Question Phone is not detected by the laptop - Sony Xperia 1 III

Hi,
I just bought a new laptop with USB-C port, and when I plug in my Xperia 1 III, it only charges the phone, and won't detect it as a storage device.
I'm using USB-C cable that I got inside original box.
Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?
Phone doesn't offer me to choose transfer mode, when I plug it to a laptop's USB-C port.

Go to Disk Management and scan for new devices. Access directly from there.
Is the driver for that phone installed, check Hardware Management>USB hubs etc try to update driver or roll back if that fails.
If it doesn't show, use known good cable and inspect phone C port for damage or contamination. Can the phone see other OTG devices?
Try another port on the PC.
Reboot PC.
Play with USB options in phone Developer options. If already on, try turning Developer options off.
Check Event Viewer in Windows for error messages after attempting to connect.
Play with it... you'll find to issue eventually.

I tried everything, and also change USB connectivity in Developers options to File transfer.
Is original cable that comes in a box able for data transfer, or only for charging the device?

I found this in specifications of my laptop, does this means that my USB-C port is unable to recognize my phone?

I doubt that's it. The protocols are generally backward compatible.

Have you got a USB-2 hub lying around? Try going thru that and see if it works.

Hi guys,
I just bought a new data cable (USB-A to USB-C), and it works perfectly.
Thank you for all information you provided

No Solution For HTC EVO 3D USB computer connection problem ?

I have a HTC EVO 3D with a very odd problem i dont know what i can do i look to all website in the internet and i didint find any solution yet . the phone It will not connect to my computer (recognized by the computer). The phone will charge when plugged into the USB; although, the computer cannot recognize the phone. I have already exhausted the idea of the cable being the problem.
Has anyone ever seen this issue plssss?
Make sure usb debugging is selected, and you can also download Wifi file explorer which allows you to see your phone contents through ip address (Wifi required)
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
Have you installed the drivers for the phone?
If you have, download adb and run adb devices and see if it shows up there.
I had same problem with my "ex" SE Xperia x10.
It is problem with cristal connector which comes right after USB connector on motherboard..You probably teared it out while pulling out micro usb cable..So, only solution is to fix that with hair wire..I payed about 15$ for that, and it works like charm..
Cheers
I have had this same exact problem for almost 3 months. I have tried everything with no success. The only USB connection I DO have is in fastboot, but not in recovery or in the OS.
I would help any 'new' suggestions also.

Either you need to install drivers manually or enable USB mass storage in settings. It seems odd that USB works in fast boot but not anywhere else. If in windows try going to device manager when connected and see what shows up.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Okay so now whenever I try and connect my Evo to my computer I no longer get a notification on the top of the phone giving me options i change the usb cable and i try go to (Charge, Tether, Disk Drive, etc.). Debugging is not on and I have uninstalled WinAmp and PdaNet which I thought were potential causes of the problem. I also have the phone set to mount as a drive when connected via USB and I also checked the box telling it to ask me any time is gets connected.
what more i can do ? i try it in other computer and laptops non no works
+ i want to root my phone and i cant cuz off this problem

Can't factory reset Xiaomi Redmi 4', locked bootloader, deep flash cable not working

I received my new Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime running MIUI Global 8.2.1.0, I tested out the new fingerprint feature, but had to set up a PIN first. I tried to tie it with my Mi account but went to reset the password and never got the email. I restarted my phone, and it asks for the PIN, apparently, it's not the one I use on my other phone. It now takes me two hours before I can try again. My Google account is set up, I can install apps through the Play store, but it doesn't show up on Android Device Manager so I can't reformat it. Xiaomi has the bootloader locked. I can't enable USB debugging because I can't get into the phone. Whenever I install MiFlash or plug the phone in it doesn't ask me about drivers. I then made a deep flash cable.
It doesn't matter what I do, go into fastboot, then plug in the cable and restart while shorting the cables. Entering fastboot while shorting the cables. Nothing shows up in the COM ports. When I fully turn it on and it goes into the OS, it appears under portable devices. If I plug it in while its off and shorting cables, the mi logo pops up and it shows a battery. My understanding is that it should be shorting and the computer will not recognize it as a device to charge (which it is now). The cable is 10 feet long and attached to a USB 2.0 port on the motherboard, not the case. I used a multimeter and the black cable is indeed the ground and green D+. When it's plugged in normally it just shows up under portable devices and not under COM ports.
The best write up I've seen is this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5s/how-to/guide-flash-xiaomi-mi-5s-chinese-rom-to-t3530834
This has been leaving me scratching my head a bit. Because there is nothing wrong with the phone, and I can't enable USB debugging, is that why I can't get it going to the COM port like in this guide? http://xiaomitips.com/guide/how-to-manually-install-qualcomm-qdloader/

USB Mass Storage support missing

I'd love to find a way to add a USB Mass Storage option when connecting the Lenovo TB-8703F to PC, to make the MicroSD accessible like a USB stick or hard drive. Has anyone successfully done it? Using MTP is far from ideal for my purposes.
You mean like this? If yes, I did nothing. I don't even have the drivers installed, only what windows installs on it's own.

That is MTP. The drive cannot be seen by apps that require writing to a 'drive letter' with MTP. And copying and reading files is worse since it has to cache the file being read first. And I've had heaps of instances where the latest files wouldn't be visible with MTP unless the Android device was rebooted first. MTP is a total pain (for the way I work). Only advantage to me is making some of the internal storage accessible but I save everything important to MicroSD.
I can't see why USB Mass Storage is omitted since all the budget Lenovo tablets I have had experience with have it. They cost half what this tablet does. And I can even connect 2 tablets together and share files with nothing more complex than a $1 USB OTG cable from ebay connected to a Micro USB cable when in USB Mass Storage mode. All without a spyware brain-damaging wifi sharing app. I can do so much with USB Mass Storage.
Also MTP doesn't play well with older OSs without drivers. Less of an issue now than it once was but still not fun when you need it.
I have tried UMS Enabler https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-universal-mass-storage-enabler-beta-t3240097 in my desperation but didn't have much luck.

Usb debugging is under the developer settings. And this menu is greyed out when you open it while the device isn't connected to a pc. Your cable may be faulty, or it could be the drivers in your PC.
Hope that helped

Not the cable, it's tested with various cable and the regular original cable is near brand new and work well, I have had the motorola mobile drivers removed, repair, reinstalled a few times, the issue is something else and that's why I ask before pulling my hair off ...
@spikemcc
You have to enable "USB tethering" too.

Checked a little furter, seem a drivers issue or similar, I have the motorola drivers but maybe the device act like another, either pixel drivers or universal drivers might help ...
I seem motorola adb interface but an usb mtp device is still shown, probably the moto e6.

I've tried different cables and machine - still same.
Then take it to service, maybe your port is damage. How react when you charge your battery? Disconnect too? If not, then is problem in windows
charging is fine, it could be a windows problem (tried with windows 10 and 11), but could be a firmware problem. i have sent feedback, hoping they can help me.
thanks
Same here. At first it detects the phone but then it just disappears. Can only use it with Photo Mode and you cant really transfer files like that. Hope they fix it soon
Hallo,
Sie müssen die Entwickleroption aktivieren und das USB-Debugging aktivieren. Dann funktioniert es....
Hello,
You need to turn on developer option and turn on usb debugging. Then it works....
Thanks for your reply - but this did not work for me.
Your problem is more like a faulty usb port/flex cable or motherboard.
The fact that it charges does not mean the port is good since they are different connectors.
- On my working laptop (Dell) with win10 22H2 i can hear only plugin sound but cannot see phone as a storage device
- On HP laptop with win10 21H2 the connection works fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Use driver inside the official Xiaomi Unlock package: Unlock (drivers)
I also encountered the situation described by the author. I think it is "Docking station" problem. Because as long as I don't use "Docking station" and directly put k50 from Ulta There will be no problem. But this is very annoying, because my other mobile phone can be connected to the "Docking station"
Your USB doesn't understand that it can't output 120w charging current. The phone asks for more, then USB overload protection kicks in. And it repeats itself endlessly.
I dont think its really the current load

0.44 Amp, its not the 20v 6A of the usb charger, wich make sense its the rate of normal usb
You probably have to much stuff on your usb or really bad usb port better pug it directly on a usb port and not on a hub to be sure
I had those sort of disconnect probleme on old pc with usb hard disk wich was due to too much load on the same usb and pretty bad usb
