General Flat Screen FTW - Google Pixel 6

I appreciate that Pixel 6 Pro has a bigger screen, but I prefer a smaller, flat screen like on the Pixel 6. Anyone else? I'm just kind of over curved screens....the mispresses, the image distortation, it's just not for me.
Who else is on team flat screen??

I prefer the 6 Pro finally bigger screen. I've been using the OnePlus curved bigger screens for a few years with out noticing any obvious bothersome distortion...

I wish the 6 would have a QHD screen and not a 1080 FHD. Far as curved or flat screens either is fine imo. I sure hope Pixel 6 series all have little to no issues. It's about time Google shows up the world and develops a phone that can't be beat! Last 6 yrs I stick with Pixel or OnePlus. Now I'm all Pixel! Love my 4XL!!!

100%
after the nightmare of dealing with screen protectors on the S20, I likely will never buy another curved screen.
I have a pixel 4 as well and it took 2 minutes to put a screen protector on and it cost $12 on Amazon, also I have 2 left if it ever breaks.
The s20 on the other hand requires an insanely complex process (frame it, put optically clear uv glue, then carefully put the glass on and make sure it doesn't bubble or dust and then get the glue even and then use a UV light to cure it. insane). Took me 3 tries and spent close to a $100 and I have 0 backups.
Flat screen ftw

I don't know what kind of screen protector you have but the one I have you just drop on top of it and it covers the side and it's hard glass and the fingerprint reader still works and it took probably about 30 seconds to install

Just one word "Awesome"

Flat screen FTW.
I can't wait for this phone!

EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE!!!!!

I've been on the Note series for a long time now and even though the curved screen does give the look of having no bezels on the side, it can be a PITA for me too. I do however love that they are going with the more squared off corners on both the 6 and 6 Pro, similar to the Notes (I REALLY don't like the super rounded edges like the Sammy S line). I have more of a preference to that way more than the curved sides.

Curved screen sounds rad. But not sure if I'm 100% sure. I like the flat screen on my pixel 5. But might be worth checking it out. What do you think?

Not a fan of the curved screens, leaves the sides exposed even with a case and only the Whitestone protectors work around the corners. I am also done with the liquid application of the screen protectors.

I have never used a curved screen myself but my friends had it and I hated every second of the 0.5mm screen bleed from both of the sides (the white light that comes from the image/screen from the curved sides). And I also know that it is quite hard to protect such screens with a bumper on the side, i.e. if it falls on the side over something shard (that top and bottom bumpers cannot protect from), then it will directly hit the screen. And back then there was no control over sensitivity on sides, so you could accidentally register a touch on the screen.
I have used flat phones exclusively and since the start of note edge (i.e. note 6), I wasn't a fan of it. So, a win point for pixel 6 over 6 pro
I also do NOT like QHD screens, as I am a biologist and I know that our eyes cannot differentiate higher than 300 dpi (depending on the distance between eyes and the screen). So all the extra resolution is going to waste (i.e. battery drain because of higher use of GPU/CPU). So, a win point for pixel 6 over 6 pro
I am also not a fan of the telephoto lens, as it is easy to strap on a high-quality adjustable telephoto lens on a smartphone and get higher resolution and control rather than a telephoto that is squeezed into a phone form factor.
So, a win point for pixel 6 over 6 pro.
And lastly, the screen refresh: I have used 120 and 90fps both on different Samsung galaxy A series devices, but still, I am fine with 60fps in normal usage and maybe jump to 90/120 fps while gaming. So, no points for either pixel 6 or 6 pro.
I have used screens as large as 6.5 (SG-A 51) and it was fine, though slightly high (20:9 screen ratio). The same was with iPhone 13 pro max on hand. So, I think pixel 6 will hit the sweet spot between big enough and too big to use. So, a win point for pixel 6 over 6 pro.
Pixel 6 pro seems to have better camera features. So that is a win point for 6 pro.
My overall judgment: Pixel 6 is a winner over 6 pro.
P.S. This is all my personal opinions and not to start a discussion of "how could you" types

I've never owned a curved screen, would like the pro's specs, but want a flat screen and smaller phone. Plus I like bumper cases if anyone makes one, but unsure if those are applicable on curved screen phones.
currently on a pixel 4xl with a rhino shield bumper case that has protected my phone for years through drops, and prevents it from overheating by having an exposed back.

I can't stand curved screens after using them on Samsung phones. Flat all the way. Curved makes no sense once you use it enough unless it's a secondary display.

really wished the pixel 6 came in the beige sunshine color of the pro but it was an obvious choice for me.
I don't know if I'll miss the extra ram and going from 120hz to 90 but we'll see. I can always return it and get the pro.

I 110% agree with you. My wife still has a S8+ and I hated the curved screen from day one.

If you've ever used a liquid UV glue glass screen (great results when perfect, lots of practice required) then you'll know why flat is the preferable choice for a long term device

Can say I runined one on my OnePlus 7 Pro back in the day. Did a good enough job the 2nd time around.
Ever since its been flat screen phones for me.

Curved screens are a gimmick, but if implemented well, not necessarily a deficiency. Samdung likes to wrap the display area into the curved edge of the screen, which is a pretty bad idea. The Google phones I've used and owned with curved screens (including Nexus 6 and Pixel 2XL) have been much more tastefully configured where the image stops before the actual curve in the screen, so there is no touching or looking through the curved glass. This works well and I've never had any issues with this.
Now I guess the question is... does it make it worse than it would be if completely flat? Aside from trying to match a glass screen protector to the curve, I don't think it does. I haven't used a screen protector since my Palm Treo 650, which had a resistive (plastic) screen that would have scratched without something over it. From a physics standpoint, the curve will make the glass more rigid than a flat screen, which could protect it from certain impacts, however it also "sticks out" a bit, which will make it a bit more vulnerable to other impacts. With a protective case around it, you probably get the best of both, since the screen will be a little stronger, but not sticking out and therefore not more vulnerable.
I agree that the screen on the P6P is a bit big... but for me, only in the vertical direction. I'm using a Nexus 6 right now instead of P2XL entirely *because of* the extra screen width. From what I can tell, the P6P is very nearly as wide as the Nexus 6, difference of something like 2 mm. But holding the N6 up to the P6P case shows that the P6P is *insanely* tall. Its going to be an adjustment for sure.

I can't stand big phones anymore. Too cumbersome. Had a Pixel 5 and now a Sony Xperia 5 ii. Love the small form factor and will probably never buy a big phone again.

Remove scratch from screen

I have a little scratch on it, like 4 mm long and when i have a white background, its very good noticeable, it deforms the colors.
I have no screen protector, i ordered 1 yesterday, but it seems i'm to late. I always keep my G1 in the nice pocket that came with it.
Can i do it away, or do i have to live with it ?

there is a way for non - touch screen phones but i dont think there is a way for touch screen ones, however i could be mistaken
sanding paper 6000 grit+ ( gluck finding those )
or maybe cd scratch remover
I never tried any of those so you might want to wait for a more appropriate answer
** I remove my ps3 scratches with 2k grit sand paper , some wax and voila no more scratches but I'm really not sure if 6000 grit paper or even 8000-12000 grit paper might do the job for a screen. Try it on a very old screen if you ever want to try sanding down your screen
Try using tooth paste, yes toothpaste, the colgate kind, it has some grit to it. No guarantees though, be careful, not responsible for minty fresh dead phones.
or google that stuff advertised in the late 90's to remove scrathes from eyeglasses... was I thing a self leveling polymer or some such.... but not to expencive

This is your best bet but you're going to have to be careful not to leave any on the screen where there is no scratch.
These are capacitive touchscreens, the surface of the glass/screen is special.
bad recommendation. sorry
Edit: Nevermind... Applesauce only works for ipods. Evidently it's too abrasive for the iphone, so it would be too abrasive for us too.

Attention: use only on non-coated surfaces and plastics; when used on mobile phones, treat only the transparent portions of the display lens. Not for use with touch screen displays.
Google "displex for touch screen" and you will come up with a ton of results saying it is not for touchscreens, especially capacitive like the G1 because it will remove the indium tin oxide that conducts the electric flow across the screen.
i guess sanding is out of question then
i tough there was some plastic protector to protect the real screen
Some of the screen protectors can hide scratches when applied. The Invisible Shield has been known for this due to its flexible material. No guarantees though.

I can confirm this, I actually just used a screen protector on my old VX6900 Vogue, it made most of the scratches disappear except for this one very very deep one.
I got some of the mirror protectors, a bit meh, kinda covers one of the 2 small scratches on my screen (not that they are that noticeable anyway). I have the standard kind in the post, so I'll try one of those when they get here.
Vaseline works great on most standard LCDs. The day I bought a 19" WS LCD I knocked it over, coffee all over it, but on it's way down it caught the edge of my baccy tin, leaving a bright blue stuck pixel in the middle of a scratch (arghh). Luckily I was able to massage out the pixel and cover over the scratch with some clear Vaseline, it's still visible, but only from extreme angles (way beyond the viewing angle of the screen).

Yeah I mean it won't work on a phone, it's pretty good on a proper LCD, I think because the refractive properties are far closer to the material than air.

Tempered Glass Comparison ZAGG vs iLoome Flex

I've used both of these on both my G2s and G3s and want to share my findings. Feel free to share other brands and your results.
I carry my phones two ways. During work, they are in my shirt pockets where the only things rubbing on them are paper and the occasional dollar bills(between 6-14 hours a day). When not working, I place my phones in my front pocket with the screens facing each other. Keys and change will also be in that pocket. When I only have one phone, the screen faces my leg(between 2-4 hours average). I almost always have both phones at the same time.
iLoome Flex: This protector has a hardness rating of 8H. Despite that, it is flexible. I chose this first because I expected the flexibility to help dissipate any force applied to It. It did it's job well. Over a 6 month time period, it never chipped or cracked until I removed it, where it then basically crumbled to pieces during removal. The fit was good, not great. There was a gap around the edges, but that became a moot point once I put on my incipio case. I did not have any lifting issues like others have claimed. Installation was somewhat easy because of a taped hinged installation design to help figure out placement prior to removing the adhesive protection. There was still some difficulty due to it being smaller and trying to center the gaps while aligning the opening for the sensors. The feel of the glass wasn't as smooth as a bare screen and took some adjusting. In the end I preferred this because it allowed me to be more accurate in my selections and typing. I ended up removing it because after 6 months of use, the screen had become scuffed from use., which makes me question the hardness rating. That being said, I prefer the feel of this over a bare screen.
ZAGG: this protector has a hardness rating of 9H. There is very little play in regards to flexibility. The fit of this protector was superior with a very small gap which disappeared once a case was put on. Installation is the same as every other ZAGG protector, but this was the easiest I had ever done. Because of the great fit, it went on the first time and didn't need to squeegeed. Thinking I got lucky, I removed it and tried again with the same result. The feel of the protector is much slicker than the iLoome and dare I say, even the screen. It really feels like there isn't anything there. Since I've used It, however, the slickness has been a problem for me. I make more typing errors and accuracy has gone down the drain. When playing games like clash of clans where I can tap and hold, I get no response because my finger will almost always slide. It takes 2-3 deliberate tries before I get the desired response. In addition, I get A LOT of accidental screen presses from something as simple as scrolling through a page or feed. I have touch tracking on and the accuracy is off while using this protector by a millimeter or two. Sometimes, touches won't even register. This alone is almost enough to make me switch back to iLoome. After only a month, the screen still looks brand New. As for the actual protection, it was accidentally chipped by someone in an environment where it shouldn't have happened. Clearing away the chipped area resulted in smaller chips coming off. Once it was cleaned, it seemed like ther would be no other damage. Later that night, I dropped the phone about 3 1/2 feet flat on it's face. The raised edges of the case kept the screen from actually contacting the concrete. When I examined the phone, there was now a 1 1/2 inch hairline crack coming from the chip. It is barely noticeable and doesn't feel like it's there. No bubbles or lifted areas. I enabled developer options and tested touch across all areas of the chip and crack and found no loss of function and there was full responsiveness. This is still currently on my G3. I plan to keep it on for a while longer to see how it stands up to daily wear and tear.
I'll update as I continue to use the ZAGG and what I decide to use in the long run as well as other protectors I try out. Again, feel free to share your own experiences with these or other glass protectors.
Dropped my phone on its corner today. The crack spread across the screen. Still no effect on usage, but it wasn't a big or hard drop. It seems that once the ZAGG is chipped, it's shot.
I used an iCarez 0.2mm tempered glass screen protector on my G3. It was an easy install in the steamy bathroom and provides pretty good sensitivity, unless my fingers are really dry and cold.
It also smears really bad if your fingers are the least bit oily or greasy. Don't handle the phone after eating buttered popcorn. It claims to be olephobic, but maybe not so much.
Lastly, on my first airline flight with it, it cracked a couple of curves across the lower left. Nothing fell off. iCarez is sending me a replacement, but made sure to tell me that breaking it voids the warranty. It was in my pants pocket when it cracked. I might go with a tough plastic one next.

Best advice ever! Always forget the steamy bathroom. Really does make a difference!
Have bnib 9h 0.3mm icarez true glass. Got as gift. Probably saving for when I sell the phone. Currently using icarez matte protector. I basically said ok I'll put on the tempered glass as soon as this plastic ones scratches. But no matter what this plastic one is not scratching at all. Kind of funny. What's everyones comment on screen sensitivity? I'm very concerned that using anything other than a regular protector that it's going to significantly decrease sensitivity to touch.

I don't understand the G3 touch sensitivity at all. Mine seems sometimes to just be untouchable. I mean, like in Ingress, I will sometimes have to really bang on the button several times before it will register a press, then other times it is normal, for the same button. I am not at all sure this has anything to do with the glass protector though. Almost seems like lag.

I have the Zagg and just like you I have sensitivity issues to the point I get frustrated at times when it wouldn't respond to my taps and presses. I don't get much smudging but I have nothing to compare it to. I was thinking of getting Spigen's GLAS.tR NANO SLIM protector since it is 0.23 mm thick compared to Zagg's 0.4 mm thickness but the price is pretty steep.

How could samsung improve the note 7 design.

With the wide recall happening its had me wondering if i should get my money back and wait for the note 8.
Thinking about it i wonder how the note 7 design could be improved. As far as physical design is concerned, its form factor and erganomic shape and sleek bezel. Its what we have been dreaming about in a phone for the last few years. The side bezels cant get any smaller. The top and bottom bezel ideally wouldnt want to be too much smaller as it affects hand placement and comfort.
So other than the obvious hardware upgrades, what can be invisioned past this point. Usually i have a idea of what i would like to be improved, but i got nothing.
What do you guys think ? Anything in the physysical design you would want improved. Not including material choices such as glass, plastic etc. Shape only.
If anyones got fan renders of a design they quite like, please share. Would be interesting.
Heres some i like.

Samsung has moved the headphone jack from the top to the bottom. In a perfect FU to Apple, put a headphone jack on BOTH the top and bottom.

Thats more of a feature.
Im also a note7 user and i am also considering money back option. I think samsung should give up on edge screen. It is not comfortable to use. A minimum amount of side bezels are needed for holding the device without blocking the screen. Also sharp corners are better than round corners. A dark blue color would also be nice. A design like black iphone 5 but 6" and slightly less bezels is an ideal design imo
I think most who were worried about the curve screen are quite satisfied and even prefer the curve compared to flat screen.
they should raise the back a little bit.
extra space for a slightly bigger battery, and the camera will be better protected.

Again thats more for features, im exclusively talking about the visual and physical functionality.
In terms of physical design, curves and shape, I really like how Note 7 looks now. Probably only hope the back is not using glass, which is really ugly with all the smudges if you want to use it naked.
I really like the aesthetics of this phone, I cant imagine more beauty, I only dislike the back, smudge magnet
The exploding battery feature should be removed in the next release.

Yea true that, but it appears to be way better than the s7 glass. Doesnt stand out as much.
Anyone got any fan renders of phones they think are cool ?
This phone is the best designed phone that I have ever seen, certainly that I have ever had. Still, there are a couple areas that could be improved. I am not a fan of the curved edges. I have always wanted basically zero bezels, even though I use a slim case, the less bezel the better as the case ends up being a small bezel itself. I also think we could go with a 5.8 to 6" display and the phone would not be too big. I think this phone is a tad to tall - the top and bottom bezels could have been a mm or two shorter pretty easily I bet. And I don't like the speaker moving to the bottom nor do I like the headphone jack moving to the bottom. Also not a fan of the all glass back. So here is my wish list for the Note 8:
>> A non-curved display, or at least the option for either and edge or non-edge version.
>> Slightly shorter top and bottom bezels. The phone could be a few mm shorter IMO.
>> A slightly bigger display - 5.8 to 6" would be pretty easy to fit with the basically zero bezels on the sides
>> No glass on the back - go with a high quality leather-feel plastic back. Glass breaks, is heavy and also a finger print magnet
>> Headphone jack on the top. The bottom sucks for actually using a headphone jack.
>> Put the speaker back onto the back of the phone. The sound reflects better and I believe there is more area for the speaker to project out on the back.
I really like the curves of the phone far better than the sharper edges. Feels WAY better being curved, never did like the sharp edges. We can always find things that could use a little tweaking in any phone. The N7 is pretty darn good all things considered and IMO the best designed phone made right now.

Yea it is well designed. I was not sure how well they would do the curved screen and was worried about accidental touches and excessive curvature. But as soon as i got it in hand i was pleasantly surprised. I ohnestly can't decide which i prefer, curved or flat screen. I would lean more towards curved however because it is about the most effecient way to reduce bezels while at the same time make the phone feel smaller. The curves allow for the hand to reach over further and more ergonomically fit in the hand. Because the curves start at the screen, the rolloff starts earlier and reduces the bezel more as even in flat phones have some curves on the body so it doesn't feel so blocky. But flat screens start the rolloff later.

Since i had every note since the note 2, i felt that it began to be quite comfortable from the note 4 onwards. The note 3 and 2 were too bulky still. So if the screen size could be increased with a form factor no bigger than the note 4, i should think it could be quite nice. The top and bottom bezels could be smaller yea.

I really like the curves of the phone far better than the sharper edges. Feels WAY better being curved, never did like the sharp edges. We can always find things that could use a little tweaking in any phone. The N7 is pretty darn good all things considered and IMO the best designed phone made right now.

So you do like the curves but just not on thr screen ? Is this because you feel it impedes usuable screen space ?.
If they didnt use curves on the screen i do not believe they could accomplish as slim a bezel with the same comfort. For the same reasons as said above, starting the rolloff later would use up more bezel space for the same rolloff angle. They would have to use a sharper rolloff.
Beautiful design if you don't live it the real world, I would first get rid the edge. Gorilla glass 5 or not I dont feel like the edges are a good thing. I would give bith options like the s6 s7.
And then most important to me I would bring back interchangeable batteries.
2 different led strength would be nice, low like it currently has for camera and hight for flash light feature
Glass finger print sensor, or metal but definitely not plastic like now
Put the finger print sensor in the back like the nexus 6p
Bring back the options to customize favourite settings menu options
Enough with the bloat, it all overwhelming, Samsung print, together... I'd I need it I'll download it. Same goes for Facebook, one note, Amazon excel...
Front facing speakers.
Every options in settings or in native app should have a small check mark where you can find out what the setting does before u click it, my knowledge of the what's out there in the tech world and I had to google some options to know whats was up with them
Secure folder should be able to lock up sound files, any files for that matter
In an ideal world Better battery life would be nice
Device manager should let you disable auto kill for certain apps
Relocate the CALL button in the messaging app, personally keep pressing it after I text someone and grab the phone by the top right to slip it in my suit jacket.
Although I have some complaints I'm actually very happy with the Samsung seems to have started listening to the clients again, this shows allot in this phone

I really like the double curve/symmetry body Note 7 has right now. I only hope it don't get scratch easily so I could use the phone naked all my life. Smudges are fine, because it's glass. It looks premium and feels good.
Compare to what apple put on 6/6s, they're just plain ugly. Thin and large like a splatted orange.
All my friends who use iPhone 6/6s are impressed as soon as they get their hands on Note 7. Some of them are interested in changing, while some remain for the iOS.

You can't talk about the visual and physical shape without considering the building materials. Glass is slippery, so requires more 'clutch' on the phone which affects the handling of the phone. I think edges AND slippery backs are a bad combination. With the more intense clutching of the phone, your palms give ghost touches.
If the LG V10 was a 6" high end phone with stylus it would be a sure buy. Grippy, removable back, and stainless steel trim. Unfortunately it had the gimmicky second screen, onscreen buttons and LG software which seems bend on autodestructing itself, otherwise I would have bought one long ago.

That would rule out a lot of phones for those people. To some degree, devices today have a certain amount of curvature at the edges of the phone. For quite some time now 2.5D glass has been used on a great deal of manufacturered phones.
Next a lot of phones have some level of chamfered edges around the frame. And the back frames are usually but not always rounded to fit more comfortably in the hand.
Now i know your possibly talking exclusively about the screen being flat vs curved. However in my point of view if the screen was flat and the curves started after the screen then we would have a device similar to that of the s7, except for the obvious differences such as size, pen etc.
So question is, for people who are unhappy, is it with how the curvature impedes the screen (reasons i dont see why), or the curves themselves.

Yes i agree. I cant imagine accidental edge touches is possible though, the phones edge is inactive from outside in. Try scolling on webpages from the side, doesnt work. I think they have provided a good solution here.
I do understand regardless of whether the screen was curved or not, that the curves are more rounded than other devices or the s7 for that matter. So perhaps thats why its disliked by some compared to more flat like phones.
Would you agree that maybe the side frame in phones where it is held is what is differentiating between more or less curved framed phones?.
This has brought up some interesting ideas for me.
I remember the S3 as having 2,5D glass. It also had the yucky plastic back and was handling like a wet bar of soap. A totally different phone than the SII which I loved and still have today. The Note 2 was the same. The S4 did have a (plastic) rim, so the screen wouldn't be scratched when laying face down. But it still was slippery and they made a seperate edition later on with sorta the N3 backcover. That improved the handling a lot. The S-series has the advantage of being smaller and thus easier to hold. The Note 4 had the coated metal rim. N5 wasn't released here, so no first hand experience. I did handle the S6E+ and S7E in stores, but that couldn't convince me of its usefulness. I also don't like the sharper edges the sides have with edge-style phones. Also a result of phones getting thinner and thinner. I don't mind a 10mm thick phone. It can hold a big battery, recessed/better camera and has ample space for a stylus and removable battery.
IMO a phone should not only be good as a phone with software/functions, but also with real world usage like carrying it around and resistance to any kind of damage. Especially the latter seems to be forgotten by most companies.

Newzerol Full Coverage Screen Protectors (Tempered Glass)

What's up guys?
Just thought I'd share some screen protectors I recently purchased for the XA1 Ultra from Amazon which are the Newzerol Full Coverage Tempered Glass!
Firstly let me just say these are fantastic quality and you really get what you get for your money and I see other screen protectors for this model getting some bad reviews and these for me were the only ones that stood out and at the time held 4 x 4* reviews but they didn't hold much info so I took the risk myself.
Cleaning and application was straight forward and the screen sensitivity still feels the same to me, I felt with the original XA screen sensitivity decreases A LOT with tempered glass protectors and this was a slight concern when I got these but this isn't the case fortunately but the only sad thing is my device is white and these are black and have borders down the sides.
I really can't mock these though as I stated they are fantastic value and are covering the WHOLE of my screen which is a bonus, I really recommend getting these being a long term Sony user wanting to constantly protect my beautiful device.
Grab these whilst you can, seriously!
Nice. I'm thinking of picking one of these types of protectors myself because of the full coverage. I've got 2 clear tempered glass ones coming in the mail that I will use in the mean time.
I do wonder why these curved ones need to have black borders around them. Same with the ones for the S8, they would look a lot better if they resembled normal, clear tempered glass ones. Perhaps it has to do with the manufacturing process.

Thanks dude!
From what I see on Amazon for availability and reviews these were the best option (in my opinion) but as said the borders are a slight killer and the screen does smudge. I must note this is completely flat too, I can't say it's curved that's for sure but so far I think it's great. It was a problem with my Xperia X not having full coverage but it's still immaculate after a year and a half almost. Get back to me on the ones you've got as I'm very interested in that bud!
Just recently received 2 Purple Flexi Gel case's from Amazon too, 1 by L&K which is slightly transparent and the other from J&D Tech which is almost a solid colour and they both fit very well. The L&K case covers the volume controls and the power button whereas the J&D one doesn't, so there's a slight difference on feel. I'd definitely recommend Nillkin Frosted case's too as I've got those for the Xperia X and XA and they're fantastic but do not cover the top and bottom of the device but I am considering one for the XA1 Ultra as they're available online right now ?

The Nillkin frosted shield in Black is actually the first case I got for my xa1 ultra. I've owned these Nillkin style hard cases for other xperia devices in the past and they are great. High Quality, very lightweight, minimal bulk, and the texture is hard to beat as far has hard shell cases go, feels great to the touch and the back material resists scuffs (plus, they always come with a free screen protector which is always nice). And yes, like you said, my only real gripe about it is it doesn't fully cover the top and bottom. Also, the case has started to wear a bit on all the corners - but it's very minor. I'll post photos if I get chance one of these days. I ordered it through Amazon Canada from a third party seller for around $13, but since it came directly from Amazons warehouse shipping was 2 days... otherwise, I would have ordered from Aliexpress where they are half the price, but I couldn't wait 6 weeks or more to get it.
I've got more cases coming from Aliexpress, including a TPU case by X-level. Aliexpress tends to have a tone of selection and most are very inexpensive, but you just have to be patient for it to arrive. Finding Xperia cases in Canada/the US is a little tougher in general, even on Amazon and retailers like BestBuy. Xperia phones just aren't popular here . In the U.K. / Europe, Sony seems to be infinitely more popular.

Wow that's a surprise hehehe, glad to hear your voice on the Nillkin cases and nice to see someone thinks the same as me but I managed to bag a discount code from Nillkin for 20% off so I'll definitely be using that this coming pay day tehehehe.
As for AliExpress, I can't say I've ever used it or thought to use it myself so firstly I'd like to thank you for mentioning that site but after reading this I had a nice little browse on there and boy can you find some great deals but I see what you mean about the shipping, jesus dude!
Fortunately, I managed to find some tempered glass lens protectors stating that they're pretty much all for the X range and selected my model and apparently they're going to take upto 30 days here in the UK for me which yes is quite long but we'll see if they turn up and do the job.
Any pics yet my man?

Yeah with Aliexpress it's hit or miss, sometimes the items arrive in the first half of the shipping estimate, other times, at the latter end or even beyond that . That being said, there are some steals and unique finds as far as cases go, you just have to do a little research and digging with what little information the sellers often provide. I find the photos and star ratings posted by users the most helpful.
I will order a full-coverage screen protector like yours if I end up hating the clear tempered ones I ordered (still waiting on them in the mail from Aliexpress, I got 2 x for around $2.50 USD). And I'll post pics after my items arrive. If I can live with the limited coverage, I'll end up leaving it on. If it bothers me too much, I'll may end up ordering a full-coverage one like yours, although I'm not completely sold on the two tone look as it won't blend as well as the clear ones when the screen is off, and as much as I like the Sony logo, the cutout isn't the prettiest thing, as I might have preferred to have it covered up entirely (even if my XA1 Ultra is black). Hard to win in either case.
The small detail of curving displays nowadays really does complicate everything! Lol.
So far I'm actually still using the out of the box screen protector, the sides being unprotected. Is a bit annoying but it's better then nothing. Does this phone have no otterbox style cases yet?

To be honest, good luck finding cases for the XA1 Ultra from the big-name case manufacturers (speck, otterbox, etc), at least for time being. I can't even find skins for this, as it's just not a popular device in the North American market for it to be worth it to manufacturer accessories for this. Which is why I have resorted to shopping online and overseas for cases for my Xperia devices in years past.
Amazon is always a good starting point but your options will be limited. As we've been discussing on this thread, Aliexpress has vast selection but shipping times are in the weeks and possibly months.

If you're referring to Aliexpress, I would recommend looking for cases that are branded, like Nillkin ; which is a well known Chinese case manufacturer. Usually these will come in retail packaging, which the sellers will advertise. User reviews/photos will also help. These will usually come in at a visibly higher price than other cases (usually more than $6 USD), but it is often an indicator of quality. Anything silicone, hard-shell, or TPU is relatively a safe bet, but if you're looking for something like a metal/aluminum shell, be weary and read reviews first... the quality of these is much harder to discern. And lastly, it will be impossible to estimate shipping times (shipping is almost always free and untracked). I live in Canada and it usually takes a month or more, so if you need something now, look elsewhere.
Also interesting to note, a lot of third party sellers on Amazon are actually just selling cases they have purchased in bulk from Aliexpress (other times, they are selling from China directly). So if it's not from a manufacturer you recognize (like Speck, Incipio, Belkin, etc.) it's likely a generic one that they've marked up in price or they'll charge you for shipping. Nothing wrong with either one, just know that the quality is going to be similar.
If you have further questions please let me know

Been living with one of the cheap, non-full coverage tempered glass protectors for about a week. Not satisfied at all, as it still doesn't stick to the sides well even being not-full-coverage, leaving an unsightly bubble effect at the edges (top and bottom were fine).
However, for the price I paid ($1.91 USD for 2 of them ), plus I received a refund from Aliexpress for $1 USD for my satisfaction. Sure, I technically lost a dollar on these, but I get to keep both of them, the spare of which I can keep as a backup.
I immediately ordered a full-coverage one (black bars at top and bottom) for under $5 USD, which I hope to arrive in the next week weeks.

Oh man that's not good to hear! I have had a slightly bad experience with these Newzerol ones I posted. The first one once applied properly after time it seemed to come loose within the middle, there was a strange rainbow looking bubble and dirt gets under the sides quite noticeably at the top left and right. The first one lasted a week or so until it come loose all of a sudden and since then I've had the 2nd one installed and I've had the same bubble in the middle, dirt getting under the sides of the protector and I accidentally dropped my phone rear facing flat with a case on and dislodged the protector. So I am now looking to buy something different maybe and look forward to your next result and best of luck ??

I believe the reasoning behind the black/white bars around the full-coverage protectors are because the adhesive is only applied to those areas, hence, why you protector might have shifted around and why dirt can get underneath. I’ve heard some of these also have touch responsive issues as a result of air getting between the display.
Been using the full-coverage tempered glass for a little bit... my thoughts:
+ Installation is actually a bit easier than the clear glass ones because of the bars at the top and the bottom, you have less of an area to worry about getting dust or fingerprints underneath when installing. However, the screen protector comes right up to the side edges, which is something you need to be very careful about. If you're off by even a hair (I got mine pretty good, but definitely not perfectly aligned) you will notice it, and you may have problems with tight fitting cases, bring me to my next point...
- the screen protector has side bezels as well. They are very thin, but these areas are where the adhesive is to my knowledge. Because of this, you will get some light shining through on the sides outside of the protector, which you will see in low light or at night. This is a little bit bothersome, but it's not visible when looking at the phone straight-on. From the sides, at a steep angle you can definitely see the light shining through (a case with a 'lip' definitely helps covering that up a bit). So once again, make sure you get the sides aligned evenly, or else you'll get more light shining through one side than the other.
- Because there are side bezels, this DOES cover up a slight portion of your screen. You won't notice this when looking at it, I only noticed this when some parts of text were ever so slightly cut-off on a website that didn't have proper side padding. I would say it cuts off a 1-1.5 millimetres on each side.
- The screen protector definitely increases reflectivity (see photo) and lessens screen contrast ever so slightly. This is something you will immediately notice primarily when the screen is off, as you'll get an almost mirror-like finish on the screen portion. This is emphasized even more so because the bezels are solidly coloured. Aesthetically, it's not the prettiest thing, but I think it's well worth it for the other benefits. This is because the display itself isn't really adhered to the protector, and is set back a little, also lessening viewing angles slightly. There is also a slight dot pattern on the screen portion that can see if you look at it up close, but it's almost impossible to spot unless you're actually looking for it. I was concerned with this at first when I bought it based on the seller's photos, but it's much less noticeable in person.
+ No problems with touch responsiveness.
+ No problems with proximity sensor.
- Cutout for the Sony logo is hideous. Would've preferred it blacked-out completely.
Even with all the negative points, I still highly recommend these, as this is leaps and bounds over the previous protector I had. The coverage you get is vastly superior to the clear-type tempered glass ones that don't provide full coverage. When your screen is off it's not the prettiest and definitely emphasizes the bezels way more, but it's better viewing and user-experience overall when actually using the device.

Thank you for your very detailed review and I will definitely consider getting one of those myself as just recently got the XMT Full Coverage Protectors and they were absolute trash I highly recommend to not buy them I have issued a refund as the adhesive was useless.
I will be getting one of these as recently due to that poor protection I've been using mine without a protector and must say as sketchy as it is it feels really good as I've always used protectors lol.
Update on the tempered glass.
So yeah, small dust particles definitely make there way under the edges of the screen portion over time. Reason being is the ‘dot matrix’ , as these are essentially flat pieces of glass stuck to an edge that is curved, and there is no adhesive under the screen portion, only on the top and bottom bezels. A minor annoyance, but it is something I can live with. Not necessarily a hit on the product, as this is a unanimous problem across many devices as phone manufacturers move toward curved displays. Making screen protectors that thin whilst being curved not realistic.
9to5google explains some of the downsides of these protectors including the reflective rainbow effect in sunlight. https://9to5google.com/2017/11/16/power-support-pixel-2-xl-google-store-in-stock/

Just brought these for Nokia 5 & Nokia 3. The one for the Nokia 3 has a WHITE border, this is for the copper finish phone I bought, so probably do white for other phones.

Collection: Tempered glass screen protectors reviews

Hope to make this thread as a collection of reviews and Q&A for various screen protectors. Noticed several reviews for some before the device was even released. Hopefully this thread helps others and a way for you to share your experiences.
OMOTON 4-pack
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NXZP7PG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Pros:
Covers the whole display (left to right)
No halo or rainbow effect
Leaves enough gap for a case
CHEAP (includes 4)
Cons:
Peeling the dust remove sticker was a pain.
Doesn't cover class between camera and earpiece
Other thoughts:
the glass is quite thin. Less than .33mm which is the norm. Probably will make it not so durable when drops and possibly easier to crack. But nice as it doesnt feel sharp or large on the display
This glass is a precise fit, so be careful on installation. Good thing if you mess up, there are additional ones. .5mm left/right or up/down probably will cause a halo affect for that edge

Thanks for getting this started, tlxxxsracer! I'm going to mimic your format to the best of my ability. I'm going to include a Comments line as I don't have images or videos to link to.
Yocktec Screen Protector
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QTZ9XPP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Comments: I gave this a 3 star rating. It's acceptable as a "until I get a better one" protector but not one I'd consider for long term.
Pro's:
Feels like decent quality glass for the price (strength, clarity, etc.)
Simple installation
Well gapped for a case
Con's:
Bad edge lifting/poor contact
Not particularly cheap given it's just one in the box
Somewhat difficult to line up given how the glass it cut for the front camera/speaker.
UniqueMe Screen Protector (3 Pack)
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QKCFS9N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Comments: I opened this and immediately filed for a return. I laid one of the 3 pack onto my screen and it was too large to work with most cases, and part of the edge was going to go over the slight curve on the edge of the glass. Not worth even trying.
Pro's:
N/A, didn't even try
Con's:
Too large, will almost certainly lift off at the edges
L K Screen Protector (3 Pack)
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NM4MRFQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Comments: What's currently on my phone. First to install had two large air bubbles because I just kind of threw it on there as I'm used to doing with most tempered glass protectors, second I went slower and it's good. There is some slight lifting on the edge in a couple of spots, and small air bubbles in the regions that the protector covers but aren't part of the actual visible screen. I'm going to stick with this until some of the bigger name brands start releasing stuff, namely second versions as the first go is rarely great, and keep the third of the pack as a backup.
Pro's:
Cheap
Quality is good. Feels strong, clarity is nice, etc.
Good coverage of screen while still allowing enough of a gap for cases to fit.
Con's:
Installation isn't as easy as I'm used to. I don't think it's a "designed to be installed how we show" you kind of thing, just a bit finicky. (Note: Not actually difficult, just go slow and follow the video they link you to in the box)
Related to above, I feel like their instructions will inevitably waste at least one protector for most users as there will be dust and/or air bubbles collected this way. You're not likely going to get it perfect on your first go. (Note: Which is why a lot of people will read this and think, "well that's why they include 3, dummy" which is a fair point, but I wanted to bring it up)
Very slight edge lift
Glass it cut so between camera and speaker there is a large exposed area (Note: doesn't bother me personally, but I know some people don't like that)
Supershieldz 3 Pack
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q1KCT3M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Comments: Didn't install. Looks very similar to the L K tempered glass in size, but based on Caebron's comments below I figure it's not removing the L K I have on to try.
Space held for Supershieldz commentary
I've got a 3 Pack of these coming in the mail tomorrow. I know a lot of people like Supershieldz but I haven't liked a single one I've gotten. I got them mostly to see if I just got bad ones in the past or if everyone's just crazy. Unlikely to install it given that the L K's nice, but I'll comment on them.

Hope to make this thread as a collection of reviews and Q&A for various screen protectors. Noticed several reviews for some before the device was even released. Hopefully this thread helps others and a way for you to share your experiences.
OMOTON 4-pack
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NXZP7PG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Pros:
Covers the whole display (left to right)
No halo or rainbow effect
Leaves enough gap for a case
CHEAP (includes 4)
Cons:
Peeling the dust remove sticker was a pain.
Doesn't cover class between camera and earpiece
Other thoughts:

I also recommend the Omoton 4 pack here:

Never bought this brand before but it worked perfectly on the first one. The 3a XL's display seems to be much flatter than the 2xl and 3xl which were a nightmare with putting on glass screen protectors. So happy to not have one with a black border around it again!! :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::good::good:

I just installed these and will be returning them to Amazon for a refund. The pack includes two shield, and while I was able to work out any trapped airbubbles by pushing them towards the edge of the screen, and any remaining small bubbles disappeared over night, they always leave an airbubble at one or more of the edges. It looks as if you could slide a fingernail underneath - which you can't so it's just this long elongated airbubble that makes it look as if it isn't sticking at the edge of the screen.
Ordered myself a Zagg this time - I will report back on how it works.
I also used the Omotion 4 pack,,,it covers about the same as most and fingerprints are not as noticeable as they are on some others.
3 pack I picked up. super smooth bonded pretty well. Thick so should be decent protection. though it barely covers left and right of actual screen area. not sure how much wider it could go because of the curved edges of display.

I got the LK as an interim. They are certainly not bad, but I'd like something with a more complete coverage and also less sharp and thick edges. For my OnePlus 6 I had protectors from ******* that were decent...but not perfect either. I hope we'll get good one for the Pixel soon...
Also bought a Zagg. The guy at Best buy installed incorrectly. I ordered a replacement since it has a lifetime warranty. Will report back once I get the replacement installed properly.
Super surprised how well they installed, yes they have the black lining all around, full adhesive. No issues installing. Perfect alignment without a tray ( no screen leak on either sides). Good price and no loss of screen sensitivity.
Definitely recommended
Case friendly too
TekRoot 4 pack from ebay
Pros: perfect cut, resist smudges well, easy to apply, full glue, work well with a case, dirt cheap.
Cons; Halo around the border due to glue, maybe not enough of it, or bad quality.. other than that, for $2.25 a piece in package of 4 with shipping included, I can live with the borders not completely adhering to the screen.
I was happy with the CASEVASN screen protectors. Not sure why it's reviewed so poorly.

I don't like the notch on the OMOTON and prefer the cutouts. It has basically zero room for error, but I eventually got it lined up perfectly with the sticky tab hinges, and it has plenty of space on the sides for a case. No bubbles or distortion.
Got my replacement Zagg, the screen feels really nice and there are NO fingerprints at all. But there's no room for error on the install and the thing that's meant to help line it up sucks, way too easy for the protector to get underneath it. Because of the huge gaps on the sides, it's almost impossible to install properly. I'd stick with a full adhesive black boarder protector, definitely not worth $40.
Edit: after just a few minutes of use, the phone is covered with fingerprints. Again, would not recommend.

Looks like a ton of fake reviews on Amazon, doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. Have any pictures of it installed? I don't understand how it could have black boarder and be case friendly. I'm looking for something not case friendly, doesn't seem to be many options

Am with you on that, I just purchase and test, I don't trust most Amazon reviews cause like you mentioned plenty of fakeness, but yes it has the black borders and case friendly, once am home I will upload pics. My biggest surprise is the no screen leak on the sides, **** they did a good job with the size..
Just received my omoton 4 pack. It doesn't cover the whole screen as the OP reviewed. Must be a new batch as it was backordered for a few days.
Here are the pictures of the screen protector installed
Black border
Full adhesive
Perfect alignment
No screen leak on the sides

Just ordered, looks great. Thanks for sharing!
Update: just received. Much easier to install than the Zagg due to the edges getting much closer to the edges of the phone. The cutouts are so precise you can line the whole thing up based on them. It might cut off a few pixels on the sides, but overall I'm very impressed. Fingerprint resistance seems to be MUCH better than the Zagg. Don't waste $40, buy this!
Update 2: have noticed this screen protector actually hurts screen quality pretty noticeably. Not sure why, but in some apps (especially apps with lots of white), it's VERY annoying
I also recommend the pulen. fit is perfect and I don't notice any issues with transparency or responsiveness.
I picked a 3-pack of LK, non-bordered, up. Took a little more time than I usually do lining everything up with the included guide stickers. Most other phones the cutouts are precise enough for me to eyeball, but since this one just has a huge cutout at the top for the camera all the way to the speaker, not so easy to do. Went on perfectly and so far haven't had any issues with the edges of the glass, and I don't have any blue discoloring at the edge. Protector is *just* the right size for the screen, so thinking the extra time taken to line things up served me well.
Can't take pictures because the only other device I have at the moment is a Huawei Mediapad M5 running PHH-treble and the camera doesn't work on it for whatever reason.
