Are there any ROMs that are NOT based on One UI? - Samsung Galaxy A50 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Ot

Hi there, I have a SM-A505F and am looking to get rid of Samsung's stock ROM - it's full of bloat and very slow to interact with, and rooting the phone normally would probably make the experience of using it worse.
All the ROMs on this sub-forum, however, seem to be modifications of One UI. I don't want that, I just want something as close to 'stock' Android as possible.
Seeing as LineageOS, /e/, etc. are also off the cards, are there any non-One UI ROMs available for my phone?

There is an GSI rom out called Havoc but i'm not sure if this is good for daily driver.

I am seeing that there are many steps to do to install it. able that now I try it

I know right, I am tired of One UI crap, and GSI's are very unstable.

It's only worse this year. It tried to add blur on background of everything, but that blur has awful color banding so it even looks worse.

Best 7.X rom?

Hey guys, so i've been seeing ALOT of new 7.x roms coming out this week, and this is really confusing me, there are so many options right now im just completely unable to choose one.
Im currently running with Ashwin's 7.0 Rom but i am always looking for new options.
Any one who has any idea which ones are worth looking into? Most of them all seem good.

Tesla!
Tesla-N, Beanstock, Xenon, AOISP, Aosp.. Both CM14 ROMs need a lot of work still.
I have to agree with the two above.
GZR's Tesla-N!
Tesla has nougat rom? I only find Tesla mm rom.
Omicron Technics
Thanks for the info guys, anyone know if any of these can be dirty flashed over my existing ROM?

Always do a clean flash if you are using a different rom.

All of them can be dirty flashed required that you have the right bootloader.
Dirty flashed being that your flashing the same ROM that's currently installed without wiping. Sometimes good for updating but clean flash is always suggested.
I've tried Tesla N but I usually get System UI stopped. Now I'm using XenonHD and it's working fine, only torch tile in quick setting is not working, and camera takes 10 seconds to start after restart (2 second the next times).
I tried 3 different ones from local devs, the best one, fully workable and ready to use is XenonHD. Thanks to it's dev!
XenonHD for me its more stable then cm14
Just a quick update y'all; im currently running Dirty Unicorns (there was a new version yesterday, 20.11.2016) and it is working flawlessly so far. Thanks for the help though!

For me, XenonHD doesn't work well. It lags quite a lot. Like the frame drops are significant. Maybe it's at like 10 or 8 fps on XenonHD. But I have had no problems with TeslaN 3.1. Except for the fact that it is a bit laggy, like whole switching from one app to another, it takes quite a lot of time

Nougat is still in it's infant stages also seems like majority of people looking for battery over performance. Look into Kernal Auditor helps adjusting for your liking. Custom kernels like Heliox, Arsenic and Black reactor might give you even more options for tuning. I found all of the Nougat ROMs to be quite good considering we don't have official support.

Oh what is this - LineageOS 15?

Working:
RIL
Audio
Display
Bluetooth
Wifi
Sensors
Camera
Fingerprint
Broken:
VoLTE?
I will release when I want to.

In my opinion nougat and oreo are the most unexciting Google OS I know. It's nice to have, but half of the first year after release devs on XDA and even Google itself trying to bring back the performance or/and battery life the OS version before had.
Not to mention the problems with Magisk etc.

I suppose you're right. Neither Nougat or Oreo have brought significant changes, they have both been 'minor' updates with subtle changes to improve certain aspects of the OS. The last major update to Android was Lollipop, when the entire appearance was drastically overhauled from previous versions. I'm only excited because we just have to take what we're given, and any update to update the appearance and usability of Android after an entire year is a refreshing change! Even though Nougat was only a small update, it feels unbearable to me when switching back to Marshmallow without the new quick settings swipe-down; the one before the entire notification area appears. So even the small features can make a lot of difference to the overall experience! I'm still really looking forward to seeing the changes made in Oreo for myself when it comes to the Axon 7.

I don't get why people say this, honestly. Just because you didn't get a visual overhaul like you got from KitKat to Lollipop doesn't mean there weren't significant changes. Visually the OS is already at a level where there's no need for a major change (it has been "ready" since Lollipop, imo; Marshmallow, Nougat, and Oreo have all had small visual tweaks but have stuck to the Material language), and most of the tweaks work "under the hood." Oreo will bring Project Treble, which may just be the most significant change in Android in the last few years. It also brings improvements on the behavior of notifications and background services or apps. It's an incremental update, yes. But it's by no means a small update.
@Gases
We talked about excitement.
I mentioned the problems with the new OS updates, which brings maybe more security but also many problems to custom ROMs. Furthermore there are more problems in the first months. I don't need visual tweaks.
Project treble is mainly positive for stock ROMs. We will see, in which way custom ROMs can profit of this new feature.
Background battery eating apps are no problem on custom ROMs based on LOS, if you use the internal features or external apps. But again. It's nice to have already implemented.
Finally I am always thankful for all kind of ROMs and kernels devs provide to the community. And I was always someone who donated to say 'thank you'

Here is a small update about the situation. Since the most common stuff is working im going to release this rom in 1-3 days. But don't expect to much. This rom is still WIP.
Working now:
RIL(Calls, Sms)
Audio
Most of the stuff (NFC etc.)
Broken:
Camera
Fingerprint
VoLTE (Will be probably broken until we get new blobs)

I was just looking over in the Nexus 6 forms and to overcome the camera issue for them they had to upgrade from 7.1.2 - 8.0 and then restart the phone. So there is hope especially since the Nexus 6 is a 32-bit phone and I'm pretty sure 8.0 was supposed to be 64-bit.

Is it really worth it using a CUSTOM ROM?

Hello, new to XDA and specifically to Android devices. I love the whole experience with my redmi 5 plus. Just wondering why so many people use the lineageOS. I mean is it really worth it? MIUI looks awesome.
1. What's the huge advantage of using a CUSTOM ROM?2. Will I loose the warranty?
3. What's the success rate of flashing a ROM?
Miui is not bad too (better battery life, one hand mode, gestures, etc.) but I'm afraid there will be spy apps preinstalled in there so I have no choice but to flash custom rom. I think you can revert it to MIUI and not lose warranty. If you have past experience 99%. You have to unlock bootloader first then flash twrp and install su after that your choice if you want to flash roms. I forgot exactly what to do but you have to do additional steps after flashing twrp if you don't want that you can also try redwolf though I personally haven't tried that. Good luck
I say if you're satisfied with MIUI as it is, then don't install LineageOS etc.

It depends on the user, some are perfectly fine with MIUI & some still prefer stock android experience like LineageOS, AEX, RR, etc.(It's not just LOS, there's a lot of custom ROMs out there, personally i really don't like LOS coz it's just so plain), Me for example, i've been using MIUI for almost a year on my previous phone Redmi 4 Prime, i really like it that time because its smooth and it has a good battery life. In time i got tired of its UI & i want to try something new. Good thing there's a lot of great Custom ROM devs who maintain these ROMs, a got a good experience with it, at my current situation using a well maintained Custom ROM, i think i'm never going back to MIUI.

It depends on user, I get it.
For me it just feels bad to know that you re not going to get any updates from xiaomi anymore. The only reason I should update in the Future is if Oreo never comes. Nougat is too old.
FYI, the custom ROM that could be said have almost complete functionality is Oreo (LOS or AOSP based).
But per my experience using custom ROM Oreo, battery drain faster than stock miui. I think this is due to the Oreo itself, not sure if later the stock MIUI oreo will have same battery problem or not.
Good thing you will get from those custom ROMs are, almost fully functional Google Camera mod. Mine only have problem with front camera portrait, the rest no problem.
But in stock MIUI, Google Camera mod quite buggy, frequent FC.
Btw, you also could try some MIUI based custom ROM, which should be still Nougat.
You can still get the feel of MIUI with more features, and should be more stable compare with non-MIUI based Nougat custom ROM.

Sounds cool. Main reason I post this thread is to hear some users compare cons and plus to miui and custom roms. Thanks
I prefer stock android based roms . They are "light weight" and the phone runs faster in my opinion but miui is more stable because there are much more developers to support it . It's a matter of preference of course but now i use Resurrection Remix which is an amazing rom with a lot of customasation features way more than MIUI for example , also RR is also on Android Oreo with the latest security patch .
MIUI is a way faster and you will get Regular update.
Use MIUI and root it with magisk.

2 things i love custom rom are.
1. ez to change icon size
2. smart notification bar

pro's
- Faster UI than Miui
- way more UI features
- it has an app drawer :silly:
- Battery lasts longer than Miui
- it is anddroid Oreo
- supports VOLTE
- fingerprint reader is faster
- google camera port and camera api2 owns Miui camera
Basically nothing in MIUI is better, it is slow, old and goofy, it is rubbish and if you don't install a custom rom you should give the phone to me to fix it by removing MIUI :victory:

Been using it for a long time and even though I'm within the 1% of people with a "defective" device (means that I get random black and green screens with Difr's kernels) I have to say that this ROMs is awesome, no lag, excellent ram management, perfect battery backup up to 8-10h of intensive use
I don't remember facing any critical bug (apart from the random reboots that as I mentioned earlier less than 1% of devices suffer)
Edit: forgot to mention that it has little to absolutely no performance drop over time
Haven't wiped the device in around 3 months (and I'm the type of person that usually swaps roms at least once a month)

It's sad

Is it worth buying this phone?

What are the unresolved issues in MIUI and how can they be fixed? Is custom rom fix them?
I had read about screen problems(like touch issues), but I'm not sure if they are fixed.
I'm thinking of buying this phone, but I do not want to make a mistake.
As for design, I have no problems, but what else can I have?

Main issue for me is the way notifications are (not) displayed in the status bar. The big notch leaves little space for them, so devs devised some partial and buggy solutions. The clock hides any and all notifications from the left side, so you won't know whether there are any. The space on the right can't fit tsystem icons as well sometimes, hiding them behind a dot. So I had to move to custom roms and then the touch freeze nightmare began. Had to fight hard until I found the right firmware/vendor/rom/kernel combo.
Other than that the phone is as good as you can get for the price imho, but if you come from vanilla android, e.g. Nexus, Pixel, android One phones, be prepared to flash custom roms.
Oh, and one more thing, with F2 behind the corner maybe you'd want to wait a few more days and see how it is and what the price of F1 would be.

I'd say I haven't had any of the issues the guy above has had. The status bar icons have been fixed in official MIUI a long time ago. The phone does a good job prioritising what notification icons you wanna see (the most recent ones prob). The touch issues for me have been fixed (nvt panel), so that's cool.
I'd say latest vendor + any custom kernel you like and latest Magisk on MIUI EU is a flawless experience. If you want to go further to AOSP, that's also a choice. There's a lot of developer interest in this phone and I am very happy with it since the start.

It is almost bloat-free, almost vanilla android and has more customisation options than Lineage. But mainly because it doesn't give me trouble with touch issues. Otherwise I was very happy with Lineage and wouldn't think of switching to another rom. I've used Lineages it since it was Cyanogen early versions. In fact I'm going to make a backup and try the latest lineage again.
