Looking for a Freelance Developer. - Your Portfolio

im not sure if this is the right place to post this... or if there is a right place.... but i am looking to hire a developer with the skills to modify a recovery.img on a legacy device to enable adb and possibly build a custom TWRP. the device is a tablet running the rockchip RK3026 chipset and android 4.2.2. so it does not have a fastboot compatible bootloader. The device has full root access with the old simple su binary installed but i really need a custom recovery. If you are interested in the job please pm me.

Freelancers usually earn money on a per-job basis, charging hourly or daily rates for their work. Freelance work is usually short-term.
While a freelancer is not officially employed by another company, they can be subcontracted by other businesses. It’s common for freelancers to work on several different jobs or projects at once, but some freelance contracts may restrict who else the freelancer can work for until they complete the project.
Some of the most common freelance jobs are within creative industries such as graphic design, copywriting, website development, or photography; however, freelancers can work in almost any service-based industry, such as translation, consulting, or catering.

WebOS

With webOS being open source Joe, does that mean we can use.in on our phones now?

This is an actual "Long Answer" as to why webos ported to android would be harder than thought , found this post on the 'WebOSnation.com' forums

A lot for the following depends on the device in question. If it's older and shares a LOT of components and the chipset as an existing webOS device, this will be far less painful. If it's a current device or something in the future, this is gonna get VERY costly and painful.
1. Time. Unless you aren't married and have no children, you probably don't have enough. Exceptions apply.
2. Money. To buy devices to test from, with knowledge you'll brick many along the way.
3. Intimate knowledge of the OS being ported.
4. Intimate knowledge of the various hardware architectures being ported to.
5. The know-how to port webOS to entirely new CPU/GPU chipsets as necessary.
6. Intimate knowledge of UX/Interaction Design to change interface metaphors if the target device(s) don't support it.
7. Hardware device driver development knowledge to support novel hardware components.
8. The ability to get spec sheets directly from the manufacturer (often from China) if they don't exist online.
9. The ability to execute on all of the above in a near-flawless manner.
10. Further time to ensure all of the above are updated as necessary.
A person that can do this as a career can make around $250,000-$350,000 a year if they can do it single-handedly, and I know of no-one who can in a vacuum. It takes an entire team with their own specializations working in tandem to do it unless you want the first release on the initial device target to fall somewhere in 2018.

Security question.

How would you know if someone cooked a back door into their ROM. A back door that would allow them to monitor a phone's contents remotely. A phone that's running their ROM of course.

Normally this can happen only with vendor's signed rom. Only vendors do this sometimes. Examples: Conflipper, 911sniper and recently some other guys. Vendor was naturally HTC.
They all uploaded a lot of official roms to the private host, HTC investigated the case, found the possible leak source and framed them leaking the rom with backdoor. Thus vendor got personal data and later ganged up on them threatening prosecution.
So if you want to be 100% sure that you have back-door-free rom - cook custom Because chiefs don't give a $hit about your personal data, vendor - does!
P.S. And of course:
Remember, just because you're paranoid that doesn't mean that everyone's not out to get you!
than use only the shipt roms from factory , i have used many custum roms and never a problem now i use dynamics 2.0 and he is perfect.
the only thing wath is sure in live is your bird and dead

Oh. Don't tell this idea to anyone!
I have just bought a new sports car based on money stolen from your phones. New flat to come. Please, wait a little more! Don't spread this information.

Now without irony.
Of course, you can never be sure. But:
1) XDA-developers is a community of enthusiasts. If we were to steal anything, we could do it long ago. But, in that case, any other developer can reveal the truth about ROM internals and totally ruin reputation of that developer.
While reputation is just an "integer" value stored somewhere in XDA databases and people's minds, maintaining good "karma" in internet is still much more useful IRL (I guess many devs here can confirm it).
It is a pure hobby for almost everyone. Most of us have work, studies, lots of other things to do.
2) Windows Phone isn't really interesting for majority of "evil" hackers. It is a niche platform currently. It is nearly impossible to earn donations or get money any other way on this platform via development. Thus, I am quite sure all developers still keeping this platform alive are real enthusiasts without any criminal thoughts in minds.
3) Low interest leads to small amount of developers, lack of manuals, etc. Even "evil hackers" have to learn _how_ to do harm on specific platform. WP7 unofficial development has a big entry barrier, effectively filtering even power users.
You can ask what are the reasons most of us still work on this platform? Each software engineer loves when his code _works_, and WP7 limitations is better in this case. Because relatively small amount of native code works "out of the box" - I mean, without hours in debugger, decompiler, eyes red due to display backlight, nights spent in code

Great comments all around. I'm not a paranoid person. But I couldn't help wondering. I have faith in the community all around, like you said. Accountability doesn't lead to deviousness, it leads to integrity. I've heard that the Android is the hacker phone of choice. Or maybe I was misled in my naivete'. One of the things that I noted in my toying with the xda apps, the root tools tell you to be careful about allowing all of your apps. It's big fun watching what you guys crank out. keep up the good work, and if there is threat out there- crank out some apps for it.:highfive:

[Q] [Advice] What basic skills are needed for UX design

Hello,
First things first, thank you for clicking on the link.
I am a computer science major about 1/3 of the way through my educational career. I have been exploring opportunities each summer through internships and volunteerism how to be a better programmer and become more pragmatic in my approach. Recently, I have drawn up ideas for a UX design concept. Obviously, since I am a noob developer and know nothing about GUI (my classes in school completely skip over this section and it has always interested me). The most I have done was take a data structures and algorithms class which is like intermediate java. I have html experience as well and just started css course in code academy.
I figured this would be the best place to ask since it is a pretty large community of well-versed developers; not just for android but for the windows 8 and apple platforms as well.
What books, websites, mentors do you recommend I learn from in order to enhance my skillset so that I may implement these design concepts I have come up with. Honestly, they are all ideas on paper right now. I want to even slightly implement them so any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

I would suggest you try Human-Computer Interaction on coursera. Its a free course conducted by a professor from Stanford through the coursera platform. It'll give you a basic understanding of UX, UI and interaction. The course may feel a bit rushed because the assignments may take some time to do. This of course, depends on individuals so some people may not feel rushed and some may feel they need more than the allocated time. It takes about 9 weeks to complete. The latest offering just finished but there should be another one being offered in september or so.
This course is not a certified course and will not gain you credit though. Even so, I feel its one of the best courses on coursera. I know i gained a lot from it. You could read up about it and use the "watchlist" feature so you'll know when the next offering is. Here's the link:

I am currently looking for a freelance developer who, if can deliver, stands to gain a lucrative repeat-customer. Solar is booming, and I have been developing an App for one of the largest solar sales and installation companies in the state of New York. Our company has attempted to deploy technology to our outside sales lead generation team, but without much effect. The key missing ingredient in their puzzle is an easy-to-use, efficient, and stream-lined interface in which to seamlessly record data into our Salesforce database. I have conceptualized this project in great detail, and have even begun developing it myself using an Android Studio environment. I have successfully used the Salesforce Mobile SDK to log-in to our test.salesforce server, and have also successfully received data from our test server onto my tablet. I also have a working satellite-google maps, but am in dire need of an experienced developer to help bring this project to completion.
Ultimately, the plan is to provide an offline-capable version, utilizing the Salesforce SmartSync and SmartStore features provided by the SDK, but in order to prove the utility of this application to people at the company with the ‘ink-felt pen’, I plan on three phases of development. First, a internet-reliant version of the application, which can upload data into Salesforce in real-time, from the field. We will then deploy the app during phase two, in order to generate user-feedback and trouble-shooting support, while we gear up for phase three, the offline-capable version. The offline-version gives the ability for us to grow our lead generation team without having to provide everyone a monthly data-plan. It is the icing on the cake to the big-wigs of this project.
I am available 24/7 via Skype.

[Q] Getting back into coding

I haven't coded properly (as in actually delivering a useful product) for probably 15 years. I do really enjoy coding and plan to do it as a hobby for a while, building to the point where I have a useful skillset when I retire in 10 years. Partly for earning potential but mostly to keep myself mentally engaged.
I have done plenty of coding over the years but it's been a while. I understand OO, I have C# and Java basics but not current platform and IDE knowledge. I can deal with the basics of DB design, know a little about networking, but know next to nothing about mobile app development and deployment. I have a specific project in mind for the next couple of years which will require a central DB, mobile clients for data submission and verification and browser-based reports. Mobile platforms will include IOS and Android and they'll cater for local data acquisition and forwarding when connection is available.
I'm looking for recommendations for the best way to get started, ease myself back into it. I'd much rather start on Android than IOS (hence posting here). I wouldn't really care if the next few years efforts were throwaway work - it's regaining the experience that matters.
