Factory Reset - restoring any configuration/settings? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Questions

Hi there,
I've been upgrading to a S21 9910 from a S9. Tried with SmartSwitch - but battery life was pretty poor (3-4h SOT).
Now I've done the factory reset and I'm still in the process of restoring - which is kind of a pain the ***** somehow. I've also disabled a few things with ADB, just basic (Bixby, etc).
Is there any "allowed" way to restore maybe things like settings / configuration / with Samsung Cloud / Google Backup AND not to impact the battery life or so?
Any help/hints would be useful.
THANK YOU!

SmartSwitch creates more problems in my opinion (but I had a Huawei so that could have also been a problem) and google backup is still an obscure thing for me (compare to ios backup).
Usually the battery improves after few days but don't expect 10hrs screen time.
This is what I did with mine to improve battery life:
- disabled AOD
- changed to dark theme
- set a routine with bixby to disable mobile data when on a specific wi-fi (like home one) and switch to 3G (if you disconnect from it the phone goes back to 4G/5G+ mobile data)
- put screen to 60 fps (i don't use social network and I mainly read on watch videos on phone so I don't need 120 fps)
- with "package disabler pro" I disabled few services/apps (OneDrive, all game related plugins, samsung kids, led cover service, google Duo, facebook services)
- switched from youtube app to youtube vanced
- blokada
- I use brave as a browser (not tested if it is better on battery side compared to samsung's one)
With these setting and without disabling bixby I can get at least 4hrs if I game a lot (tested with Genshin that takes aroung 20-25 % / hrs; obviously not 4hrs of Genshin or the phone would melt down on 60 fps setting). On general usage whatsapp, youtube, music, phonecalls, 30 min gaming, bluetooth always on and connected to samsung watch (Gear fit 2) and location on (but limited to some apps) you should get more than 6 hrs.
If you are setting up phone I also suggest you Good Lock from samsung store (a lot of customization for the phone).

Thanks for sharing your approach!
I've also AOD disabled, and a few others.
120Hz I would like to have still.
Let's see - if I get anything more than 5h I would be happy already. Will share my experience after few days and finished set-up.
What exactly is this "Good Lock" - you mean the screen lock app?

Good Lock is an app that you can download from the Galaxy Store. It lets you customize lockscreen, AOD, Quick Panel, launcher, task changer, notifications, navigation bar and much more.

[Tips&Tricks] Tracking down and improving upon battery usage (ICS Razr)

Hello all,
I got frustrated with the unrealistic 10% step battery reporting and unknown battery eaters so below are the steps I've taken. Scroll down to skip the initial stats.
First you should study http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27927999 and use the tips given there. I will focus on more internal stuff that is in part specific to RAZR. This guide is for you if you see high battery usage of "Android OS".
Suggested apps:
- Circle Battery - free - it will report the real battery percentage as well as battery temperature. The higher the temperature the slower the phone will charge
- BetterBatteryStats - paid on the Market or free here on XDA
Measuring:
I would suggest to do measure any improvements during idle usage. It's a lot easier to track down the hungry settings.
Also, you should fully charge your phone between measurements so the battery stats get reset. There are also other ways to do it.
Establish the baseline usage of your phone with the current setup. You can assume a linear battery run down so you can extrapolate from the REAL 20% of battery usage that your phone will last 5 times more.
Go to Settings=>Battery and write down which apps used most of the battery.
If screen and cell standby are the biggest ones then you are mostly ok: cell switching for 2G->3G->4G switching is eating a lot of battery.
You can either: use WiFi for data (if available and has a good signal) or disable data altogether while in the problematic area. You can also disable high-speed connections and remain on 2G.
If Android OS is eating the most then write down the stats and read on.
Remove ALL the widgets on the home screen. Measure battery usage again as above. If still not satisfied, keep widgets removed and read on.
Go into Settings=>Accounts and disable unneeded syncing of accounts. You can manually sync your Drive app for example or the Books. For example, I have left only Browser, Calendar, Contacts, Chrome for my google account.
Set your email checking frequency to 1 hour for all email accounts, don't use push.
Measure and move on if not satisfied.
Open BetterBatteryStats and set the second drop-down as 'Since Unplugged'.
Select "Partial Wakelocks" from the first combo and study the output. It will tell you which apps are waking up the phone.
Select "Alarms" from first combo and study which apps are periodically waking up the phone to process data. Mostly email, calendar, facebook, but you might have a few surprises. Clicking on an alarm will show how many times the application has woken up the phone and how long it kept it up. There is a lot more information here on the forums about BBS usage so do a search.
Some other thing: high data usage would most like mean high CPU and battery usage. A friend with SGS noted that the News&Weather app ate 300MB of data in two days. While transferring, the phone is most likely not idle. You can check data usage in Settings=>Data Usage. From the options menu you can also enable the WiFi statistics and check those as well.
Hopefully by now you have identified what's keeping eating your battery so let's see the:
Actions
Is the app needed? If not, just disable it through Manage Apps=>App Info=>Disable
Does the app really need the data connection? If not, go to the data settings, set a limit to the data plan and you are able to disable background data for some apps.
Find battery-friendly alternatives for applications and widgets.
Use Tasker to set profiles. For example I'm automatically opening up the WiFi while near one of my home GSM Cells. This uses minimal battery as opposed to a GPS positioning. I'm disabling all data connections during night time, also good for sanity.
There's a lot more info about Tasker and building profiles on the Internet.
You can also use the built-in Smart Actions app, but it's not so flexible.
Increase the WiFi search delay from 45s to 90s or more.
[TODO: more measures]
Recommendations
On my phone MotoEmail was eating a lot of battery, even more while set as a widget on the home screen. I've replaced it with 'Inverted Mail', it's the stock ICS Google Email app with inverted colors. To replace it you have to use Root Explorer (or similar), set the /system as r/w and rename /system/app MotoEmail.apk to *.bak, copy the inverted app as MotoEmail.apk and install it. You will lose some options such as gestures, widget style and probably more.
Put a leash on location-aware apps like Latitude and Social Location, they will send a lot of work to Google Maps.
Use darker themes and low brightness for improved screen-on life.
Check live wallpaper CPU usage by enabling the checkbox inside the developer settings.
Give up your microSD card if you can live with 16GB.
Disable touch sounds and haptic feedback.
Disable automatic market update checking and notifications. Still at notifications, disable the notifications you don't really need.
Watch out for maps that automatically update graphically. Google maps live background or widget is nice but it kills the battery and performance.
Other stuff
There are also a lot of other options but I have not been able to confirm them on myr Razr since I have only had it since last week. These include underclocking, raising minimum CPU speed (worked on my other phones), using different colors for background and theme, disabling some logs, modifying buffer sync time, boot scripts etc.
Feel free to add to this thread by listing your changes that improved battery life.

Thanks, I actually followed that thread but it mostly deals with improving the result not solving the root of the problem.
I would say it's mostly a complement to your thread, except the recommendations which are pretty similar.
I could have added to your thread but the information gets lost quickly if you are not within the first few posts.
Above is only one of the ways in which you can systematically track down battery usage, mostly tailored for an ICS Razr.
Thanks again for your reference, it's very helpful and all owners should read it.
Explanations for varios high-usage services:
com*motoemail*
This is the default email client included by Motorola. I had to replace it with the standard ICS mail client and chose the inverted version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634469
I have seen a high improvement since I made the switch and functionality is almost the same.
The Motorola email client is hungry for wakelocks so something is badly coded there. The situation gets even worse if you add the widget to your homescreen.
I'm on the leak so situation might be improved by the OTA.
spi_tty_wakelock
This is actually the data connection (2G/3G/4G) transferring data.
Could be caused by always-online applications (Facebook, Messenger, GTalk) and by network location service.
This name is specific to Motorola.
PowerManagerService
Grouping of partial wakelocks: https://github.com/asksven/BetterBatteryStats-Knowledge-Base/wiki/PowerManagerService
AudioOut
Caused by: phone ringing, audio notifications, haptic/sound feedback for selections and keyboard, listening to radio/music.
usb
Caused by the USB connection, of course.
Tip: by doing a complete dump of the file you can study the running services as well, it's the last section of the file. I'm still trying to make figure out what the all the com.motorola services are doing and what input (data, location, ...) they need.

Essential apps and setup on GBX0* + 3.4.26.13 kernel - update 02/01/13

I've been using GBX0* + 3.4.26.13 kernel for sometime on my uk rhod100. I know that it's not recommended for rhod100 but I have found it to work very well (a big thanks to the developers - hopefully the bug with bluetooth causing occasional reboots will be solved soon). After some reading around and experimentation I have found a setup that I am very happy with. Below I share my current setup in the hope that some find it useful. I stress that none of this is original and can be found scattered around the forums.
Initial Installation
Firstly, when installing the ROM I remove all the apks from the system/app directory that I have no use for. The apps I have removed without any detrimental effects are:
Bluetooth (I belive this is only required for file transfers via bluetooth which has never worked with any xdandroid build on my device)
GenieWidget (News and weather widget I never use but does cause device wakeups and launches when a data connection is found even if not used)
HTMLviewer
LatinimeTutorial
Mediauploader
PinyinIME (chinese android keyboard input)
Protips
Talk (Gtalk - never used this)
Vpnservices
I also uninstall launcher2 once I have installed an alternative after flashing (Lightning launcher with the least demanding settings and no wallpaper, as few widgets as possible and one screen is recommened)
Performance
The [[Speed Improvements]] Brainstorming & Testing Thread!! is full of useful tips and advice however was started sometime ago. I did use the V6 supercharger script for some time with good results however I now use and application called Android Tuner from the play store. With this app I can do many of the tips and tweak from the convenience of an app. I use it to do the following
1. Contolling the CPU frequency for overclocking. Stable upto 710MHz on my device
2. Controlling OOM settings (I use 8,16,32,64,96,128)
3. Controlling startup apps
4. Turning off the receivers for GoogleServicesframework
5. Performing tasks like FixPermissions / Clearing System caches / Wipe Davlik etc.
The app does a whole load more (changing SD cache / changing SysCtl settings/allowing uninstalling of system apps) - if people have other setup tips please share
I have also recently started using an app called Seeder (available for free to xda members) which seems to improve general performance. I am in the early stages of trying this but it does seem to help a bit. The reviews generally seem positive but the manner in which it works is debated. Any other experiences of this app would be appreciated. One drawback is claimed to be a decreased batter life - I have not seen this.
Battery Life
All the usual stuff re screen brightness and timeout apply here as well as data connections etc.
I have been using an app called One Power Guard which does seem to improve battery life mainly during standby without any discernible decrease in performance. This app causes various system and kernel tweaks,
Disabling data connections etc is well known to help improve battery life but I have also found a big difference by turing off Use Wireless networks in the Location and Security Settings.
A second battery with this ROM is recommended and I am very happy with the Mugen 1800mah battery.
Essential Apps
Notification Toggle by j4velin I would say is a must. It allows shortcuts (for apps and settings) and toggles (like CM7.2) for system settings to be placed in the notification area. With the rhod100 not reconnecting the wifi networks after a screen off having a rapid toggle function is essential. Highly recommended and light weight,
Leo AGPS injector app by tytung is essential for speeding up GPS locks. From reading around when using this app first extablish a data connection, then turn on GPS and then run the widget. Definitely speeds up GPS lock times. (Use GPS test to check)
Clock Sync by sergey baranov is another essential for preventing clock drift. Also I have read that an accurate clock time can improve GPS lock times so another reason for this app. As in the xdandroid FAQ I have it set to sync every hour. It may also be beneficial to change the NTP server to a local one.
That concludes my round up of my current setup. Please contribute any other tips that I have missed out. The above have only been tried with this ROM and work well on my Rhod100, I hope this is of help to someone.
Thanks akk29, very useful. I have now tried some of the things you have, some I will get around too as I play more and find more out (eg, controlling startup apps, uninstall inglauncher, GoogleServicesframewor). I'm constantly turning my backlight up/down - is there a fix for doing this automatically?
The jury is out as whether I'll switch back to WinMo... I love all the new apps I've got that WinMo just doesn't have.
The biggest problem, (at least I think it's what's causing problems), is speed (I'm running ok at 787 MHz at the moment!). The phone doesn't want to know about the Facebook App - it says it's loading it, but then bombs out after thinking for quite a while. Also it's very fussy about touching the screen. Trying to type using the screen keyboard is almost impossible. I love the hardware keyboard (which is why I've got the TP2), but sometimes I just need a quick soft-key entry. And whether I pressed a button or not, only time would tell.
But I'll use it and play with it for a little while longer, and most probably become too reliant on all the android apps to revert back!
[I had a WinMo tweak for boosting the volume which made my phone very loud, but now it seems quite quiet, especially playing songs]

That's a old kernel/rom. Try the newer release like the 3.4.41 kernel.
Autobrightness was fixed in 3.4.26.
WizardKnight, I am using 3.4.35 Kernel - I've got a RHOD100, so the 41 didn't work very well (which is a shame, as fps has increased in that build). Thanks for the note about the autobrightness (looking at the changelog I have it working now I turn off/on the LCD).
Anyone had better luck with the Facebook app / integration?

[ROOT]Temporally solution for WiFi and overall battery drain on MM fw.

Hi, i will share you what worked in my e2306 to fix the annoying Wifi drain. You need an app that let you disable broadcast receivers like RoomToolBox or MyAndroidTools. We are going to disable some Google Play Services receivers.
Open the app you choose to work, navigate to receivers and then DISABLE the following in GPLAY services app:
SystemUpdateServiceActiveReceiver
SystemUpdateServiceOtaPolicyReceiver
SystemUpdateServiceReceiver
SystemUpdateServiceSecretCodeReceiver
And then reboot.
No need to activate STAMINA mode. No need to choose GPS to power saving, no need to disable WiFi/BT location scan.
Ive tested for like 10 days or so. The overnight drain downed to 2% it was like 7%. Also now battery is as good as in LP fw, 1 and 1/2 day with moderate to heavy usage.
Attached screenshoot of two diferent charge cycles.

As for now, i didnt noticed anything broken, but it might deppend what you do with your device.
I ussualy do the following with my phone:
*Using Google stuff like maps with gps accurate mode, Location history etc.
*Using google chrome and other browsers.
*Using google fit with realtime activity detection.
*Gmail / Email / Sms / Whastapp.
*Some gaming 2D / 3D / Console Emulators.
*The whole time at home WiFi connected, LTE/3g outside. (I never turn off wifi even when im out)
*Xposed with a variety of modules (app settings, apm+, and more..)
*Apps via playstore, music app, camera, weather and clock widgets, Root thingy like KernelAdiutor, Lucky Patcher, fstrimm. A large etc.
I can confirm that all these things seems to work ok, havent had any problem

A few of those were already disabled (perhaps by amplify).
For some reason i had multiple AccountsChangedReceiver from Google Services (all with that same name), with one bieng already disabled, so i left those as they were.
For now everything seems to still work. I'll report if I notice anything. Thanks for the tip!
Hmm so it wasnt only me, i have TWO AccountsChangedReceiver(android.accounts.LOGIN_ACCOUNTS_CHANGED) and one was already disabled before i touch anything, and few others i dont remember. Im going to check by restoring a backup and report here
Makes no difference here.
I did notice a big boost in battery duration. I'd say about 4 hours more. Though of course one should do a serious test to assert this.
I also noticed now playstore won't download updates if the screen is off. I get a message saying background data has been disabled when i turn the screen back on if playstore was downloading something.
Does this happen to you too? Worth it in any case.

Do you use STAMINA?
In my case background data is ok and all the things that deppends of it are working fine, as for playstore i always disable autoupdates and i do them manually to prevent unwanted "new features" you know.. so i cant confims this last one. I never use stamina mode though.
Btw by restoring my backup i got the same result untouching anything but the last 4 receivers ive stated in the post so i dont thing the first 3 that also apperas to be duplicated are relevant, gonna edit it.

I normally don't, although it could've been automatically activated. I just tried downloading an app and turning off the screen for a while (while it was staarting to download). When i turned it back on it actually had installed so perhaps that was random.
Is there any way to do this on a LBL/nonrooted phone? As my BL can't be unlocked, and wifi battery drain is very proeminent, like 1% per 2-3 minutes.
There is no battery drain if you did proper clean install... Just wait for few days it will dissapear from battery list. I am getting 6 hours sot and 2 days battery life
Obivously clean install, stock rom, CE1, using flashtool, wipe user data.

Pixel 3 - improve battery life

Opening this thread because battery life could be better even though it's only ~2950mAh. Currently I'm getting a bettery life of 20h with moderate usage. So I started to gather infos about how to reduce battery drain and usage.
Improvements:
- AlwaysOnDisplay: off
- Playing now: off
- reduce brightness
Are there any Google APPs which can be safely deactivated without getting the phone lunatic nor have heavy impact on the system?
And why is the Google APP so large? On my Moto G5+ it was around 35MB and now it's ten times bigger?

I wondered the same as you before receiving my Pixel 3. Comjing from a Galaxy S8 battery / SoT was always an issue, I barely made it trough a whole day of work without recharging at 5 PM.
With the Pixel 3 I did the following:
- Set it up and migrate everything from the S8 (via the Assistant in the Setup screen)
- Restored my ringtones and Notification sounds
- disabled the following Apps (because I don't use them): Action Services, Android Auto, Chrome, Connectivity Health Services, Device Health Services, Device Policy, Gmail (I use Aquamail instead), Google Connectivity Services, Google Play Movies, Google Play Music, Google Suport Services, Live Transcribe, Pixel Ambient Services, Youtube (I prefer Youtube Vanced and MigroG instead)
- Set up a ton of Cal and Carddav Accounts for my personal cloud services
- Disabled the automativ battery saver (which would kick in at 15% by default)
- Set up Automate: toogle WiFi on automatically when I reach a specific location (I know this is build in, but with the build in version it doesn't switch of when I leave the location) and disable it when I leave, Disable Bluetooth when not in use for 5 Minutes, automatically activate DnD when I'm charging after a specific Time (I charge every night) and disable it when I remove it from the Qi Charger
That's what I set up because of my experience with the S8 and because I want most things automatically done.
Yesterday I pushed the phone to the limit (a whole workday plus 2 Hours Spotify and 3 Hours Gaming):

Why don't just turn on Battery Saver? It shuts down some functions, like instant response for "Hey Google", idles background running apps etc. It also switches on dark theme at least in settings. I didn't measure exact battery life, but it feels, it lives longer. However, there were some days (I think, once in a couple months) when the battery drained almost in half in literally some hours. Since I registered it aftermath, I can not recall what could lead to that, but since I live in Los Angeles with some areas of pretty bad coverage (in hills areas, on some freeways), it's possible those caused the drainage. Also it could be the result of some glitches that Pixel is famous for, so I just rebooted it and it stopped drain the battery for that reason or because I was already out of bad coverage areas.
Since it's still April, don't forget about secret Google's signals to control all its gadgets and their owners.

That's what I set up because of my experience with the S8 and because I want most things automatically done.
Yesterday I pushed the phone to the limit (a whole workday plus 2 Hours Spotify and 3 Hours Gaming):

Your setup of apps and syncing is very close to mine! Some of the services you mentioned are still running on my Pixel. That's a good starting point for further optimisation. Very appreciate your help!

Why don't just turn on Battery Saver? It shuts down some functions, like instant response for "Hey Google", idles background running apps etc. It also switches on dark theme at least in settings. I didn't measure exact battery life, but it feels, it lives longer. However, there were some days (I think, once in a couple months) when......
Since it's still April, don't forget about secret Google's signals to control all its gadgets and their owners.

I applied already the standards for saving battery life (AoD, etc.) and as I don't use the Google services also those I was sure it doesn't break anything. Getting rid of the services I don't use is a good start for optimise it.

Well, it's not about the process of unlocking and rooting the phone, but just the legal side.
I would not get any service for free if I unlocked it.
I rooted every phone I had but as my Pixel is new I will wait till I'm sure that there are no hardware problems occurring.

Do you mean you applied that after special mode "Battery Saver" as additions to it? That standard mode was enough for me to keep my battery charge mostly over 50% after full day.

Yep, that's what I ment. I identified already one of the drainers - my Openvpn client is consuming quite a lot. After switching to Blockada (as AdBlocker) battery consumption is quite okay.
But let's see what can be achieved by further optimization.
Try to use the private DNS setting instead, I figured this would save even more battery than a locally hosted VPN

I will try, but one after the other. Otherwise I don't know what was a good setting.
Seems like I found descent settings to make battery last longer. So let's see how this turns out during the week (this is my normal use case - mail, some music, business stuff, photos; I don't play!).
I'll let u know what I did, so maybe others can profit as well.
While in standby/mails/some browsing the drain is descent. While listening to some music using BT the drain is quite visible as you can see.
What?? When you use the device it uses more battery then when it sleeps? crazy

LOL - sorry, maybe misleading. Yes, I used it for reading mail, some websites. So maybe I should have written moderate use.

Which CPU mode do you use? I typically use "on demand"

Alarms in Better Battery Stats - Help!

Hello,
I have a Mi note 10 Lite (unrooted) that I have tried to set in order to avoid any battery drainage. The phone is pretty new, so I don't have many Apps installed (WhatsApp, Spotify and few others. No FB, instagram etc yet).
- Naptime with aggressive doze is installed;
- No auto-sync whatsover
- No automatic backyp
- Block ads via nextdns.it
- Position history, wifi scan etc is all disabled
- all apps ore optimized in the battery settings
- Already tried to wipe Google play serivces' cache, than to unistall updates and wipe again. I have also disabled the ability to change system settings (even if it keeps coming back on after a while);
- Set LTE/WCDMA in the hidden 4636 menu (I do it every time I reboot my phone);
- Removed MSA authorisation,
- Disabled MIUI optimisation
- did a lot of similar things and in-app optimisation (no tracking/history in Google maps, no Play safe, no personalised adv in MIUI apps) etc etc
Everything I could do without rooting my phone is done. I am not using it intensively (still as a 2nd phone till I can get this drainage sorted), so I use it only for some WhatsApp and online articles (with mint browser).
With Naptime I was able to reduce the screen off drainage (now it's -2% overnight), but Google Play services is always at the top of my battery chart. I installed BBS and I don't have worrysome Partial wakelocks, but I do have a lot of alarms from Google and Android:
BBS
Google-BBS
Android-BBS
Can you please take a look at these screenshot and tell me what should I do?
