v30+ External display - LG V30 Questions & Answers

So recently my v30+ suffered a sad fate and the display died on me, so i turned to using an external display via dongle (type c to hdmi) And for some reason it's been VERY laggy as if it was only 2fps, i've rebooted the phone, changed resolution, to no avail, it was working fine for about a week now its totally unusable due to it being so laggy.. Any ideas as to what could have caused this? Thanks.

Dead HDMI post FW .15

Well the title says it all... after upgrading to FW .15 I lost all HDMI out capabilities. It was working flawlessly before and now after many reboots and factory reset I conclude it is just ...dead.
Anyone else experiencing this ? My friend's TP seems to be doing the exact same thing so it might be a FW issue but it seems rather odd.

Once Asus posts the full ROM .zip of .15 on their support site I recommend downloading it, extracting the .zip contained within it, renaming the .zip to "SD201_UPDATE.zip" (without quotes) and placing it on the root directory of a Micro SD card. Then reboot (with the Micro SD in the slot of the Prime) while holding Vol Down + Power until you see some text appear on the upper left of the screen. Let go of the two buttons and then press Vol Up within 5 seconds or so of the text appearing. The Prime will then check the file's integrity and flash the kernel and ROM. If it doesn't work (you'll see the android laying on his back "dead") make sure you followed my instructions and downloaded the file specific to you Prime's locale (US, TW, WW) and try again. If it succeeds it will boot like normal and then you can test HDMI out. If it still doesn't work then you should contact ASUS support and file a warranty claim (unless you've unlocked your bootloader, which I gather you haven't since you are even asking this) and tell them you need a replacement unit. I hope this works for you - if it does say thanks .

THanks for the tip, will try that as soon as it becomes available.
And no, as much as I like tinkering with ROMs I'll play safe with the Prime for a while.
Will keep you posted.

That's terrible you need to go through all this. I just updated to .15 ignoring 14 for weeks right before seeing this thread. I been on 13 since I bought it and been using hdmi if it is dead now cuz of 15 Imma hate asus.
Do you see the hdmi notification when you attach the cable? Have you noticed any looseness in the hdmi port?

I've upgraded to .15 and have had no issues so far (touch wood!) with HDML output. I used it last night to watch a film with no problems. That would suggest that it's not a FW issue but then again this is the Transformer Prime! It's just a thought but have you tried another cable?

I haven't noticed any looseness besides how it's always been. I do not however see the HDMI notice popping up. So it could very well be hardware. What I do find odd however is that my friend has got the exact same issue post .15 The probability that both our HDMI would have suddently given up after .15 because of hardware failure seems low.
I'm actually having an issue with my HDMI port as well. I'm not sure if its .15 related but I just did a factory reset and it still won't connect. I tested the cable and it's not the cable.
This was before the update, but my HDMI is completely dead. The first time I tried the HDMI, it worked perfectly until after like 2 more times. Afterwards, it would not detect the HDMI at all. I bought another cable, no luck.
I can confirm it is not cable or monitor related since we have both tested our TP on multiple receivers, projectors and screens!
My friend's TP randomly detects the Micro HDMI connection but never outputs while mine never detects and never outputs.
Up until .15 I had used the HDMI out quite a few times and it always worked flawlessly while always having that "looseness"
Factory reset did not help here either.
This is a major issue for me as my TP was used as a portable home theater (and performed admirably at it until now).
Your problem is most likely hardware and the port for whatever reason just stopped working. I had the same problem with mine and have since returned it (will get another one as soon as BB gets some in). I've searched around and nobody else seems to be having an issue with the HDMI out port post .15
I've also heard from a few people that have HDMI port problems before the latest update.....maybe the port is poorly constructed and can break easily.
has anyone had issue displaying and playing games or more graphic oriented games on Prime thru HDMI connection? a couple weeks back I went home for holidays. I brought my HDMI cable n hooked it up to pops bigscreen Plasma. homescreen looked great, gallery looked great, everything performed good except when I tried to play a game like Shadowgun or Riptide. the game looked all glitched up on t.v. like completely blurred or something. hard to describe but definitely was not showing proper game image on t.v. thru HDMI. this was back on .14 update. just curious if anyone had that issue also or if something else might be the culprit.
also noticed at first like going into gallery everything would show up and I can scroll smoothly and transition fine between pictures. then after a while it seemed like screen would go blank in-between each picture then load the next. instead of at first where HDMI mirrored exactly what the prime would do. after a while it still scrolled thru pix but seemed like it needed to load LR something between each one. like connection lost for a brief second then comes back on next pic. instead of smooth transition between pix without loading. not sure as this was the first time I ever got to try out my HDMI connection. worked n looked great for the most part except what I described.

Stutter After Motherboard Replacement

Hey there,
Recently, my SGS2 Motherboard(+Battery Socket) got replaced by Samsung due to several issues (very quick battery drain when low battery and crappy home button behaviour etc.) Next day, I started to experience a strange issue, significant stutter, choppiness.
The stuttering begins mostly after enabling Mobile Data, or WiFi and when below 15% battery, but launching an app can also trigger it, even when WiFi and Mobile Data are disabled. Nothing but Lock&Unlock ends the stutter. But it sometimes starts again after a while. The stutter doesn't get triggered when the phone is charging, even with very low battery.
Tried Wipe Data/Factory Reset several times, used another Battery/Adapter, updated the version and then downgraded to a version I've been using before the replacement.(JB)
Didn't try rooting/installing any ROM so far since I might send the phone back although I have a jig.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bump.
get back to Samsung and ask for a new phone.Obviously a motherboard replacement wasn't enough.

[Q] S3 Possibly Broken?

My S3 has I think started dieing on me. It was mainly when playing games but can happen randomly now, especially more so when I play games (which I now don't!). The screen starts to 'flicker', the picture remains but it's like the light across the screen flickers and then if it crashes (most of the time) and I reboot the phone the battery is nearly non existent. If the phone doesn't crash/reboot the signal is gone so it stops being a phone until I reboot.
Is this a case that the phone is broken? I'm not going to repair if so but if it's something I can easily fix then I'd like to do so!
I've flashed a couple of different ROMs as I thought that may be the case at first but it's the same on all I've tried.
I had to get the USB repaired recently as it stopped charging so I'm wondering if the phone is just on it's way out, which is disappointing as I've kept it in mint condition and it's only like 18 months old!
Replace the battery first.
Thanks I'll give that a try!

Screen flickering.

When on low brightness, my phone screen does this weird flickering. Today it actually went pretty bad, with some kind of green nuance and was doing it whel turning screen on and off. Searching online I found a lot of people have this issue and most of them say it is software bug, nothing to do with hardware. Turning off screen overlay on developer tools doesnt fix it. I also tried to flash official lollipop but it does it on it to. Anyone have a fix for this ?
my wife has this phone. when we removed the sd card and sim card so she could use her old s4 until we got it fixed, she continued to use the s5 at the house. we noticed that once she'd pulled the cards out though, the flickering problem seems to have gone away. i know one other phone i had at some point, the sd card failed and caused all sorts of weird issues. when i upgraded (not in response to the weird issues, just getting a bigger card), the problems went away.
i would say try replacing the sd card if you have one, maybe splurge on a really high quality one if you can.

Any overheating/serious lag issues with G5?

I'm a G4 owner. I'm on my 2nd handset (the first was a bootloop victim). My new phone often runs very hot, and on one occasion while in the car I got a message saying that the phone had stopped charging because it was too hot. More worryingly, the phone frequently becomes completely unresponsive for several seconds - e..g. while on the home screen it doesn't respond to any touchscreen or button actions for several seconds.
I'm shopping for a replacement, and can't decide between a G5 and a Galaxy Note 4. The Note 4 seems to have much better battery life, but the G5 camera sounds much better in low light (and also has Nougat). My main concern with the G5 is that it'll start to exhibit some of the G4's problems.
Have any G5 owners experienced overheating or serious lag/unresponsiveness issues?
I too had a G4 that suffered from the bootloop issue. Actually went through three of them until Sprint replaced it with a new device. I could choose between the G5 and the HTC 10. I reluctantly stuck with the G5, mostly for the replaceable battery. I haven't been disappointed, with the exception of the GPS antenna crapping out a few weeks ago. No overheating that I've noticed.

You can minimize overheating by NOT charging while being use (as a gps for instance) When possible have the screen off... If you game a lot on the phone, another brand might be best.

I don't game at all, but use GPS alot in the car. If I use Google Maps Navigation with no charger connected the battery would be dead before I complete most journeys. So unfortunately that wouldn't be a practical workaround.
I'm shocked that the phone can't perform as a basic GPS device without overheating if it's connected to a charger - running off a car charger is surely normal for anyone using their phone as a GPS for any extended period of time?

I've had no problem with overheating using GPS and charging. In fact, I always keep it plugged into the charger.
