if the bootloader is unlocked, say doom kernel is intsalled then at startup can we select which custom rom to boot into?

so i unlocked my bootloader using unofficial method installed twrp from adb and every rom i flash be it a custom rom or the original rom it gets stuck on boot animation forever (i left it over the night to conform ).i tried resurection remix , lineage os and the miui 8 stock rom.
I have a moto G3, uk model, running MM 6.0.1 rooted with system less superSU, and want to transition to magisk, only to find a boot loop on the boot loader unlocked screen, (maybe because the boot.img I have is for lollipop 5.0.1) any idea how to replace superSU with magisk? (Ps: I have restored with my twrp backup, so I have the SUPERSU boot.img)
Pretty simple really, it is the Pixel Boot Animation but for Magisk so it is systemless and no need to backup your old one.

I assume we have to flash it normally, right?
I have been trying to install a custom recovery (tried TWRP and Orange Fox) but every time I boot into the recovery I just get stuck on the realme logo for a while before the phone reboots and replaces the recovery with the stock recovery and then boots into the OS.
I don't get any errors when flashing the recovery, but it will never boot into it.
Do I need to downgrade to RealmeUI 1.0 and Android 10?
