TWRP on Mi Pad 4 - Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I am a newbie into this.
I want to root the Pad to run some apps that require root access. The bootloader is already unlocked via the miflash unlock tool.
Next I tried to install TWRP 3.4.0.0 via using the guide from twrp.me
https://twrp.me/xiaomi/xiaomimipad4.html
I am able to load the image into recovery section and I am also able to boot into recovery straight after that in order to enter TWRP (using Vol up plus power button as the guide mentioned). But once the Android system is booted up the TWRP bootloader in the recovery section is gone/wiped whatever because the Mi boot menu appears again.
What do I miss out?
It is also recommend to perform a backup in TWRP before rooting (magisk) or flashing a custom rom. The backup fails with a couple of red line "unable to mount...".
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You are using the stock MIUI right? MIUI will automatically revert recovery back to the stock one. You have to install a custom rom to retain TWRP.

Correct still using stock MIUI. Sadly, that means root and stock MIUI won't work at the same time.

Although I never use stock MIUI, I think you can root normally. You don't need TWRP to maintain root.

easiest way to root?

Hi
I've ordered the redmi note 2 and would like to install a custom rom on it when I receive it. Can somebody tell me what the easiest method to root the phone and install TWRP is? There seems to be so many different ways and I'm finding it abit confusing. Also do I need to unlock the bootloader before rooting?
Thanks

Flashed a china dev rom was an easier way without using PC. But first to need to wipe your phone. Then installed flashify to flash twrp.img. With twrp, you can flashed any compatible rom you like.
for the redmi note from the wife who only needed root I used Kingroot
And I wanted root and TWRP so I used Windroid toolkit
thanks for the replies. Windroid seems pretty straightforward, I'll give that a go once I get my phone.
You can flash xiaomi.eu latest ROM and you'll get TWRP 3.0. For root you can flash any SuperSU official zip using TWRP

you mean this one? http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-2-25.30340/
that says TWRP needs to be installed before that rom can be flashed?

Yes that one..
"Our ROMs now contains TWRP which will install it automatically and overwrite your MiRecovery (If you still use it)"
"Version 6.2.25 still can be installed via MiRecovery but it will overwrite it to TWRP"
I use xiaomi.eu ROM/Based ROM's because it has my language
ah ok, thanks mate
So I tried updating via updateer with the rom from xiaomi.eu but that failed it said something about the file signature. So I tried the windroid method, the computer picked up the device no problem and it was weorking well. I flashed TWRP and Super SU and completely wiped everything on the phone. Now I'm trying to sideload a rom using windroid, but when I go to the ADB sideload option in TWRP it just stays stuck on "starting ADB sideload feture..." Windroid seems to recognise that the device is in sideload mode but I can't flash anything as it just stays stuck.
Any ideas?
Never mind, my PC picked up the phone while it was in recovery and I was able to just copy the rom file over

Plszz help need to solve my confusionss.

In Xiaomi you there isn't any TA partition so you don't have to worry about DRM keys. You can simply unlock bootloader and fastboot flash TWRP recovery and SuperSU binary via recovery to get root access.
I recommend you to unlock bootloader and flash zcx recovery and create a full nandroid backup before mounting system partition. This way you have a complete backup of the current state and you can return to it at any time.
You can install any custom ROM via recovery.
Unlocking bootloader won't void the warranty.
If you want to use marshmallow you can either flash beta MIUI ROM with/without unlocking bootloader or unlock the bootloader and flash a MM based ROM via recovery.
You can return to factory state at any time by either flashing MIUI fastboot ROM via EDL mode on locked/unlocked bootloader or by flashing fastboot ROM via fastboot mode on unlocked bootloader.

I won't recommend you to use kingroot to root the device due to following reasons:
1) I don't trust these shady chinese closed source apps that relies on software vulnerability.
2) If you've rooted by any method without unlocking bootloader you won't be able to flash "incremental" OTA updates as it verifies system partition before flashing. However, you should be able to flash MIUI full recovery ROM that'll overwrite the whole image without verifying for the changes. Unlike OTA it's usually about 1.2GB in size. There's another method to flash OTA without system image verification which involves removal of a few lines from updater-script but I haven't tested it yet on stock recovery.

1) If you want to revert back to MIUI from CyanogenMod, restore nandroid backup. But make sure to backup every partition in TWRP recovery first before any modification. And don't allow system modification on the first boot to recovery. Firstly, create a full backup and then you can flash whatever ROM you like. In case you want to switch back, restore the full backup except "firmware" partition. I suggest you to use zcx recovery. You can find more about it in the xda thread.
2) If you don't have a TWRP backup, you can revert to stock ROM by flashing MIUI fastboot ROM via pc in fastboot mode. You can do the same in EDL mode but it'll wipe everything including internal storage.
3) If you want to install MIUI beta ROM based on MM, you can do that both on a locked and unlocked bootloader. Go to en.miui.com and download the latest beta ROM, put it on your internal storage and use the updater app to install it.
4) If you do the step (3) and want to revert back to MIUI stable based on LP, then you'll face sim detection issue which can be fixed by flashing modem (NON-HLOS.bin) of the same stable ROM via fastboot on unlocked bootloader. This is a bug from Xiaomi side.
5) You can use MIUI beta ROM, actually it's more stable than MIUI stable ROM and most people prefer it over stable.
Hope that helps

Help! Need to revert back to MIUI from CM13 !

Hi ,
I have to revert back to latest MIUI ROM from CM13 ROM [ locked Bootloader]. I have read other threads too but theres never a clear answer.
First of all I dont have any backup of any MIUI roms. I want to do a clean install of latest MIUI build.
What do I have? : Alka TWRP, CM 13 with locked bootloader I think.
Can someone please tell me what do things I need to revert back with steps?
Do I need to unlock the bootloader first then flash the lastest build of MIUI with MiFlash tool? or the bootloader needs to unlocked later after the flash?
Or can I install MIUI recovery rom? with ALKA TWRP?
Flesh miui rom via edl method using mi flash tool.
download fastboot rom and flash via mi flash.
it will lock ur bootloader so unlock it via mi unlock again if u officially unlocked.
off course this method requires a PC.

In the developer mode settings, enable advance options to restart. This will give you the option (on long pressing the power button) to reboot into recovery. If by this method you can get into recovery it would be alot easy to flash the MIUI ROM (which you can get for your device from the official miui rom download site).
If you can't get into recovery, you will need a PC/laptop.

Most probably yes.
But you could try( before unlocking) booting into recovery as i have mentioned above.

Can somebody help me please!

So hey! I successfully booted into the TWRP and used it to flash the DISABLEFORCEENCRYPTION file, right after. I decided to reboot to recovery (Cause I think that would be great just after you flash something in TWRP) but then after it finishes showing the pocophone booting screen rather than showing TWRP recovery. It showed the stock MIUI recovery! someone please help! I just finished flashing magisk and a custom rom by using the method of: Everytime I need to flash something using TWRP I would just open adb and fastboot boot recovery it again so that I could use the TWRP!
Thank you in advance!

I decided to fix this problem after I flashed a rom cause I think I would run into future problems involving magisk and it's use of the TWRP recovery.

If you already have the ROM installed, use adb to flash TWRP and without booting flash Magisk and then boot to system. If you are on stock ROM, follow THIS.
For entering into TWRP, use the key combination of volume up + power buttons.
You can use the encryption compatible TWRP (search for it) instead of the official one.

Unistall TWRP and make ONE Plus 6t like factory-made to claim warranty.

So i was trying to root my Oneplus 6t that was running OXynogen 10.3.4 Android 10 using TWRP & MagicSk.I read a tutorial somewhere explaining how to install TWRP recovery & then flash Magicsk.I successfully installed TWRP recovery on my phone using cmd with the help of fastboot. However, when i tried flashing Magicsk using TWRP,i got an error "KEY VERIFICATION FAILED".Now, i don't plant to proceed with rooting my phone any further. Can someone please tell me how can i undo all of my actions and get my phone back in original condition as it was when i purvhased.Like pure stock android with no TWRP,No unlocked bootloader...Just like a phone's software looks when purchased new.
TWRP can't get uninstalled. You've to flash Stock ROM to get rid off of it.

How do u suggest i flash the custom ROM? Will i have to do it using TWRP? Oneplus gives a .zip file of stock ROM on its website. Also will doing this lock my bootloader again?
@Illicit_Lokesh
I thought I made it clear.
FYI: Recovery and ROM are two completely independent different things.
No one needs a custom recovery as TWRP to flash Stock ROM: This can be done with Android SDK tools like ADB and Fastboot.
