5GHZ WiFi Band - OnePlus Nord N10 5G Questions & Answers

Why my 5ghz wifi band doesn't show up on my OnePlus N10 although it does on my old Samsung A70?

It shows all 5Ghz networks to me. Make sure your Wi-Fi network visibility is not hidden. The old Samsung might already have been connected.

[Q] wifi band configuration

I was quite surprised to see there is no configuration to choose 2.4ghz or 5ghz, on top of this I cant find a way to view the current band in use. Why make a dual band phone where 5ghz is effectively disabled?
I then read that the option used to exist in 4.0 but was removed in 4.1 and someone made this app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891970
Now this app works, I can now use 5ghz which more than doubles my wireless speed, great right?
Well its ok but it resets to 2.4ghz everytime wifi is turned on again, so the setting doesnt stick. So basically everytime I use wifi I have to open the app and select 5ghz. Even the app itself doesnt report what band is in use, it just allows you to select the band to use.
Is there a way to (a) easily see what band is in use and (b) set 5ghz as the default.
Thread moved to porper forum.
I have tried giving 5ghz its own wireless ssid so seperate from 2.4ghz but then its much slower. It seems when the ssid is shared, it uses some kind of parallel mode where both can be used at the same time.
So what I want is when 2.4ghz and 5ghz share the same ssid and the phone connects to 5ghz. (preferably via an option on the phone).

5Ghz Wifi - is it working for anyone ?

Hi,
I have been using the C5 Ultra Duel E5533 for the last couple of days and run into this issue:
Although I have read that this device supports the 5Ghz WiFi Band (Sony official Whitepaper) I am not able to discover the 5Ghz WiFi network I have set at home.
This is even more bizarre , as on the first time I setup the WiFi network the 5Ghz network was visible in the network discovery list - I could even connect to this 5Ghz network. Suddenly, after connecting to another 2.4Ghz WiFi network, the 5Ghz one just disappeared and I can never see it again in my networks list ?!
Tried resetting the WiFi router but still I cannot see/discover the 5Ghz network.
I am running the original E5533 firmware as my region didn't yet receive the latest update.
It does support 5ghz. Can it detect any other 5ghz routers? Like your neighbour's? Or if u have other devices that can work on 5ghz. It could be the channels that your router is using that's causing the problem.
Did factory reset - it's OK now

How do I make WiFi Direct use 5Ghz?

I'm part of an FTC robotics team, and our control system uses WiFi Direct with 2 phones to communicate between the robot's phone and the driver station phone. We often have issues with the connection dropping out during matches at the big competitions, do to a ton of other teams all using WiFi Direct at the same time and crowding up the 2.4 GHz band. (At the bigger events, there are over 1,000 devices using 2.4Ghz!!!) Is there any way to force WIFI Direct to use the 5 Ghz band on the Galaxy S5 (or Nexus 5)?

A year late, but here is the answer for other people.
Androids WiFi Direct will work in 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz, but for new groups, it apparently defaults to 2.4Ghz, unless you are already connected to a 5Ghz AP.
So repeat for both phones:
Stop the FTC apps (Press the Multi-Task button and then hit the X on the FTC apps)
Settings - WiFi -> Advanced -> WiFi Direct
Press and hold on all the Wifi Direct Connections and Groups on both phones. Tell them to Disconnect and/or Forget.
Now use the WiFi settings to connect both phones to a 5Ghz Access Point.
Redo the WiFi Direct pairing process (The FTC 4 app will seek out its similarly named *-RC automatically if you start both apps).

OMG! YOU DID IT! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I just stumbled onto this answer, and I've been searching FOR. EVER. On how to make PDANet - which now uses wifi direct - connect to other phones, my FireTV and my Chromecast, at 5Ghz. This did the trick!

My pdanet by default use 5ghz wifi direct. I trying to force it to use 2.4ghz because my other device does not support 5ghz. This method work by connecting to 2.4ghz wifi first and directly activate pdanet wifi direct. But it will use 5ghz again after turn it off. Is there any permanent way to use a specific band?

S9 Plus SM-G965F not detecting 5Ghz Wifi

Hi fellow xda members. I recently purchased the Samsung S9 Plus SM-G965F variant and in Wifi it cannot see the 5Ghz network that i have created. It will only detect the 2.4Ghz networks. I have installed the wifi-analyzer app as well but that also doesnt see it whereas my iphone can see it and connect to the 5ghz network without any issues. Ive been googling and searching this forum but couldnt find anyone having the same problem as me. I am not that experienced in android so dont know what could be the solution. Here are a few more details that might help
Baseband version: G965FXXU2BRG8
Build Number: R16NW.G965FXXU2BRGA
never mind....problem was with the router not broadcasting ssid on a greater channel range. Fixed it. Thread can be closed

I'm also havingthe same issue.it's definitely not a problem with the router..my every device can detect 5ghz wifi while s9 plus can't. ? ..
What to plz help..
Go to your wifi router settings and change the 5Ghz channel. Set it to one that is not too crowded (use the wifi analyser app) and that all your devices can connect. In my case the channel 157 solved my problem. I live in Canada and channel regulations can be different depending on each country laws.
Solved It

Wifi notification

I have an issue with wifi notification, not sure if it's hardware or software (that's how EMUI is).
my previous phone always notify me of available wifi networks when I am not connected to one, my HM20P doesn't do that. I literally have to go into Settings - Wireless & Networks - Wifi ...... to see which wifi network is available to log in.
Also, when I press on Wifi in the Notification area, it just toggled Wifi On or Off, doesn't open up Wifi Settings......is that normal?
International model, bought in canada.
