lg g8x model number has changed after android 11 update - LG G8X ThinQ Questions & Answers

My lg g8x lmg850emw that had android 10 has now tuned into a model lmg850um when the device updated to android 11
i then re installed the android 10 firmware and it goes back to correct model
And even when updating through lg bridge, the model is always wrong when on android 11.
would be amazing if someone can help or knows anything about this issue.
Maybe ill just send the phone back.
Or does something like this not happen naturally haha?

Yes - I have the same issue, flashed to android 11 kdz from here: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmg850emw-firmwares/ now my phone model is UM.
Where did you buy the phone from? I bought it from aliexpress refurbished, the seller must have done something to these phones.
One thing I did notice is that if I flash a different abl file onto it, then it reads correctly as EMW.

I got the ABL from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...nlock-and-magisk-root-using-firehose.4221793/
The thing is not to worry even if you F it up - you can always flash the ABL from the KDZ file.
What I'd recommend you do is remember which KDZ you flashed and keep a copy of it.
My frustation was I couldn't get into fastboot mode at all. When I flashed this abl - suddenly flashboot worked (wtf!!!) the next issue was I couldn't get the oem device-id that LG tells you to get - just wasn't working.
In the end I thought what the hell lets just run the unlock bootloader command and voila, bootloader unlocked as simple as that! Rooting it easy once you have fastboot or EDL mode as you dump the ABL file and use magisk to patch it and then reflash back to the phone (both boot_a and boot_b)

I think the only way to do that is to flash a different ABL file into it - however does it really matter? Mine says G850UM but functions fine (dual sim etc).

I'm having a similar issue but I have the US Unlocked variant (G850QM). I can't update the device because it's saying I can't change the model from T-MOBILE. Tried both LG Bridge and LGUP. OTA portion of the phone says no update.
It shows everywhere that it's the QM model. No idea what to do. I purchased it second hand and it was already on Android 11.
Edit: Fixed it, see this thread, I hyperlinked to the start of my post: [Tutorial] Crossflash, Bypass OPID Mismatched Error

Can anyone tell me please how I can delete this ? I already tried to flash the firmware via the LG software, but it is impossible.
I really appreciate a helping hand from someone who has a clue here, what's to do to reset the phone to normal.

Don't know what happened to your phone. But, why you don't just kdz back to stock?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
It's not working, any other solution you might have ?
kdz file invalid => you should download it again, it may be corrupted.
You're trying to flash a H850K file onto your phone, are you using a H850 or a H850K.
The H850K is not the European model, download a H850 rom from lg-firmwares.com.
I am using the H850K from Telstra, Australia. But this KDZ file H85010c_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0415, it had no installation problems, so I got rid off its branding of Telstra.

Oh, I see, this is not H850 EU. Have you tried to use refurbish option rather than upgrade one?

You need to start again and explain exactly what you've done, are you now saying you've flashed a H850 ROM onto an Australian H850K phone and this is where all of these problems have started?
tried the refurbish thingy, does not work either. gave the same message, tool is crashing afterwards.

Yes, but there was no problem at all. The problem only started when trying to root this phone., because it is unable to go into fastboot mode. Until step 10 everything went fine with this explanation. https://www.idroidspace.com/root-lg-g5/ And now it is running like a mess. I am note sure if the phone still is repairable ?

But how can we edit build.prop? The device is in MM already and it can't be rooted.
Only root can access and modify the build.prop file.
Do you have a method to flash the verizon firmware to the refurbished device renamed as H900 AT&T device?
I tried to flash it with LGUP it says KDZ file is invalid. With LG Flash Tool I've also got an error.

Try oldest one as it will ignore all restrictions
i have not tried it myself but here is the method to edit build prop without root.
adb pull /system/build.prop <path to save file>
Now edit the file you just extracted and save it
Push it back to your phone via adb
adb push <path to your file> /system/build.prop
You're not done yet. You need to set permissions too
So open she'll via terminal
adb shell
Now from shell, set the right permissions
chmod 644 /system/build.prop
And you're done

Everything on this thread seems to be a bluff...
I could not find any evidence of anyone actually being successful flashing the VS990 rom on to an H900.
Until someone has a well-described process and proof of functionality, I don't think anyone here should believe what is being stated.

Stuck in Multicolored Screen

Good day everyone. I am hoping I can get some help here on a problem that has been bothering me for weeks. I have the KIW-L21 phone, and I recently did an OTA update on the phone, but it got stuck on Honor when booting and never went past it. No matter what I did, it won't move and factory reset failed. So, I went to Honor support website and downloaded the "Update.app" files for UK, France, and Europe General for it. So, far when I flash the UK and General Europe, it goes well, but then I get this screen (image attached) and it keep looping on optimizing Device from 0 to 100 and again. http://i66.tinypic.com/o586d1.jpg
http://i64.tinypic.com/34z0jdi.jpg
http://i66.tinypic.com/igewk2.jpg
The French Update.app won't even work. But I am stuck here. These are all official ROMs from Huawei's website. I wonder what am doing wrong.
Please any sort of help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Haha. I would if I could find the H931 firmware. It doesn't seem to exist. Do you know if AT&T will actually flash my phone for me?

Well have you tried factory reseting from settings>accounts>reset and backup>reset and if that doesnt work power off the device and hold power+ volume down and when the lg logo shows up let go of the power button for one second, then press and hold it again while holding volume down that will boot to recovery and will let you reset manually. Let me find a youtube link just incase this was a bit confusing ill edit in a couple of minutes

it has a custom firmware on it so I can't get updates at all. Looking at the sofware info I see the build number as:
joan_att_us-userdebug 7.1.2 N2G47H
<some numbers> test-keys
This is clearly some custom build that someone did (Joan?). Factory resetting is not going to fix that. I need to find the H93110e (or h) current firmware and flash that to really get back to stock.

Gotcha, yeah thats odd to have on a production unit. i would try to unlock the bootloader if that where me lol so don't do it. Maybe try lg bridge to get a normal build on there and if worst comes to worst just do a warranty exchange when you can.

Sounds like an unscrupulous att employee selling engineering samples lg providedfor validation. Warranty exchanges are unlikely ?.

Hey as long as he has a receipt i think it should be okay since I doubt he himself loaded that debuging software onto his phone let alone the kdz for the att variant hasn't been posted online(that I'm aware of).

The hardware rev is still 1.0 so I'm hoping it's the same as a retail unit. Seems good. Just waiting for a stock firmware to be posted online (I'm sure it will get out eventually) to see if I can flash it to stock and then take OTAs.

I meant the hardware... The phone is likely a pre-prod unit.

I'm just curious on the bootloader since you are on debugging software. I'll trade you my fully functional H932 jk. I already bootloader unlocked my tmobile variant at the cost of my warranty and I wouldnt want someone else to void there 2 year warranty just for the sake of tinkering like me. I'll do some searching for that kdz to help out. I'll link it if i find it.

Maybe. I'm hoping it's internally identical to production unit and will take a stock firmware. Fingers crossed.
I've got the same type of unit - it has the same joan userdebug software on it. Were you able to locate a stock firmware for it?
No. Mine had a broken head phone jack so I returned it

Where'd you return it to? I sent mine to LG for warranty repair. They kept it for 10 days and then just sent it back saying "TEST PHONE: UNABLE TO REPAIR" I thought they would've at least flashed the stock firmware but no such luck. I'm messing with the hidden menu to see if I can get rid of the userdebug imprint on it.

Have you tried using Repair with LG Bridge? If it doesn't work you need a person with AT&T V30 that does that(or just a firmware update) and then checks logs to give you url to the firmware.

I had purchased it from eBay so the user really had no choice but to take it back and give me a refund. He had not disclosed that it was running a non-stock firmware and that the headphone jack was damaged.
Is there a fix to the joan_att_us-userdebug watermark?

Retrieving and Patching Your Boot.img for LG Wing

woops didn't put this in guides, sorry
This should work for any KDZ firmware of any LG Device, but figured I'd write this for the Wing, as so far, its the only LG phone I own and the one I'm most determined with
This is not a full Root Tutorial. This is a step in the correct direction though. These are the After-Steps, so bootloader unlock is still needed. Sorry
What You'll need
- KDZ Tools (see attachment -- virus total scan just because: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file...zODc2ZTViOWQ1MTlmN2Q0NzFiMjI6MTYzNzgyMTYwNg==)
- Firmware KDZ file
- Magisk Manager installed on device that IS NOT your LG Wing (at least for me, explained below)
Instructions (video coming soon)
1.) Download KDZ Tools and extract them to a folder somewhere.
-- I usually make one on my external drive and drop stuff there, but desktop works too
2.) Download whatever firmware KDZ file you need
3.) Put that KDZ File in the same folder as the KDZ Tools
4.) Run "OneKeyExtraction.bat" and select Y if the KDZ is in the folder with this same file
5.) This takes A LONG WHILE and you need a good large bit of storage space available (50gb+) because the extraction goes raw format and some image files at first take up 20+GB as 1 file
6.) Once complete, you should have a folder named "F100X_usersigned_etc" ... open that to find your img firmware files. There's 31GB of IMG files here if its the Android 11 1020 KR FW
7.) Copy one of the boot.img to your device with Magisk Manager installed
-- The reason I stated on a different device, is that at least for me, Magisk Manager kept failing to patch on my LG Wing. When I put the boot.img on my OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, it patched just fine
8.) Open magisk manager, select Install, Select and Patch a File, select the Boot.img and patch it
9.) Once patched, that's a rooted boot.img, pull it off your device back to your computer and hold on to it for when we get a way to flash it and root the device!
root theory:
Interupting the LGUp flashing process of firmware when it gets to boot partitions to load custom boot.img's. How to do this exactly, not sure. If there's a way we can re-kdz these files from KDZ tool, that might work too
I can tell you right now, it wont work because the bootloader is locked. The hash of the patched boot.img on the phone won't match and you will get "Your device has failed a routine check, your phone is unbootable."
Sorry to debunk your theory. We need a firehose and a engineering bootloader.

This is from the Verizon model (non demo).
Also i accidentally added the software version earlier.
i accidentally delete some lg apps and the phone stuck in bootloop the other day so i restore the phone using lgup just selected the refurbished option, the phone restored still in unlocked bootloader mode

Hi, are you willing to dump the bootloader from your phone? Because it looks like you have a development device, so it has an unlockable engineering bootloader that can be used to unlock other LG Wing and Velvet devices.

Others can help on our discord server, I'll admit I'm not well versed on dumping partitions through stuff like ADB.

Thanks, I recommend to join the Discord server though since me and Leronex are not always online on XDA, we are more active on Discord since its a live chat platform, not a forum like XDA. If you dont have a Discord account you can just create one.
If anyone else is reading this you are welcome to join the server as well.

Reason I guessed demo device is because of the 0'd IMEI, but I guess as a dev device, 0'd imei is gonna be there too
Any progress on this? Sounded like you guys were making some good ground and then the thread went a little bit cold. No pressure. Just checking in. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
