The app on Windows doesn't detect my device even though it's connected and USB debugging is enabled. What could be the issue?
windows most likely doesn't recognise your device in ADB mode. Install the universal ADB drivers from here, reboot your PC and try again.
Does my device need to be Rooted or unlocked Bootloader ?
Only The Flasher, Wiper and Camera2 modules tools in Fastboot mode require an unlocked bootloader but everything else works without rooting or unlocking. such as uninstalling.
What apps are safe to uninstall?
All applications in the list are safe to uninstall. You might lose access to some services but the device will keep working just fine. Some other apps, like Gallery or Security, aren't listed because uninstalling them would soft brick your device.
Do uninstalled system apps affect OTA updates?
No, you are free to install updates without the fear of bricking your device or losing data.
Do uninstalled system apps come back with updates?
No, uninstalled apps should only come back when you reinstall them or factory reset your device.
Why does the Uninstaller hang on some apps?
There are some apps Global MIUI doesn't let you uninstall but Chinese MIUI does. If you try to uninstall an app like that, the tool might hang. If that happens, close the tools, disconnect your device, uninstall the app manually, then launch the tools again and reconnect your device to proceed.
Why does the Uninstaller fail to uninstall some apps?
If the attempted uninstallation of an application results in a failure or anything other than success, that isn't a bug or an issue within the program. It means that ADB was not able to uninstall the application and there is nothing we can do about it. Similary, if an uninstallation has no result at all (neither success nor failure), that means that ADB didn't report anything, therefore the program cannot derive any information about the successfulness of the uninstallation.
How do I regain uninstalled system apps?
Simply reinstall them using the Reinstaller module when connected in ADB mode. In case the Reinstaller module is disabled because your device doesn't support it, you must perform a factory reset.

Are you sure that it's totally safe to uninstall anything except only Gallery & Security?
Because, for example, like this article said, it's not only those Gallery & Security which not safe to be uninstalled.
Can you elaborate, please, Mr @Abdullah.Csit ?

Yes, it should be but sometimes on some devices it end in boot loop or whatever. anyway if you has unlocked bootloader then you don't care to what your linked article mentioned because you will have option to get in fastboot and flash fastboot rom then everything will get back.
Anyway, I will add these services to warning section, as long you see it's just about user experience not such as company or an official list ...
besides some of these services in tool is safe to remove and not even listed in the tool (unsafe to remove).
Thanks, Regards.

And indeed the Security app is the one with many bloatwares inside LOL..

Do you know how to install MIUI dialer and messaging app on Global ROM? It really annoys me to use google apps cause I don't like them. I have read that there is xiaomi.eu ROM that has all the stock apps, but I don't want to unlock my bootloader cause I still have warranty...

[Q] tektra how on earth do you deactivate it ?

i downloaded tektrak from samsung apps on my s2 ... ive had a look and its ok but its draining my battery how on earth do you deactivate it / uninstall it ??
ive tried to uninstall and it says it cant
the company is based in usa so its gonna be a while before they answer ...
anyone used it and uninstalled it ???
tektrak is not easy to uninstall because we do not want unauthorized users to be able to simply remove the application from your phone, thus preventing you from securing it. In addition, some features require setting tektrak as an administrator. To remove the application, please go (on your Android device) to the phone's Settings->Location and security->Select device administrator and make sure that the checkbox next to tektrak is unchecked. Then click deactivate. Next, go to Settings->Applications->Manage applications->tektrak and click uninstall.

Unbranded Android TV - No android settings app

Hi everyone,
I have an unbranded (sticker brand) Android TV that apparently has a custom firmware with almost everything modified, with the most annoying thing is that they have completely removed the stock Android settings app and replaced it with a custom settings app that has hardly any options. That prevents by from doing even basic stuff such as cleaning app's cache and data. Using ES Task Manager I've verified that they actually removed the settings app and not just the launcher link.
Is there any way I can get the native settings app into the device? Is there any alternative settings app that does a good job? I can install apks from unknown sources but no ADB (no hardware connection to PC).
Also, any rooting advice will also be appreciated but this is not critical. I have no ADB but the Android version is 4.4.2 and not really updated so exploit-based roots may work.
Bump

Kingroot stuck as system apps

I rooted my phone using kingroot before and after removing al root authorization i found that kingroot has been installed as system app
also whenever i open the kingroot app it restarts my phone
how could i completely remove it
there's also the problem of the phone not able to connect to google play store (no connection, cannot login account)
my phone is NTT Docomo Sony Xperia SO-O4E
tried factory reset twice, deleting cached apps data, still doesnt work
a basic rundown on how it all happened :
-uninstall some bloatware from phone
-phone starts to restart randomly
-deleted cached apps data, no more random restart
-remove kingroot root auth and uninstall
-found out that phone cannot connect to play store, also kingroot has installed itself as system app

If your bootloader is already unlocked, the easiest way would be to restart the phone in fastboot mode, then boot (you don't need to flash it) TWRP and install SuperSU from a flashrecovery zipfile. This will remove kingroot app and running processes (mind you, there may be some dead kingroot traces left over on the filesystem - if you want to remove these too, you'll have to do so from a shell with root permissions). I haven't tried this with the Sony Xperia ZR/NTT Docomo Sony Xperia A (SO-04E), but it seems to work with most phones that are supported by TWRP. I wrote a short guide on how to do this (it's for a different device but these steps should be mostly generic if you have the necessary prerequisites in place).
Another good thing about SuperSU is that if you don't wish to keep root, it will remove itself cleanly and completely from your system (you'll find the unroot option in the apps settings). If however you would like to keep root, then SuperSU is an app that doesn't spy on you and doesn't phone home (I did a thorough check of the shell script used to install SuperSU and a rough check of the SuperSU apk using strings and wireshark only yesterday and as far as I could tell, it doesn't attempt to do anything malicious or touch files that it doesn't need to touch for its purpose, nor did it start a single internet connection by itself). The automatic NVISO analysis at https://apkscan.nviso.be/report/show/99a7841aa3eeaefa69f767602b0c454c confirms this too. Just saying this in case you decided to move away from root due to spyware concerns.
TWRP is an open source project. Their Homepage is https://twrp.me/
The TWRP image files for your device arel located here https://dl.twrp.me/dogo/
SuperSU homepage is https://www.chainfire.eu/ , the latest flashrecovery zipfile can be found here http://www.supersu.com/download
Both projects also have their own sections here on xda.
SuperSU also has it's own sections here on xda.

Was this problem related to the rooting process in any way?
Does your internet access work otherwise?
What happens exactly when you start google play?
hi, thank you for the reply
the phone has only been rooted once with kingroot app, which i have removed (both the supposed app and the root auth), but kingroot app installed itself as system app without my permission and whenever i open the app my phone reboots
i'll try looking for ways to flash the phone
as for the play store, it always show the no connection screen even though i can browse the internet without any problem
i tried following the steps from google help page but it doesnt seem to do anything
i'm thinking that the hosts.txt file cause this so im trying to delete it, but i found no other way to delete it without rerooting my phone
i tried factory reset twice but it doesnt seem to help either
thanks before and sorry for the late reply
EDIT : i dont think i can unlock the bootloader officially so i need an exploit

In that case, you will have to root first. Once having gained root access you can unlock the bootloader. To root, you can either use the kingroot app you used before (not much to loose, since you already installed it and its spyware the first time, and you will later be able to remove it with SuperSU). Or you can try towelroot, although if your smartphone has seen firmware updates, that will propably no longer work. There may be other, more current options - search trough the Xperia ZR Section.
Once you have root, you can use adb and fastboot to boot the latest TWRP for Sony Xperia ZR, then install the latest SuperSU recovery flashable zip. Using that you can completely remove Kingroot even as a system app and afterwards remove SuperSU itself, which will cleanly uninstall itself via Settings.
Code:

I would try the above first, see if the playstore works again after you SuperSU has completely removed Kingroot (reboot), and if it doesn't take a look at the hosts file. Then uninstall SuperSU when you don't need root anymore...
I can help along with adb/fastboot commands, but you need to root your device first (and install the necessary drivers for your phone on your computer).
Good luck!

Greenify no longer active on Huawei Nova Plus (No Root - Marshmallow 6.0)

Dear developers,
I have a question.
Greenify (as specified above: Model : Huawei Nova Plus, Marshmallow 6.0 No Root modality) has always worked
(obviously, in No-root modality, I had to launch it every time): now, with the new updates, every time I try to launch it, in the setting options of my system I find the authorization unselected (although I had selected it before) and I have to authorize it each time, in the settings, before being able to launch it. This makes it dreadfully boring (before I authorized it only once and it worked for months). Please kindly let me know how to solve it. Many thanks. Cheers

Clear the data and cache of Greenify, uninstall it and reboot. Now install it again and give the necessary permissions and see if it works. If not, after uninstalling as above, install an earlier version which worked.

Help needed in unlocking ACT Stream 4K TV Box

Recently i got a 4K Android Stream box for my network plan from my ISP - ACT Fibernet in india
I have disconnected the connection due to relocation and have no ACT in the new place
The issue is the Android Box only runs in the ACT network and doesnt work in other network
Is there a way to make the android box work in other networks?
Or flash a Android TV os and make it standalone ?
As the new box has good specs and supports Steam Link and other features
New to this android TV experience. Any help would do.. :fingers-crossed:
Tech Specs
Operating System : Android 9
Main Chipset : Hi Silicon 3798M V200
RAM : 2GB
Flash : 8GB
DRM : Widevine & Playready
WiFi : Dual band (2.4G & 5G) & 802.11 ac
Ports Available : 2 USB ports, 1 Ethernal port, 1 HDMI port, 1 AV output, 1 SD crad slot
Me too looking for the same info.
Hey me to..
when they have network issue.. this is useless.
need same info
I need the same info too.. is there a way to root or install custom rom like how you do traditional android tv boxes?
I have not found the way to unlock it, but there is a work around to use it without ACT network.
----------------------
Install below two apps by sideloading the apk files.
1. Sideload Launcher
2. Launch on Boot
Open Launch on boot and mark 'Sideload launcher' as the app to boot.
---------------------
if you press accidentally home button while NOT using ACT network,
you can then also use 'Google play store' button in the remote to select the app 'Launch on boot' and open 'sideload Launcher' app.
Thanks
SK
Thank you for the sideload launcher idea and it works as expected.
I wish we have an option to install a custom launcher on this as its the Act Launcher that is causing problem when its not connected to an Act Network.
I am looking for the same - unlock the Android TV from ACT

Were you able to use the ACT TV outside of ACT network? Please let me know. Thanks
Yes I am able to use it as per above launch on boot and sideload launcher method.
How were you able to access the settings or play store when on the non-ACT network page? My device will not let me access them other than the network selection.
I'm able to access play store and other apps right from the day I bought it. On the top banner you have different pages the 2nd one is apps. Select that and scroll down, then you can see play store and other apps you have installed. Only the TV section won't work if the device is not connected to act network.
Regarding Choosing "Launch On Boot" option
How do i select the "Launch On Boot" option, please help.
If you could provide the steps or screenshot, it would be really helpful.
Alternate launchers
All my attempts at installing alternate launcher fail with
Code:
$ adb install ~/Downloads/Taskbar-5.0.1.apk
adb: failed to install /home/reshma/Downloads/Taskbar-5.0.1.apk: Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_BAD_PACKAGE_NAME: Package couldn't be installed in /data/app/com.farmerbb.taskbar-NJD_XsOJWsvV-uhprRNnOw==: Package com.farmerbb.taskbar do not allow to install.]
Have you guys been able to find any way to install other launcher apps?
Works!
I managed to make it work with the two apps. I was looking through the Airtel internet TV forum and for that, you can enablee developer mode and use adb bridge to completely remove the associated apps to get a stock OS. However, when I try to click on build option 7 times (and more), it does not work on ACT TV. Has it been disabled on this? How can we enable developer options in this? If anyone can confirm with the same issue.

Thanks for the idea. I installed the app from play store (it installs but it will not show up, you can use voice command to open or from settings). Then, it enables developer options following which I ran adblink to uninstall all apks which began with in.actcorp. One note is that the normal uninstall option in adblink will not enable you to delete all apps, it is required to use pm uninstall -k --user 0 [apk name] in the adb shell to get it done. Once done, the box works, however I'm not too sure on how to get the default android TV launcher to open up, pressing the home button on remote takes to a blank screen only. If someone can help, I'll be grateful!

Wow. This is great progress. Let me try these steps too. What I can tell you now is if you can install apks, try installing atv launcher or open play store using the voice assistant and install a launcher from there. I'll try this on my end too and see what can be done about the default launcher. Earlier, it never used to let us install any launcher apps. Sideload launcher was the only app we could install.

I was able to uninstall all the act apps. But something is blocking launcher apps from installing. Android tv home launcher is what we need to install but can't install it either from adb or from playstore. Do you have some command to force install or do you know where the blocked list is?

Resetting restores all the apps you have uninstalled. Including the act launcher app. Another way that may work is to somehow rename the android home launcher apk to in.actcorp.actottlauncher.
And make it to install over the current app.
