrupted
Thanks in advance for any useful help and advice
Please understand that i am a newb to this so if i have made some mistakes or my questions have been answered elsewhere previously i do apologise
I think it seems pretty obvious that the problem is the display itself
Hi BigHands,
I faced a problem having the exact same symptoms as yours twice in the last few month: screen was staying black but phone reacted to some "external" actions (ON/OFF), blue light.
Not sure what happened exactly, but removing the battery and trying to restart the phone finally brought the device back to life after trying more than than 10 times!!!
So in my case, the display was probably not the (only) root cause.
Really weird however that I needed to reboot the phone >10times to make it work: usually when software is screwed either one single power cycle will bring the device back to life or it will never power up again!
Anyways, a FW issue is still a possibility considering the number of bug this phone has (for the price it was sold, that phone is definitely the worse gadget I ever owned!)... But it seems there is a bunch of FW updates on going on this model accross the world, so there is still a little hope things might improve... Samsumg may have woken up; who knows...

Question Shutting down every time screen turns off

Hi all,
Received my 1 iii yesterday, spent several hours setting it up, tweaking, testing, transferring files--and love it. Been an LG V-series user for the last six years, but with LG bowing out and having moved toward radiused corners, rounded glass, notches, etc. anyway--I'm very glad Sony is still out there making sane, non-compromised phones with basic features like microSD, no hole punch, and headphone jacks that are now treated as "niche" or "enthusiast".
BUT, unfortunately, having a very odd problem, and can't find any examples of anyone else having the issue... but it basically makes the phone unusable.
Literally any time the screen turns off--whether via pressing the power button, or via an inactiivty screen time out--the phone either shuts down, or restarts.
I've done a factory reset several times, tested it with fully restored apps/settings/personal data/etc., and totally un-restored, makes no difference--the issue always happens. So it's not the fault of any setting I altered, app I installed or disabled, etc.
I remember the first time I booted up the phone--but none of the factory reset times since then--that it said something about some setting being on to prevent battery wear from the phone being accidentally turned on during shipping. So maybe there's some bizarre setting somewhere that auto-shuts-down the phone when the screen turns off? Otherwise I'm at a total loss...
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Here is one of two reviews from Amazon about this phone:
"Got in the infinity reboot issue right out of the box...a $1200+ phone, very disappointed .
Got it today on the release. Then start setup and update. Not even until all set up finished, it restarted first time. Then again in just about 15mins. Overall been through restart 12 times. Try hard reset and all other methods, not helping. Return....."
So, unless you are the one who left this review...you are not alone! This type of stuff makes me so disappointed!
Sounds like the reviewer on Amazon was having a different problem. Mine stays on perfectly fine as long as one is interacting with it--only shuts down/restarts if the screen turns off.
Given the variety of software states in which the problem occurs--vlank setup, full set-up, safe mode--seems like a rare hardware issue. As long as it can be replaced with a correctly functioning unit quickly, it's still the phone I want...
If not, I guess I ride out my LG V50 till it dies, and then quit using smart phones...
Having to ship it in for warranty repair. Seems like almost certainly a hardware problem--sounds like I "won" the lemon lottery. A bummer, but not an indictment of the phone generally.
But I'm still really digging the phone--when it works. Did a video A/B with my LG V50, and while it didn't strike me as miles better--it definitely was when full-screen. Not having to look at rounded corners and a notch is worth a lot to me. With font and display set to smallest settings, *love* the look and roominess of the screen.
I agree with not wanting notches, or punch holes...this is why I am interested in this phone...PLUS I truly miss having a notification LED. However, so far the reviews from end users/owners...not the "pro" reviewers on YouTube..is leaning towards the negative! My last three phones have been from OnePlus. Currently on the 8T. I know many have started to slam OnePlus for their practice of late patches and higher prices...but I have not had even ONE problem with any of the OnePlus phones I've had! They just work. I've had the 6, 7-Pro, and now the 8T. There's nothing out there that even interests me any longer that doesn't overheat, or freeze, or have unnecessary dedicated assistant buttons??? Disgusted with them all. I just might have to take a harder look at Apple!!!!
Outside of what appears to be a truly random and uncommon hardware issue that's affecting mine per this thread--I actually really loved the 1 mk iii so far.
I haven't had overheating issues, camera seemed excellent, loved the hardware build quality, *LOVE* having a proper screen again (including no notches, aspect ratio, and tons of room w/ fonts and appearance set to smallest). I will never buy a phone that doesn't have microSD support, and access on this phone is awesome (no tool needed).
I wouldn't be too quick to write it off--especially not for the likes of Apple, who provide a hugely compromised, feature-removing, closed-ecosystem product at an inflated price for what you get.
Keep in mind--it's the internet, so you're going to far disproportionatly have people needing to discuss problems. Folks for whom nothing goes wrong--for any product--won't tend to seek out places like this to say so. So I wouldn't let a really small sample of issues unduly color your view...
Hi I have the exact same issue. Received mine on the 24th and transferred everything over from Oppo find X2 pro. Thought it was me at first when trying to wake but it rebooted. All fine until used in car QI base. After 20 minute drive picked it up and tried to wake only for the same thing to happen. Did this several times yesterday and this morning both on and off charge and while cool to touch. Very disappointing as expected more for something that cost nearly £1200! Like the phone a lot and prefer it over the Oppo but cannot find a way around this. A new 256k micro SD card also being used so have tried without this, without the EE sim and factory reset but still it happens. It's unusable as is so will have to be replaced, unless any suggestions?
Have had a few good Android phones from Huawei P20 pro, Mate 20X to current Oppo in recent times but never had an issue like this.
Having to swap back to the Oppo is very time consuming and exasperating!
Shame as this is a stunningly good phone.

Forgot to say there are others on here with similar issue, under random reboot thread.
After sending in for "repair" and receiving it back with no improvement (but "repaired"), Sony has finally agreed I'm due a replacement unit. Have shipped my first unit off, due to arrive to them next Wednesday. Will hopefully receive a properly-functioning replacement soon thereafter... Agree that, if the phone didn't have this bizarre issue, it would be great--very close to what I want in a phone (versus the myriad options out there that don't offer what I want, and insist on absurd design choices I detest).
So, we'll see. Certainly frustrating to have an issue like this on a phone that costs more than plenty of computers...
(To be clear, I had the issue literally every time, from the beginning, regardless of what I had/hadn't set up, installed, sim card/no sim card, micro SD/no micro SD, etc.).
I have Xperia™1 III but the phone is really stable for me, no random reboot. I have only heating issue. Xperia™ XZ2 Premium hasn't heat like this phone. My phone is Hong Kong device
Most likely not what caused your issue...but...it is NOT a good idea to allow any backup to install all your previous apps from an "old" phone to a new one. I know it can be a major pain and very time consuming to install everything from scratch when setting up a new phone...however...when you allow a backup to flow freely onto a new phone you are allowing all the junk to come back also! It's up to you, but I always install everything from scratch and it may not be related but...I have owned many, many phones and NEVER had all the problems that so many have all across the board. Am I just lucky, or is it because I have so much experience with computers and know how to set things up properly? YMMV

I think you have been lucky
Like you I have never had a problem and been in IT since the early 80's but this isn't something that's has been moved over. Sadly, the phone behaves the same wether out of the box or fully migrated. In the PC world I saw something similar with overheating and poorly cooled AMD processors in the 90's and am wondering if this is a heat related component batch issue?
Sony need to get a grip on this sharpish or they will be looking at refunds, which is never good.
The reboots are caused by the fingerprint reader. My new phone would bootloop while fast charging if my one and only configuration after a factory reset was setting a fingerprint.
DO NOT SEND IT IN FOR A WARRANTY REPAIR - - IT WILL GET WORSE
Get a refund.
First, Sony sent it to SBE with FedEx Ground, which currently takes about 2 weeks.
Second, SBE returned it bricked and voided my warranty. They said I flashed it but I had sent it in new and unmodified. I didn't even think they returned my own phone back because it had a UK/EU label and destroyed firmware. Sony Support would no longer help me because I was no longer a customer. SBE insisted I was a firmware flasher that deserved nothing. I ran EMMA and it showed my phone IMEI, locked bootloader, and stock firmware.
I finally found somebody on Sony Support who would give me an RMA. Maybe it was their mistake, but I wasted no time shipping it back. I'm doing a credit card charge reversal if I get any more crap from Sony/SBE.
I have spoken to Sony UK tech support and they have confirmed there is a reboot issue with some1iii's. Apparently, second line technical support have identified the issue (software) and there will be a revision released to cure this. When pressed, they couldn't give me a date for this and were a little vague. I was advised to return to my supplier for a refund.
Not good on a phone costing £1200 and surprised they haven't got their act together more quickly. They seem to be struggling getting phones shipped presently and my supplier has confirmed a 14 day wait if I want to re-order. I don't know if this is just poor advanced planning by Sony UK or if this is a Sony global problem trying to get hold of the components for manufacture.
Despite all the issues, this phone still ticks all the boxes for me so have decided to wait for the dust to settle!
Good to know there's some awareness now on Sony's part of this issue, and a plan yo resolve it via software (?). If the second unit I get has the same issue, I guess I'll wait a bit for that aoftware resolution--but deeply hoping I won't have the issue again.
I will say, I believe I tested not registering any fingerprints on at least one of the numerous factory resets I tried, and I believe the issue still occurred--had seen threads of similar issues stemming from the fingerprint reader on other manufacturer's phones, so tried to rule it out...
The original phone I got back from SBE wasn't bricked, it just wasn't in any way improved. Fortunately Sony didn't make any weird claims that I'd done anything wrong (I wouldn't know how to mess with "rooting" or whatever--no interest/need to). It was delivered to Sonyin San Diego by FedEx today--so hoping my replacement unit ships in the next day or two...

Agreed. With LG gone, I really want the Xperia 1 iii to pan out--only phone that has microSD, no notches/currves/radiused corners, a hogh-res screen, and a headphone jack. If I can't get one to work properly, I'll probably just buy another LG V50, second-hand.

Question Reboots

The Zenfone 9 is a great little device. However, since today I have seen several automatic reboots of the device. Anyone else seeing this problem?
I haven't seen a reboot; any new app you've installed of late?
Good hint - I have installed one yesterday. Will uninstall and report back.
Unfortunately is still get 1-2 reboots a day. Not critical but annoying! Anyone else?
I'm on latest update and unlocked+rooted. Not a single unwanted reboot.

Yes I am. No worries. Device is great. Just software.
Did a hard reset - problem persists. Not sure what the cause is - working with Asus support on it.
Hi, a friend of mine with a ZF9 has got reboot every night during charge (he uses slow charge, this night he'll try normal charge).
He had reboot even during daytime, he did a hard reset yesterday and for now everything is ok, but I'll update with new info in case of.
I've been having those reboots for weeks now. There is an official thread on the asus forums talking about it. There are more than a dozen people who have also reported it and from the looks of it, Asus hasn't found the source of the problem yet. Out of curiosity, in which country did you buy it? Are you rooted?
my version is a french version. I neither had any beta OS on it nor was it rooted. I wanted to provide Asus with Logs but they rather wanted the device for repair, now I'm waiting for its return.
I doubt this is a hardware issue though as the reboots did happen in cold state w/o any system activities ongoing. The only special thing on my setup was that I used two sim cards in parallel.
I did a hard reset and he problem remained. I also used slow charging.
I'm from Italy and the phone of my friend is not rooted and with bootlloader locked.
I heard my friend minutes ago, and from when he deactivated programmed charging the issue seems to have disappeared. Have you got programmed charging on?
Yes, I have the upload scheduled. But I'm beginning to suspect that the problem originates from a lot in Italy. I just asked you because I thought it was from there.
Love this phone but also having the same issue. Bought from Asus directly (US site) too. There's a whole thread of folks with the problem too on their forum:
ZenFone 9 randomly restarts
Hi all, I bought an Asus ZenFone 9 from the UK online store. I started to migrate the apps from my old phone to the zf9 and once I finished I started to use my new ZenFone 9 as my main phone. However, I noticed around 3 dso that when i wentato unplug a fter charging the phone it looked as if it...

Try to deactivate it and report please ;-)
My friend hasn't got reboot since then for now, two days and a half ago.
My reboots do not happen while charging, FWIW. And they're always while the phone is idle (sitting on desk). I look up and see it's spontaneously rebooting...
I was having reboots on custom kernel, just updated to 32.2050.2050.34 without going custom kernel (still rooted) and have had no reboots yet.
Mine reboots while watching YouTube app, either with high brightness, while charging, or both. It seems to be less likely to happen if i clear cache from YouTube settings.
It typically doesn't happen in other apps. Phone is stock. EU version.
After testing for a few weeks, there is a good chance that the reboots on my device are due to Magisk (not modules)
