Question Any bugs/drm removed after relocking - Sony Xperia 1 III

Has anyone who has unlocked noticed any weird bugs, or notice any of the DRM removed like the xperia 1 II?

Wanted to bump this since more people likely have the phone now

I unlocked my bootloader and rooted it first thing so I can't say if there are any ill effects but I have been using the phone for a few weeks now and everything is working perfect for me. I dont use Netflix or anything like that so I cant say about them. Also dont know if google pay works or not as I dont use it but I think with Magisk Hide it will work.

No features/DRM are lost since relocking bootloader on Xperia devices since 2019. On 2019 and 2020 devices, the only change would be the "Has been unlocked" flag value in service menu will be changed to "Yes". On 2021 devices such as the Xperia 1 III, this flag has disappeared from the service menu, so I don't think there's any downsides now.

[Q] xperia neo I need urgent help to undersand if it's new PLEASE!!

Hi to all!
I need some help for a urgent problem!!!!!
I bought 2 weeks ago a new xperia neo in a big chain store. I haven't rooted it, flashed,.. I haven't done nothing like this.
In this days I have tried to do the update at the firmware 0.62 but SEUS and Pc Companion says that I have a modified software and I can't update.
So I think they have sold me an used phone.
With the *#*#7378423#*#* code I have seen that it's write:
Rooting status:
Bootloader unlocked: Yes
So, i have understand that the bootloader is unlooked and the phone is surely used, it's right??
How can I demonstrate that the modifying has done before the date I have bought it?
There is a date of the flashing saved or an other way to demonstrate that the phone is used and it was modified before I bought it???
Please help me because I don't know what to do!!
Thanks.

do nothing and thank them they saved you hours of stress
thats great news why complain but if it breaks then your nacked because of warenty void
wasnt the box sealed? does the phone look new? (no scratched, finger prints etc.).
are you sure it says "Bootloader unlocked: Yes"? or is it "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes"?
if it is the second, it only means the phone was not locked by an operator. mine has the same message and no problems updating with pc companion (went from .42 to .58).
if you want to know if it is rooted, try using an application from market that requires root (droid wall, proxy droid, root explorer etc.)

Yes, but I have payd it like a new one and I want to have the guarantee at least up to ICS.

In the box I haven't seen any seal, but the phone looks new.
Yes, it's "Bootloader unlocked: Yes"
I have tried but I haven't root privileges, maybe they have flashed a stock rom to sell it like new?
Believe me you will get ics

Well I'd not have paid for this phone, it's obviously used. Would you buy milk that some hairy fat guy opened, took a sip of and then sealed the package? Would you buy a phone for full price that some guy used and did who knows what? You'd really pay for used phone as much as for new phone? You'd really cheer for being cheated?
So for OP, you asked a fair question. The answer is, this phone is used and you're being robbed of your money, unless you paid noticeably less than for new Xperia neo. So do what you will, your money, your responsibility.
I would rather contact Sony Ericsson first and then the shop you got the phone from.
the seal would have to be on the box. you cant open the box until you cut the seal. mine was opened in front of me and the seller had some trouble cutting the seal.
i would guess somebody messed with its software (the company that imported it), but not used the phone per se. some smaller companies import locked phones and unlock them then sell as "unlocked" phone (usually at lower price than official retailers). they replace the original SE seal with their own seal.
if you payed less than usual price, i would say mess with the software yourself and make it suit your needs/wishes.
I'd not be so trusting, this phone could have been in use for a week. I've noticed some reseller shop employees having that mentality "I'll just use it for a week, as long as no one notices I am fine."
It could even be a developer phone, which you get for almost free.
How do you make the difference what is what with such a phone? What if sometime later you need to take it for guarantee repairs and Sony tells you "you messed the phone up, now you got to pay for services"
This "shut up and hope you're lucky" is just silly. It's cheating by a company, isn't that awful already?
Breaking a guarantee provided by company is your choice. It's your phone, your money. This guy didn't have a liberty to even make that choice. So...
Yes, I've paid like for a new one, for this I feel cheated.
So I don't know what to do, sure I'll go to talk with the vendor (that is a big chain, and for this I thought I could trust, but evidently I was wrong)
But at the moment I have no proof if they tell me that I flashed it...
For this I'm looking for everything that can proof that the flash was before the sold date.
Anyone know if it's possible explore the files on the phone memory to see the creation date??
Or other things like this?
and thanks to everyone for the help!!
P.S.: I've looked also for the deleted files on SD but unfortunely it seems new (or formatted very well)

install this and try to see the proprieties of system folders, to see system files you need root, but if you want to go talk to them don't root it before.

Thanks for the great idea!!
I've tried with this but it doesn't shows the internal memory, only shows the SD memory, but I have also tried with "File Expert" and it shows me all the internal memory and there is the date of some files:
- some files are dated 01/jan/1970 "I think the ones of the xperia factory installation"
- some are dated with the date of today
- but there are also some files modified in september / october
now I hope the final question I have to ask you...
Which are the files/directory that you can modifying only flashing/rooting, and not in the normal use??
so they can't say me that they have only opened the phone but is a proof they have modyfied it!!!
If its really a big chain as you say, I doubt they will challenge you on it. People saying "It was like that when I got it" is something I doubt they hear a lot from people who just bought the phone, wanting it exchanged.
People who make warranty claims in such situations, I'm sure they've heard it plenty.
Basically the more time you wait, the more suspicious it will seem. Think about the scenario:
1. Someone buys a new phone.
2. Goes home, discovers its likely been used before.
3. Next days returns it, showing the bootloader was already unlocked.
The alternative explanation for the shop, is that you unlocked it yourself in the first day, and then immediately got cold feet about unlocking the BL and returned it. They are unlikely to push such an unlikely alternate theory.
I know it might not have been just a day, but you see my point: the shorter the time, the less likely you are to be challenged. A reputable shop in this situation will not doubt you (not likely, at the very least).
If they don't accept your story, say you'll to escalate it to a local authority or by contacting SE (e.g. if employees use the phones, the managers will know about this, and would fear it becoming public in an investigation by someone else; if it was unlocked by someone else, they risk exposing less-than-ideal distribution channels).
Also, ignore those who are saying you should be happy with an unlocked BL. The official BL unlock is so simple (which is what it is if SE rejected the device), you would never need someone to do it for you. If you wanted a secondhand preunlocked device, you should pay secondhand price.
Well if it was me I would be happy but where im from this just would not happen "i hope this is the case"anyway but like he said iff you don't return on day one more fool you moral of the story just flash what you want and move on

I hope!
I have talk with the shop and I returned the phone to the Sony reparation center and if they found I haven't modified the phone, the shop said will give me a new phone...
P.S.: I know the Unlock of bootloader is a good thing but maybe the phone was used in wrong ways and damaged in something! I don't know, and sure I haven't the guarantee.
So, if I want isn't too difficult unlock it, but before I have the full guarantee and I'm sure no one has used it.
if I wanted to buy a used phone at least I could save some money!!

[Q] Sony Xperia U and the (un)locked bootloader

Hello!
I've never been a huge fan of Android, but when my Nokia N95 died I didn't have many choices to buy a Cell which was not Android. So I bought a TMN (Portuguese) locked Xperia U, which had a great coast/quality (apparently) good.
Soon it bothered me the fact of the huge branded and useful stuff that it brings by factory and what drove me mad was the fact that I couldn't uninstall or customize my phone because it was not rooted! Then I rooted it, by flashtool, and soon after I installed a customized ROM (Zperience) which made the phone faster and cooler (in the mean time I've updated to ICS, but I sort have to ask "please" to the phone, so I could make a phone call or send an SMS (SO SLOW!!!!)).
But, as I now more about Android, I found out that if I install a custom kernell (I'm thinking in the Mujaedin) it would make my phone even faster and I could (finally!) get the full profit from my hardware! But I have my bootloader locked and my phone says that I can't unlock it even if I took the chance of loosing my warranty!
All this text to ask: why some come with the bootloader unlocked, others came with it unlockable and others that can't be unlocked???
..it's so confusing for me that drive's me crazy!!!
My girlfriend has one like mine (from other operator from Portugal) and it's not yet in ICS, but it's really faster then mine!
Thank you for any help or any "enlightenment"!

[Q] Sony Xperia U and the (un)locked bootloader

Hello!
First, I'm sorry to post this message in the wrong place! I'm new at this! So I'l transcribe what I've already written.
I've never been a huge fan of Android, but when my Nokia N95 died I didn't have many choices to buy a Cell which was not Android. So I bought a TMN (Portuguese) locked Xperia U, which had a great coast/quality (apparently) good.

Usualy when you buy a phone by an operator (TMN, Vodafone, TIM, etc etc) it comes with locked bl. Why is that?
Just because no operator wants you to remove or customize anything and thus keeping your phone without its bloatware.
Anyway, usualy just by rooting the phone, you can remove bloat and keep your device with locked bl.
The other issue with unlocking it is that you lose your warranty. This happens because with an unlocked bl you can install custom kernel, and with great powers, comes great responsability: with custom kernel you can overclock the cpu, install different governors / schedulers, and thus hightening the chances of a hard brick (making your phone run always at full speed keeps it from cooling off, and some have reported phones heating as much as burning their hands / ears - but not from XU, so i've heard).
Nevertheless, you always can relock your bootloader. I recommend doing so if you think you're gonna need the warranty, or just to sell the phone to someone you think will mess with it and blame you
So, some phones come with unlocked bl, others come with locked. This is just the companies acting on their own behalf, to keep themselves safeguarded from angry customers with burning phones
It's unfortunate that you can't unlock your boot loader as it does open up possibilities for what otherwise appears to be an end-of-life phone.
My XU started on Gingerbread and as you noticed of your girlfriend's phone, was very usable. When the Ice Cream Sandwich update arrived I jumped at it, but to be honest I still to this day wish I hadn't as ever since that point it has been one thing after another that's just not quite right about the phone.
I'm currently using pipi14's Jelly Bean ROM (as of a few days ago) and although I'd say performance is better than ICS, it's still nowhere near GB, and now things like the LED bar don't work quite right which is annoying as I do value it.
If I were in your position I would look for a tweaked "stock" Gingerbread ROM which should offer better performance but that you should still be able to use, even with your locked bootloader. If you don't want to "downgrade" you could always try one of the locked bootloader-compatible ICS ROMs but their performance will never be as good as the GB ones.

First of all, thank you for your time and answers!
I'm very new to this android stuff, as I was very resistant to migrate to android mainly because of this: it drives me mad the fact I have a "ferrari" limited to 30 mph! It's very good hardware and very limited software, so it's very general to all brands and models...
That being said, I sent my Xperia to warranty, because I don't believe it was "normal" the way that my display was responding to touch (sometimes didn't respond at all, other times displayed several keys when I was not touching it). Nevertheless, I still don't understand why some phone's came with the bootloader unlockable and other don't, despite the consequences... :S
Cheers!

Hi.
From my experience, i would recommend you to just root your device, install the newest, .100 debranded rom and use it.
I have unlocked my bootloader and tried using Transcendence and Sliding kernels, but both were driving me crazy: apps were closing while i was using them, system was unbearably laggy, at the end it took me 5minutes to enter phone.apk and make a call (i managed to make it after removing battery, because i couldn't even restart the phone).
Now i'm running .100 firmware debranded by pirej and it works like a charm .
So don't worry about custom kernels, root only and have fun

Protected Z4 Tablet from Amazon Help!

A week ago I purchased a used Xperia Z4 tablet from Amazon. I had been wanting this tablet since it was announced and when I saw a used one for $496 I couldn't resist.
When I received the tablet it was in like new condition Plastic still on the screen etc., but when I powered it on it went into protect mode.
Oh well I figured I would just go on XDA an I would have it fixed in no time. Well I was wrong lol.
With this new MXTP software at bootloader level and no way to unlock root or anything else once activated, I gave up and called Amazon. They couldn't help me get out of protect mode. I called Sony.
Sony told me that I could send it in to be repaired. When they tried to create an rma they didn't know how because the Tablet has not been released in the USA, and it is not in there system.
They would have call there repair facility and figure out how to get it repaired.
After a week and a half of phone calls, Sony finally told me none of there repair facilities in the USA know how to work on this tablet. And They could not tell me where I could get it fixed.
Does anyone know how to fix this? or where in the USA I can get this tablet fixed?
Thanks in advance.
You need to send it back to Amazon as faulty and suggest that they send you a new one. This is all to similar to iphones and I can see this happening many times. The seller should have disabled my Xperia first.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
They can't send me another one because this is the only used one they had in stock. They also offered me another 25% off if I kept the tablet. Even if it cost me another $100 to get it fixed it would be worth it. I just need to know where I could send it.
Wow! I can't believe there is no one on XDA who even knows where I could send this tablet to get fixed. I guess it's back to Amazon
I finaly got into the tablet. I reflashed my software using PC Companion. That gave me enough time on startup to fly through the setup. (skip everything) before protected screen kicked on.
I restarted the tablet and had enough time to go into settings/ users and add a user. I can now use the tablet on that user account. I just dont have access to all settings.
Funny thing is I again restarted the tablet, went into security so I could try to deactivate my xperia but it wasn't activated. I was thinking about trying to activate and see if it would let me log on the owner account but I don't know if my bootloader is unlocked (the tablet was advertised as unlocked when I purchased) And I don't want to risk bricking it. Any advice?
I had the same problem. I sent my back since of software issues. I made a factory reset first. Shut the tablet down, packed it and sent it back. The vendor sent it back to me since the tablet was still locked. I typed in my password and after this step the factory reset was finished and the tablet started with the initial setup wizard. Try to ask Amazon to tell you the last owner. I guess this guy did the same like me. Reset und sent it back without unlocking it as final step. On the other hand it's weird to do such step after a factory reset. No other device I know requires such step. Maybe he can help you?
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 9 mit Tapatalk
myXperia is a security feature
As such it is not meant to be deactivated via factory reset.
A thief or malicious user has to unlock the device first to make it useful.
If you loose the password SONY has to "repair" it.
If you had unlocked your bootloader and activated myXperia afterwards SONY has to repair it (you bricked it).
If you unlock your bootloader (e.g. for rooting or flashing a custom ROM) you should DELETE myXperia after that if you stay on stock ROM.
Otherwise by accident or by a malicious/unknowing user of your tablet it could be morphed into a paper weight.

This kind of new protection cannot be activated with an unlock bootloader, as Sony mentions on their website when the bootloader is unlocked, the protection cannot be ensured. So sorry but your tablet doens't have and unlocked bootloader.
On why nobody answered you, it's very simple, this is not a Sony forum !
On the actual "issue" now, Sony can unlock it on the service centers, technically this can be done in any authorized center - it's a software thing - but they have probably not been trained to do so yet in the US. Makes some sense since this new protection scheme is new , only tablet Z4 and a couple of other devices have it. Sony requires a proof of purchase and this actions is logged so that it can be tracked back to the center/agent that has done the unlock procedure.
So you have two options: Send it back to Amazon, communicate with Sony again, point them to their website https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/My-Xperia-Theft-Protection/td-p/998346 and hope they will respond with a service center that is aware of this unlock procedure.

HELP please! LG say my G5 is rooted

Hi
My LG G5 is just under 18 months old, so still covered by the 2 yr UK warranty in that sense. It has started to only accept a USB connection (for charging, data connection, anything) once before it needs rebooting to accept it again.
So, I sent it back to LG. They sent the phone back to say it is rooted and wouldn't fix it.
I have eventually got to someone at Head Office and they still say the same, that as the OS has been modified then they will not repair it (the warranty does state that they will not repair a fault CAUSED by a modification by the way)
So I ran the internal software check as mentioned here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/help/how-tell-g5-rooted-t3528248 - and it does indeed come up with a positive, it says that SUPERUSER (a rooting related app) was installed on 1/1/17. - see attached image
I well remember doing a full wipe and reinstall of the phone on new years day and Google Play installed all the apps on my account and I had to delete the ones that I didn't use anymore. I have rooted various devices and that is why Superuser was in my Google Play account. It did install on the phone that day and was uninstalled (never run) the same day. The phone has never been rooted (it has been mine since new, I know how to root phones and would know if I had! I have also had no reason to) and I have run Android Pay and the banking apps on it all the time.
I can actually get the phone repaired for £25 anyway so it's not so much the repair that is the issue right now, it's that I think LG shouldn't get away with treating customers like this and I want to make a point.
Before I go through the various public attempts to make the point (Twitter, Trading Standards, Tech mags) I do want to be 100% clear of the facts, so if I am mistaken then please do tell me.
The Head Office guy said that even though Android Pay etc still works, that they have different checks and that a program has been run that has modified the OS. Their own internal phone software tells me that this program is Superuser. My understanding is that superuser does nothing at all unless a phone is rooted. Then, on a rooted phone, it will act as a 'middle-man', intercepting anything that wants root access and asking for permission from the user.
Am I correct in saying (and LG incorrect) that Superuser makes NO change to the OS? All the version numbers in About in Settings are the current legit ones.
In my opinion, they are technically intelligent enough to know that there is no technical issue with my circumstances, they just want to get out of fixing the phone (which has already cost them me buying the next incarnation of the series at the end of my contract and my next TV too). Even if it had been modified, the app was installed on 1 Jan, the issue started a month ago, and LG happily fixed another fault (fingerprint sensor) on the phone back in April with no complaining about root! There could be no proof that the fault was caused by Superuser.
Any advice/ammunition to talk to them would be appreciated.
They don't know what they saying.. superuser app could not modify the os if it is not rooted and have not unlocked bootloader...
Exactly what I thought.
I should probably have posted this in the Superuser forum, is it possible to move it? I don't want to repeat post. If anyone could say what Superuser DOES do, that would be ideal..
Thanks
Thanks Gerciolst.. they have now agreed to repair it!
