Tips:
1. If you've noticed the display output resolution is not 4K
Go to Settings>Display>HDMI output mode>4K_30Hz (Refresh rate is limited to 30Hz/FPS due to hardware limitations)
2. If you accidentally deleted Netflix app or you want to update YouTube just go to GetApps app (No need to go to some dodgy websites just go to the built in rooted store to get the latest updates)
3. It's really hard to find a custom ROM that is fully working for this Box but you can actually customize it on your own like the attached image below
4. A driver is required for Phoenix Suit to detect the box when plugged in please download a working driver before doing so, if the box is detected you can continue the steps without downloading the driver.

This ROM is tested for Allwinner only but you could try, if you have TWRP recovery...

Just tested this firmware on my box with exact same board ID
Board ID: QL2039 - Q44_V4.0_20200602
The box is bricked, only the red light light on and no blue light when I press power on.
Press the reset once and blue popped up for 2 sec and then again red.
Really no hard feelings here, this box is a trash and I got "cheated" by Banggood selling this as a 4+64 Android 10 device.
It is a modified 7.1 version that looked like 10, so I wanted to get rid of it because lagged or crashed randomly.
@Klein61967 if you have any suggestion happy to hear it. Box still accepts flashing.

Honestly, I really don't know what I can suggest for you to flash. I made this thread to help troubleshoot this box cause I've seen a lot of people complaining about the box like Netflix not working keeps crashing, unwanted UI and Corrupted Roms etc. and yes those specs advertised is obviously fake but this ROM I posted only works with Allwinner H3 Processors it doesn't work on Rockchip, S905W etc. make sure you have Allwinner H3 processor by (carefully) removing the heatsink on top.

Yeah I did that months ago when I got the box and understood that its a fake one. Its an Allwinner H3
Maybe the flash messed up the bootloader or maybe your model use a different one because of the different ROM. Do you include bootloader in your img file? I will try once more (already flashed 3 times)
P.S. It's a good reason for me to buy a new "good" one this time

Some extra news. I found and flashed this one https://mega.nz/folder/y4ZSkbDL#5KLc5vKUWOyBAMmJXfGQZw from this video

The TV box is alive again

thanks for this. it worked, but i want to tell you that the rom android version is 7.0(sdk24) and not android 7.1 as mentioned.

As long as you have the Allwinner H3 chip and this following onboard WiFi chips:
WiFi: SC6256P, SV6256P and SV5256P
then yes it will work.

My board is this. The PC doesn't recognize it and not the card, it doesn't recover from the SD card either.

Hi, @Klein61967 , the system boots fine after (+-) 15 tries (I remove and insert the power cable several times because in those times it is frozen). what is happening with my board, why is that happening?
When the system is running it has no problems, it connects to the wifi well, and it executes the applications perfectly.
any ideas please.

Sorry I don't, I haven't encounter this type of problem before maybe your CPU is overheating make sure you reapplied your heatsink properly after checking it's model or if the motherboard is outside the case don't touch it you're probably shorting the contacts on your motherboard tried it before and sure enough it did freeze.

[Q] Can anyone help me root a dapeng a7 mtk6573

I have a Dapeng A7 mtk6573 Android phone I just purchased. It was supposed to come prerooted but for some reason it did not and the ebay seller wont take it back or exchange it with another one that is rooted like the original item description said he would. So Im not sure where to go from here. I tried Superoneclick and didnt get very far with it. I am still new to the whole rooting process but i managed to root and rom my Evo 4g without bricking it multiple times. I can follow any directions given just need some help to be pointed in the right direction on how to get this one rooted. Can anyone help?
hi, sorry fo my english
you must download a russian modded recovery here: ge.tt/5UwovRF/v/02
you must flash it with flash tool,...(see many guide in internet if you no know)
after you must enter in it, you pull power and vol+ together,
and install this file: ge.tt/1ili71F/v/0
after you had disabled verification of signature.
so reboot your phone

But the SuperOneClick download is detected as virus, so I have downloaded it from xda-developers

SuperOneClick does not work on my Dapeng A7. Instead I use adb remount, then adb push superuser.apk into /system/app. This works.
Please note that adb remount does not always work. I have to try a few times. Most of the time, I got success by turning USB debugging on only after I connected the phone and umount USB drive.
Dapeng A7 1gb rom custom recovery
I have good news for 1gb Dapeng A7device owner (aka e1108_v73_hjy2a7) who wants to root/backup their phone.
I just finished modding a custom recovery based on 512mb recovery by replacing original boot.img with 1gb boot.img and tested to work fine (credit to linerty for the base of 592zn.com recovery image file)
To use this, please make sure you have 1gb rom via engineer mode by typing *#*#3646633#*#* on dialpad and choose Memory > Nand Flash ... if it states
Name : KBY00U00VA_B4, ID: 0xecb3, total size 1024mb
Click to collapse
then this recovery is for you.
Using 512mb recovery on 1gb device will show below error due to missing partition when boot into recovery:
E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:can't find MISC:
E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:can't open CACHE:recovery/log

here is Dapeng A7 1gb custom recovery:
http://www.4shared.com/archive/83g2LqtZ/dapeng_a7_1g_rec.html
Dapeng A7 1gb scatter file: http://www.4shared.com/office/XWtNUNVL/MT6573_Android_scatter_dapeng_.html
make sure you download both files
Use SP flash tool, load the scatter file, make sure you only tick recovery and choose the img file ... remove battery and usb cable, press download on SP flash tool ... insert battery .. then insert usb cable (you have 15 sec to do this) ... once it finish, remove and reinsert battery, hold Vol up + power to boot into recovery
-------- after booting into the custom recovery -----------
Now you can flash the uniroot2.signed.zip to root it (get it here) or make nandroid backup, flash custom zip etc. (to flash custom zip - eg: custom rom, make sure toggle signature verification to disable 1st)
512mb device (e1108_v73_hjy1) please use the custom recovery as stated here.
Note : It is advisable to make a full factory backup using mobileuncle gscript after rooting your device as stated here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27039072
Disclaimer: please understand that I'm just trying to help and do not take any responsibilities if you brick your device. (mt6573 devices won't easily brick if you have your backup or the right factory firmware - simply run SP flash tool and overwrite for factory firmware or use recovery mode to restore backup)
ps : recovery mode is good until you mistakenly flash preloader/dsp_bl/uboot img file .. other than these 3 files, the phone should be up and working after restore.
Problems with our two DAPENG A7 and mobiles-phones.cn
Problems with our two DAPENG A7
Hello,
(sorry for my english, it's not my first language)
We bought two Dapeng A7 from mobiles-phones.cn last month. both of them failed within a month !! The first one had video bugs and could not take phtos and videos anymore (cost 26€ to return it back)
The second one has no more microphone and needs an earphone to work !!
A friend of mine just received the DAPENG A75 last week and has a flash LED problem.
So, take care with these Dapeng products wich are not reliable (we had a chinese H7300 wich was very good) at all. Don't hesitate talking about chinese phones troubles on this forum, it could be good for someone hesitating to order over there.
Bye
DAPENG A7 = MT6573
DAPENG A75 = MT6575
Please do not mix between the models. Btw, have you tried restore to factory/factory reset? maybe it's only a software bug.
Dapeng A7 1gb firmware backup
Hi all,
After going through much trouble .. I finally managed to extract Dapeng A7 1gb rom (e1108_v73_hjy2a7) in the form of img files so that others can try revive their bricked Dapeng A7 1gb phone via spflashtool.
Take note that this is only for Dapeng A7 1gb nand/rom ONLY. Please check via dialpad *#*#3646633#*#* and choose Memory > Nand Flash.
http://www.4shared.com/archive/n3y60_1L/backup_dapengA7_e1108_v73_hjy2.html
This is unrooted, untouched firmware. So if you want root, refer to my previous post on how to root using custom recovery and uniroot2signed.zip
Now I don't have the phone anymore. So I wish all the best to those who wants to revive their phone due to wrong flashing/etc.

A ton of this info is coming from freaktab.com and some other russian/german sites that ive found. Including the chinagadgets.com updates page for the m8 boxes.

Root:
Rooting these boxes seems to be incredibly simple. They are either prerooted or can be done easily.
Kingoroot app , and kingo superuser app got me enough access to Install img twrp via Rashr app all avalible via the playstore. As well as you can use the updater app to install roms in zip format using the stock recovery without twrp but backups are important! Theres a few recoveries out there for our boxes. Some work for the clones, some dont.
You need to verify if you have the s812 chipset or not.
**************************************************************************************************************************************************
:HOW TO ENTER RECOVERY MODE:
To enter the recovery stock or not, there are multiple methods.
Using a toothpick and pushing the reset button inside the AV port ( Harder/nonrooted )
1.) At the bottom of the AV jack hole is the reset button.
Using a tooth pick hold this button in. You know you have pressed it if you feel the click.
2.) Now plug in the power cord.
3.) While holding the reset button down, wait until you see the logo and you can then release the reset button.
done: The recovery menu should now be shown and the device should update.
ALT For rooted devices:
1.) Install romtoolbox lite and Give romtoolbox superuser permissions
2.) Use the rebooter function inside the app to enter recovery mode. (easier)
To install the custom recovery I used [Root] Rashr - Flashingtool app to install the custom TWRP recovery, this also can be used to install the image files. The images are only the recovery, or boot images for the device. Im assuming here that these images should match the firmware version you are on. IE: 4.4 needs the 4.4 boot/recovery not the 5.1 . The Zips contain the correct boot images for the roms and will flash everything in one shot. The images are a seperate source for modding as well as using the usb flash tool or the apps i suggested. The files came prezipped together to be used with the pre installed updater program on most boxes, Its alot lighter to only update what you need.

Identifying the model is good, but identification of your chipset is the important part. These boxes are heavily clones and sold as whatever the distributor said it was. And a lot of times it wasnt what you thought it was.
Rkxxxxx S8xxxxx Txxxxxx Etc is how you will be locating the correct firmwares for your devices. Im hoping that in the future we can go cross platform/chipset by including the correct boot.img and xml/build.prop files for the right chips and the software will be universal (ish)
See post #2 for Universal rom Flash.
Highly suggest only using TWRP and backing up to your external SD.
the build.prop and the boot.img are both twrp flashable files.
these also can be used to put your stock boot.img or build.prop after flashing a universal softwear rom to gain all
your device specifics back. the custom one is based on m8s/+ models and was off a 16gb device so both 8/16 can flash.
you can alos use the app zipme to make your own flashable zips. great for backing up certain files.
remote.config is another one thats important to backup from your original build the device shipped with!
how to adjust twrp screeen size
screen size is to big on my tv i cant navigate some keys on my usb keyboard,, imean i cant navigate twrp properly using my navigation keys on my wireless key board...pls help thanks
Hey man first of all big thanks for the THREAD, is very hard to find some information about all of this you have no idea how this thread can help us with these android TV devices (F**** smart TV's)
So i have a S82 Plus, with the android 5.1.1, kernel 3.10.33, fimrware 101L1 and running silk and smooth the only problem for me is the remote controler that i bought... doesn't work well some keys and functions just dont work!! and i don't know why..
And i was thinking maybe i just the ROM because if i put to work with my computer works fine, if i put it with my S4 works well too...

Goal to get a fully working 5.1 rom whit working wifi and remote in img because my M8S cant get into recovery whit SD card toothpick method

I hope that this becomes a place to collect and develop M8, M8S M8S+ roms
I recently bought m8s+ and wondering if we can get latest 6.0 firmware on this tv box btw it came with 5.1 Lollipop.
I second that also make sure the MyVegas app works from google play. It didnt with the last firmware

And so when i flash a new rom i get this error: unexpected transfer list version [1 ]
I tried to change version with notepad++ and the error no longer appears but the firmware cannot be flashed because the installation starts but doesn't complete!

docooler M9S-Pro

My M9S-Pro finally arrived. It's a modest AmLogic S905 chip with a Mali-450, notably only because it has Ethernet, three USB ports, 3 GB of RAM and a 32 GB ROM.
My kids use the Nexus Player as a gaming device, but I am constantly running out of space even with Marshmallow's USB space reallocation (which does not work perfectly by any means). I bought this hoping to replace the Nexus Player which only has 8GB (+ whatever Marshmallow offers, and whatever some apps will allow transfer to external storage).
Right off the bat, it boots quickly and is stable. It included Kodi, some generic TV streamer with pay TV streams in foreign languages, a file manager, Antutu, various video players, and Netflix. The USB port puts out enough current to power an external 2.5" HDD.
Antutu score is 31,300 if that matters to you.
I found a version of TWRP that worked great and I rooted this by flashing the same beta-SuperSU as I used on my Nexus Player.
It uses an IR remote with shortcuts to different apps and a mouse function. It's slow but usable. I use it with an airmouse with a better experience.
I am running HAL Launcher which is just about the best experience you can hope for with a Chinese box. I also added the keylist for the Bluetooth controllers from the OUYA that I had years ago, and my kids use it for a gaming box.
It's a good value for me, but if you use Android TV boxes for streaming only you don't need the space and should probably get a cheaper box - maybe one running 6.0+ so it supports the latest version of Kodi.
Now that I have TWRP and root, I am looking for an AOSP experience.
Are these available for AmLogic systems? I've seen RemixOS for certain AmLogic boxes, but they're all a bit different and haven't tried experimenting with that yet.
How did you get this device rooted and how did you boot it into TWRP?
If rooted the Docooler, could I run a Long Term Release of Ubuntu or Mint on it. I've used Linux with our Brother MFC-J835DW and its simple to print from any Application. Android not good at all. 2nd is with Ubuntu I can set up multiple guest users in various Languages "English" " "Spanish" etc. so a guest can log on , browse, print, done.
On Android it seems to remember Users, not sure how to delete,
Very hard to print "share",
Doesn't appear to allow set up to multiple users so can only run as 1 language.
I really like that these boxes have separate monitors, keyboards, and appear not to require a fan as we are at the beach with a lot of salt air. All my connections require DiElectric Grease from Autozone so as not to corrode. Even better would be a sealed heat sink case.

dow did you root the device?
@alexxdj,
You'll need to do two things.
First, download TWRP for AmLogic devices. The link is below for a whole bunch of them.
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/16228-twrp-for-amlogic-devices
I don't remember which one I used, but I believe it was for a Minix S905 device. As long as it's S905, they are similar enough that you should be okay. Make sure it is scaled properly when you use it.
Then you'll need to download ChainFire's SuperSU.
https://download.chainfire.eu/743/supersu
Copy both files to a SD card. TWRP will be bootable, but you will need to press/hold the button that's hidden in the audio out jack. I simply used a pin. So, unplug the unit, insert the SD card, insert the pin, then plug it back in and wait for it to boot to TWRP.
If all looks well, great. You will need a mouse for this part.
Flash SuperSU as normal. Reboot.
After I booted, I actually had to run the supersu APK to make it work properly. I used Root Explorer (since it opens files in zip files with ease) to do this.
I hope this helps.
thanks for your information but where is this hidden button? I cant find it!!!
It's in one of the audio jacks in the back of the unit. Open it up if you need to see it: it comes apart easy and goes back together easy.
Otherwise get a long pin or needle and poke in the jacks until you feel it click.

i found it is the spdif jack thanks. do you remember if needs to rename the recovery? Because i downloaded the recovery for minix s905 but i cant boot it to twrp
Try naming it 'recovery.img'
The recovery should not be zipped. Extract the IMG file if it is.
yes i know that. maybe i tried wrong recovery. after 2 times failed to boot to recovery. when i release the button? when i show the android and starts to erase?

I press and hold it until the TWRP logo appears.
I think you have the wrong recovery. Try the MINIX MX one. AmLogic makes a lot of devices, and the S805, S812, S905, and S912 all require different recoveries.
You need to make sure it's for the S905. Google is your friend here.
After I successfully rooted, I ultimately decided to flash TWRP itself on my box.
i tried 50 recovery for s905 form yesterday but nothing. Cant boot to twrp!!

Apologies, I didn't realize the URL to Freaktab was truncated. I've corrected it now.
TWRP for AmLogic Devices
Try a few of these. There are only 31, and over half of them can be discounted because they are not for the S905.
If I remember right, I used this one:
/TWRP_MiniMX.img

is there any update for this tx box?? and why do you want to install TWRP? I use it only fr install roms but I can´t find any for this model

[ Amlogic S905 x TV BOX ] - Is it possible to flash any other S905x based ROM ?

Hello,
Ive bought some China TV Box, Mecool M8s. It has [ Amlogic S905 x ] - SOC with Android Smart TV 7.1.1
There are no custom Roms around. The Stock ROM is ugly, buggy and Smart TV restricted. Its not able to use it like i want to.. After an half an hour of using it, Apps partially stop reacting, while the Rest of the System works partially normal, Movies are async, after operating with ext. HDD until i restart and i can only use Aptoide Appstore.
- Is it possible to flash some Custom ROM from any other System with the same SOC?
- Are there Differences, between other S905x based devices that are important? Like HDMI / GPU?
- What is important for choosing another rom, from antoher System? Like PU / GPU combination / Power Supply etc

7. APPLY POWER (hold reset!)
8. After few screen flashes, let go of the reset and proceed.
My question is: is it possible to flash the Mibox firmware on some other s905x tv box?

MECOOL KM9 Unbrick S905X2 2/16 GB

I bought a MECOOL KM9 android box from the flea market. The Android on it was something custom from some IPTV service provider. On the bottom it says KM9 so I downloaded firmware from here. Using Aml_Burn_Tool the flashing got stuck at 30%, left it for about two hours didn't budge. After this the computer does not recognize the device (no plug-in sound, tested on two computers) and there is no output on HDMI.
So, I got to method two, which is the SD card burned with Burn Card Maker (multiple versions). Tested several firmware, several SD cards, no luck.
Opened up the device to get the serial output, you can find the output attached. Taking a closer look at the board I saw that is marked as: KM1 X2 DDR3 v1.4. The pcb doesn't look like the KM1's pcb and the SoC is different too. My board has Amlogic S905X2, the KM1 has Amlogic S905X3. Also, the pcb doesn't look like the KM9 board either.
The output log is the same regardless having an SD card or pressing de recovery button. It stops with "sdio read data fail". I don't think the EMMC is broken, earlier in the log it says "Load FIP HDR from eMMC" and there is no error. Also, if I have a bootable SD, shouldn't the EMMC be skipped?
As a last resort I tried shorting pins on the NAND chip, the computer still wouldn't detect it however if i short pins the serial output changes, again file attached.
Any ideas? Can I bring it back to life? At least does anyone have this board and firmware for it?
Thank you,
Alex

In which country? Do you have the provider information? That information might help identify or locate the original build of the firmware.

It's too late now, but it would have been best to connect the uart and dump the original firmware before flashing anything. I understand that the label on the cover is wrong and that it does not match the board, but if you had a backup you could start over. Now, the drm keys (if any) are probably gone and the wrong dtb seems to have been flashed. Maybe it still can be fixed since the bootloader does still boot somewhat, but that may not be the original bootloader but rather the one that was flashed before the flashing failed.

There are different types of SD booting. For the lowest level booting, the emmc is skipped only if no bootable bootloader is found on the emmc.
It also will be skipped if the emmc clk resistor is removed. 4R1 may be the emmc clk resistor. Check if it is zero ohms. If it is not zero ohms, check the other side of the board.
Once the device is always booting from the SD card, try various videostrong (not skyworth!) firmware for S905X2 devices, like the KM3 and others (such as the KM9 Pro, which uses the X2). I don't see any information for this KM1 X2 device. It may be a custom variant for OTT providers.
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer.
All I can remember is that it was something Polish. You are right, having the original firmware would have been great. I usually check how much info there is on the internet (mainly xda) about the device I want to flash. If there is a lot, I don't bother with backup. Miiiistake. I didn't knew about the clk resistor and I assume others either because people don't mention on the internet. They recommend shorting the pins which is not a great idea in my mind. I did it with a random 330 ohm resistor to be on the safer side. I will definitely try to get the box to boot from SD and then try firmware from KM1 to KM whatever they got up to with the X2.
From your experience are these devices picky about the SD card? It would be easier if I test only with one card.
The DRM keys you mentioned, would stop the device from booting or the box just wont play Netflix and other streaming services? Even without Netflix I would like to get the box going.
I will have to lookup what a DTB file is, I have no idea. The board looks to be custom as there is one other picture I found about the device here.
Just for my knowledge, the bootloader for these devices is also in the main EMMC? I am used to x86 where you have an external memory to keep first stages of bootloader.
I attached closeups on the EMMC and the back, maybe we need them further on.
Thanks again for the reply,
Alex

Based on those photos, there is a chance that your board is (or is compatible with the firmware from) the KM9 PRO or the KM9 PRO DELUXE.
If this is the case, the state that your device is in now is probably a result of trying to flash an android 9 firmware image to a device that had an existing installation of android 10. If so, there is a decent chance that you can fix it.
You may be able to get a uart shell prompt by experimenting with shorting the emmc clk at various times, so that the attempt to load the invalid dtb (from the flashed firmware) fails. If you can get a uart shell prompt, you can start burn mode (uart shell command "update"), and then use command line tools to flash the km9 pro or km9 pro deluxe firmware.
Otherwise, remove the emmc clk resistor (once it is located), and raw copy the bootloader (from km9 pro or km9 pro deluxed) to the sd card. It isn't necessary to put the resistor back when you are done, a jumper wire can be used since it is zero ohms.

The KM9 devices use DDR4 memory, my board has DDR3. Can the firmware still be compatible?
I don't know. Maybe if the dtb has support for both types of ram. You'd have to check the dtb.
If you flash the dtb while watching the uart output, you'll know if it will work. But first you'd need to be able to start fastboot or have access to the uart shell, in order to flash it.
Support for both types of ram is not uncommon. For example, the sdmc dv8555 (S905x2) has multiple hardware versions, some with ddr3 and some with lpdd4, and both boards use the same firmware.
The original dtb and bootloader on your device are probably gone. They probably were overwritten before the flashing failed at 30%. You don't have much to lose by trying the other firmware, except perhaps a lot of your time.
I will try for sure. As you sad, there's nothing to loose. I probably shouldn't even bother (it was less then 10 dollars), but I hate contributing to e-waste, specially when the hardware is fine, the issue is software. And it's kinda my fault .
