is there any custom rom working or being developed for Moto G9 Power XT2091-4? - Moto G9 Power Questions & Answers

Hi there! I was running Lineage OS in a Moto X Play that was having battery issues, so I've changed it and now I'm using a Moto G9 Power XT2091-4 and I'll like to know if there is some custom rom already working for this device or if someone is developing it: I would like to contribute in any way to get it at soon as possible. Should I check somewhere else?

Me too I'm still waiting for a custom recovery for the cebu firmware just want custom rom for hotspot I'm not able to get it working on stock rom

No, there is no custom ROM or a custom recovery at the moment. The Moto G9 Power (cebu) device and vendor trees are yet to be made/released by Motorola, which is the first step towards building custom anything. Nor have the kernel sources been released, though that is not as important, for now, we can make do with the prebuilt kernel while developing.
I was going to look into trying to make the trees, but life is in the way currently, and I am busy till like May or such. Also, I want to wait until Moto releases the 11 update

Great to know, thanks for sharing your plans. Let me/us know ways to contribute to make a custom rom for this device.

I got mine rooted, if theres anything i can do to help... Im still pretty green with all this but if theres anything i can do im there

Yes me too I don't have much python experience but I am able to use my phone for testing if necessary whatever I can do to release a rom, don't know exactly what this "tree" is but I can investigate if provided some direct sources for the cebu model of moto.given that android linage os has been released to g7 it couldn't be that difficult to rebuild it to work on g9 cebu?

after you rooted g9 power ,does the battery drains faster?

Not that I have noticed. I mean I do more with it. I run more apps that are power hungry. But its consuming power as I would expect it to. Honestly the battery life is the best I ever had in a smart phone. Sorry I wish I knew an answer for ya. Only thing i can think is reflash it to stock and give it a go from the beginning.

[DEV] Building Android for SDE

Since SDE was released, who wants to build some fresh and shiny android which might be running someday side by side with AVOS (Archos Android)?
What do we need (openembedded?)?
Installation of Other OS:
root: /mnt/storage/rootfs.img
kernel:
Reboot into Recovery Mode (howto)
Recovery System -> Developer Edition Menu -> Flash Kernel and Initramfs
Connect USB and copy "zImage" and "initramfs.cpio.gz" to the Archos
Unmount Archos on PC (safe remove)
Press ok on Archos
Don't you think dev's are already working on this right now?
OpenAS is a site to look at, there are a few in fact and some even on XDA.
your instructions are sort of nothing anyone who has booted the angstrom distribution can see that?
this thread is a bit pointless. your asking for devs to create something they are already working on and you can't help as you don't know how?
no, you just missed the point. I AM (or want to be) a dev, see my other thread about dvb-t support
and now I'm looking for some help and informations.
this thread should be dedicated to building gen8 android (2.2 / 2.3 / ...) roms, I don't care much about angstrom.
I'm not one of those annoying guys who just complaining about others work, I want to get my hands dirty and do some work! I already checked openaos out, there a lot of informations about gen6 and gen7 but not gen8, this is why I started this thread here.
summarizing informations, that's the point.
ok fair enough
it's more likely though someone will do a port and use it over the current android system as apposed to using the SDE. Most dev's will be concentrating on other O/S's such as Ubuntu etc.
I can see why you want to do it but im not sure it will be done this way. We havent even managed to get perm root yet, sadly the archos wont get a lot of love I fear.
we have perm root, just use SDE and put an android in it we can decide everything
edit: either you hack the gen8 and get rid of SDE and archos' android and put whatever you want on it or you stay with SDE and dual boot (sounds a less "brickable" choice to me)

I have no idea what you're talking about, but I say go with your dreams and keep up the good work (whatever work that may be).
Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it (whatever "it" may be). Any contribution to making my A70 better is a + in my book.

But it's pointless having android 2.2 / 2.3 running alongside android 2.2 / 2.3
it would be a complete waste of time especially as archos are currently working on it anyway.
It would achieve nothing, the SDE would be much better used running ubuntu/winxp or other, running android as a secondary boot option is a waste of development time and I cant see anyone wanting to do it?
by all means join in getting a good distro to run but not another version of android when all we are missing is root anyway. I think your getting confused as to what SDE is used for.
why would someone want to run ubuntu on this hardware? winxp is out of scope as it doesn't support arm processors.

why shouldn't we have root in SDE?? The SDE is the only way (so far, gen8 hasn't been hacked yet) to get perm root and custom roms.
why won't you just use SDE to run custom android roms? why it has to be ubuntu or any other bloated linux distribution?

no it's not, because archos won't let us do customizations. it would be easy for archos to let us perm root everything but they won't. so what are you going to do to make android comfortablier and less buggy on gen8? a) hack it and flash custom roms and may brick it or b) use sde and flash custom roms without the possibility to brick it

Agreed, who cares if you have more then one build of Android on a device? On other devices people have developed their own method of doing this exact thing. SDE is a great idea to let people load custom ROMs onto their device without fear of bricking. Now if someone would just get one developed....

Archos have released the source code, the only thing that's missing is Root.
The distro is already pretty close to stock even the BT stack is android native allowing us to use wiimote etc.
Archos have done a pretty "pure" android release Cynogen's goal is get a pure android rom working. Stock it's not that far away now?
and what about ISO, windows 7 (mobile), tiny linux, yellow dog, many other great distro's. All im saying is wait until root is achieved (it's being worked on) nd see what happens to the default android then.
Your may be jumping the gun a bit developing something that's not needed

was agreeing with you until this post.
the point is that Archos have up until now done a bit of a shoddy job of their Android builds. We all want the archos tablet running smoothly and as best we can and also would like to have 2.3+ on our devices which is probably unlikely by any official means.
and saying archos are "currently working on it" is a little silly given what forum you are on! (whats the point in people making custom roms for HTC devices... HTC are working on it anyway?!)
@wazalotofzeros
oh come on, are you kidding me? why is it so hard to understand that a rooted android or even custom roms are wanted by a lot of archos users (see archosfans.com)
whats the point of installing any linux distribution instead of android?
why are you telling me its pointless to do custom roms for the Archos Gen8 while there are custom roms for a lot of other android devices?
I give up, please contribute something useful to this topic or stop posting offtopic.
@waz000000,
don't want to participate in this then don't. There is no reason to put down others work though just because you think it is pointless.
Grand Idea
Personally I think this is a grand idea. At first when I saw the SDE I thought that was its whole purpose and that archos would start us off with a basic android version. But when it was released and it came with a barely working linux distro, it turned me off to installing SDE until something better can happen. I wouldn't mind seeing a micro version of ubuntu running on this, but the main problem is going to be the ram. If we are having issues with the ram on android what makes you think we will have better luck on a OS that wasn't intended to run on the archos. But hey more power to you. But on the other hand if we can build our own android firmwares, then we won't be dependent on Archos to decide whether or not to update to the next firmware. And saying Archos is working on it is like saying well the end of the world is coming. When IDK, but its coming!
Seriously. The delayed the launch by 2 months and then didn't deliver on their promise of launching with 2.2. They did come through, but with the crappiest 2.2 firmware I have ever used. Constant crashing, no wifi N, 200 mhz decrease in speed, and only a promise to fix it... eventually.
So the the OP. Go for it. I will help with what I can, but I haven't build a firmware yet except for the easy cook it yourself ones.

ok fair enough so what would you rather?
a cynogen mod with archos firmware or linux distro (Whatever) and cynogenmod?
im not saying dont work on a custom rom, im saying work on a "proper" custom rom and use the dual boot option for something other than android.
1st step develop root
2nd step develop custom rom
3rd step install another distro
What im trying to say is, develop a "proper" custom rom and leave the dual boot option for something mind blowing!
as to blazingwolf im not trying to put anyone's work down (apart from the fact there isn't any yet this is pure concept)
I could very easily help you develop a working second rom for this but all im saying is wait a little while and see what happens I cant hint anymore than that!!!!!!!!

in the mean time have a look here:

i know its different hardware but use a cynogen beta like the I9000 as a base, and work from there, even try the original firmware and look to cook that one.
you will be surprised how almost stock the archos one is

the purpose of SDE is to give users a way to dual boot and be able to load "another" operating system. The Angstrom image we provide is just a demo and nothing else. You are free to put anything else, like Android 4.0, Meego, Maemo or whatever else you want...

A little something to quench your thirst

Since everyone kept asking and I myself wanted it, I decided to start this project. The main reason why I didn't do it earlier was because I needed Asus to release the Oreo build already so I could get the required files. So for now I leave you with this, hope I made your day a bit better and have a great day!
Note: the build you see here is just so I could get the compiler working.
Sweet!! Looking forward to seeing the progress on this.

Nice to hear that you want to test the rom, but unfortunately I still don't have a flashable build. I try to work on it whenever I can to get one out as soon as possible. Do keep in mind I do this in my free time when I'm not busy with school. When I do get a debuggable build out, I'll let this forum know so I can get some testers to test it out (other than myself).
+)KEV1N(+ you are a savior , please help us get rid this sick twisted ASUS stock firmware , it's a mess in every aspect , heat, poor battery life, muffled sound via headphones, enormous amount of services running in the background (loses 20% overnight), complete failure in both firmware and kernel wise cause they massively overclocked that S625 , i can live with a rom without the main camera app , OpenCam will do just fine , just take care of that power consumption please cause on paper it should deliver 12-16h SOT , it's 5000mah with s625 and AMOLED screen for god sake !
Thank you in advance for your effort.

It is a slow process, especially since this is my daily driver. I just came back from holidays back home and now I'll continue to work on it whenever I get the chance. I'll get a working test build running eventually. Can't guarantee when, just know that as a new developer it'll take time to fix things and put them in place since porting is also not easiest of projects.

I want do downgrade form Oreo to MM, Q: will i need to extract recovery.img form MM zip and flash it separately or the stock Oreo recovery will work with all raw asus builds ?
Build# : ww-11.41.87.2 this is the latest MM update before Nougat update, i'm a little confused cause every build has it's own method so any advice for the safest fastest way to :
1-Downgrade to MM from Oreo
2-Flash Magisk to root and install greenify , viper4android cause i'm done with this Oreo.
3-Do i need to unlock the bootloader ?
4-Do i need twrp to flash migisk?
5-Does twrp work with all versions of android ?
3-What are the cons of this procedure if a custom ROM would fall from heaven and i would want to flash it after i flash MM?

I started at the end of my school year a couple of months back. I had a month-long hiatus in July due to me going back to my family back home. I came back in August and am working on it as a side project. Naman's helping me with this right now and so far we got till the boot animation. And then you have those times when we fix something and you go one step back. It's a slow process since the two of us aren't like 24/7 busy on the project. I usually work on it during weekends, but lately I've been needing my phone more and more since I'm very very busy with other priorities. Again, this is a side project I'm doing because I like coding and I like learning new things. So, I can't say for certainty when we can get a release out, but I work eagerly every time hoping it gets past the boot animation or even gets there if I fix something.
I hope this clears out any misconceptions you may have of me and this project. Have a further great day sir
It's nice to hear from you.

Question Successfully rooted Metro Pcs variant w/ Magisk and stock rom

Ive been rooting and tinkering with various different android phones for years now . Motorola has always been my favourite when it comes to rooting . Now my question is now what? I would love to finally pitch in on development starting with this device seeing as there is very little on this one as far as custom roms and what not. This device reminds me of the G7 Power with the A/B format. I was looking in on possibly bringing Ubuntu Touch to this device and as far as i can tell I just would need to make a halium kernal for it . Can someone maybe help me or tell me how incan possibly help on makimg that happen? Please bare with me . This is my very first time posting on this website . Im very savy when it comes to the android, ios and computers in general , Im running the stock rom and have done very little besides install some root apps. I would love to help out with any kind of development so please someone let me know . Ill be regularly checking my notifications and messages . Cheers!
I'm not a programmer, but I'd love to have LineageOS on my device. I haven't had the opportunity to play with Ubuntu Touch, but I assume that the F-droid store alone surpasses the app development for the Ubuntu Touch. Have fun!
Im suprised more people arent all over this device like when the G7 came out ....this device is awesome and the battery life alone is enough reason to want to buy it ...Guanma FTW!!

What i found appealing about Ubuntu Touch is i recently read that you can now run android apps on it and i totally agree Lineage would be awesome and an obvious first step to take with this device now that we know it can be rooted...also TWRP development is a must
So far I'm really happy with it. The only thing is with how big it is, people with smaller/weaker hands are going to have a tough time. Good to know about Ubuntu Touch supporting android apps!
I too just got a G Play (2021), after spending the past 8 yrs. with my beloved HTC Ones (m7,m9). Ironically, it was Motorola that I left for HTC. I've been somewhat impressed with this phone's performance in stock bloat (I mean stock TRIM). I came in here today not expecting to see much, if anything, on this phone; but I've found enough info to get me started.
TY XDA, for all your hard work.

I have a new Moto G Stylus Metro. Anything for this yet?

Question Where to start building a working twrp and/or roms for moto g power 2021 (borneo)?

Hello all, where would I start in making a working twrp for this phone?
Does anyone know if Motorola has released the device tree/source code for this phone so we can make the roms? LineageOS would be ideal.
Well, I have the same phone. Couldn't find ROMs for it.

look in this forum here, there are a couple floating around for it, I've made one, that I was able to fully flash to mine and has touch (Android 10. there's another that is 11 on here too by another poster), but as there are multiple display options out there it seems for how they were made, that is the sticking point, as not all will behave properly when booted into a recovery like mode it seems. I have tried installing it over bootloader and it will have touch then, but when flashed to recovery the touch never activates properly. So it all likely comes to that, as we'll need combine them in, properly applying proper checks for each display type and having it use the proper driver files, since can't load them all at once or it breaks things.

First place to start: twrpdtgen
Read the "readme"
Also check out:
[DEV]How to compile TWRP touch recovery
Device tree made from A10. Should still be relevant for A11.
Kernel for A10. Unfortunately I don't think Moto released the one for A11 yet. You can ask on their GitHub and devs might consider your request.
TWRP for A11. Touch is working.
Edit : here's a link for the device tree (in text) from A11
maybe this will work

UPDATE: I have a telegram account where we are discussing how to make a custom lineage OS. I'm at the gathering stage and in the process of porting a device tree. I've looked this error up and they say it's because of the ram, but the error recurs at the same point. I have 16gb of swap, too.

The error turned out to be entries in the proprietary-files.text file that needed to be deleted.
@thebestofall007 If you'll suceed. please take in consideration to build \e\ (aka deGoogled Lineage) too.
Here's a couple of interesting links that may help:
https://doc.e.foundation/support-topics/build-e
https://community.e.foundation/t/howto-building-e-roms-a-beginners-guide/26371
Last but not least, we've also suggested them (check here) to setup a "build (V)Machine" by modding this colab notebook to made it device agnostic:
https://github.com/viam1-dev/colab_lineage_build
Hope can "inspire" you.
Thanks in advance.
Does anyone have a complete list of sources so far? I have some experience in the past building ROMs for Android 5 and I wouldn't mind trying. I have a lot of computer resources to dedicate to building as well.

Does anyone know if there is a kernel source? I looked on the Moto github and couldn't find one. Is everyone using prebuilt for the time being? Also, do we need a vendor tree?
Thanks

Question Looking for a little general direction

I picked up one of these bad boys on a pretty deep discount to use as a dedicated retro gaming device. I’m interesting in tinkering a bit and am wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on a good rom choice for my use case ? I’ve already gotten my unlock code and I’m pretty much ready to go at this point !
Most people say CorvusOS and EvolutionX are good gaming ROMs, they both seem to be fast. Some people talk about some sort of ROG gaming rom, though ive never heard of it, or tried it.
But, uhm... upon looking at this devices page.. there aren't ANY custom roms available for your device.
Wow really? That's unfortunate.
Is there any point to Unlocking and installing TWRP / Rooting my device then?

I fiundbthat this is a device good for being your experimental toy-around gadget for tweaks and other such root related changes fun to play around with what you can do but from what I know so uncommonly rooted or used by devs that have any influence on the releases of these roms to really give you the full experience of having a rooted device.

You can root it for kernel optimisations and debloating, while also giving you more customisation control over your device.
TWRP is available, so rooting should be possible with magisk.
