Hi everyone. It's been two days since the process com.google.process.gapps has started crashing, "stopping unexpectedly" whenever i use the browser on my tab.
Reading the error report, it seems (not 100% sure about that) this is somehow related to the bookmarks sync with Chrome, but i can't find a way to disable this.
Has anyone exprerienced the same issue? Any known solution? Thanks
Go to settings > accounts and sync, click on your account then uncheck everything, then manually sync everything one by one to see what is causing the error.
Then go to manage apps and clear the cache of all the problem apps and re-sync them once you're done. It might take a few tries but it should take care of that error.

I believe that bookmarks sync no long works with galaxy tab. Google changed something on their end that should have worked fine(it still works on the xoom, transformer, etc.) but since samsung changed a bunch of stuff for no apparent reason, it is now broken. samsung is so stupid sometimes..
So you're basically suggesting that bookmarks sync should stay off to avoid problems like that?
well I don't really know. I never used bookmark sync in the first place. I'm just going by what is said in this article.

It turns out that at some point Google started making some changes to the backend systems that handle Google’s user account data. There’s nothing wrong with them doing this; it happens all the time. In fact, no other Android 3.1 tablets had any issues at all with the changes, and their bookmark sync continued to work without a blip on the radar.
Not Samsung, however... I did some digging around the internet, and it’s become somewhat well-known amongst Android developers that Samsung actually modifies core source code in the Android operating system that handles communicating with Google’s backend data services.

Well, that's a pity. I had just started to think it was a useful tool to keep track of unread web pages between work, home and outside...
Let's hope Samsung somehow fixes that.
PS: disabling bookmarks sync actually stops the process from crashing, I think I've solved (if we could really say so...) the issue. Thanks to all!
Thanks, disabling auto sync for browser has stopped the error. Samsung developers need to fix this - I can't auto sync my gmail

Ok be prepared, this post may be rather long winded however I will try my best to prevent that. I have a Tmobile G2x I purchased on launch date. Ive not attempted to Root, change roms, or anything of the sort. (as much as I always wanted to, I always felt that my skills were not good enough to attempt these ideas no matter how easy they may seem. I just did not want to be the cause of screwing up my phone that I paid dearly for)
So I have a friend who claims to be the master (of disaster so it turns out) of rooting androids and such. He stops by my house just to hang out and eventualy convinces me to let him root my phone and install CM7. Within a few minutes the phone was rooted (super1click) and was running CM7 release candidate. (I really dont know what all these things truly are but I drilled him for answers once he jacked up my phone and left me with a half-bricked phone) So he installed Rom manager and convinced me to upgrade to the premium version via marketplace so I did. He was then showing me how easy it was to flash new roms at the touch of a few buttons. He put on some other rom which looked like CM7 but claimed to have extra tweaks. It worked fine. A few minutes later he put on some Faux Rom which gave a boot up screen like my old Nexus One did. (Multicolored X) It seemed to work fine as well. Then he said lets check out the nightly CM7 Rom so he put it on. (however I dont think it ever actually put CM7 back on.-still on Faux?) Thats when things got crazy.
Now I get the com.google.process.gapps force close message all the time. He tried to fix it for 4 hours and finally gave up. Here is what I know he/we tried: After searching the internet for hours we tried everyone elses ideas. Clearing calenders cashes, un syncing, etc. We did about 40 factory resets. We have tried to install my backup (which was from BEFORE he even touched my phone) and upon holding both volume rockers and plugging in USB (no battery installed) and it still does nothing. Windows recognizes device but phone screen stays black. Tried Debug mode while doing this as well. If we hold the volume down button and power the little install bar comes on the screen and it does its thing (whatever that is) and goes right back to the way it was. I keep getting the gapps message all the time. After factory reset I cant even type in my gmail address to start the initial setup of the phone. The force close keeps cutting me off. If I type fast, I can sync the account but I cant use market whatsoever. Tried installing Rom manager to re-flash but just sticks at starting download and gapps pops up again.
My son is starting school tomorrow and he has a medical condition. I NEED this phone to communicate with the school nurse via emails and such. As of now I can only text, call, or surf web all while dodging force closes. If ANYONE out there can please help me get my phone back to normal Id greatly appreciate it. Im sure its something easy but as I said before, Im not good at this thing and thats why I never attempted it myself. Based on your post, I would suggest that you search your phone's development forum on XDA for a compatable clockwork recovery mod which will install a custom recovery on your phone. The thread will give you instructions on how to do so and how to enter recovery mode.
You can then enter the 'Backup and Restore' part of the recovery and restore your backup manually without using ROM manager. If this doesn't work, I would suggest that you then download the ROM of your choice and install it from the clockwork recovery. Make sure you clear user data and wipe the cache before you install.
Any fix yet? This is really annoying me as I rely on my bookmarks tremendously.

Open stock browser and under settings choose clear cache and deletehistory

Let me start by saying this forum has been immensely helpful to this lurker.
I'm on info-overload after finding out about the update coming to the NT. NEVER did I plan to root, as I'm the person for whom sideloading was a dicey project. Once I was able to sideload I absolutely LOVED my NT...until now.
What are the odds of bricking if I try to root? What, exactly, happens if you brick? Right now I have my wi-fi off and haven't been updated yet, but I can't keep wi-fi off forever.
What's your best advice for someone who probably shouldn't be playing with root, but is starting to feel cornered?
Extremely low. Watch the videos a few times, print the guide out (if it will help), and have the page loaded. It's not a big deal to do it and once you have you'll laugh at the trepidation that your former self felt.
watch my videos and I will walk you through it. it cant get any simpler. Just make sure everything has power, batteries fully charged and dont disconnect in the middle.

Another Noob question. I have watched the video and feel fairly confident about attempting root. I have however, already sideloaded Go Launcher EX, and a number of other apps. So I already have access to the App menu, Development menu, and Accessibility menu and I can check the USB debugging boxes and un-check the auto mount box. Does this change anything about the order that I do things in the root process?

You still need to do part one for the usb driver walk through. If you have the drivers installed already, just go to part 2
Just to clarify....
Once rooted, the OTA update is blocked by an app that comes with the root? OR, is there a separate procedure after rooting? (Read so much, it's all meshing together.)
Also, how long do I have once I turn the wi-fi back on before the OTA starts? Meaning, how fast does this bumbling NooB have to work the process before BN tries to take it over?
I'm gathering that rooting blocks the ota, but I went ahead and did the sqlite method anyway in addition. It's posted somewhere else in here, just install and open Root Explorer, follow the path that's in the post, and follow the instructions. Like rooting, it only looks intimidating, but most of this is quite easy as long as you follow instructions.
Fotakill doesn't work to block as someone confirmed so I released a proper method to do it and all you need to do is use titanium backup to restore the files.

Will I have enough time to root and do the OTA block before BN comes crashing in with the update? I *think* I read there's about 20 mins once you turn on wi-fi, but I know how slow I am.
Only use wiring to download the tgps launcher to be able to install it then disconnect, root, install ota block, reconnect and enjoy.

Trying not to panic here:
Got as far as plugging the nook back into the computer to start installing the drivers, but the Nook with broken icon is not showing up. The instructions say to move to another computer....but I don't have one.
What now? What happens if I unplug now?

Never got a message saying the root was successful.
So we had an older HP all-in-one PC lying around and my toddler is old enough to play with tablets and such so I thought I would look at RemixOS. Had a little trouble getting it going at first but all is good now, dual booting the machine with Remix.
Problem we seem to be having is our toddler manages to close apps if she doesn't use just 1 finger on the screen or swipes up or down from top/bottom. Is there any way to prevent this? We think this could be a great tool for her but she keeps closing the apps. Anything we could do to "lock" it down or make it more baby friendly?

I have spent days messing around with every one of them. And basically, they have all been crappy in some way or another. And all I do is install a single piano app and try to use USB Midi controller with it. I either cannot get Wifi working, or cannot get the OS installed properly. Remix OS is the epitome of a true Android operating system. At least thats where it was headed. Its easy to access Windows files. Easy to install APK files. And my USB controller was detected without problems. BUT, the wifi app could not detect anything at all. And a crazy box kept popping up during my piano app that gave the choice to wait or close the app due to not responding. Even though it was working fine. Buggy I know. But still better than the rest. I wish someone would take a crack at continuing that project.

I have a problem and can't seem to find a solution.
Yesterday my phone had some problems with the camera and suggested to restart the phone. Did so, but now it is asking me for a password to startup the phone. I forgott my password and came to my last try. If I get it wrong this time, my phone will reset itself, deleting all the data. Is there a way to bypass this first password?
I am finding stuff about how to unlock a lockscreen (for example: https://android.imyfone.com/remove-screen-lock/unlock-motorola/), but I haven't even reached to that step yet, at least I think. Maybe I am seeing/understanding things wrong.
My phone is still the way it came out of the factory, so no rooting or USB debugging. It's a Motorola One, no idea which android version it is running on. I bought the phone in 2019, so I am guessing it's running on Pie or higher, if possible Sorry, I am a true newbie at this.

Please, there are photo's and other personal data on the phone. I don't want to lose it unless I have no choice. Maybe somebody knows a way how to get my personal data copied to the computer? Then I can perform a hard reset. Please help me..

my phone is not from factory, but from a Basar.
It looks absolutely new, no scratch.
But when i started it first 2 weeks ago, i could not even get past start menu.
It has a "Lock Pattern" and it is still registered with someone. But obiously it is used before, it came without Box or Manual.
Ive tried hours and days to get it to work.
But all i can find is people on youtube that bypass the password, but for me it doesnt work. I have no idea what Android version it is running, but the Glitches that i found where people go from "foreign keyboards" to "Feedback" into Chrome and appstore dont work.
I can not return it, do i only have expensive Trash now or Is it Possible to Install AndroidOS again and overwrite?
I tried factory reset and know now how to go into the BIOS.
I have never done any Modifications or Rooting to any phone, im okay with computers.
But from reading here it seems I have to know exactly what version my phone is on or its possible to break it completely.....

So i guess if i get the right version an a memorycard maybe i can do like a windows or linux "format/c" an have a fresh start?

This is one of the videos/methods i have tried.
Sadly when I click on share it does not open youtube app and i cant discard the update message.

That vieo is 2 days old, but If I Follow his instructions and use the glitch to go into app list and click on settings i dont have 3 clickable buttons, only 2 of which one is gray.
I have Disable and Force Stop
He has a third button "open" settings......
same with aller APPS in the list there is no "OPEN" button.
