Relock bootloader on Samsung Tab S5e - Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all, new here. I’ve been advised to visit here to get support since I’m not familiar with the competency.
I acquired a second hand Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e. It arrived with its bootloader unlocked. Apparently an attempt to install a custom ROM had been trialed but not completed.
I would like now to relock the bootloader cause it‘s preventing some apps to function properly, as a security measure.

Check the version you have on the device at the moment and download stock ROM for your device and flash with odin.
The reason is if you are on pie (Android 9) you can upgrade to (Android 10) but not vice versa.

Hi. I’m on Android 10 already
isn’t there a way without formatting, losing my apps/settings ?

No. Re-locking the bootloader will cause a "factory reset". If you still haven't found out how, look for the unlocking instructions in the Questions thread. The same instructions work to re-lock.

In the end, I found the Q&A sub-forum but not the "unlocking instructions" topic that was talked about. Can anybody direct me ? Thanks

As mentioned above locking the device will wipe it. Second the device must be entirely factory, restore it with Odin (is likely the best idea). If it is not, you're going to have a bad time. Next I must admit, I've never done this, as I've never had a desire to run factory software... So you've been warned... you're on your own. OEM unlocking must still be enabled. When you go back into the Unlock section (plug in USB, holding all buttons) you should be greeted with a screen but this time asking if you want to lock the boot loader. Note, Knox will still be tripped even if you lock the bootloader. At least that is my understanding, so you will not be entirely stock, and certain apps still will not work (payment apps).
Personally if it were me I'd say you're almost better off trying a custom ROM like Lineage, and use a custom fingerprint so the device comes up as certified. I don't have any apps that don't work. However I guess it all depends on your use case. Remember locking your bootloader is risky.

Youre already in fastboot mode. Simply follow the instructions for using fastboot to unlock. This is not a hardbrick and is a normal part of unlucking phones on 4.5.91+.
OMG this video worked fine and now i have my phone back working http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pspIVBKGPRU

this programe has the fix of your problem. RUN the 'MAIN.bat' in the file. I do not remember its number in the menu but the menu will lead you to solve the problem. It must be 'FIX 105:1:2' or something like that.
Hit the 'thanks' if I helped

read the whole thread. the answer should be there.
I would flash ClockWorkMod as recovery.
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager (search for Atrix 4G)
I prefer the Touch version, much easier to use.
Then just flash with fastboot:
fastboot flash recovery <yourImagePath>.img

Also, check out ePinter's CM10 (not the 10.1, it's not that stable), which you can flash from the new recovery. Don't forget the Google Apps package (install AFTER the main image).

[Q] Unlocked bootloader before upgrading firmware

Hello,
First thing I did when I got my phone before even playing with it was unlock the bootloader in fear I would not be able to later on (was so tempting to have the file and not actually unlock it, so i did). Afterwards I realized i did not run the OTA first and i am on firmware 1.26. I am seeing some blurbs here and there with people stating that in order to update the firmware you need to relock your bootloader and than do the OTA, it is not something that would get done by installing a new rom. I am new to HTC, had the nexus before this and everything could not have been easier. Just want to see if I am understanding this correctly, and would it be wise of me to relock my bootloader and than do the ota and than re unlock.
thanks for your help!

I'm fairly certain that isn't true. You just need to wait for someone to post the stock update "rom".
What is the most current firmware?
I did a software update and found nothing earlier today. I'm on 1.26.502.10
I remember seeing in the at&t forums that people were getting an OTA right off the bat, and in the international they have 1.29.401.12.. but maybe I am just being paranoid? I am on same firmware as you.
I'm not worried about it too much. I'm sure to have a custom ROM on this thing sooner rather than later.

I stand corrected. But the way I see it - if you unlocked the BL, you can back it up, then relock it, flash it, and then restore everything.

Why not flash a custom rom now from the international forum? Or just flash stock international rom?
Something in android revolution thread stated that if u have a different firmware version than what they are using u need to wipe data through aroma.. which i understand.. just was curious about running the most up to date firmware and such.. but if that's just for international. Than no biggie. Plan on flashing this afternoon!

First of all that kind of language is not tolerated on Xda!! :silly:
boomboomer was like me trying to help you by stopping you posting in the wrong forum because if you do any information or flashing of software from the wrong forum can brick your device. Now if you had done all the research you say you have done then you will know that I9300 international does not have a locked bootloader unless you have a magic phone that nobody else does! You may well have a I9300 but you did not unlock the bootloader! Also keep up the foul language (it will soon get you banned!

So now go ahead and think whatever you like about it and stop telling me i write in the wrong forum when i have i9300 posting in Q&A help & troubleshooting section. Are there not one single person here who is normal who could post something instead of these two idiots.

Then you either need to ask your brother to answer the questions I posed; or you need start learning what the terms mean yourself. You won't get the phone up and running if you lack knowledge of the basic terms and concepts. Its impossible for us to help you, if you don't provide the basic information we need to do so.
You don't strictly need to post a pic. Just describe what you see on the screen.

Download the file linked on the following HTC support page: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/
Then follow the instructions on that same page under "Manual system update instructions"
This should get your phone up and running, and update it to current Lollipop at the same time.
Then, don't mess with the phone (or let anyone else) unless you do the proper knowledge and research on this specific device. Your brother didn't successfully unlock the bootloader (based on your last post) and rendered the phone unbootable; so it seems that he did it wrong, and/or didn't know how to recover for a very common no-bot condition (basic knowledge, if he knew what he was doing). Therefore, he had no business messing with the phone.
Also, please turn off your CAPS LOCK. All caps means YELLING on internet forums, and just generally bad etiquette. For that matter, I'd politely ask you to please capitalize properly like a normal person. It doesn't take any more time (and just a bit of effort) to capitalize properly. If folks taking their own time to help you can type/communicate properly, so can you.

From that screen you can't tell if the phone is rooted or not. have you tried going into Recovery mode? The device has obviously had the bootloader unlocked, from this point, you could flash a recovery, assuming the phone doesn't have one, and from there flash a custom ROM (make sure it's for the AT&T version of the phone). Android 4.2 is the newest OS, unless there is custom ROM out there, but I haven't seen one on the XDA forums. Also make sure you are flashing everything correctly.
Alternatively, you could run the RUU to reset the phone to factory specs. You will have to re-lock the bootloader. I have the most recent one somewhere.
