Got my g8x screen replaced for free from lg service center - LG G8X ThinQ Questions & Answers

Just wanted to share my experience with the fellow g8x users, i bought this phone from olx, was pretty happy with the phone, and 2 week while i was travelling on the bike, my phone slipped from my pocket and the front screen and back glass shattered, but the touch and lcd were fine, and the metal frame got multiple hard scuffs too, so the next day i visited the lg direct service center and asked them about the screen replacement, he didnt acknowledge the offer and told me it would cost me 10k indian rupees for replacement, then i showed him this web page
Link and this image specifically

And then he confirmed the date of purchase, as my purchase date was under 6 months, he created my jobsheet after i provided my invoice, and after i handed over the mobile device, before i was about to leave he was asking the Aadhar card of the person whome this device was bought under, i was totally frustrated and he was adamant that if i couldnt produce the aadhar card, i had to pay the total 10k amount plus the service charge too, i contacted the seller, and he was generous enough and sent me his aadhar card, showed that to the service personnel, and after waiting for 2 long weeks got my screen replaced, and to my surprise, even the metal frame which had multiple scuffs got replaced.
Just wanted to share my experience, if the service personnel doesnt acknowledge just be confident and show them the free replacement page and he will replace ur screen for free

I also want to get my screen replaced because it has problem. I just want to know, does your new display feel better than original screen? Because someone told me that flipkart sale units are facing problems with display like my phone, but the replacement screen hav no problems and better colours. How do you feel?

colors are fine, i didnt have an issue before too, if you feel the colors too off, you can crack it and get it replaced, but after replacement your phone will be out of warranty

The service center guy knew about the offer, but he was trying to extort money, thinking i didnt knew about the offer, after i showed him the offer on the website, he then started murmuring something and wanted the original buyers adhaar card even after i submitted the printed bill(bought the phone on olx). So had to contact the seller, luckily i got his adhaar card, and showed him that and in a week or so he gave me a replaced screen.

[Q] Archos 101 Broken screen

Hi Guys,
I have a 101 16GB with a broken screen. Archos no longer repair this as it is out of warranty.
Can someone help, is there any reason why I couldn't replace the screen and digitizer myself?
Does any know where to purchase screens for the 101? I have checked ebay and there is one but that doesn't come with a Digitizer.
or can some suggest where could replace it for me?
Thanks
BW

Yeah, apparently Archos don't cover hardware issues unless it's an issue with defective hardware.
I broke my screen too. I had a good look around for new screen and digitizer but couldn't find any. In fact, I reckon the one that you found on ebay was made for the (very similar) 10.2" laptop. I haven't checked in a while so I could be wrong, but that was all that I could find.
I assume when you say Archos won't repair it, you mean they won't repair it for free?
I ended up having to send mine back to Archos for repair and it cost €123 altogether. It also took close to 2 months to get back to me. Just got it back there on the 30th of December.
No Archos won't repair it full stop. The start of the week it broke they had stopped repairing out of warranty and because this is not warranty they will not repair. I told them I was willing to pay. Made no difference.
Wow, really? Sorry to hear that. It does beg the question though... How many devices had broken screens repaired before they pulled the plug?
Unfortunately, I think it's a bit too early for a 3rd party to fix the device, it just hasn't been out long enough for the parts to be manufactured yet. But it's surely only a matter of time.
Note: I was actually sent back a new device. Different serial number. Maybe they just don't have the stock to send out replacement devices. We all know the difficulty they are having keeping up with demand (which in itself is a bit ridiculous but that's another story).
I'm in Ireland by the way.
I'm in Ireland also, what was wrong with yours? if it was a cracked screen when did you send it back?
Yep, cracked screen. I put the charger in with the device in my bag and it must have gotten a pretty bad bang but when I took it out the screen was cracked.
I got my device at the start of November. The 5th I think. It broke on the 10th (5!! days after I had it

I contacted, 130 pounds + 14 pound shipping = $233 canadian. I can buy a brand new 101 for 260 right from Archos..... can you say " giving it to us up the hoop"........Pass!!
My wife just dropped hers and the digitizer is shattered - the screen works fine, still boots and displays everything. Touch input is non-responsive, however.
Looking around I'm finding out that it's a wash. Can't even buy aftermarket parts to fix it myself. What a ****ing shame.

Oh awesome! I didn't even think about that!
So I just have to plug it a mouse and keyboard into the usb slot and the digitizer will un-crack itself or is there, like, a dance that goes along with this?
Hahaha.
No, but then at least you can use it atm.

Got a brick? I'll buy the motherboard / charging port (USB)...

This thread explains why I need one.
Anyone got a Vibrant laying around doing nothing? I need a motherboard or charging port.
Can someone confirm this will work? At the very least, I could rip the charging port (USB) out of it... I doubt the motherboard would work.
where are all of those "I bricked my phone" threads when you need them??
If you are still looking to get one. I could use one too. Just let me know how much and ill send you the cash.

I'd like to have the motherboard if you don't need it after you're done. I'm curious as to if I can change the LEDs for the hard keys.

Phone is now off to Samsung. Once I hear back that they wont repair it, someone offered to sell me one for $10.
If it comes to that, I may solicit help on the soldering it to the motherboard. I can solder, but I have never done small electronics.
Dude ill buy 20 mobos if someone can get my babys pics off mine. Those r priceless to me plus I could keep themeing vibrant lol.
Samsung wanted 200per device, which I have 2, to fix mine because the so called gorrila glass is cracked on one of them......Hows that for customer service on a discontinued device?

I don't mind helping. I've got numerous tools at work at my disposal, including microscopes to make sure the job is done right.
Me and my girl are probably switching service in December, so you two guys can have dibs... if you want it.

I need to go back and read your thread I guess... how is a cracked screen preventing you from getting your babies pics man? I am ubber confused by that.
Its not the cracked screen. Ive got 2 vibes. My wifes just crapped out alll of a sudden running stock. Mine had the cracked screen but it dont affect performance. Its been like that since I dropped "gorrilla glass" in the grass a week after I got mine a year ago. Idk wtf happend to hers she made a call on stock and it goes to the vibe bootload screen then dies. I got it into recovery once but ir died before I can save drives. (less then 20 secs).
Samsung says its because its been dropped and wants roughly 200 each to fix my issues even though ones bone stock that turned into a paperweight....
Sent from my Precision Vibrant
wait... hers should EASILY be covered under warranty with Samsung. Assuming a july 15 purch, you should still have until Oct.
Are you saying T-Mo was saying "no," or samsung. If the latter, that is complete BS and I need to get more clarification for how they justify it?
Can you pull the files in the 20 seconds with ADB in bursts?

Phone itself still runs fabulously, minus the main screen haha. Soft LED buttons also work.
Above picture is the aftermath of being ran over by forsure atleast 1 car, but possibly 3.
About a month ago, I attempted to disassemble it & screen swap with a bricked donor to some success. Runs & displays with the donor screen, but I think i ****ed up a couple fuse contact points because random seizure lines strobe once in awhile.
Anywho, it's dissambled into 3 different parts atm: Motherboard, Digitizer/AMOLED pane, and the main shell.
@thehandi,
Have you tried android screencast. Before the gingerbread bootloaders we were using it to see recovery through the rainbows. It will show what should be in your screen. And you can use your mouse to navigate your phone

They will have to replace it until it doesn't have the rings or refund your money, so what's the problem? ? Mine doesn't have the rings,
So there must be plenty that don't, to use to replace the bad ones.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab 10.1
Of course they will have to and they are just replacing mine.
The problem is that I wanted to see other affected screens but you have something against it.
Do you work for Samsung?
out of curiosity have people been able to take them back months after purchase? I got mine in July it had the ring a day or so later, took it back, got another, and just yesterday i noticed i had the rings when slightly pressing on it, and now i'm guessing it's only a matter of time before it shows up....naturally i do not have a receipt any longer and not sure i'll be able to return it to best buy without it or because it's been so long???

Funny thread, lol. Can see some people have it worse than mine. I'm in the uk with a us model too. I know there's a few threads about the problem but I am amazed and somewhat comforted by how many people have the issue. I am using the Samsung book cover which could be making this worse.
Took mine back to Curry's, the manager said all models had it, even their display model. (I had the 16GB black model, and got a refund.)
Then ordered the 32GB white model, and so far no newton rings, I will keep getting replacements if it manifests again though, for something this expensive, it's only logical to expect something perfect and free of fault. Cosmetic or not.
there seems to be an inherent manufacturing defect in the screen of the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, in that it develops an oily slick / newton rings( just google newton rings oil slick galaxy tabs and you will see the extent of the defect ) ,when the tablet has been used for approximately a week , this does not affect all the tablets but around 45-60 pct. are affected , I have written to Samsung uk asking for a change under warranty , they have refused saying that because I bought the tablet overseas they cannot repair it .
I may understand some of that , if it was a warranty claim , however as a manufacturing defect this becomes too much ! , I am NOW trying to assemble as many people as possible to mount a legal case against Samsung uk , as they are refusing to repair any tablet that was bought outside their territory and they have known about that defect for a while now
if anyone is interested please let me know and I will send you my pm

AT&T online warranty exchange is a RIP-OFF

So I dropped my Galaxy Note and it got a bruise on the corner and that plastic that surrounds the glass. The plastic that surrounds the glass broke off about the size of the character in the brackets (|)... because of this the microphone stopped working so i setup warranty exchange through AT&T and they sent me a new phone.
Well after I sent my old phone back to them they declared it has having physical damage and charged me $599!! I called them and told them in that case just send me my damaged phone back, they said they can't and I can't do anything about it either. They said I have my new phone and should be happy with it. I pointed out that I could have just sold my damaged phone on eBay for at least $200.00 and then got a brand new phone from eBay for less than $599.00 but instead I'm now OUT of the $200 I would've made from selling the damaged phone AND just ended up paying $600 for a "new" phone.. (which is most likely a refurbished).. man I am pissed. Had this ever happened to anyone? AT&T is ripping people off big time!

You're not entitled to return a phone broken. OP dropped the phone and damaged it. Careless damage = not AT&T's fault.
The OP I leaving out the part where they TELL YOU that there will be a $599 charge after they ask you MULTIPLE questions about physical damage on the phone...including the bezel and screen and such....

Yeah, the 14 day return only counts if the phone is in the same condition they sold it in. I was told this by a Rep so it may not be completely correct but this is just from personal experiences.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. After my post and the comment that followed I was wondering where you send a phone that did get broken from operator error?
Repairs are usually less than replacement.
Now....according to my insurance through ATT, although not from ATT directly, but offered by ATT, I have damage coverage to include water, drop, explosion, zombie world domination etc.
So am I to assume that my insurance is not going to help me ??

Dead Pixel again and again!!

I exchanged the XZU three times and all have dead Pixel or hot Pixel. With the one I have now there 3 white Pixels. The strange thing that I see the white Pixels when I tilt the phone not when I look straight.
Do you tested yours XZU dose it has Pixel error?
Do I exchange it again? I am afraid the new will be the same.
I did that with Samsung galaxy S4 active and htc butterfly and it was always dead Pixel or hot Pixel.
What you think is it normal for the phone LCD screen to have pixel error.
what about your XZU ?

exchange it again!!!. the woman in the store has enough she was not happy with that, because Friday when I exchange it ( which has dead Pixel) she opened three XZU and I test them and two have dead Pixel, and the third one I took it because I did not found any pixel error when I was in the store but when I went home I saw 3 white Pixel at booting
What is the effect in the future on the screen from the dead Pixel?

I think the woman would be angry with Sony not with you the consumer. Exchange it again, and get a working unit. She may need to order some in, if the three others are defective

thanks
I am not sure I will find one XZU without dead Pixel because until now I saw 5 XZU all have Pixel error. I do not have luck with this phone I like the phone I want to keep it. I will go tomorrow and see if she will agree to exchange it again. I think this time she will argue me about Sony policy for the dead Pixel number, because last time she just mention it?
Wish me luck !
I am very anal about dead pixels and both of my Xperia Z Ultras had no issue at all. The first thing I do with every device is to check the screens with a LCD test app. So in my opinion it's very weird that you had all these faulty units, but I would continue to try to find a perfect one.
The shop refuse to exchange it

you fricken serious?? Speak to the manager. Go higher. Is it a franchise?
In New Zealand we have 'consumer guarantees act' and we can go to a branch of the government and they force companies to front up and do what the law says or they get a massive fine.
Suck it up or go get a different phone. I find it hard to believe you got 3 phones with dead pixels in a row.. take some pics of your latest one
Anyway that’s it’s now. I will use it until a new model and better come out.

Shop owner can't legally not give you a new one. It's a default unit which you took back quickly, threaten her with legal action.
