Question O9R 12G 256GB WIFI 5G(AC) problem - OnePlus 9R

Anyone Oneplus 9R, come with 12GB RAM, 256GB ROM flash to Oxygen have 5G(AC) WIFI sigal?

same problem on mine. Seems some 5Ghz channel works, but not all (44 works, 147,155 wont work in my test)

Interesting. I wonder if this is due to the SoC.
Can you guys spot these specific channels here? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
Like are they "not normal" somehow?

Hi there.
My two cents.
My 9R only see WiFi 5Ghz channels between 36-64 and 100-128.
Other channels are not seen or connected to.
I checked using an app called WiFi Analyser.
In these channels I do connect OK using a Netgear R7000 router.
Lower channels have better speed in my tests.
The problem is my old Oneplus 5T could see and connect to the full radio spectrum, all channels from 36 to 144.
Missing these channels is an expected behavior for the 9R?
(Spec sheets on gsmarena doesn't talk about these details. They only say that the phone is WiFi dual band compatible)

Z2 Wi-Fi 5GHz issue (missing channels/disappearing channels)

RIght, firstly I've got a UK Z2 (Vodafone model, but unlocked and subsequently flashed with a different ROM).
My problem is that I can't connect to a router that only operates on the following channels at 5GHz; 149. 153, 157, 161.
These are apparently valid in the UK, although my iMac won't see them - but it's a 2009 model. My MacBook Air (US import) does, and my Z1 Compact (with EU Generic ROM) does. So does my Xperia SP. The Z1 I recently sold did too.
Now I assumed that the UK ROM, and now my Taiwanese Z2 ROM (the router is Taiwanese too), supported it because when I turn on the phone, it can see the router. However, it can't connect. It never gets an IP address, and then soon after it disappears never to be seen again! That's unless I reboot, but even then - sometimes - it won't show then either.
The Wi-Fi signal is excellent.
I've read before (for the Xperia Z) that you need a SIM card inserted, and there is. It's a Three UK SIM. That perhaps tells the phone what channels to use? But if it thinks these channels are not allowed, why does it initially show the router? Is there a delay before it notices what can't be used? And why would one UK SIM hide the channels, but not another?
In any case, my Z1 Compact currently has no SIM card inserted but still works.
I'm very confused. It doesn't appear to be a hardware issue (it would be a weird problem if it was), so it must be down to the ROM - and I've had both .55 (Vodafone original and then a EU generic) and now the Taiwanese .69 ROM.
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to try and pre-empt any questions that might get asked.
Basically, is anyone else having the same issue and does anyone know a potential solution? I can't change the channels on the router and there's no other firmware for it. Obviously I could change the router, but I think I'll just have to stick with 2.4GHz in that case.
I know you say no fw is available for the router but im assuming you mean stock? Is dd-wrt/tomato available for it?
My s3 was the same on every custom rom i tried, 5ghz was always iffy :/ Will let you know if 5Ghz works for me when my z2 arrives friday
5 ghz works for me but not using the mentioned channels, in fact my router Won't even allow me to use those channels.

The thing is, the router is from Taiwan and there doesn't appear to be any way to change the channels it operates on. For 5GHz, those four channels are it.
They do appear to be legal in the UK, but many devices won't support them.
I am just confused as to why the channels work on the SP, Z and Z1 Compact but not the Z2. And even more confused because it will show up for a little while but not connect, then disappear. That's an odd way of restricting Wi-Fi channels on the part of the handset.
Can you maybe doing a forget network and then re-adding it?
I'm in Singapore and have no problem connecting to 5Ghz channel 161.
I don't think it makes much sense for them to limit channels on the client side as people can travel anywhere with their smartphones and should be able to use any channel available..

Yes, but some devices do still restrict channels - based on what region you've set, and possibly in this case the SIM card.
I'll need to do further tests, like swapping the SIM for one, to see if that makes it work. At least then I might be in a position to report it as a bug to Sony.
I have removed/forgotten it when it was there, forcing me to re-enter the code, and it just doesn't connect. And while it isn't connected, it does then stop the phone connecting to anything else unless manually select it.
whats the make/model of the router?
Can confirm 5Ghz works just fine for me using Doom's kernel and Aur

I previously owned a Z1 and found that 5ghz wifi was very poor on this device.....I now have a Z2 and the wifi is exactly the same.......works well on 2.4ghz, but poor on 5ghz. My wife's Nexus 5 works well on 5 Ghz so it must be down to Sony's implementation. I am using channels 36-48 not sure if I can access the higher channels, I presume not....think my router only has the lower channels......I have searched the web before for an answer to the problem, but no luck as yet....:crying:
just to add my 2cents to this, My UK bt homehub doesn't have those higher 5Ghz channels highest is 128 lowest is 36
Yeah, this has happened to me recently aswell. I used to connect the 5GHz 802.11ac wi-fi network at home on my Sony Xperia Z2, but a couple'o days ago it disappared. I can't see the 5GHz signal, I'm using 2.4GHz instead. But my laptop can see 5GHz signal and connect without any problems. The channels on 5GHz signal is 149,153 by the way. And channels 11, 7 on 2.4GHz signal.
So what might be the problem within my Sony Xperia Z2?
Thanks in advance.
Oh I just relieved that this problem is not only for me... Okay as some people mentioned wifi for Z1 was poor and Z too... so it might be problem w/
design of Z series. I am using AC-7260 wlan for my PC and seeing 5Ghz AP. But not for Z2....
No jamming around my home, no one is using 5GHz other than my AP.
My Z2 works excellent on my 5ghz channel. I'm on vacation now so can't verify the channel I used. What I do know, is certain devices don't work as advertised with 5ghz. Just because one device sees it doesn't mean every device will. I've had to switch channels a few times for different phones although my laptop has always seen it.
Yeah, it must be the channel issue, I suppose. But at first, my Xperia Z2 was connecting to 5GHz signal without a problem... After a while this issue started. I didn't change any channels or something on my router, either. Interesting...
5GHz signals have inherently smaller ranges than 2.4GHz ones.
That said, my Z2 connects to my 5Ghz AC network just fine (range sucks though) but it has a problem keeping the connection to the 2.4GHz N/Mixed network from the same router (dualband ASUS RT-AC66U) alive after a period of time. It will still show as connected (with good signal strength) but will not have any access to anything else.

Yeah, I'm well aware of this range thing between two signals. But my problem isn't something about it. My phone used to see and connect 5 GHz signal, but it doesn't see 5 GHz signal at all now. Even when I put my phone right on the router, between 6 antennae. (3 x 2.4GHz, 3 x 5GHz antenna)
This must either a software issue, or channels on 5GHz signal... But no, my phone was connecting without any problems for 3 weeks with the same channels. Must be software.
This isn't my only problem with wifi anyway, there's also a Bluetooth interference with 2.4GHz signal. Happens when Bluetooth is on at the same time with wifi. And when connected 2.4GHz signal, connection drops sometimes.
i found this thread now i had posted one earlier today.
what I have figured out is - the moment the SIM is inserted Z2 is taking off the channels that are not "legal" possible in the country determined by SIM.
I am on Telkomsel - indonesia, if NO SIM - I am able to connect on 5 GHZ very well. but once it senses the SIM card, the 5 GHZ vanishes.
This never happend on Z Ultra!
next step is to test on other channels on the router in 5 GHZ to see if it is limitation of Z2. Right now my router supports only 4 channels - 36 40 44 48 on 5 ghz band.
otherwise my mac and other units connect and work pretty well on these channels!
Alright, I've had my Xperia Z2 for 3 months now. I've never connected to my 5 GHz 802.11ac signal before, the phone doesn't detect it. I can only connect via 2.4 GHz band.
Why my phone doesn't detect 5 GHz wifi signal? What's wrong? What do you suggest?
What ia the max link speed you get on 5ghz in z1 compact
I don't know if anyone with a Z2 still has this problem, but I did and I seem to have fixed it by not setting my router to VHT80, but to HT40 instead. As a side note, my Chromecast seems to be able to connect to it now, too. My router is a Netgear Nighthawk (R7000) running the latest DD-WRT Kong Mod.

Nexus 9 Wifi 5GHz

Just got my Nexus 9 today from Google Play store UK. Everything seems working ok, except:
I cannot find any wifi 5GHz. I am connecting to my home 5GHz (Virgin Media Superhub) from my HP Pavillion laptop, MBP, iPhone and iPad. But on Nexus 9, I am not able to scan any 5GHz network:
2.4Ghz works fine though:
I have enabled all possible channels in Settings (Wifi Analyzer):
In system Settings, I have tried both Automatic and 5GHz only:
I have performed OTA updated after first time switched on device and connected to 2.4GHz network at work, didn't notice whether there was an issue on 5GHz until I got home.
So, is there a problem with the latest OTA, or simple this unit needs to be RMA?

Mobile devices don't always support all the 5GHz channels that an access point might use. Try setting the Access point to use the lowest channel, say 36 and see if that works?

Hi Phil
Thanks for the hint. It looks like Nexus 9 only able to see channel 34 ~ 48. My broadband AP has selection of 36 ~ 136, and it was on "Auto Performance" and auto selected channel 100 tonight.
Thanks Phil!

Yeah.. Only 34-48 Weird why it doesn't support more than that.

Different countries have different requirements, but often most countries only allow certain frequencies to be used outside, and other frequencies for 5GHz may only be used inside buildings to prevent interference to radar etc.
A mobile device can of course be used outside, so can end up only being setup to use much fewer frequencies than a router designed for indoor use.
Sometimes the router isn't set to the right country, so ends up using frequencies it shouldn't really be using with the mobile device correctly set so ignoring those frequencies or the other way around. 5GHz is a lot more complex for what frequencies can and can not be used, see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels and the chart at the bottom, you'll understand why 5GHz devices sometimes don't see each other, it's a lot more confusing than 2.4GHz.

Using 5ghz wifi
Hi
To use 5ghz have you tried configuring from WIFI from settings - tapping the three dots next to the magnifying glass - Advanced - WIFI Frequency band.
It gives you the option of selecting 2.4 or 5 or both.

i had the same problem! Thank you so much for the fix!
You should be able to use channels 149-161 as well, it's the channels in between that are set aside for DFS and radar, so many devices don't support them.
Working fine for me on Channel 153 with a Nighthawk R7000.

Got mine to connected on the Virgin Media Superhub by changing the channels as suggested. Can confirm it works but very unstable and keeps dropping connection.
I got the same problem.
I got the same problem! I bought my N9 on Nov 11 and used 5GHz without problem until today. In the WiFi Analyzer suddenly can show 2.4GHz only. I have reboot and clear all WiFi App cache & data., still cannot show.
Even connect to 2.4GHz, it took long time to Connect and Authenticate the connection.

Been a while, but since this is one of the top Google results, and I've been pulling my hair for a couple of hours without finding a solution online, I thought I might chime in with what I found.
If your N9 is not seeing certain 5GHz channels, what is your model, WiFi or LTE? Also, apparently there is an "international" version of the LTE one, which I just got (I'm in the US) because it was cheap, and I didn't mind it affecting certain LTE bands, but I didn't think it would affect WiFi. In any case, the solution was to simply insert a SIM card from my region (T-mobile US) and the missing 5GHz networks appeared in the list. I don't have a solution if this is happening with WiFi-only Nexus 9's though.
You need to insert the SIM after turning on the tablet. If you turn it on with the SIM inserted, it won't show the hidden 5GHz channels. You can just reinsert it, or toggle off/on airplane mode though.
I also googled to see if there was an app to change Wifi regions, but the only one I found (from XDA) requires root, and doesn't work for this particular problem anyway.
Well I have never been able to connect to the 5ghz channel until now. Finally! Changing the router to use channel 48 for the 5ghz and it is running as expected. I love fixes like this.

Do you have a Wi-Fi or LTE model? If you have an LTE model have you tried inserting a SIM card like I said in the post above? I got access to the upper channels which are supposed to be higher performance. From 149 to 161.
whats the highest linkspeed you guys are getting? my nexus 6 gets 866Mbps , i guess it dpends on your AC router specs mine is ac1750 i think
what app do i use to check what channel my nexus 9 is connected to? i think its below 36

5Ghz Wifi issue at higher channels

I can connect my H7 with the lower 5Ghz channels, 36-48, but if I switch my router to any of the higher channels, (I have channels 52 -161 available, but most interested in ch149), the phone doesn't see them when scanning. Other devices I have see these higher channels.
Does anyone connect with the higher 5Ghz channels? Not sure if I have a problem or if the H7 only sees the lower channels.
Well say channel 149 vs channel 136
the power output needed to "pickup" the signal is different by a massive amount its possible the chipset doesn't support it
It might be a regional thing, like we have on 2.4Ghz and channels 12, 13 and 14. First though was just curious if anyone is connected at the higher channels on 5Ghz.

Highest channel i can connect to is 128 on my uk router (Huawei HG635)
Thanks for that, interesting that you can go to 128, what country are you in? Highest my phone will connect to is 48. I wonder what's at play that decides how high it can go? It's not the router that is limiting this for me, its the phone.
For a bit more info about the channel bands have a look here, http://www.digitalairwireless.com/wireless-blog/t-eirp/quick-guide-to-5ghz-uk-part-2.html
I'm limited to band A lower with my Honor 7, still wondering if its a regional limit and because my phone is region UK it's limited to ch 36-48.

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
it does'nt have dual band wifi
Going by the way Asus is targeting its phone and the audience appeal. Definitely it will be developer friendly. With the recent drift by the Asian OEM's moving closer to "Openess" i believe they will allow BL unlock and release the kernel sources as well. (Example, Xiaomi's approach have change towards kernel sources. And now you can buy Redmi 5, minus wait time and flash sales). All the best to Asus for bringing in this device, looking forwards for Developer community to accept it and bring in some action.
Can any one confirm that dual band wifi works or not. Because dual band is supported by soc but not listed in spec sheet

As far as I remember, Asus always had bug in their software. Some Zenfone 5 got freeze when unlocked, Fonepad 8 brightness bug not solved. Maybe when custom rom ready, we can have ac Wi-Fi.
Up till now, there is no confirmation about the wifi ac. No one has tested it yet. From the SD636 spec, it stated SD636 should have integrated WCN3980 wifi ac (not like SD625 which can have separate module). Maybe the wifi ac is disabled to make sure it doesn't compete with the premium product?
ZenFone Max Pro doesn't have Wi-Fi AC. Even the Wi-Fi n has issues. After software upgrade it causing me problems after problems!
can any one confirm what is the max link rate achievable on the 2.4ghz band . Does it atleast got 2 x antenna to support higher throughput
As these days 2.4ghz on phone is good if we have 2x or more antenna to support spatial stream.
I have seen upto 173Mbps which is good and not possible if it dont have 2x antenna. As if the phone is dual band they dont host 2x antenna which can boost 867Mbps on ac and 300Mbps on 2.4ghz which is hard to come. What do they do with all the power just game. . Also ditching type c is really bad. I am disliking this model
wifi connection problem
can any one pls confirm, if they are having the same issue with asus zenfone max pro m1 --
google play store(many times), norton live update(havent worked yet) , and chrome (crashes and has to be restarted to access internet), these all are not working over wifi when mobile data is turned off or phone is in airplane mode. and when i try to turn off the wifi to switch it on again, the button when moves from right to left, the motion is jittery and not smooth, it hangs for a fraction of a sec in middle.
also my phone's -- android security patch level shows 1 may 2018 with build number opm1.ww_phone-15.2016.1805.318-20180712 ? is it the latest or asus have released any latest after this?
1 more issue-- under network & internet > mobile network > network settings, there it shows 2 mobile networks, where it shows one as card 1 (which is actually airtel)but other correctly as vodafone IN. the displays shows CARD 1 / VODAFONE IN.
and 1 more thing-- the option of enhanced 4g lte mode is available under 1 sim only.?? are those ****ty things happening with my device only or its universal apocalypse.
in short- accessing internet over wifi has many issues with many apps not detecting the internet.
lol...1 more issue--- in the quick settings drop down menu where it shows signal ,time battery etc there is no option of mute, or volume adjustment or volume profile soft key or am i missing something here. though volume menu is integrated separately and only pops up when u press hardware vol up/down key. what a ****ty device
Many apps doesn't work on wifi only work in mobile data. Don't know why many people has this issue.

Hi, it show 72 mbps on wifi info shown on my device zenfone max pro m1 4gb variant. Weird 2.4 ghz only can reach 57 mbps highest while my Samsung s8 plus 2.4 ghz can reach 100 mbps. Same setup no download during test. Maybe it's software not optimized? Anyone please test your wifi highest speed can get how much. Thnx.
N00b disclaimer: I do not vouch for the authenticity of what I state below
1) Our device supports only 2.4Ghz WiFi, however I believe the hardware may support 5Ghz.
2) Default Wifi bonding module probably throttles the speed and tweaking the WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini will support 40Mhz and speed up to 150Mbps (Magisk module available but not tested)
3) I have checked the WCNSS file (found 4 instances) and seen that there is no channel bonding mode defined for 2.4Ghz but it is defined for 5Ghz as 0. Devs may be better able to understand the implications.
Note: I have a 6GB 601KL variant running stock rooted v318 firmware with TWRP recovery.
It means that our phone is capable of running 5G ? It requires 5ghz of band something like that . I don't know much about it . Maybe Asus has kept it as a surprise for the users inside the hardware
I just hope in the future update our device support faster than 60 mbps wifi speed.

Well Asus has surprised us by keeping the Camera2Api code in its stock firmware which is why it can be enabled with ADB without root. But don't get your hopes up !
Who use more than 30Mb/s in smartphone ?
It's no make difference in daily use.
For me, 5GHz is not relevant.

S9+ Wifi Mobile Hostpot 5GHz problem

Hello,
I have just gotten an S9+, EU version.
Model SM-G965F
Baseband G965FXXU2BGR8
Build Number R16NW.G965FXXU2BRGA
I live in France, the device came from Italy for 30% less than Samsung prices. It had a double blister and "EU Sim only" sticker" and all that. I checked with Samsung support and it is apparently a proper EU version.
My problem:
My land line is very bad so I got myself an unlimited 4G plan to compensate. I set up a mobile hostpot on the phone and share it with my desktop PC and tablet.
I used to have a Xiaomi Mi Mix that got stolen a couple of weeks ago, and it used to work fine as a 5GHz hostpot. My 3 (long story ) PC USB adapters saw it without a problem. With the S9+, only the 2.4 GHz hostpot is seen, the 5 GHz one is not.
I have a Netgear A6210, an Asus AC54 and a no-name Chinese Realtek-based of the 10€ on Amazon kind. The Netgear and AC54 do not see the 5GHz hotspot. The no-name Chinese does, but it is too unstable to be of any use besides detecting networks. My Chinese Teclast tablet see it as well, but I do not care about this device.
What I saw with the no-name adapter is that the S9+ is transmitting on channels 149 + 153. Europe being 36-140 with the US being 36-165 and China 149-165. The rather dumbed-down interface in the S9+ settings only allows one to change the channel for the 2.4 GHz channels, 1-11, nothing for 5 GHz. For some reason this EU model wants to transmit on US channels. Or, more likely, Chinese channels, since these do not overlap with the EU ones like the US ones do, and that is why my two Chinese devices see it.
For the Netgear, in regedit we have the "CountryRegion" parameter set at 4, I blindly tried some other numbers to no avail. In device manager I tried changing the "5GHz country" parameter on the Asus adapter to no avail, even though most of them do include the 149-153 range.
It's weird that an allegedly EU device will transmit 5 GHz on Chines/US channels, and that it is hardcoded. Samsung support says that's life what you gonna do, return it and see if we care.
Is there a way to change these 5 GHz channels or the country it thinks it is in? I'd rather try this, the alternatives being abusing Amazon's return policy to try and get a stable chinese adapter, or just plain returning the phone.
Thank you.
This is my hotspot setup screen. Does anyone have a channel choice drop down for 5 GHz?
Mine is always connected to a 5ghz band however must say that S9 plus dont like it. near the router the signal is always dropping if I go to 1st floor on the house need to go to the 2.4ghz or 1 bar all the time.

The problem is not connecting to a 5GHz signal, but emitting as a hotspot on non-chinese channels at 5GHz. It's like they are hardcoded into the phone.
I have a Galaxy S9 and it used to hotspot to my xbox 360 with no issues. Since updating my S9 I can no longer do this. I'm terrible with technology and need a simple answer. Will my S9 ever be able to connect to a xbox 360 again?
