Advantages of owning both a Samsung phone and tablet? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 / S7 Plus Questions & Answer

About to get a new phone and I also have a S7+. Are there any benefits with using a Samsung phone over just any Android device?
I want the Pixel 4a 5g because of the price, but I am already missing the benefit of measuring my blood pressure and EKG with my Samsung watch, because I have a V60 at the moment. That is not that big of a deal but I wanted to know what features I may be missing out on my S7+ by not going with a Samsung phone.

Customization. No other stock phone is as customizable. Hundreds of free icon packs, themes, and the Good Lock family of apps.
Many of the Samsung's have SD card slots. I won't buy a phone with no SD card slot as I use it as a data drive.

There are quite a few advantages, all of which I use daily and although they are mainly simple things that you could probably work around, I couldn't see myself switching to another phone and losing those features now that I have them.
1. Call and text sharing, so if a call or text comes in on my phone I can answer it on my tablet.
2. Seamless audio switching with my Buds+, if I'm listening to something on my phone, then switch to watching something on my tablet the Buds+ will auto switch device. Also, if I'm watching something on my tablet and a call comes in on my phone, the Buds+ will switch to the phone.
3. Auto data tethering. Your phone will always appear at the top of the WiFi menu on your tablet and you can start tethering data without having to first enable it on the phone.
4. App sync, I don't use this one that much as right now I think it only works with Samsung Notes and Samsung Internet but if I write a note on my tablet and then open the multitasking menu on my phone there will be a button to open Samsung Notes on the phone just as I had left it on the tablet.
5. You can use the tablet keyboard to type on the phone. Just press a button on the tablet keyboard and it switches to typing on the phone, handy for replying to WhatsApp messages without having to pick up the phone.
There are probably some more features, but these are the ones that I use.

Thank you for your reply, that helps a lot! Probably go with the S21 5g then. I have everything else Samsung (TV, tablet, watch, earbuds, SmartThings WiFi) might as well get their phone too along with a Samsung fan boy t-shirt!

On the screen shot on the right/left sides you'll notice the light strips. They can be may any size, color or transparency including invisible. That's the app One Hand Operation + which is a very cool app that can be used to toggle on many different apps/services, gesture navigation and more.
Nests well in the curve of the screen. The Digi Clock Widget also has 4 switch quadrants that I use... hidden switches everywhere. They allow for a very clean but highly functional/stable home screen. Very low battery usage as well.
The Buds couple fast with Samsung phones plus you can use the proprietary SSC codec. The Buds + are a definite sound upgrade from the Buds. Not sure about the Buds Pro, there could fit issues; the Buds and Buds+ are dimensions/fit identical but that was change with the Pro model.

[Hack?] Control your PC from your watch

Here is the link to the full howto: http://wolfebaine.blogspot.com/2014/12/control-computer-from-android-wear.html
So I'm now the proud owner of an LG G Watch. After reading all the flame wars on whether Android Wear was the greatest thing since sliced bread or the worst thing since un-sliced bread I decided to be conservative and opted for a first gen watch before dropping too much cash on the "newest-greatest". I'm not going to add to the already gigantic pile of Wear reviews, suffice to say I'm satisfied with it for what it is and what I paid for it.
But that's not the point of this post. 90% of the reason I bought the watch wasn't for what it did, but rather what can I make it do??? So I got it, rooted it, and started sideloading apps (xda). What I ended up with was an android smartwatch that could also:
Play a movie (QQPlayer + ES File Explorer + Bluetooth Headset)
Run an NES Emulator (NES-FC Lite + Bluetooth controller)
Open my garage door (V1_Bluetooth_Arduino app + my bluetooth/arduino garage door setup)
None of these were really way out there as far as plausibility so I continued my hunt to push the limits of what this thing can do.
The one place I feel Android Wear falls short is the 'control' aspect of things. It is a fantastic little devices for providing you with information, but at the end of the day I should be able to tap the thing on my wrist to control my every day life.......
The closest thing I could find right now is the IFTTT integration. Bravo in general to this website and moreso for making it compatible with wear. They get it. Tap a button to cause an action somewhere in the real or digital world.
So after playing around with existing recipes (https://ifttt.com/android_wear) I remembered a post I saw a while ago about controlling your computer with IFTTT and Dropbox vis SMS.
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-issue-a-command-to-your-computer-with-a-text-message/
The premise is exactly the same except instead of using SMS as the trigger, you'll use android wear as a trigger.

Happy Holidays!
Yesterday i received my moto 360 and i was very excited about it's possibilities. I
I bought this remote control app a few hours ago: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Relmtech.RemotePaid&hl=de
Only the full version of the app has android wear support, but it's worth it
Within the app you can create statusbar shortcuts which looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
There are various actions you can assign for these shortcuts but the most useful i think is the Remote File Manager option. This allows you to start a batch located at your computer.
Personally i have created 4 shortcuts for changing the sound output and the mouse speed of my pc with one touch on my moto 360.
On my moto it looks like this: (only the symbol for the shortcut is correct, not the colour)
You can also control your mouse with your wear. But it's not working 100% smoothly for me.

[Workaround] Bring S-View back (xposed, dashclock)

First of all, video:

Solution is not from android programmer, rather geek
Hi there... so, i was pretty dissapointed with lack of S-View functionality on CM13, S4 Mini. It was great feature, that was doing really good job with magnetic cover.
If you tried to do something with it, you probably experienced some problems with magnetic sensor (or you were smarter than me). It prevented to turn on screen with power button on any custom lockscreen from market, that was better than cm's stock one. In terms of 'better' i have in mind a lockscreen... that has f*** clock in right spot for case's window I was trying to bring it back with various results, but finally i achieved (i think) the best possible solution, turning lockscreen into S-View screen.

What it does right: showing time and basic info about battery, calls, msgs, next alarm, notifications (from gmail, fb messeger - that part is actually very customizable).
What it doesn't do at all: doesn't let you pick up calls, turn off your alarm via window and do any stuff that requiers touching via window. Magnetic sensor basicaly turns off that feature when case is closed. Showing info about playing track is not worth activating (because of space).
So, we need xposed installed and then download module: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.ssrdroide.lockscreenwidgets
And the widget we are gonna use is dashclock: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nurik.roman.dashclock (or you can use more advanced alternative: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kk.widget)
Step 1. First thing you wanna do is to configure widget the way you want - download some extensions for it (like battery info). I highly recommend to use DashNotifer to get notifications from custom apps like fb messenger (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.umang.dashnotifier It's already there in KK Widgets). Test it on your homescreen for now and find configuration that suits you.
Step 2. will be add widget to lockscreen via xposed module. This configuration (http://i.imgur.com/iiJMK7w.png) will keep your widget in case's window, when owner info will be out of it on same time. There is also something to mention - if you will not turn off notifications on lockscreen they will move your widget little higher (depending on number of notifications).
So... 1. If you wanna keep your notifications on lockscreen, set container 'y' translation to something around -150. Widget will stay in window regardless number of notifications.
2. If you wanna remove notifications for that cause, set container 'y' translation to -175. Widget will be in perfect spot for the whole time.
That works for standard DPI.
And that's it. It works perfectly with magnetic sensor.
For better effect you can change your wallpaper to black (worth it). That's however will change when you will listen to music, you can turn this option off or use this xposed module to paint it black for good: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.generalbrus.brightlockscreen
Another thing is alarm. It happens that Timely has clock in perfect spot when activated and can be controlled with physical buttons
I'm super happy with result. It's not exactly what you could achieve with real S-View, but it does good job
If you have better solutions share it in thread!

Just Got My S9 Plus - A Couple Of Questions

Hi everyone,
I've just moved from my trusty LG G6 to a new SAmsung S9 Plus UK version (Exynos 9810) and so far I'm pretty happy, love the screen, the responsiveness and it's a lovely looking phone although slippery as a fish without a case, managed to find a good case/screen protector combo but took a while. Have gone for the Whitestone Doma which is an awesome screen protector but was really frustrated to get bubbles in the glue which shouldn't happen..
Anyway Its only really day 3 or 4 and I realise things may change in time but have some observations and wondered if anyone here could help please.
1) Standby drain, seems like many people have this so have downloaded Package Disabler Pro for Samsung and I am experimenting but its not anywhere near as good as my G6 at the moment. Guess this is trial and error but have already disabled much of the Samsung stuff, I'm a little apprehensive when it comes to system packages though as you never know if its going to mess things up completely.
2) On both the AOD and in the android shutter if I get 2 notifications from an app, they both show separately, I have a Xiaomi camera and if I get more than one alert of movement all notifications are separate and I wanted to know how to nest them so it only showed me once that I had notification for that app.. (hope that makes sense) cant find any way to do this. This isn't the problem of double notifications as I've seen but I hope you get what I mean.
3) LG has a built in service called Smart Settings which basically says things like if you go out of your current location turn Wi-fi off , when you get back into your location turn wifi on, if you start this app, turn on bluetooth, if you plug in headphones start this app.. etc..
It appears theres nothing like that on Samsung so could anyone recommend a 3rd part app that may help me achieve this as I miss it.
4) Does anyone know if S9 Plus will get 8.1? or will it go straight to P..
5) Forgot to add, I have a different photo viewer installed, I use F-Stop but for some reason in the camera app when you take a picture and press the gallery button it always defaults to the Samsung gallery app. Does anyone know how this can be changed please?
Thanks for listening guys, any help appreciated.
Wayne
1. Give it a couple of weeks for the system to settle. Just use it as it is without disabling any apps.
2. I don't know if you can do that system wide. I know some apps have that option.
3. Try LLama
4. No idea
5. Open settings and search for "default"
There you should be able to set default apps
I've provided a screenshot so you can see how it looks like
Hope it helps

Twinview missed opportunity...?

I've done a lot of internet searching, and had a couple of chats with Asus support, but I could still be missing something. So, please, correct me if I'm wrong (especially if you have hands-on knowledge).
LG has a couple of phones that support adding a secondary screen with a case. When doing so, that secondary screen becomes able to be a touchscreen gamepad for the game on the top screen. Or a keyboard for the application on the top screen.
Everything I've found so far (and confirmed from support) indicates this is not possible with the Twinview. And support can't/won't comment on if it will become at all possible in the future.
It seems to me that this could be a pretty big selling point, especially considering the lack of game support currently in place...
I am pretty sure it will be possible, since you will use ROG PHONE 2 as a keyboard, and the second upper screen as the main screen, since it is 120Hz and got the same resolution of Rog Phone 2.
But I don't think it could be possible, or else they won't sell their KUNAI GAME PADS, since you can use a virtual pad on the lower screen, isn't it? But, a combo with virtual keyboard and main screen, morphing the rog phone into a laptop is very cool, in my opinion!
This would be a great feature/option for the twinview. But from hands-on experience, both screens independently work as its own. Unless supported like Asphalt 9.

Do you happen to have Pokemon GO? Can you tell me if you can use the TwinApps feature + Split Screen, and the TwinView dock to get 2 full size Pokemon GO? If you could try this (you don't need to register for it, just in the login screen is good enough) I'd be so appreciative.

Only few games are currently supporting twinview accessory. Such as Asphalt 9 supports it, so it ads a map/GPS type on phone screen with your controls and then actual driving screen on 2nd display above.
So it's up to the app developer to support this or not, it does not have anything to do with Asus or so.

I can confirm this works, i do this with my ROG 2 and twinview, two independent accounts running simultaneously

S PEN Galaxy Tab S6 (SM-T860) doesn't connect anymore so it is not possible to use suspended actions.

My s6 tab was purchased in late 2019, shortly after launch. I always used it with tcare and had never had any problems. However, for about two days now, he started to report that the s pen was disconnected. After a few attempts to reconnect or after restoring the pen (configuration > advanced features > s pen > three dots > restore s pen) it even reconnects, but when I lock the screen and unlock the message that the pen is disconnected appears again . I've cleared the cache in recovery mode, I've tried to update, I've restored the s pen and the tablet, I've cleaned the part that connects the s pen and the tablet, but nothing solves! Lucky for me, only the suspended actions don't work, as the pen doesn't connect, but the other writing functions and the button still work so far. To avoid the continuous notification that the s pen is disconnected I had to disable the suspended actions.
I believe this is a specific problem with s pen.
I'm super upset with this problem since it's an expensive device and I always took care of the tablet in the best way and never dropped the pen. It is disappointing to have this issue in 1.5 years of normal use.
To make matters worse, the product is no longer under warranty, as more than 1 year has passed, and the s6 tab s pen is not available for sale on the Samsung website in Brazil, which is absurd! How does the company not sell an essential accessory for one of its top-of-the-line tablets?

Unfortunately, I tried all the steps and suggestions, but none of them solved the connection problem.
There is no apparent damage on the S Pen.
It is still working correctly for writing and other functions. The shortcut menu appears and all the related functions to it work fine.
The problem is on the connection or on the battery of the s pen, i don’t know, because the status appears always as disconnected.
I don’t have the air actions, so I can’t configure the remote control functions while using apps, like controlling the camera.
All my apps and the android system are updated. I replaced the s pen tip, I rebooted the tablet in safe mode, I reset the pen (on air actions options), but nothing solved the conection problem.
Finally, I also performed a factory data reset/hard reset on my tablet, but the problem persists.
The tablet tries to connect (takes a long time processing), but it doesn't connect. Appers the message: couldn’t connect to your s pen
Alerting notifications: s pen disconnected
it's very disappointing that in less than a year and a half of normal use such an expensive tablet is already with troubles.
I just wanted to buy a new original S Pen, but it doesn't have it in the Samsung store in Brazil.
What nonsense! A recent device and one of the brand's most modern tablets.
It's very frustrating and disappointing, because I'll have to keep the damaged S Pen and the tablet without all its special features, as announced by Samsung.
Hi,
Really need your help, after I updated my firmware using Odin, updated BL, AP, CP, CSC, my tab cannot boot up stuck in logo. Doing the Power + volume up leads me to different screen now.
What must I do? Pleasssee help. Added the pic, after doing hard reset (power + vol up)
I cannot connect back to Odin also. Always setup connection failed.
Please help.
Thank you in advance.
Seems like the bluetooth receiver on your S-Pen is faulty, so your S-Pen would need to be replaced or repaired. If you have purchased the extended warranty on your device, I would recommend that you take it back to the retailer for repairs.
