New system update available - Sony Xperia 5 II Guides, News, & Discussion

Version 58.0.A.22.21 147MB
Does anyone know if there are any improvements?

Updated, don't see any difference. Maybe security patch?

I do not know.

Irritating that there are no changelog. Am I imagining it or have they tweaked the vibration strenght on long presses and the like to not be so aggressive?

They have changed the home button icon. It now has a circle around it.

installed this morning.
Security patch updated to October 2020
I also noticed that the issue with the screen going on and off during calls is now fixed!

What problems are you talking about? When making a call, the sensor works as it's supposed to for me.

I still have it

Anyone find the fingerprint sensor appalling? Constantly telling me too many attempts and to use pin.

Before the new update I faced this from time to time. With the new update this issue is gone for me.

same here

The only situation that I noticed this is when I was accidentally touching the sensor while holding the phone.
It takes some time to get used not to touch with your thumb on that area.

Hey, my fingerprint sensor was behaving like crap too, now after a factory reset it works very well, can only recommend!

Pretty odd that HK & TW got reverted back to the older version. Pretty sure it was there a few days ago.

Still no update for TW model, Why Sony Why???

I thought battery life was a little better.

Just flashed the new update via NCS. On EE UK.
Can't see anything new. Probably stuff 'behind the scenes'.

My update came though at 18.00hrs GMT but was WIFI only, I am also on EE
When you go to the store you will find that there are also updates for many of the Nokia Apps.
I have only had this phone for a week and thus am not too sure about the changes offered by the updates. In settings however I don't remember "network +" being the option name for call waiting. I don't remember there being a sunlight and battery setting under "display+touch".
Nokia music seems to now have access to my music library (perhaps it always did though)
On reopening Here maps it says "whats new" and tells me that it has true offline maps, Venue Maps and Turn by Turn. Not sure if any of these are actually new but Here wanted to tell me about them via a one time only "nag screen"
After the system reboot I did notice that the ambient light sensor went mental. The shadow cast by my hand whilst typing in landscape made the screen go from it's usual bright to very dim. TBF I don't know if standing under a UV lamp (outside the pub) was responsible or not. Prior to this I had never noticed the light sensor doing anything at all. I also noticed that I had lost connection to EE until I rebooted again.
As for reliability, I had not experienced any problems prior to the update
If you update the Nokia setting apps you get the option to see details on your "other" data... and clean temp files...

Minor wifi annoyance after 4.3 upgrade

First, I flashed Beans 4.3 OTA leak then his official 4.3, and both worked perfect. No random reboots or fc's. Then I just installed Sophisticated 2.0, and again no issues.
Other than the fact I keep getting a notification saying my wifi connected to my network even though it was already connected, and I always have it set to keep wifi on during sleep.
I tried searching, but couldn't find anything that sounded like my issue. I attached a screenshot of the notification I get at least a few times a day.

That is an annoyance, but thankfully one that can (newly) be turned off. Go to settings, wifi, advanced and uncheck 'wi-fi notifications'.

Thank you so much. It wasn't really a big deal, more annoying than anything. Coming from 4.1.2 I never had that, but that had that stupid wifi always in the notification panel.

(Sorry for the late reply - missed the notification on the forums.)
Glad to help - I've always hated that ongoing alert in the stock ROM. It's great to have an option to turn it off.

No Whatsapp notification icon on the top bar when getting a message only badge icon

I have upgraded to EMUI 4.0 and Marshmallow.
Un-rooted phone.
When I get a message on whatsapp it doest show at the top of the notification bar all I get is a number badge on whatsapp icon. I seem to get it on all other apps i have just not on whatsapp!!
It was working fine on previous EMUI and Lollipop.
Any ideas?
already done: Added to protective apps and wifi on and all the settings for app on whole phone screen is off.
Annoying me now!
same problem
Hi i have the same problem.
All my settings are correct but still not working. ive been searching for a solution for weeks now..
After restarting my phone the notifications will work properly for about an hour or so and then for no apparant reason they will stop.
Do u have any knowledge about de downloadable firmware/updates and how to use those?
cause i came across this on that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64535052&postcount=31
Please let me know.
Same issue here
I did clean install of B370 two weeks ago and protected Whatsapp and some other applications in four places. During this period I never experienced notification issue with Whatsapp.

Same mate, restart works fine for hour or so then stops working! I am a IT technician so i can follow the updates and stuff I just didn't want to root or flash anything.
Thinking about downgrading back to Lollipop seem to work fine on that.

You can adjust the intensity:
Settings>Sounds and vibration>Vibration intensity also:System sound/vibration
I've owned nearly every Galaxy S phone and this has always been a problem for myself as well.
I did notice though that we can create our own custom vibration patterns now and I created one with the highest vibration the entire full length that was possible to create. I haven't fully tested it in my pocket as of yet though but this might be something worth trying yourself.
I'm still using the zig-zag pattern and will likely test out my custom pattern this coming week and see how it goes as well as see how the battery life is with it.

Interesting... how can i create my own? Didn't see any option.
Even with the zig-zag i can't feel anything, it's annoying... my 2017 samsung phone had better vibrations than this flagship

I am no longer seeing the option either.... but something along the lines of "Create custom pattern" was in this menu before.
My custom created pattern IS still there (bottom of the screenshot below) and is named "Highest" for obvious reasons. I can't think of what would have changed for this option to have disappeared other than using Smart Switch, as I'm pretty sure I used that after seeing this option but I can't recall.

Question android apps are going back to default settings after reboot

android apps are going back to default settings after reboot.
I generally limit some apps from running in the background and change some permission settings and toggle off the "change permission if unused". The thing is my apps are going back to the initial settings and permissions after i reboot the device (sometimes) the other day i reboot it and everything wasn't changed. But i power off the phone and let it off like 24 hours and it happened again everything was back to default and permissions too.
Does anyone know what might be causing this problem and if it has a fixed or work around??? Thanks in advance
I have that problem too. After every restart, I have to set up tasker and similar apps again.
I forwarded your question to the official asus forum.
Thank you so much
update: after the latest August update. this appears to be fixed, im not having this issue any more.
