[Guide] How to fix "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device" and "EDL Authorization failed" - Xiaomi Redmi 8A Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi there,
A few days ago I tried to install global firmware for my Redmi 8A through the official Mi Flash with the "Clean all and lock" option. Then after that I couldn't boot up the phone and it showed the error "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device". At that time I couldn't do anything because the bootloader was locked and it asked me to add my Xiaomi account in the settings of the device to unlock the bootloader. I found some videos on Youtube about "Flash via EDL mode" then I found that "EDL" point by openning phone's back cover and successfully entered EDL Mode but another error appeared that was "EDL Authorization failed". A lot of guys claimed to have an authorized account that could bypass it for $30 but most of them were scams. Finally I found "Unlock Tool" and saved my phone.
It is a tool of Vietnamese and you have to by a licensed account. They have a lot of distributors including foreigners. You can ask them to buy an account with the right to use the tool within 3 hours for about $8.79 like I did. You can find it at MOD EDIT: Link Removed
I don't intend to advertise anything even though I'm also Vietnamese. I just want to help people save their phones if they are in the same situation as me. I'm willing to help if you have any trouble while doing it.
Hope my article is useful and hope you understand if my English is bad.

What are the easiest Android phones used to unlock the bootloader?

I have a Huawei Ascend Y300-0151 and it’s quite impossible for me to unlock the bootloader on this phone because I have to request a bootloader unlock code from the official website and the only way to do that is to request it from the Chinese variant. Even though I fill out a form on their website, it still comes up with errors that I have not filled out the form correctly when every part IS in fact, filled out correctly.
I’ve e-mailed them about the error but I don’t expect a reply back, this has led me to believe I won’t ever get my Huawei Ascend Y300’s bootloader unlocked. I have, in fact, rooted the phone already, but my goal is to flash a custom ROM onto the phone but I need the bootloader unlocked for that.
My question is, what’s the easiest phone to unlock the bootloader with, because it sure isn’t the Huawei type Android phones. I’m looking into getting another phone to unlock the bootloader with, so which is yours guys favourites?
Nexus or OnePlus devices are the easiest.
You already have a thread for this here:

I had that one, too. You need to set your nickname for MIUI forum. Just log in to your account on the forum (http://en.miui.com/forum.php). You will be asked to choose the name. After you do so. Try to ask for unlock again. It should work now.
Actually i was logging in using my old account created before i purchased my device (created using email address) and account crated in my device was using my mobile no. Due to which i was unable to apply but now successfully applied using device account. Thank you for help
I get the same thing. with redirect to chinese page. since i'm using chrome browser, so i use chrome translate feature, so I the two different messages were translated. it keeps switching between the two pages, but managed to see the translated messages. They're currently upgrading system thus request of application is being put on hold/blocked.

haha. found out solution. you need to login with your account to MIUI forum app (search in Play Store) and login with your newly created account, you will need to create a nickname. Please ensure you get to a page in the forum app that says you've earned 4 experiences for your first login. then try again applying for unlocking permission.

I saw this thread was brought back from the dead, and I just saw this post. Are you serious???
I thought it was 1 unlock for 1 device per month... and even that's pushing it. It's hard enough to get an unlock as it is and they just went and made it 5 times harder with this nonsense. The Note 4 may be my first and last Xiaomi phone...

Apply for unlock
So i saw a lot of videos of people applying to unlock the bootloarder of thier Xiaomi phones by going to the unlock page click the blue unlock button and then they get redirected to put their account with phone number so they can receive one SMS from xiaomi when the unlock approval is done, i have a Xiaomi Redmi 5 plus from Mexico and when i try to go to this so called page to put my phone number and apply for unlocking i always go redirected to download the Mi Unlock Tool first.... i cant find any page now to put my number and wait for Xiaomi to send me that so called SMS.
My question is if i download the Unlock Tool and connect the phone in fastboot to try to unlock it just as the web page is telling me right now, am i going to have the phone plugged in until the process of unlocking finishes, the whole 15 days? (I know it sounds stupid but i am new to this)

First, applied for bootloader unlock successfully?
OK, now wait for their approval, ok.
Approved?
Then, DL MI_Unlock tool, try to unlock your device by signing in your mi account, you might get error or some hours of time to unlock your device, that means, you've to wait until few days to unlock, until then you just enjoy MIUI ??

Problem with “Mi Unlock Status”

Hello guys,
as the title says, I want to unlock my Redmi 5 Plus and load LineageOS, but I'm stuck.
I was approved and this morning I received the text message confirmation that says "Permissions have been granted ...", but when I go to "Mi Unlock Status" and touch "Add account and device" i receive this error code: 86006.
These are my iphone info
upload pictures
I tried with 5 different VPNs, and restarted many times but nothing worked.
I read around that probably i have to wait 72 hours in order to unlock my device, is this correct?
Anyway any kind of help is really appreciated.
Thanks

86006 is not connection issue, its a server issue...
VPN issue is error 10008
try to flash developer rom, if the problem persist then welcome to the dead-end.
We're users from Indonesia, we've tried every possible method including tearing phone, short the circuit, test-point, etc...
It all end with either 86023 or 86006 error. We've got reply from official xiaomi Indonesia that stated the bootloader can't be unlocked anymore on official phone. It's weird because we're not bound to any specific carrier.
The only real solution is just to sell official phone and buy illegal unofficial phone from third-party reseller.
hopefully people at other countries still can unlock their phone

its simple, just download the file from xiaomi site, simply pick the recovery rom and put it on your phone
then from updater app, choose the option on top-right and select that file... it should be done in 10 minutes.

The 7 pro and 6 are the ONLY phones I have had the experience of saying they do NOT need to be rooted..
It will record phone calls. It will come straight out the box with the least amount of bloat I ever seen. Also once Its bootunlocked I hear that some things will stop working like google pay. Its also a gamble to root cause its very new. I havent found a reason to root it.. The phone is a beast and really is super clean in and out.. I surely hope I can figure out WHY is not getting 4g and 5G on ATT
Can someone confirm if I unlock the bootloader (only to install TWRP for emergencies) will I lose OTA updates?
Because that's what I understand from the warning in the unlocked apk.
Thank you

From experience with Asus devices , you will loose Ota updates if you unlock with official tool. What happens generally is that the serial number of the device is sent to Asus servers through the tool to stop sending updates , only manually. You can unlock unofficially if there's the possibility.

My BL is unlocked and I've never received an OTA update, even after the full update has been made available via the Asus website.
I unlocked the bootloader using the unlock tool from Asus and it works (@dogoku I did lose OTA updates, but manual updates work), but now I want to relock it. I tried "fastboot oem asus-back" but it returns the error (along with any other fastboot command I tried):
FAILED (remote: 'Command not supported in default implementation')
fastboot: error: Command failed
What could be causing that error?

I don't use this device ,but from experience with asus devices , u can flash with a service/fastboot firmware and bootloader will be locked back , but you've lost ota updates for good.
What do you mean to flash with a service/fastboot firmware? Do you mean installing the firmware on Asus's support page?

If u don't know what that is ,u better relock with the file in the original post. Check "bootloader relock"
The original post to relock is a text file with the command "fastboot oem asus-back" which is what I tried (and have seen elsewhere on the internet for the Zenfone 7), but it gave the error in my first post.

Uhm, the command is actually asus-lock, I don't know where you got "back" from. So you should be putting in
"fastboot oem asus-lock"
I keep getting this error: "failed to unlock your device, please try again later".
Factory reset over and over, serial is in settings, brand new phone out of the box today. I added a google account after factory reset, nothing, I gave it Asus account after factory reset, same error.
What can I do? Should I do the firmware/software update?

For anyone reading this, wondering why there isn't a more descriptive error:
Unlocking your bootloader on this model goes against what a lot of us have learnt over the years. The general rule of thumb is never to update before unlocking, as the procedure for unlocking is specific to a certain release, and manufacturers frequently remove the ability to unlock in later releases.
Why they do this is obvious, they don't actually know what people will do with their hardware given the appropriate power to do so.
In the case of this phone, you do have to do the firmware update before the current unlock tool will work, as at the time of writing.
You don't need a Google or Asus account or any other crap.
Hope this helps someone else.

How bricked are you talking?
I answered a similar question in Q&A, the second post. That is if you can only boot into fastboot mode. but it also works if you are stuck in a bootloop or any other software issue.
If you can't even power the phone on, you will need to use a hair dryer or heat gun to remove the back and then disconnect the battery, then plug in a usb cable to see if the device still powers on. if it does unplug it and reconnect the battery. then try powering it on again.
If you unplug the battery and plug in a usb cable and it still does nothing, then it is completely bricked and probably beyond the technical expertise an average person is willing to put in to attempt to fix.

Device locked no Mi account access

Hello,
I have an old Redmi Note 4X stuck on "This device is locked" screen. This is a result of my carelessness and lack of knowledge about Xiaomi security measures.
To sum up:
Bootloader is locked
Stock rom is probably some kind of Chinese Global version since I bough it from HK China
Don’t know the exact Mi account associated with this device
Don’t know and lost access to email used for this Mi account
The phone number associated with this Mi account is now associated to a new account, so this one has no phone attached at all
Result -> I can’t unlock the phone using account.xiomia.com website.
Things I have tried:
Contacted both [email protected] and [email protected]. Got a usless copy paste response which shows they haven’t read my email at all. Than silence.
I tried to get into edl with no success. Fastboot oem edl doesn’t work. Fastboot_edl script hack doesn’t work. I can access the recovery menu and when I press download button phone just boots normally. I haven’t tried shorting EDL Pins as I got annoyed at this point and can’t be bothered to open the phone just to see it also doesn’t work.
I tried unlocking the bootloader by downloading Mi Unlock tool and logging with another xiaomi account. Update: software runs but I get "couldn't unlock" result. Probably no permissions to do this.
Doesn’t help that the phone is really old and a lot of roms/methods lead to dead links. I found a local online services which promises remote unlock in those cases just by providing the 10 digit service code and no “stolen status”. Except they charge about 40$ for this and this is way more than I value this old phone.
Can anyone help?
Small update:
The device I bought was Redmi 4x. Both devices look the same, hence my mistake. Can this thread be moved to a proper forum?
Shorting EDL pins doesn't work. I am out of options and wasted too much time on this. Phone goes to the garbage bin.
