Question Smart switch encrypted backup to SD card restricted - Samsung Galaxy A52 5G

It seems that an encrypted backup to my SD card using Smart switch is no longer possible unless I have a Samsung account. Can anyone recommend a non Samsung app that I can use instead? My phone isn't rooted and I don't want to do this as it breaks a number of apps.

[Q] How to transfer EVERYTHING to my SD card?

my 32gb sd card will be here today. I need to put all of my music (in google music), all my contacts, all my apps, and any other data that can be transferred. I want this because on my last android phone i never used my SD card and now i wish i had a backup. Thanks!
As far as the music goes just use a file manager to transfer the files. my personal favorite is root explorer.
And for the contacts and apps it would probably just be easy to sync them to your gmail. then when you get a new android it will download all the apps you had and add to your contacts list.
Would be nice if there was a simple. Way anyone...
Simpler How? doesnt get much simpler than clicking sync to google
was your last phone rooted? If so, did you use Titanium backup...if so back up all user apps with tibu and put your backups on your ext sd. IF your NOte is rooted...put in ext sd from old phone and restore ONLY user apps with tibu. back up and restore contacts using google.
If you were NOT rooted on old phone and NOT on the Note...it will be harder. BUT when you go to market with new phone it will have all your PAID apps in "my apps" and you can d/l again. What i did when i wasn't rooted was write down all my apps so you don't forget what apps you have that aren't PAID. and re d/l/ it honestly has been sooooooooooooo long since i have had an unrooted phone that is the best i can do. I am getting my Note on Monday and until i root it so that i can bing , bang , boom with tibu and restore i am not going to mess with it.
I guess what i am saying is ...someone who wasn't and isn't rooted may be able to help cause it has been forever for me with an unrooted phone.
YOu can xfer files onto your ext sd but ROOT exp requires root..so....you can try the stock file mgr.
Part 2:
How do you force applications to install to the greater 10GB of internal memory & not the measly 2Gb?

All SD card could be read on a computer. So I'm not sure whether you can password protect it. Do a google search for related infos.
And if you're looking for apps, which locks your pictures/videos/files etc. then you may try this app --> File Hide Expert. Also, you could find more similar apps in Play Store. Just install and try, and use the one that suits your choice.
~Cheers.

are you sure all sd card are read able even when they are pasword protected?????????
i think long time ago i try this and my computer was not detecting my sd card and after removing password it works again!!!!!!!!!
and i have installed apps for hiding my sd card or its content or lock etc... but actually i dont need this and i think its impossible for android to do this may be in next version they add this feature! ..........
You'd need some way of password protecting the files themselves and not just password protecting access to the sd card from within android. Otherwise someone could just put the sd card into a reader and bypass the android restrictions.
Zip and Rar archives have password protection capabilities but then you'd have to extract and repack files each time you wanted to modify them. Microsoft Office formats have password protection, not sure who supports this on Android.

I am not sure if Android can assign a password, but I do know that in every SD card CPU there is a facility where a passphrase can be programmed into it. My E61i phones can do this. They program a passphrase into MicroSD card so those cards only work on those phones and with everything else the card can't be properly recognised. This is not encryption. It's similar to a lot of USB flash drives where a PIN is required to use it or access a hidden partition. With an SD card a passphrase is needed to unlock access to the card. Forget the passphrase and you may as well throw away the SD card.
I too am looking to see if there is something on Android that can use this standard security feature.

I wondered why android didn't have this feature when I first used it, since most probably don't encrypt their cards, meaning their files are easily accessible if lost out stolen.
Old symbian Nokia phones had the set password function from the system file manager, so that you needed to supply the password to the phone before using it, I don't think windows could open SD cards with passwords if you used a card reader, you would first remove the password on the phone. Also formatting would be difficult if you forgot the password.
I'm unsure how secure it was but certainly I'm sure it's better than none.
I believe this may even go back to the days of mmc 8-10 years ago, still after all this time or smart phones and what OS's don't even acknowledge the feature, I wonder why?

Apps in SD card not visible after factory reset of phone?

I was trying to root my HTC One V and i unlocked the bootlocker, however that resulted in factory reset of my phone.Whenever i installed an app on my phone i always moved it to sd card via settings-->apps.I assumed that once my phone restarts after factory reset it will read the apps in the sd card but it is not so.The phone does read songs, pictures and contacts stored on my sd card and the sd card does have the folder of each app but how do i install it from the sd card?
one eplerger
The stock android move-app-to-sd does not move all app data to the sd card and some data is left on the device on purpose.
I might be wrong (since I never researched this) but I think you cannot restore those apps.

Okay
But is it possible that if i install the same app again,it reads the application settings from the sd card?Like if i download and install a game,is it possible for the game to read my score from it's folder in the sd card?
If the app is storing this kind of information (settings etc.) on the sd-card as a separate file then I would say that it is very likely that it will be able to read that data.
But not all apps store that kind of information on the sd-card (security reasons etc.).
I am not sure what happens to the parts of the app itself that are still on the sd-card though (I am talking about the app itself). I guess that the app will not care about those if it is stored in the internal storage. Moving the app to the sd card will probably overwrite the data on the sd-card. If the app stores the settings etc. in one of its own files then it might be overwritten as well.
You might want to make a backup of those files, even if you can't use the information in the end. But if they are gone they are gone.
Some really crazy idea would be to download the app, move it to the sd-card and then overwrite the files on the sd with the ones from the backup.
If android has no verification or security methods for this and there was no update to the app there might be a small change that this will work.
But I guess that the chances to get all your settings and user data back are still very slim as those are possibly not stored there.
But if you have the backup and some xda user swings by with a good idea (or more knowledge that me) you can still try that.

[Q][Help] Need help to backup and restore for root, currently on KitKat

Hey everyone! So I recently installed KitKat (4.4.2) and I completely hate it. Many of my apps are no on working and I do not have permission to write on my SD card. The problem is I plan on rooting on my phone to get back the writing permissions on my sd card; however, many of the backup apps I'm using are no longer working as intended due to the sd card limits. And since rooting my phone is going to cause me to lose my data, what should I do? I have multiple apps that I still need the data from. Is there an app can still backup my content (apps, games(with data), sms, etc) and be able to restore it on KitKat? Please let me know!
I'm using Samsung Galaxy S4
Thanks!!
*Bump*
you can try
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en
it creates a xml backup of your contacts and sms - it can also do apps but I havent tried that
But I think it can only write to SD - be that external sd card or an internal sd card
You could try exporting contacts to sim card then you import them from the sim
Anything else I can think of would require root access

Question Factory Reset my Samsung S23 ultra with no backups...can I recover photos?

So I was using my S23 ultra for camera and video purposes. It had no sim card.
Today i decided to get a sim card for it and use it as a phone finally.
Installing the sim card, It factory reset the phone, I wasnt aware it would do this...and it walked me through the setup the phone stuff.
I dont know if there is any way i can still recover all my pics and videos....the rest of stuff i can live without.
I did find an app called Droidkit which sounded promising but it was unable to ROOT the phone to do a deep scan....i assume cause the S23 is a Canada version.
Which basically brought me here to see if there was a way to ROOT this phone or if there was any other way to try to recover my photos and videos.
I hadnt done any type of backup nor used google photos etc.
I had planned to back everything up when i got home before installing the sim card, but when i bought it, the girl insisted she had to install it herself and make sure it was activated.
anyways, any help is appreciated, thanks!
I have never seen factory reset delete user data on internal simcard.
On samsung phones.
(unless specificaly requested to do so from recovery)
open file manager and browse around , very good chance your stuff is still there.
if it was really reformatted (almost always a quick format) which can allow file recovery,
(stop using phone as much as possible so not to overwrite the the sectors on internal sd)
Back up and restore data or files on your Galaxy device
When you back up and restore content using Samsung Cloud, you'll be able to save important files, download deleted files, and sync data on other devices.

if proficient with android development or linux administration
look in to dumping the filesystems trough usb/adb/recovery and running

PS: samsung phones also have their own backup system besides google images,
if you even registered for a samsung acount on phone (look in to that also)

When Samsung had an sdcard you were able to store images and videos on your sdcard so that when you did a FDR you didn't lose your images or videos. Sorry to say that US and Canadian S23 Ultra's can't be bootloader unlocked at this time so no root for now. You can go to settings>Backup and Restore and see if by chance they were backed up, mine are backed up every so often automatically.

The only possible way is by physically removing emmc and then recovering using UFI tool box.
I don't recommend doing it for yourself as it has to be performed by trained professional.
thanks for all the replies.
didnt have any luck....if the phone was rootable, its possible i could have recovered some i guess.
fortunately it was only a couple months i had the phone....but i still took hundreds of pics n vids in that short time.
lesson learned...backup my shizzle.
i managed to salvage a few bits from messenger of stuff i had sent people.
appreciated.
did you use the file browser on the phone to check standard locations
(not the gallery browser, but actual file browser)
of the internal sd card
/sdcard/ (DCMI,Movies,Pictures)
even storage manager under settings should differentiate between
internal and external sd cards , even if external was formated to be used as internal.
(browse that and see how much space is used up by various things in internal-sd)
as i and others think, that you are just looking at external sd card only for some reason.
and internal sd should still be there with original content , unless purposefully erased
( factory reset should leave that allone )
