Question Change screen saturation - Sony Xperia 1 III

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to change the saturation on the Sony Xperia 1 III
I'm used to setting a high saturation on All my screens since i love when colors pop
So i find the screen rather dull to look at, especially in games.
Changing the normal white balance doesn't really satisfy me as it doesn't make the screen more vibrant
Thanks for any help

Hi,
in past, for older xperia devices there was "vivid mode' within screen options in settings.
Unfortunately, sone as a company obsessed to remove features and options its fans loved decided to remove this feature among the others too.
Now we have only normal and washed out (creator) modes...
The only thing is to e-mail official sony support hoping they will pass this info to sony xperia software division internally.
Tbh, on a software level what sony does with its devices is horrible. Thank's god I was able to download sony album app from Internet and it works. This app was removed too... If it didn't work for me, I would return this device. Now happy with having sony album.
Unfortunately screen vivid mode was not an app but just integrated setting
I am missing it too.

Contrast issue in Live with walkman ( anyone else notice that )

I bought Sony Ericsson Live with walkman 2 weeks ago and the first thing i notice is that there is something wrong with the display contrast, when the background is black or dark the contrast will automaticly change make the white very shiny and annoying even i cant read the word "Google" inside the search widget, screenshot for that attached
is there any fix for that ? maybe kernel ??
link in Sony Ericsson talk forum about that issue "in the attachments"
It doesn't sport the same Bravia Engine the other 2011 xperia's have so contrast isn't exactly "spot on" i guess that's why they installed the Bravia engine on the other xperias in the first place

As far as i know the "Bravia engine" only affect the images and the videos not general performance, am i wrong ?
and by the way my old Xperia X8 have better contrast than this one, and no "Bravia engine" there at all !!!
Well the Xperia mini has the same no. of colors ( both have 16M ) and both have the same res ( both have 320 x 480 ) the only difference is the ppi (Mini: 192 ppi, Live: 180 ppi ) and that the Mini has the Bravia Engine. Note, The Bravia Engine was intended to affect picture, video, and ui

You might want to try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346190
The dev tested it on his live with walkman and that tweak installer has CWM and Bravia engine included.

Yh it does, its in the options when you play music under settings
I think that Bravia engine is not involved with that because simply the contrast issue only appear if the background is black otherwise the contrast is OK ( check the screenshot i attach, they are both from my live but one when the background is black and the other when it is blue )
Any idea !!!
Here's my screenshot on black theme, contrast not so bad (brightness @ 100%)

I mean what you see in the screen in real, not in the screenshot ( actually i Photoshop my screenshot to simulate the real view because i don't have HD camera so i can capture my mobile screen, the screenshot will not show you your mobile screen problem because simply you are viewing them on the computer screen )
so it only show that this issue is locally visible in your phone might well bring it to sonyericsson service center in your area. I never heard of this issue among the SE Live owners in the philippines.

Quot from SE reply to me in SE Talk Forum
"Haven't heard about this before, but as I started to play around with the Live with Walkman I can actually see that the contrast changes depending on which background/theme you are using and also that the red icons on blue background leaves a shadow. I have escalated this and will get back to you when I get more information. Thanks for reporting."

Dude, I'm having the same exact problem with my Xperia Mini Pro. I thought it's the Bravia Engine so I tried turning it off, but same thing. I noticed this problem when I look at the "Google" word inside the Search box widget. When I'm using the black theme, the contrast is bad and it's like the "Google" word is too bright to read.
It's really annoying. I thought I'm the only one experiencing this. It's like the screen is too washed out.
Quot from PhoneArena review just released today
"Its color reproduction leans a bit towards the warm side, while its contrast levels and viewing angles are average at best. Another problem that we notice is that its pixel response time is rather high, meaning that moving objects leave a faint blurry trail behind them"
and i mentioned this issue earlier in the SE talk forum,
anyone else facing issues in the screen ???

(REQ) BRAVIA Engine for Unlocked BL

I had these files extracted from Xperia RAY latest ICS firmware with Unlocked BL. it worked on Xperia Neo, Ray, and Arc even I already unlocked the BL, but anyone who tried to use the Album app on any 2011 devices with unlocked BL, MBE is not working.
i managed to install this apps on my Acro S, it loads the Xperia Gallery but closes once it loads a pic.
Anyone in here who has the knowledge to make this files work on Xperia S and Acro, might help us experience BE on pics again.
Please cooperate.
Files...
here are the files..
I tried this earlier (with many more files); the gallery crashes (it's for GB ROMS). I also tried to use GB libraries from Xperia S past firmwares but even they don't work on ICS.
By the way, I was able to come to the point where the thumbnail loads before the full image in the GB gallery. In that momentary fraction, it appeared ordinary - i.e. the Bravia Engine probably wouldn't work even if the gallery app can be tweaked
The problem is perhaps in the libSwiqi.so (or similarly named file). That is present in ICS but was absent from GB. Replacing some of the other files associated with Bravia engine didn't break the video functionality in my tests, however alterations of this file made the engine stop working altogether (in videos as well ).
This issue is somewhat complex and the exact CAUSE and associated files are hard to determine
Screw Sony for not fixing this yet! It has been several months now...
-------
P.S. Can anyone with Xperia Arc / 2011 Xperia with working Bravia engine on unlocked bootloader upload that libSwiqi file?
ics files
this files are from xperia ray running ICS. not gingerbread mate.
got them from my xperia ray with unlocked bootloader yet be is working perfectly fine.
i could attach that file you want.. just a sec..
let us help each other in making this work.
others out there dont even care.
mate, i cant see any lib file that goes with the name libSwiqi
i saw someone who is claiming about successfully porting BE to other devices. can you help me analyze which file was used?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923630
lib file
got this one from acid sound mod files claiming to have BE ported properly.
saying that this file is from 2011 line up.
install the ones i have provided above, together with this mate. then tell me..
I wished I could use this gallery version instead of the Xperia s one.
Gesendet von meinem LT26i
Thanks for uploading the files mate. I'll test and report back.
So Xperia Ray still has this old gallery on ICS. We used to have a similar one (and with some different libraries) in GB. i.e. libSwiqiController wasn't present in the GB version of Xperia S as well. In ICS update, Sony added new libraries to control Bravia Engine and that must have messed up..
I'm convinced that the messed up files are the libraries and not the app itself. Would you also check something else: On your Xperia Ray, install QuickPic, turn HW rendering on from settings and check if Bravia Engine appears to work in that mode. (To get an idea about how closely the functioning of BE is related to the gallery app. I noticed that HW mode in 3rd party video players enables Bravia Engine ; maybe it's the same for photos as well)
quickpic
BE doesnt work on quickpic even with hardware acceleration.
and its a misconception with MX video mate. galaxy SII doesnt have MBE but it works the same way with GSII using MX video HW acceleration. i decided to put it under SW when i still have the GSII because it makes the colors less saturated.
MBE only works with sony apps.

Maybe u don't know that GS3 have a type of display rendering engine! There's are option like: dynamic, standard, or vivid, i forgot! That's y it's work the same way with GS3 or 2 or note! But i think that it's rendering engine isn't any better than Bravia engine!

Hmm.. so QuickPic doesn't work... :\
But as far as MX is concerned, it DEFINITELY uses Bravia on HW. (You can see that the colour saturation and contrast disappears when you turn Bravia off)
MX VIDEO
sorry mate but that is not the case from what i see.
mx video using hw+ also makes the sound louder and better. i think it does the same thing with hw for videos. it enhances something in the process but that is not BE.
then how can you explain it with my GALAXY SII? as you well know, the over rated super over saturated far from reality SUPERAMOLED PLUS will stress your eyes and will lead to head acheif you wont stop looking at it. much worst if you will watch a full length movie.
if you will turn off HW and put it under SW, it gives a more natural color look (taking off about 25%) of color saturation and contrast.
but if you turn it on, it will show something like the ones we experience on our 2012 xperia devices. bumping up colors and showing a less noisy output.
sony has made something magical yet a buggy software. no one managed to port MBE properly with other sony devices like xperia neo L, live with walkman and the good old xperia x10.
anyways, let us keep on searching till we get something to make it work.
any news about the xperia gallery from 2011 line up? i have sent an email to several talented devs, but no one seems to care. sorry if i am not a dev but i think you have a better understanding with programs, right?

oh and yes, GSII have those options as well. but you can only select those options under the display settings. and it also have 3 color tones available under the default video player.
but none of these color settings offers the same level of saturation and color accuracy compared to that of SW mode of MXVIDEO.

Hrm, if i compared the SW mode in Gs2 or 3 with xperia s, u'll see same effect! Now try to turn on Hardware acceleration and compare, they both enchance color due to the use of their hardware rendering engines while GS3 got those options, ours got bravia engine, but difcerent effect! If u try to turn off BE in Xperia S and switch between SW and HW there's NO difference! U can try!

okay, its my mistake. it works with mx
it works with mx, but yeah, superamoled even plus sucks no matter what color calibration or settings you would do. i do not know how others like the greenish and bluish tones of superamoled. now, can you help making xperia gallery work on our devices? it might work that way, but that one works with xperia ray with unlocked bootloader.

[Q] [HELP] Sola over contrast and saturation

Hello everyone can anyone help i think the xperia sola screen is too much contrast and saturation its really terrible when i put my pictures from my computer the color so worse, i already turn off bravia engine but it still worse, so i download the screen adjuster it a little great but not work really well this app make sola so laggy and the game always suspended when i play, can anyone answer or fix it or this is need rooted ? because its been 3 days i hands on with mr.s pepper
What rom do u use? Basically every rom using the same color profile so i dont know if contrast and saturation can be changed?

[DISPLAY] Good color changer, working after reboot?

Hi,
Xperia M4 Aqua does not have the best white color. I set in settings for display value 167 for blue color and it looks much better. But after reboot I have to ge there and confirm my settings again. Is on the internet some good app which works after reboot if u set ur color on display? I just want to have good white color and working afer reboot, too. That is everything.
Thanks for your advice(s)
Check out faux123kernel enhancement app.
There are some more apps like screen adjuster free they don't seem to have true native screen adjusting.
There are many screen calibration apps for nexus 4 .don't know whether they will work for m4.
I also have a problem on the Xperia m4 aqua .the edges of the display seem to have a dark hue on the status bar and navigation bar.
I think it is not a problem with the device.
It is actually material overlay mode.
I am still trying to find an app to change it for the default Sony ui.
Well the problem disappears after installing another launcher like Google now or nova launcher...
I too am not happy with the Xperia m4 aqua display. It is not very good compared with Samsung J5 amoled display and other 720p ips panels.
Very Poor contrast ratio , black value is not good and display is not excellent in color pallete.
But slightly better or equal to moto G 2015.
Hope this works for you.

New photo Pro app available

Guys, just seconds ago, I found, that there's the (from what I guess) new photo pro app from xperia 1 III is available here apkmirror.com
I tried to install and it worked!
Not able to take a screenshot as it's forbidden by system (not really necessary, sony). It has the new basic mode, that was shown on press release.
What are the differences with the mark II version? Difference in image quality or options?
From my guess, what sony is going to archive in future models, is to combine the normal and the pro-app, so there would be no need to develop and maintain two different apps - that saves money for them.
The linked app is already combined, some settings are slightly different insinde the pro-modes. You can switch to effects from basic-mode. I'm going to try to abandon the normal app and see, if the new one misses anything.
Thanks for posting that. I've tried it and it's great except that I normally open photo Pro in manual mode but this new app defaults to the basic camera app so you then have to change it to the camera pro app yourself. A small thing but just one more step that we didn't have previously when the two were separate apps. I see no setting to change how it opens by default so if anyone else does...
On a positive note, I may be imagining a slight thing but I think quality has maybe improved fractionally. To be specific, everyone has raved about this phone taking RAW files that you can develop yourself ( even though I think most flagship phones do now ) but I have always found that indoor shots with this phone in RAW always require a tripod which means you are just as well getting your real camera out. The ISO has to be low otherwise there is so much noise that even tools in lightroom struggle to fix it. But I think I see less noise now in handheld shutter speeds in low light.
But thanks to OP for spotting this app & bringing it to our attention.
BTW, how does anyone know this is the app from Xperia 1 iii when it's not released yet? Is there information on Sony website?
Many thanks.

I always open the Pro app with a push on the camera button. The new Pro app can be configured to open in Pro mode when pressing the camera button, so it works great for me.

The is a setting for "Open in last mode used". Since I always use the Pro Mode that works for me.
After installing the APK, can't choose the photo pro as option with camera key.
What I need to do to choose the photo pro as default?
Had to remap power button gesture to use the photo pro app. Camera button does not have photo pro option after installing this APK

That's what I've done too, with button mapper app. Howerver, it does not work when screen is off for my non rooted device. Don't forget to set photopro bypass in button mapper when photopro is active.
Tap tap app is also an interesting option.
For now I removed the update and reverted to the original Pro app.

So the old PRO app was not able to be used wiht the front camera, right?
Is there a way how to downgrade to original Photo Pro w/o root? I fear the answer is no.
It seems this upgrade broke eye AF at least on 70mm camera. All pictures of my wife and daughter focused on eye are out of focus. . Also manual object tracking seems not to work at all.

I really hope that Sony will provide the new photo pro app on our device with the Android 12 update...
