Low volume on notifications - Xiaomi Mi 10 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,my Mi 10 has very low volume on notifications (calls, notifications, alarms) although I've set it to max..Its too low sometimes i miss calls or messages..anyone else with the same problems?or any solution?

Try a louder ring tone? Have you cleaned the speakers recently? Could be anything.

I've tried everything, louder ringtone, I've played a video from YouTube for cleaning speakers but it's not the speaker its something from the ui because when i see a video from YouTube or gallery its so loud that i have to lower the volume...its like the system volume its low...

Access developer settings and activate "disable absolute volume control".
I have a niggling feeling that'll be it..

Thank you very much for your help, unfortunately can't find this settings in developer options..maybe they delete it in miui12... :/

The option is there. I have it myself. You need to scroll down a bit.

Nope can't find it... I'll attach a screenshot of my developer options

I don't have that option either. I'm on Global 12.2.1.0 Stable

I concur, it's definitely not there. In older versions it was the first option under the USB section, should have been under Bluetooth as in other phones..
Odd. Very odd. Obviously you've tried setting a known high volume ringtone as a notification and had the same low volume results? The only suggestion I have at the moment is to clear the cache of all apps and reboot.. See if it persists..

Yes...the same sound playing from music app its very loud...when i set it for call/sms/notification its very very low... :/ You suggesting to wipe everything from the boot screen?

If you are on stock rom you can wipe the cache from the security app or via fastboot.
If you are on custom rom you can either download an app to do it or do it via fastboot.
DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING ELSE. ONLY WIPE CACHE.

No im on stock rom,if i wipe the cache I'll loose data from all apps?
Edit:
Sorry for my mistake about loosing data,i cleaned the cache through security app did reboot but nothing...its clearly a bug because its only in system sounds that are low,as i said when playing the ringtone through music app is clearly louder...anyway thanks a lot @shivadow

In all honesty being on a custom rom is probably 99% of the problem. You can always investigate adjusting volume files in root, if at all possible. Some are, some aren't.

Hi try this app, This might work for you.
It will increase ringtone volume to 100% before receiving normal call.
P.S tested on galaxy devices.

Just bought Mi 10 from my friend. Its 3 4 months used. I am also facing the same issue. Notification/ringtone volume is too low. Is this normal ? I have factory reset. Tried every thing. Any solution ?

Your friend faced the same issue?maybe something goes wrong when you do factory reset because my phone was like yours,i bought it 4 months old and did factory reset...Anyway,the only solution that I've settled is using an app from playstore "volume booster-speaker booster & Sound booster" and ot works for me,if you download the same app every now and then open it and exit because the system stops it..!(for example if you clear the recent apps from the tab)

Thanks for the response. I will definitely try this. I again and again reset the phone but problem it still there. I think the issue is only with ringtone/notifications because in youtube i have no complaints regarding low sound

It seems that no one is experiencing this again... well that's Android... now I know..

In every operating system you'll find problems noone else seems to have encountered.
Do you mean the recording sound the device emits when going into Camera mode or the audio capture of the video?

Hi mate, I'm referring to shutter sound (The sound when you take a picture)... I like my camera to have shutter sound, I searched the web and everybody is asking how to disable shutter sound of S3 but mine doesn't have sound...
I'm not sure when did this happen but I know that there's a shutter sound when I last used it..
PS: I'm not even rooted mate, all is stock, current firmware is LFB...

The camera sound files are stored inside a system folder on your phone. I was going to say to check to see if the files are there and play them to ensure they aren't corrupt. However, if you are not rooted, you may not be able to access them.
If you reflash your current stock rom or update your rom to the latest version from Samsung, I believe that can fix your problems.

How can it be corrupted mate if I didn't do anything to my phone (Just regular use). Previously I also had a problem with OTA update and I needed to clear the data of Software Update for it to run again.
I'm really starting to believe that this is really a buggy piece of software (Android or maybe TW of Samsung)... Even the Accuweather widget is not auto refreshing if I restarted the phone and I need to clear again the data for it to auto refresh again or run normally.
Sorry I'm just frustrated
After doing everything I could (Except the Factory Reset), my camera shutter sound is still not working.
I tried to Clear the data of camera app, restart the phone, shutdown and reopen the phone, shutdown and remove the battery then reopen the phone, tried to uninstall some apps I recently installed, and still no shutter sound
I'm about to try today the "wipe cache partition" but first I tried again to shutdown and reopen my phone and guess what, now my shutter sound is back!
Only difference is currently I dont have any internet connection on my phone (No Wifi / Mobile data). Weird! :silly:

Everything stock mate... Everything is working fine now... I guess this is a Touchwiz problem or worst this is an android thing. I searched the net and there are others experiencing this using different devices... Maybe this is an android bug, I'm not sure as it hard to replicate this problem and theres no accurate solution... :silly:
Check this if you are rooted
How to enable on/off button for Shutter sound:
Edit /system/csc/feature.xml with text editor of choice.
Add following lines:
<!-- Enable/disable the camera shutter sound -->
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Reboot, Voila, now you can enable/disable shutter sound from camera menu. (I'm on BLG8)
Credits to PaWill
I'm also having this same problem...
Let me start from the beginning...
I got the phone from Vodafone Portugal. It came with the ICS rom, but right away I updated with the first polish JB rom. Also put root on it.
I'm constantly updating roms, so I tried most new roms that were releasing, mostly unbranded roms, from France, UK, India, etc... I did some dirty flashes but sometimes I flashed from the ground, full wipe...
Also, never used a custom rom for example...
I don't remember when did it happen, but somehow, camera stop making sounds, shutter sound and selection sounds... I also lost the sound setting from camera menu options...
I never, but never modified that aspect. And with a option do enable/disable sound shutter, why would I need to disable sound shutter with another method?!?!
A few weeks ago, I was on XELLA, and I added that camera line on the feature.xml file. No sounds I got...
By the way, the camera sounds are on a folder inside /system/ and they work perfectly , they are not broken
Today, I updated, dirty flash over XELLA, the new vodafone rom XERM2. I was with no hope to get the sounds...
I remember to check feature.xml on the system/csc folder to see if it was there, but the file was removed. I had a couple of modifications (including the line for the shutter sounds). So I restored an old backup that I had from the file. I set permissions and reboot.
I got a half surprise, guess what, I regain the Camera Sound settings from camera menu options.
The bad thing is that I still can't get any shutter or any other sounds from the camera app
Any ideas?!?! Please!!! I want Camera sounds back!!! Need help please!!!

Volume+ and MusicFX

Hello. first up im new here but as i have been waiting 3 days for my activation email i have been reading a lot on this forum. but there is one thing i cant seem to find an answer for.
basically like everyone else i have the low audio jack output problem. i dont have a rooted phone and all this talk of pushing files to adjust some core settings really means nothing to me (this is my first Android phone). really couldnt work out if the phone had to be rooted or not.
as i was looking for a solution i came across Volume+ (i believe the inventor is on here and might have found the hard code fix everyone else is using) bought it and gave it a try and can confirm its definitely louder. BUT when i went to Setting -> Sounds, a new option appeared called "sound Effects" or "Music Effects" which gives me option to select between the new Volume+ and MusicFX. literally as i got here pop up screen "MusicFX has crashed" etc etc
is this normal??
what is musicFX? is it actually needed?
do i have to be rooted to do this Hard Code option that most people are using?
any help is greatly appreciated.
cheers

Music FX is the incorporated Samsung sound thing .
Will Vol + and Music FX crash yes in my experience .
Few are using hard code few are using DSP manager and yes you need root .
I can give no advice on sound level as i don't have that problem playing MP3 at level 4 normally .

Enormous problem with playing music

Hi,
I am the proud owner of the HTC One X+ since March. And in the last couple of weeks I have a big problem with my audio.
I like to listen to music, but now it is impossible. This problem only occurs with headphones in. I have tried different headphones as well that I have tried different musicplayers. I have rebooted many times. Tried to listen with Wifi on/off etc...
The problem:
When I listen to music its randomly stops, goes to the next song, fastforward and he even goes to Google Voice and he randomly calls people in my contacts list when I am listening to music. Is there any kind of solution? I have tried everything with my little knowledge. Hopefully has someone the solution to this irritating problem...

Is your cell rooted? Which rom are you running? better factory reset your fone. its a Software issue from what i see..
I agree - its very rude of Google Voice to call people in a random order. At least, it should be alphabetical.....
1. You could try "Clear Data" for the music app and Google voice
2. You could install TWRP in place of the stock recovery. This will enable you to do 3 and 4 below (you can do it with a stock recovery too, but its easier with twrp. TWRP will also allow you to take a full backup of your phone)
3. You could try wiping the cache and dalvik cache
4. You could try booting into recovery and doing a factory reset. You will lose all apps and all data, so make sure you backup your calls/SMS/music/pics/documents etc.
5. If you have come here, then you could try rooting your phone and flashing a custom ROM

Softer Notification sound after 4.4.4 update

I don't know if anyone notice that after updating to 4.4.4,everything is awesome so far except some issues that i just noticed after updated mine this morning.
One major issue im facing is the reduced sound for notification on messages, emails etc.
Volume is set to max yet the sound of notification is greatly reduced. When i tried playing the tones in the library itself, the volume are just fine. They are reduced when notification is received.
Restarting the phone does not fix it. Anyone else experiencing the same?
One more issue is the lowered frame rate in camera mode. Its not as smoother as before update. It lags just like the camera mode on iphones. I still can take well photos though.
UPDATE : i actually did a factory reset and the camera lag indeed disappear! love the fast focus. Or you can just simply clear the camera data in setting and that should do the trick.
Also regarding the notification sound, try to pick a longer and striking ringtone as they tend to sound louder and noticeable even in reduced volume. Using the tone called Soft Bells which serves enough sound of alert. It solves my problem for now. Overall im happy with this update
You need to do wipe data , install a fresh Rom with factory data reset
it is recommended when update from one android version to another like ( 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 )
hmm is there alternative fix option? because i do not wish to go through the hassles of restoring everything..

Is Factory data reset really solve this notification sound issue?
My Z2 with 0.314 firmware had same issue. and new firmware didn't fix it.
Same issue here before 4.4.4 it was really loud
After the update its really low sound, whats going on here? can anyone just confirm if installing a fresh rom solves this issue casue i dont think everyone in the world is gonna fix the issue by installing rom with flashtool...
My Z2 has had really low notifications from day 1 ive tried every single mod known to man also hoped with each new update SONY would fix it which will never happen as the y wont admit theres a problem
If we cant root 4.4.4 how can we apply this mod ?
Sony DOESN'T need to admit as prior to the 4.4.4 update, nobody was complaining about notification sound.

I rooted 4.4.2, installed xposed and viper4android, I cranked up my volumes and all is well. With headset off, I can lower the volume to the last step and it's still pretty loud. Maybe too loud lol.
Anyway, root is beautiful and viper4android is just a requirement for me since my galaxy s3. Look into it, wait for a rooting method and just mess with those sound options for now.
There might be a patch if it's really that bad still.
I think I'll wait for updating to 4.4.4 Thanks for the heads up.

That is not true. On my .314 driven Z2 the notification sound is lower when I get a message or something(I actually tested the thing many times to see if I was right and I was) than when I play the same notification tone in sound picker in settings with media volume taken to maximum. Call ringtones, on the other hand, they work the same, be it settings or nomal day usage.
So there is problem and do little research before you say something that is not truth because many people complained about that. But we didn't spam Sony with it enough so they don't care.
clear audio +
is clear audio helping out? i mean to say that even if there is no xloud included , is sound louder in clear audio + ?
Those mods are for further enhancement and not a remedy as there isn't any existing notification issue prior to 4.4.4
What do you mean further research? It's a fact that notification sound wasnt an issue for majority of users before 4.4.4, maybe I shouldn't blanket it to everyone and there's a sad 1% who claimed to have notification sound issues.

Another issue is the homescreen On the latest 4.4.4 widgets like shortcut widgets disappears when u restart ur phone. every time u have to set the widget manually. Download NQ mobile security open the app, in the app go to settings and add optimization shortcut. u will see a new widget like an icon of a rocket when u restart ur phone it will disappear. in the previous update it used to work fine now it disappears. Same thing happens when u use wdget shortcut like this... BUG IN THE HOMESCREEN! NEVER BUY SONY PHONES!!!
My widgets are fine even after a reboot.

Ringtone and notification are very low now is a fact, Sony doesn't even bother to test their software before sending to us, the only way is to root and to look for a sound enhancement mod, and rooting 4.4.4 is not clear for now, or maybe it's clear for some who doesn't wanna share the knowledge for a step by step how to root guide.
as for the call quality, please go to settings>Sounds>Audio Settings>Mic sensitivity select high
hopefully this will really fix and enhance the call quality.
No it is not... Every widget is fine except the shortcut widget download NQ security I will understand what I am saying give it a try

There is a number of posts with step by step instructions for how to root. It's very simple.
Locked Bootloader
1. Down grade to 4.4.2,
2 root and install recovery for locked bootloader
3 install rooted 4.4.4 zip through recovery.
Unlocked bootloader.
1 flash a kernel with recovery
2 flash Superuser zip through recovery
