Anyone remove or lessen blur effect? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 / S7 Plus Themes, Apps, and

The stock blur effect that happens when pulling notification menu down, or viewing recent apps, is way too intense for me. It also ends up brightening my black background because I think it's averaging the color across the entire display as it blurs. If the max blur was maybe 5-10% of what it currently is, i wouldn't have an issue with it. Though I would just prefer it to darken the background instead. Would I need root to fix this? I attached some images showing off the issue.

Maybe I didn't get the issue right.
AFAIK you can change this effect by using a different launcher. No root needed.

[Q] Desktop Nightime Clock?

It seems that HTC has deleted the old Sense desktop clock I had on my Dinc. I have tried several new clocks but they all have a backlight in the dim mode that is very bright in a dark room and I assume it also consumes a lot of battery.
Does anyone know a clock app that has a "black" screen, meaning not backlit, that also turns off the red LEDs. I have tried Desktop Plus, Alarm Clock plus, Clock Saver, etc.
I tried to find something like this as well and just ended up using the stock alarm clock and turning the screen on the phone off when I go to bed...
Look for Relax and Sleep in the market. I don't use it for an alarm but it has a nice desk clock mode. Doesn't seem too bright at night to me either.
Thanks for the input. I tried the app and it is still pretty light in the dark--again it is backlit. However, this app made me think about Lighting Bug which is similar (also a sound machine). I opened it and it has a number of clock mods you can do and it might be the darkest screen yet.
I use Locale with the shortcut plugin. I tell it to turn the brightness down to 20% when docked and it's after 9pm. I also have it launch the clock app. The combination works great.

I use Kaloer Clock and its awesome...tons of settings and its free. I have an orange led alarm clock with no backlight and 10% brightness.....works perfect and also has a screen saver setting to prevent burn in(although i dont know if burn in is really an issue on this phone..any thoughts?) Def check it out though
Interesting. So you guys are talking about being able to always see the time?
Yeah, might worry about burn in but that would be handy.
Thanks for this Kaloer Clock app. This one looks like a winner. It has the darkest screen, most settings, screen saver, and button lights out. Can't ask for more than that and it solves my problem.

Thank for showing me this app. It has the darkest screen I've seen, a lot of custom settings, and is exactly what I was looking for. I put it on 1% dim, dark blue letters, no button lights, full screen, and keep screen on--it's a winner. It'll be sweet dreams tonight.

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for but I thought HTC had removed it. I just never waited long enough for it to take effect. Simple with the darkest screen. I do wish there was someway to activate it sooner but the screen is dark, time moves around the screen, and it turns off the buttons.
Thanks
I have found Gentle Alarm to work well. Was free a while back on Amazon's FAOTD. I use it on both my Touchpad and Rezound when we travel.

Well, I think they call it "image persistance" or something. I've seen it on LCD monitors at work. I work on software that has a constant image (not a pic, but the software layout stays in one place) on one of the monitors and while most of the icons did not have a burn in, if you were at the desktop you could see a distinct line across the screen where there was a separation of screen elements on that monitor. So when watching a quicktime on that monitor's desktop level you could see a horizontal line through it. I don't know why just that one line showed up since the icons are usually permanent (they can be changed but usually once someone programs their setting that's what they use). The only thing is those are clicked and the button changes when that happens so maybe that's why.
Anyway, I'll wait for reports back before I use one of these clocks with my phone.

That sounds good, I like that it moves on the screen. I can't find out how to activate it though. Where are the settings?
If you go to the HTC Desk Clock (not the dock) and just leave the screen open, in about 5 minutes the small night clock will automatically start and the button lights will go out. There are no settings that I am aware of.
Sadly, after trying night clock last night, it is backlit like all the rest. The backlight is very bright in a dark room IMO. I just got out my old Dinc, went to the Desk Clock, and it has a button toward the bottom of the screen that lets you activate the night clock. Also the background is absolutely black, not backlit.
Still trying to find that dark screen with clock!!!!!

[Q] Dynamic contrast/Backlight pulsating at very specific brightness

I have a couple of "issues" with the phone. Not sure if its software related or hardware related. Maybe you guys can check on yours too see if it happens. This is all on stock ATT rom
It seems the One has "dynamic contrast" enabled by default. When scrolling on webpages, for example, if I come to an area with a dark advertisement, the brightness adjusts very slightly most of the time. Thats all well and good but the annoying thing is that it does it in steps causing quick blinks of the backlight. Its most pronounced at medium brightness. The same "blinking" happen when autobrightness wants to set the brightness to a very low level . It does it in very discrete steps and it takes a long time for the brightness to settle to its minimum.
If i set my brightness to 50% (most prevalent when the slider is under the "t" in brightness) I get a VERY subtle, but constant pulsating of the backlight. Again, Its a very subtle but my eyes pick it up regardless and its distracting as hell. I wouldn't mind it if autobrightness didn't hit this brightness level, but it does sometimes indoors. The effect is best seen on a mixed white and color screen, like a homescreen with a white widget and most websites. If the brightness goes a bit above or below this level, the pulsing goes away . Anyone else seeing this? maybe it happens at a different brightnesses on different screens.
Thanks
I noticed this when watching a video today. Maybe it only happens if you have autobrightness on?
Sent from my HTC One
It happens with autobrightness off for me. I actually tested it a bit more. I happens on a variety of backlight settings depending on what's on the screen.
At approx. 33% brightness (im using an app called screen adjuster to set the system brightness to a specific value), the screen does heavy pulsating on an all white image. For example, if I go to "about:blank" in the web browser. I can be seen on a desktop screen with a white widget or the settings menu.
Same thing at 40. Worst is 33% though. I have a feeling its dynamic contrast going haywire at certain brightnesses. If you turn the screen off then on, it doesnt do it for a second or 2, but then it will start. I haven't been able to find a demo unit anywhere around me to test this out. So if someone can check this on their device, I would appreciate it. Please use Screen Adjuster to get a definitive reading on the brightness. (Use the slider in "system brightness" to set it to a specific brightbess) and go to "about:blank" in the default browser
hi..
i had the widget set on the third setting, the fourth being the brightest. i had the same problem with my first phone and thought at the time it may have been a backlight problem? or power flow problem? i sent that phone back and the next phone did the same? after posting on here.. i removed the widget and manually adjusted the brightness. i like the screen quite bright, manual adjustment cleared the problem for me. i gotta say yep the flicker was more visible on screens with alot of white, google, facebook, texts? and way way annoying! i can only suggest you try the same as i did? perhaps it is just a quirk with the htc? or maybe the os? you never know, when the update to keylime or whatever it is called comes out the flicker may go totally?
JUST had this on facebook? hope it helps?

Thanks for the response. I ended up looking at 4 more devices at 2 different stores and they all had the flicker. The sales associates even saw it. I got tired of doing exchanges and I ended up reversing my upgrade. Im going to wait and see what happens with this issue. Hopefully it gets sorted out with a firmware update, because otherwise its an awesome phone. Its a shame that the $100 trade-in offer is going to end by then and I wont be getting a free medialink device, but atleast i'd be able to get it in black, which is what I originally wanted.
Ive noticed this too and its really annoying me. Ive tried multiple roms including the new asop carbon rom and its even on that.

In addition to the phones I exchanged, every display model that I've come across has had it. I'm was a bit surprised at first that not many people have come across this. I'm starting to think that maybe the One has a PWM backlighting, which some folks are sensitive to and some don't even notice. I'm in the former category and I think you are too. It a shame really that this problem exist. Besides that, I couldn't find any other faults with the phone. It was perfect in every other aspect
I've run Into the same exact behavior using the HTC droid DNA with both sense 4+ and sense 5 ROMs. I smell tomfoolery afoot.
Screen Flicker
I'm glad I'm not the only one that has noticed this. It doesn't stay that way very long for me, but it is quite annoying. Seems to happen when there's a white or light-colored background the most. So I guess there's nothing specifically wrong with my phone and we'll either have to live with it or wait until someone figures out how to fix it?
I guess most people don't notice this.m it's extremely irrational going between this and my tablet and having the black.ighting flashing in my face when I scroll through webpages.

Lollipop on ZU- what am I missing?

Got the OTA update to L on my 6833. Yes, it has made the already smooth animation slightly smoother but otherwise what is there? The power widgets are gone, I had to install third party Power Toggles app. The new notification swipe down is annoying, having to swipe up when waking device is annoying. The status bar colors are inconsistent. The menus look childish looking.
Without being dramatic, did Sony take all this time to make sure it ran without crashing? Because I notice very few changes (not even improvements, just any changes) on the UI. I must be missing something.
more than that:
can only set one volume at a time.
either portrait or auto, you can't force landscape like in KK.
animations are fluid, but the functionality isn't. My opinion is, if the device has extra power that it can use to make things animate, slide and fade all over the place, better to put that extra power into making the device perform faster. Anyone here who prefers prettier animations instead of faster functionality?
low resolution screenshots in the recents screen. wat. Seriously... wat? Also, the way they've made it it is faster to just go to the apps screen and open whatever app i want, instead of waiting for the recents screen to load and then scroll awkwardly through the programs... Also, you can only see three recent apps. On a device with 6" of screen. three. think about it.
Also... what is the point of having screenshots, anyway? icons are faster, easier to distinguish, take fewer resources and smaller area on screen.
I agree fully on the recent apps screenshots. The blurry images are embarrassing and don't at all go with the clean/sharp theme of everything else. I don't understand why they've made it low res, can't be for performance given no restraint or need anywhere else. Bizarre!
There is over-prettying. For example, the stupid screen swipe up to unlock (after hitting the power button already), the sparkles are just so unnecessary, it is one of the few places the phone actually seems to struggle pulling off the effect.
At the moment my biggest problem is with Yahoo Mail. The account does not seem to auto-sync despite all the settings being correct and even when I force the sync manually the notifications don't show. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, most likely Yahoo to blame, their webmail is always breaking but never ever had a single issue before with KK. This is problematic because it is effectively no longer push email, I have to manually check 50 times a day.
My biggest annoyance is the inability to reclaim the Google search bar area in the Home Screen. I don't want that search button, why can't I use that space, and why a stupid dot to represent the pages of the Homescreen when I only have 1.
Is there actually anything different/new on the backend? My issues aren't severe enough to go back to KK (yet) but seeing what I see, I would have no problem whatsoever buying an Xperia Sony will not upgrade beyond KK.

I agree with you about small changes. I even face some strange problems in my WiFi. the mac address haven't change, but I can't connect to my work WiFi protected network. Sometimes it connects in limited status. One of my friends which updated his Ultra has this problem too.I could connect it to my laptop adhoc wifi netwrok, but for one time. it even can't connect to that network anymore. I rolled back to my stock 14.4.A.0.133 backup. and a'm waiting to fixes from sony.
Agree with you guys. And that stock greenish blueish greyish statusbar color pisses me off! Anybody knows how to change that color?
Quite pathetic attempt by a mod to bury this thread by moving it to this section. If negative feedback on L bothers you so much, delete the thread and censor it outright. Sad day for xda.

Notification LED or always on display?

I'm coming from a v20 with the second screen that showed me the icons of mail/snapchat etc so I didn't have to unlock the phone. Does the v60 have a notification LED or always on part that does the same thing?
The v60 does not have a notification light but it does have an always on display which shows the icons of the notifications like the v20 did. There's also a setting called brief notifications that shows you what the notification says from the always on screen display.

The AOD is on the primary phone and configurable via Settings. It works more or less the same with or without the dual-screen attachment.
If you're using the dual-screen accessory, the second screen comes built into a case that folds open to display both screens side-by-side.
If you have the case closed, you can't see either screen.
But the outside of this case has something very similar to that old LG "second screen" that showed notifications.
It's black/white only, is like "two rows" high, and is fairly low resolution, but it gets the job done when the thing is folded closed.
IIRC, it shows the time/date and icons for any notifications that have come in, at which point you'd open up the case to actually access your notifications and deal with them.
Just wanted to add that I found a setting for the phone's AOD that causes a blow glow to pulse all the way around the extreme edges of the display for a few seconds after a notification comes in.
You can turn on which apps' notifications will cause this pulse, and there's an All Apps global on/off switch as well.
It's not quite an LED notification, but it's a nice little addition.
Edit - It's under Lock Screen Notifications -> Brief Notifications -> Sidelight

THAT'S where it was... I turned it on a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't remember where I found this setting. It was only lighting up for text messages for me (didn't turn it on for all apps, or any other individual apps), so I was looking for it on my wife's phone in case she wanted me to turn it on for her, but couldn't find it in the messaging settings. AT&T and "Classy Blue," though I'd say there's nothing classy about AT&T.
Mine was the yellowish color when I just had it enabled for Messaging. After enabling it for GMail, Facebook, and Facebook Messenger, I've noticed it blue for those. It's still the yellowish color for Messaging, though.

Based on install counts, overall reviews, and last updated dates, I've narrowed it down to two apps:
Always On Edge - Edge Lighting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
True Edge | Edge Lighting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newgen.edgelighting
I guess I'll give both a whirl and report back with my impressions.
I like LG's version well enough, but more customization options is always OK in my book.

Quoting myself.
I tried both, and even paid the one-time IAPs to unlock all options for both apps.
Frankly, I don't like either. Unlike LG's built-in Sidelight, I couldn't get either of these two edge lighting apps to play nice with either the stock AOD (which I prefer to their clunky versions), my lockscreen live wallpaper, or both. On top of that, even after taking pictures of LG's blue Sidelight colors and using a color picker to determine their hex values and inputting them into those two replacement apps, I couldn't quite duplicate the neat glow LG's got going on. No amount of futzing about netted me results nearly as pretty as LG's Sidelight. And I tried every possible feature, slider, and toggle in both apps.
That, in combination with having to settle for jankier AODs that don't work with my preferred live wallpapers completely turned me off from both apps, and I wound up uninstalling them and sticking with LG's non-customizeable Sidelight feature. Oh well. Cost me a few buck and around 1.5 hours of tinkering, and it just wound up being a waste of time and money.
If I had to recommend one, I'd say that Always on Edge - Edge Lighting is the preferred app. It appears to have more customizations and options available than True Edge | Edge Lighting. That does mean that you'd need to tinker with the app more to get the results you want, but it does afford you a larger variety of customizations. FWIW, both let you mess around with notch presets and then further tweak height, width, and radius curves in order to get the edge lighting to properly wrap around the LG V60's cut-out. You can also simply ignore the notch options and have the wrap-around edge lighting "cut off" where the notch starts and resume where it ends, if you don't feel like messing with it that much. It can be a bit finicky. Again, I found that Always On Edge handles variable notch sizes better than True Edge.
Thanks for the detailed testing.

Question Wallpaper changes to solid color and can't be changed

I have a strange situation that keeps happening. Every so often the wallpaper on my Pixel 6 will change to a solid color (that resembles the theme of the wallpaper I had active - for example sometimes it is gray, other times brown). From that point I can't seem to get rid of the solid color unless I reboot the phone. After a reboot the correct (previously active) wallpaper is shown. When the solid color is there it is almost like it is on top of the wallpaper because in the wallpaper settings the pixel thinks that the wallpaper is set properly and if I change the wallpaper there the solid color just persists and I never get an updated wallpaper.
Does anyone know how to fix this? It seems to happen most after I have used Android Auto, but happens at other seemingly random times too. I appreciate any help as I have tried many things with no success.
Not sure about you but I have a IFTTT applet that changes my desktop to black if my battery gets low. Well I know that now. I forgot about it though after setting it up. Drove me ****ing bonkers. I spent the better part of my free time in the evenings for a several days coming back to the mystery after work. I was digging into some deep reading in developer forums and official studio documentation after a full stock fresh start and it was still occuring.
Are you using any theming, root, power saving, optimization type apps? Or remote access, docking? Could be a setting or feature of what you're connected to. Can you reproduce it at will? or is it genuinely random. Did you change any settings related to freeform windows, overlays, hardware acceleration, Or systemUI mods, tweaks, or any hidden settings. If you have root, do you have any modules you haven't really tested for compatibility? Does it happen at certain times? only with certain events or places? Do you have assistant set up? automation, tasking? Set up any routines to run in the background that might be failing to do something with the wallpaper and just defaults to best possible match. Have you changed anything to do with locations of your media, where apps are installed, or what folders they have access to? Are you casting to wireless screens? enabled any "second screen" features or settings? Have you modified the DPI beyond stock ranges. Maybe your accidently putting the screen on something with similar conductivity with skin and have smart lock enabled and your getting random input while not using it.
Could be a lot of things.
Identify specifics, change something, track results; rinse repeat.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried some and will look into others. Based on lack of activity this does not seem like a widespread issue, so it is likely just some software causing this issue. I will continue to investigate and hopefully find the culprit. Thank you again!
