You need the boot.img, then unlock the bootloader, patch the boot.img with magisk manager, then flash the patched boot.img with fastboot. You're rooted.
When someone leaks the stock boot.img(shipped with full rom zip's), it's possible

I haven't found the full ROM yet
I was able to unlock the bootloader. While unlocking, the text is extremely small. Its a little pain to read, a magnifier is good or use older phone with zoom to read.
Does OP still provide links to ColorOS and beta ROMs on its website? It used to, but there appears to be nothing for any models now.
I just received mine and on first boot an update was downloaded and installed, i'm now on 11.3 A.07 , does anyone have the changelog of this build ?

I have a few questions about the redmi note 3 SD:
1. Should I have android marshmallow? From what I have researched the phone should have an update to marshmallow but the phone is currently on 5.1.1 and MIUI 8.0.6.0 and cannot find any updates. Is this an issue or will it update soon?
2. Using trepn profiler the cores never seem to go to sleep , always at a minimum of 691MHz. An old snapdragon s4 play can put its cores to sleep, why isn't this phone doing it? Would this affect battery life?
3. Is there a way to disable 4G? I dont need 4G on as the phone doesn't support my carriers bands , would this also increase battery life?

1. Did you unlock your bootloader? I've used the Marshmallow MIUI version before (Currently using AospExtended 7.1.1) and it should be able to find one. It's been available for a very long time already.

You may want to do a clean flash since some of the vendors will install a rooted rom, in which case, i don't believe you will get an OTA.

Also if you disable miui optimisation in developer settings, OTA will not work.
My best advice to you:
Flash in EDL mode latest developer fastboot ROM with MiFlash...

1. Yes you would get system updates without unlocking bootloader, you don't need to unlock it. And you might not get system updates if you unlock it (not sure because i've only used MIUI for a few weeks). I recommend you to flash an official MIUI ROM, because you might be in a vendor rom and they might have tampered with stuff that made updates unavailable. You might want to try @goofball2k and @dennis's advice.
2. I've used CPU-Z to check my cpu states before when I was still in MIUI and I can see that it is sleeping the cores just fine. Usually 4 little cores are alive and big cores sleep in light workloads.

That is NOT official MIUI Global ROM link, that site says it is only based on official firmware but is a custom build.

I have installed the Rom from your link and after resetting the battery sensors within the GSAM battery app, there is already a lot less drain. In fact 100% less, ( so far) so my battery life should likely be twice as good as it was on the Mi-Globe rom. Thank you!
Edit: Sound Quality is also better on this Rom

Although this Rom has much better better battery life, the "custom: Mi-Globe Rom has A LOT more features....Miui features.
Such as :
Face unlock, a seemingly better camera, No ads whatsoever, AOD Lockscreen clocks ( wide variety) less bloat, Advanced restart options, Dual GPS and many more features that I can't recall at the moment.
Why doesn't the Global Rom have these features? Yet?

I can confirm Google pay now works on 9.3.14 beta.
I used it today for the 1st time since moving from stable to beta months ago, after seeing it worked for someone else on the miui forums.

I wanted to share with you my device set-up (MI9TPRO EUROPEAN), as always, doesn't mean that it works for you all in the same way, and as we know, customs roms have their risks. At the moment this rom doesn't work android auto, so if this is an important thing for you, don't follow this guide.
After trying the following roms:
xiaomi.eu (this would be my recommendation for people who don't want "play" too much with the device, it is very stable and they update it weekly)
LineageOS 17.0
Evolution X 3.5
Havoc-OS-3.0
crDroid Android 6
Pixel Experience [AOSP]
I think I found the best configuration for me:
ROM = Evolution X * follow the steps described in the rom post
VENDOR = RAPHAELEEAGlobal-V11.0.5.0.QFKEUXM-10.0-vendor-firmware.zip * You have to install this before installing the ROM, first this and then without restarting, the ROM
CAMERA = It includes by default with the port of the stock camera, I have downloaded the gcam here https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-urnyx05/#apk1475 Urnyx05 apks
MAGISK MODULES = XMLPAK AND YOUTUBE VENCED BLACK

For gesture control (the native of Android is included), I have installed this application: Fluid Navigation Gestures
For notifications, I use this application: NotifyBuddy
As a launcher: Lawnchair 2
I also have dark mode and transitions disabled in developer options.
As a quick tip, if you install any rom cooked for this mobile (at the moment), configure the fingerprint once the initial configuration screens have passed, with maximum brightness and several times for the same finger.
With this configuration I get the following:
Stability: My device hasn't been restarted or frozen once
Speed: Everything is super fluid
Battery: 8 hours of average screen with the typical apps that we all use

I have the EEA mi9t pro.
About the fingerprint, I wasn't configure it during the first installation and once the system started up I added my fingerprint (3 times for one finger and 2 for another) with the maximum brightness, and works very well.
I have only tried that vendor because it was the recommended for my terminal, but I don't discard trying more, if I do I will write the results obtained.
And for the moment I haven't suffered any freezing with various open applications

Hardbrick Solution:
No Free solution, only MSM Auth
Identification of Hard brick:
A hard brick refers to a device that is no longer able to boot up or function properly due to a software malfunction.
Volume up + down + USB = 9008 Port in device manager under COM Port
1. black screen even after pressing keys
2. 9008 device in device manager
3. Qualcomm bulk device in device Manager
Only Black Screen No Bulk or 9008 Device in Device Manager: this the totally dead condition if device stuck on black screen & not show a 9008 Port then you have to short test Point, this is the major issue after flashing a bootlader image from fastboot, flashing boot & system related partition not cause hard brick, so i already mention above don't flash a mbn or bin file from fastboot (these files mostly available in ofp/EDL ROM)
Wondering if anyone have successfully flash the 11R rom on Ace 2. Highly appreciate if tutorial is available
Is this phone worth getting? I'm looking to change to 11R which is a less expensive flagship phone till date!

bugs so far:
1.adjust down brightness, then open auto brightness in Notification drawer,the brightness bar is unstable.

what model do you have, is it 12/256? is it showing 12/256? i know that 11r only has 8/128 and 16/512, so 12/256 might not work here

And there are no hiccups even if you are running a version of hardware that does not exist (at least is not sold) as an 11R?

Ram and storage are shown correctly.
2 issues so far:
- auto-brightness
- hanged twice while reading Locked screen notification. One time this morning, another 2 days ago. Reboot and resume normal.
